Alex was very responsive to my concerns and accepted feedback well and apologized for the negative experience. The moral of the story remains the same: discuss pricing up-front and if you feel it is excessive, say something and compare prices. Also, for the record, Alex stated they are able to service milt-unit dwellings (i.e., condos) again. -------------- Original: -------------- Very disappointed and don't call if you live in a condo! Get a quote for their hourly rates up-front or avoid this vendor all-together... After scheduling the appointment without a problem, I was told the day-of the appointment that they were --suddenly-- no longer servicing condos because of "insurance issues." To their credit, they did honor the scheduled appointment, but told me they wouldn't service my home "from here on out." It was a little dismissive and unpleasant. Also, they tried to charge me $320+ dollars to replace what I know to be a $15-20 part. When I confronted them with this information, then I got a series of flimsy rationalizations for the quote - which seemed to be picked out of thin air. It was not based on any sort of hourly rate or other metric. They just made it up hoping to get away with it. I am fine with the service fee (which I paid before declining additional services), I am fine with paying a mark-up for the part, and I am fine paying a generous (but reasonable) hourly rate for the labor, especially since I know demand is high right now. I am NOT fine with the attempt to gouge a customer and the song-and-dance excuses when confronted with an informed consumer. I would advise you to get a quote for their hourly rates up-front, or to avoid this vendor all-together. Yes, it's hot and demand is high - but there are also plenty of other HVAC vendors in San Diego. read more

When my gas furnace would not turn on, I called a HVAC company recommended on Nextdoor. The tech cane out the next day and determined I needed a new furnace circuit board. He then said the circuit board for my Day and Night furnace was no longer made and I'd need a new furnace at a cost of $3500. I returned to Next Door and three individuals recommended AIRMAXX and Alex, the owner. I called him and he came out the next day. It was indeed the circuit board and he had three in stock at his warehouse. He was back in two hours and replaced the defective circuit board for $486. He is an honest businessman that saved me $3014. I will use no other HVAC company again. Thank you AIRMAXX. read more

We had our air conditioning system kick out, and within about two hours we had a technician out to our home. Our technician, Vlad, was not only knowledgeable, but one of the nicest and most friendly service people I have met. He double checked our system, and was able to make the needed repairs the same day, at a competitive price. Above all this, he even offered to wash our the filter of our unit because he knew it had to be done. What a great guy! My AC was making an occasional gurgling noise so I thought it would be a good idea to have it checked out. Alex came by and ensured me that it was a normal noise from the condenser draining. Knew my problem from my description of what had happened and had me fixed up in 30 minutes. He also did an overall check on the system and gave me some helpful pointers on how to extend the life of the system. I just love these guys. Honest and dependable. What a great company from the salesman Gilbert to the crew who came and installed a completely new system along with the blown in insulation if I could give 10 stars I would. we got several different quotes from different contractors and had a couple more onour list but after Gilbert was here and suggested a couple of different things we decided right away we wanted to use this company and canceled the other appointments with the other companies. Gilberts suggestion concerning the old insulation and how we would just be loosing our heat or air made complete sense and we saw the difference on day on. The crew who worked on our install were amazing, so polite and respectful to us and our home. I could go on and on about this company and Gilbert and how he listened to what we needed and wanted. The list goes on and on we really appreciate him and his knowledge I told my husband he felt like a friend I would go and have burger with he agree. This company again is awesome and does not pressure you to make a decision totally opposite Gilbert told us to take our time to really think about it gave us a bid that was great for us and we appreciate him and his crew that worked on our home. The owners of this company are so very lucky to have people on there team that are this amazing. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts I said to my husband we definitely are blessed to have this company in our lives and will always sing theit praise. Just had AirMaxx install a hybrid furnace/heat pump system. Had two other bids; one from a company that advertises heavily on TV. AirMaxx gave their bid on the spot after a brief-ish but thorough inspection of our existing very old system. The other companies spent over an hour doing their inspections and then each had to have another person come to provide a replacement estimate. At the end of the day, all three had same conclusions, but was surprising how drawn out the process was except for AirMaxx. The other companies gave many "add-on" options, which felt like upselling versus just providing the best replacement system Again, AirMaxx was much more straightforward and focused, and gave the best bid and with Carrier products and Ecobee thermostat system. We asked about some of the "add-on" features that the other companies had suggested, i.e. replacement insulation, zoning, etc. AirMaxx rep said they could provide but wasn't really needed given our square footage, ducting, etc. Did a very nice one day installation. Showed up on time. Cleaned up thoroughly before leaving. Nice crew: Roma, Vadym and Sergei. Has only been in for 2 weeks. Will update if anything else to report as we use the system in the months to come. But, thus far only positives about this company!!! read more

We are very disappointed with AirMaxx's limited willingness to solve a problem with the system they installed. We bought a new heat pump AC system from AirMaxx and at first things went well. Eventually, though AirMaxx abandoned us and the system they installed. The problem is an unpleasant plastic smell that started on the day of installation. AirMaxx told us the smell was temporary and should be gone after an hour of running the system. The smell did not go away, even after several weeks. We finally got AirMaxx to come back out to diagnose the problem. According to them, the original heater fan motor was the source of the smell. But they had difficulty even opening the motor and they left it disconnected while they ordered a new motor. We waited weeks for the new motor and finally called another company to assess the original motor. This technician from the other company reinstalled the motor, put a heat gun on it, and checked the amperage that the motor was pulling. He concluded the motor was running OK, but could not diagnose the smell. We called AirMaxx again and they--still convinced that the motor was the issue-- replaced the heater fan motor with an after-market motor. They never tested the original motor: they just said the motor "feels hot and really, what else could it be?" The possibility that a section of new ducting installed by AirMaxx and its seals being responsible were dismissed out of hand. It is now 5 months later, the "temporary" plastic smell is still there whenever the fan is turned on, even with the replaced fan motor. We fear that now the smell will be worse when we have to turn on the heater this winter, since the plastic smell gets worse when the attic/ducting is hot. When we told AirMaxx that the plastic smell was still an issue, Alex became belligerent, YELLED at us and curtly told us the problem was ours to deal with, and they would have nothing further to offer. Although we would like to call another company, if they are reputable, they don't want to invalidate our warranty. read more

I think my review is going to mirror another for this company. The night before a major holiday my air conditioner wasn't turning on and, of course, it is a week of a heatwave- with 94 degree days. I was freaking out as 26 people were coming over the next day. We requested a quote at 730/800 at night and Alex responded, right away, that he could come right over and take a look at it. He literally dropped everything and saved us. He found the problem (mouse chewed a wire which caused the transformer to die) and he had all the parts with him and had it working in an hour. He even added additional parts so that if the mouse was to return, it wouldn't cause as much damage as it did this time (added a fuse that should have been there to begin with). Superhero may make him blush, but Alex saved us! He was polite, efficient, and even vacuumed the carpet after being in the attic! read more

I had tried 3 days to change igniter but turns out it is good and I almost buy new one which it is $200 online . Then we called AIR MAXX and have the job done with much better deal . I have left a good review on Yelp for the AirMaxx and now it seems to have disappeared. What is going on with Yelp? Anyhow, I'll try to give people my experience with the AirMaxx in comparison with two other companies I tried to fix my A/C in the middle of the recent heat wave. First company came out for assessment in two days after my call and sent me a quote two weeks after. The second company scheduled for the technician to come to my place for the A/C assessment two and a half weeks since the call. When I called AirMaxx, the company owner, Alex Gozman, came to assess the necessary work the very same day and he found a window in his busy team schedule three days later. He also was able to squeeze in my work in an accidentally open time schedule. The work has been done expeditiously and the A/C is working perfectly since then. Besides, Alex suggested that his company will perform maintenance of the A/C if needed. I would highly recommend AirMaxx. In spite of a few negative reviews, I saw on this Yelp site, my experience with the company was extremely satisfying. Mind you, this was unusually hot weather in San Diego and they were able to fix the problem promptly and with the high quality of the work. read more

I paid Sam's heating and air $5,000 to replace a broken condenser a few years ago. My house never got cold enough and it kept leaking freon. I had to pay over $200 each time to recharge the freon. Now they're phasing out freon and the last leak caused me to need to replace the entire condenser which was only 2 years old. AirMaxx replaced it with the correct size to get my house nice and cold and they had a 6 month 0% offer that really helped. Alex came out and gave us an estimate on a full central air system for our newly remodeled home in La Mesa. He took his time with us, and really explained things. The other estimates we got were not nearly as thorough, and it was a very good price he gave us. We got on the calendar, for a couple weeks later. When his crew came through, it was 5 guys, and they got it done in 1 day! They tested everything, and it looks great! Very happy. Alex is such a bad ass and a lifesaver. I was trying to switch thermostats and blew a fuse. A handyman couldn't figure it out, an electrical company passed on the opportunity, and another hvac company wanted to charge hundreds of dollars. What I appreciate most was that Alex diagnosed the problem by phone, then came by the next day though he was booked solid, and solved the issue in 10 minutes. He knew exactly what to do. Even went up into the attic and made quick work of the fuse. The price was only $90, which he quoted upfront as well. I was happy to pay even more than that. My furnace did not ignite, I searched on yelp, and made a call to Air Maxx, they responded very quickly, and scheduled a visit at my convenient time. I received a call 15 minutes before the technician arrived, and he came on time. His name is Alex. Alex spent only several minutes and quickly found out what was wrong. He was quite confident with his diagnose before he was retrying the furnace. I feel he is a very experienced technician. He was right, my furnace immediately ignited after his fix. I am so glad. I was prepared to pay hundreds of dollars to get it fixed, because I didn't know what was wrong, but I actually only paid far less than a hundred. Thanks, Alex. read more

Airmaxx - It ignites again, great work - Heating & Air Conditioning/HVAC Near Me - El Cajon, California

Guzzling electricity and with the new California law passed where companies won't support old AC units using the old "freon" it was time to replace my A/C. I searched around for quotes. Ended up comparing between Airmaxx and Sherlock. Sherlock has the fancy Lennox model which I was interested in. Airmaxx only deals with Carrier. My current model was Carrier and I almost never had any problems with it. It was just out, VERY noisy and next year I won't be able to get any service on it so I bit the bullet. Edgar came over to quote from Airmaxx. He was very knowledgeable and patient. Saw exactly what I would need which was only to replace the Condensor and Coil. He said my furnace was fine and didn't need replacement. Sherlock wanted to replace everything (including the service) in order to get the best SEER rating. Don't be fooled by the "SEER" gimmick. Lennox said it can do UP TO 26 SEER rating. After deep research, there is only 1 model of Lennox that can do 26 SEER. It's a 2 TON unit and it needs to be matched up to a very specific coil and furnace. I got quoted nearly $18,000 for a full Lennox system install which would give me a 21 SEER rating because I need a 4 ton system. I could downgrade some of that but I was looking at roughly $16,000 for replacement with Sherlock. I decided to go with Airmaxx. After rebates and discounts it was roughly $6000 to replace a 4TON Condensor and Coil unit which included all the work to install which is replacement of lots of stuff AND they even took care of permitting. Sherlock was additional fees ontop for permitting. Carrier is a great brand. Been around for a long time so I'm confident in these models. The Lennox models are relatively newer so its unknown how long they run without major issues but their SEER rating is supposedly better. For me, the extra $12,000 was not worth the difference of 17.5 and 21 SEER rating. It would take me years to recover that cost difference. That being said, Airmaxx showed up on time. Their install crew was incredible. Very efficient. Very nice. Very clean. Dialed it all in. Replaced electrical, parts, plumbing, etc. Even installed the a new ecobee 4 wifi theromstat. Cleaned up and were in and out in half a day. All of the permit stuff has been easy. People calling for inspection and city permits all handled and covered. On top of all that, there's been a small noise in the attic when the AC kicks on. Minor vibration noise I could hear at night. Edgar came out and took care of it. No problem. He's SUPER nice and helpful. Highly recommend Airmaxx. read more

I couldn't be happier with the service! I called on a Saturday morning hoping to get a technician to fix my tenant's A/C unit and they were able to dispatch someone within 2 hours. He called to explain the problem to me and fixed it on the spot for what seems like a reasonable cost. They even trusted me to pay later. I called Friday at 640pm for a free diagnosis/consultation yesterday for my failing AC system. Our technician, Gilbert, came out the following morning. He proceeded in a very logical manner explaining everything in detail. He gave me all the options and their related costs. I decided to opt for a repair(freon and sealant) and my unit is now pouring out cold air. I suspect the price was reasonable and in line with most other companies. I am happy though as I sensed Gilbert was very honest. I think it is best to prioritize honesty so that way you only pay for necessary services. read more

Great experience with Airmaxx. My tech was Val and he was extremely professional. I had an issue with our Nest thermostat. One of the wires had come loose and wasn't connected correctly. I watched several Youtube videos but didn't want to risk making the issue worse by connecting the wrong wire or accidently touching the wires together. Val came over took care of the issue in a matter of seconds. Took a look at my air filter and recommended a change and also took a look at our freon level. It was low and he refilled it for $150. A week later we had an issue with the drain line with our AC and Val came out and assess the issue and gave us his recommendations. The AC company that installed our unit came out and I gave them Val's recommendations and they fixed the issue. Overall a great experience and would highly recommend Airmaxx. read more

We decided after 23 years, it was time to replace our AC unit before it died on us. We got 3 quotes, and Airmaxx while the less expensive approach, was also the best approach. Edgar was awesome in terms of explaining the system, having it designed and they showed up on time. Guys were super clean in removing all the old units and setting up new duct work and a 3 station variable speed unit. Completed the job in 1 1/2. Last night (Thursday) there was a power outage in our neighborhood. When the power came back on, my air conditioner wasn't turning on. I checked the fuse box and all fuses were "On." I went ahead and tripped them anyway, but still no luck. The heat and humidity rapidly increased in my home. Today's projected high was 81 and I am very heat sensitive, so I went to Yelp and sent urgent bid requests to several companies. All email replies said the soonest they could come out was Monday! Horror! Because of seeing clients all day, I wasn't able to phone Airmaxx until 3:15pm (their email hadn't mentioned when they could see me). I described my situation. Guess what the first thing the guy asked me? If I'd called the company I'd bought my AC from to see if they would come and fix it even though it was out of warranty! I was so touched that he would suggest giving business away. When I asked about scheduling with Airmaxx again, he checked and told me someone could see me between 4 and 5 pm! Such a great relief! Alex came at 3:55pm. Again unbelievable--5 minutes early! Alex spoke and acted like an expert professional and within 5 minutes diagnosed that I hadn't properly flipped the fuse switch all the way, so even though it appeared in the On position, there was no electricity going to my AC, educating me that I had to make sure to fully flip the switch All The Way to The Right and Back. I've created a Contact card for Airmaxx because of Alex's expert, clear, professional performance and his excellent communication skills. I'd been hesitant to believe that Airmaxx could really be as good as the Yelp 719 ratings indicated (720 now, with my review), and am So Very Happy I didn't listen to my doubting mind.
