Being blessed with bad teeth, I would consider myself a "power-user" of dental care throughout my life. I've been seeing Dr. Labombard for 7+ years and he is by far my favorite dentist I've ever had. His knowledge and willingness to share with me what's going on with my teeth has been incredible. He has my full trust and he's a great guy! The way he treats his staff is second to none. Respectful and kind. My regular hygienist, Dylan(sp?) is also the best hygienist I've ever had. She's so thorough and gentle. Years ago this article confirmed my suspicion of dentists and validated some of the experiences I'd had with them: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2019/05/the-trouble-with-dentistry/586039/ I tried multiple practices in town and had fillings recommend to me every visit I had. I'd go to a different practice for a second opinion and have fillings recommended to me too - but of different teeth from what the first practice recommended! Extractions, gum work, all kinds of additional procedures were suggested to me with the underlying threat that if I ignored their advice, I was neglecting my health. Enter Dr. LaBombard and Airport Dental. In 5 years he's only once told me I've needed a filling, and I have had zero issues with pain or infections so I don't think he is undertreating me. My wife, who takes meticulous care of her teeth, also used to regularly have fillings recommended at other practices. At Airport Dental she's had no such issues. The office is clean, quiet, and well-lit but it does not have the spa appearance (or location) of other offices in town. But I'd suggest you ask yourself where those fancy offices are getting their money from. The hygienists are all great too and everyone in the office seems to get along. I've had multiple hygienists work on my chronically tea-stained teeth and they've all been great but Dillon has deft hands and the patience of a saint. Dr. Denelle Walton and the staff of Airport Dental are great. After much trial and error, I think I've finally found a dentist office I can stick with. The office is mall, but everyone is super nice. It is also modest - no television sets or anything - but I feel that those sorts of things are ultimately paid for by the customer. In other words, Airport Dental seems sensitive to people's budgets. Dr. Walton and her hygienist are both skillful. I was pleasantly surprised when the anestesia shots didn't hurt as bad as at other offices. I had my wisdom tooth pulled there, and I was fine with simple aspirin. Also, I had my front teeth bonded just this morning. I think she did a fantastic job. They look natural and feel smooth. This review has been updated to reflect the fact that Airport Dental Care was recently (summer 2015) sold, and that the dentist mentioned in the original review has left. I was quite pleased with the new dentist and hygienist. The dentist is amiable and the hygienist very, very competent. I like that magnifiers are used during the cleaning, as it means nothing is missed. The new receptionist didn't seem to know if my previous dentist would return or not...but I later found out that Dr. Danelle Walton (and perhaps her husband as well) was opening a practice a few miles south of Airport Dental Care. While I'm not dissatisfied with Airport Dental, I may try Walton Family Dental (which opened a matter of days ago) just to see. ------------------------------------------- Previous (5-star) review from January 2013: I highly recommend Dr. Walton, as she is everything anyone might want in a dentist professionally and she's nice to boot! We love Airport Dental and can't imagine going anywhere else. After trying several practices in Austin over the past decade, we finally found a place where the dentist is careful and conservative (I.e. doesn't insist on a bunch of unnecessary procedures), and the staff are a well-oiled machine. I've never had to wait when I show up to an appointment, and the hygienists are incredible and actually remember your dental history. Believe me when I say Airport Dental Care is hands down the GREATEST dentist office in Austin, possibly the world! Listen, I'm terrified of going to the dentist. I always have been. It's why I put it off for years and years. Weird how ignoring problems doesn't make them disappear, huh? Well, I am SO SO thankful I found Brian Labombard, DMD , Nelda, Kate and the rest of the friendly staff at Airport Dental. I came to them with some gnarly cavities and never once did I feel judged or shamed. Dr. Labombard patiently explained every step of his treatment plan for me, taking the time to get into the context and reasoning behind each phase. He goes above and beyond to make sure I'm as comfortable as I can be. I have chronic sinusitis (aka I'm a mouth breather-darn you, Austin allergies!) which can make dental work extremely anxiety-inducing for me. Dr. Labombard is the first dentist who has ever put my comfort first. He'll work in 10 second intervals to give me time to take some deep breaths and not freak out about choking. When I had to eventually get a root canal, he made sure the endodontist understood my anxiety and fears so that my treatment plan could account for them. If you're looking for a fancy-pants spa-like dentist office, this probably isn't the place for you. But if you want a honest, compassionate dentist who is funny and personable too, book an appointment at Airport Dental Care asap. read more

This is the best dental clinic in Austin. The care is superb - everything from teeth cleaning to assessment of gum problems and cavities is easy-going and clear. I've been to clinics where I felt unsure if the dentists' recommendations needed to be followed... I didn't trust them. Airport Dental Care is nothing if not trustworthy. They've been good to me for over a year now. Everything is inexpensive - even out of pocket expenses. To top it off, the staff is kind and warm. I actually enjoy my biannual visits. Like most sane people, I absolutely hate going to the dentist. But I really love Dr. Walton (née Kazmer). She really takes her time, explains exactly what she's doing and what you can expect to feel during and afterwards, and checks in with you to make sure that you're not in pain. I recently had my first root canal, and while it certainly wasn't a pleasant experience, Dr. Walton took great care of me and made it as painless as possible in all senses of the word! Another 5 star review for Airport Dental. I probably never would have thought to use them, but my wife bought a Groupon one day for herself. The pleasantries begin when you walk in the door. The receptionist Rosemary is so helpful, friendly and fun to chat with. As I thought might be the case, my wife needed some work on her teeth. But surprisingly little considering what I have heard constitutes as a dental visit in China. She had 4 cavities filled and 2 wisdom teeth removed. Ying was nervous as hell about the work, but Dr. Craft was very patient and sympathetic to my wife's needs. She is just overall a very kind lady! Since it had been a while since my last dental visit I decided to hop in the chair too. Actually, I am kind of a hypochondriac too and had convinced myself I had an abscessed tooth. Fortunately that was not the case. Although I did have the first cavity ever in my 39 years. That includes baby teeth. Quite a run, eh? I wasn't sure what to expect, but nothing was painful when they used the drill and filler. And Dr. Craft was again interesting to talk to and she kept me in the loop all the way through the procedure. While we were there, an oral surgery clinic they refer patients to brought by a pie and Dr. Craft even offered us some! Now when was the last time you were offered something sweet at a dentist? We had a good laugh about that!. We'll definitely be back for the standard cleanings and check ups. It's not in the nicest strip center, the nicest part of town or the easiest to get to, but isn't it more important to actually find a dentist you like and trust? read more

OK, maybe I'm weird (well definitely I'm a little weird at least) but I actually like going to the dentist. I just sit back and close my eyes and almost fall asleep. I picked Airport Dental because it is very close to my house. The location is strange - a strip mall off Airport. The office is very clean. There are great pictures of flowers hanging on the walls. The office was never crowded and I never have to wait longer than five minutes after arriving. Everyone that works there is very nice; from the receptionist to the oral hygienist to Dr. Craft. Dr. Craft is very down to earth. She tells you exactly what is going on and always checks to make sure you are doing OK. She is also very competent and knows what she is doing, something I think is very important in a dentist! I had to work with the receptionist to figure out a billing issue with my insurance company and it was no problem. This is a great dental office. read more

I could not possibly have been more pleased with Airport Dental and the care my children received from Dr. Craft. I have a dentist phobia. I am not scared of procedures, but I always hate how condescending they can be - and how they make me feel embarrassed and like a total failure as a human being for having the audacity to have teeth in less than pristine condition. It's as if they have no idea that dental care is expensive and most insurance coverage crappy. Between that phobia and lack of insurance, our dental care has been spotty at best. Suffice it to say that this is the first visit either of my children have had in 4 years. And it was fabulous. I chose Airport Dental primarily because of their website and the videos of Dr. Craft. Her warmth and dedication come through on the videos, so I gave them a call. I explained all of my issues and my embarrassment to the receptionist Rosemary over the phone. She was instrumental in my decision to go with Dr. Craft, and was able to schedule both my boys back to back TWO days after I called. Dr. Craft was exceptional with me and my boys. She tended to their teeth with real friendliness in her eyes and words, and assuaged all of my concerns. She explained to them and to me what needed to be done, and what I could expect ongoing for a 12 year old with all of his adult teeth in, and for a 9 year old with a mix of baby and permanent. Rosemary had treatment plans and options that she went over with me, explaining what was covered and not covered by my insurance, and the best way to schedule the treatments to meet my financial and time requirements, as well as plan deductibles and annual maximums. Airport Dental is on Airport @ 38th. I live off of 290 & 1826. That's an 18 mile drive. I must have passed 100 dentists on my way to see Dr. Kraft, and I will be doing it again for as long as necessary - THAT'S how good she and her staff were. read more

Dr. Craft is a fantastic dentist. I highly recommend her for her friendly competence, professionalism, and chair-side manner. I have visited her twice: once for a cleaning and tooth chip repair, and once for the removal of a tooth per my orthodontist. She does a terrific job on everything. This office on Airport and 38th 1/2 Street is centrally located and easy to find. Don't be put off that it's surrounded by payday loan shops -- it's right by Mueller and they're getting a head start on improving the area. The staff is excellent and friendly. Rose processed my insurance with no problems whatsoever, and she even was very helpful getting my dental records transferred. **UPDATE JULY 2014** Dr. Craft has moved on to a different office in Cedar Park, but I had to update my review because I still love Airport Dental. Dr. Walton is friendly and a wonderful dentist, and the rest of the staff is just amazing. Now that I've dropped my dental insurance (my chompers are fine, so I decided to try a year of paying for cleanings out of pocket), there's nobody I'd rather give my hard-earned dollars to go see. After cracking my back molar. Dr. LaBombard's staff took me right in the next morning. Once i arived and filled out the paperwork. The staff began verifing my insurance. A couple of minutes later Dr. LaBombard found out I was in severe pain. He ordered his staff to immediately take me back, and worry about insurance later. Dr. LaBombard quickly numbed my tooth in order to take ex ray's. Then pulled a quarter cusp out and filled it using a sedative filling. The visit was only 30 minutes and I was able to return to work the next day. The next day he called me personally checking on my status and letting me know if I needed anything. This is my long overdue words of recommendation and praise for Dr. LaBombard and his team, brought about by an email reminder of my upcoming appointment--which brought to mind the thought "oh, it'll be nice to see them again" rather than the annoyance and/or dread that I'd always felt for prior dentist visits. To set up why Airport Dental Care is so good and so worthy of your decision for a dentist, I need to give a little background: There seem to be two core reasons that people dislike going to the dentist. The first is the phobia of it--the discomfort, the sharp things, the bright lights, etc. While I've been lucky to not be affected by this one myself, I know it well from my wife, whose review happens to be a few below mine and who hadn't been to a dentist for years until I, having found Airport Dental Care upon a friend's recommendation to be a thorough, professional, and above all personable and considerate visit, told her "trust me, they'll listen to your needs and fears and do you right, I can tell." It turns out that they absolutely did, and she's been going with minimal trepidation and leaving grateful ever since. My own prior avoidance of the dentist was for the other core reason: money. I didn't have dental insurance for a few year and then, when I did and found a dentist through my dental insurance provider and went in and was told I had however many cavities and a dire need of this and that and the other, I wanted to do right by my mouth and health and, hey I have insurance now, that's what that is for, right? That'll cover it? Well, I learned the hard way that, even with insurance, a visit to an unknown, untrusted dentist can be more like a visit to a mechanic. Even the way that this lesson fully sunk in was eerily similar: it was only when I tilted back in the chair, bright lights glaring down, and my whole head seemingly numbed up for the (routine, but new-to-me and much more involved than any I'd experienced prior) procedure that I was brought a clipboard with the new, revised estimate for my responsibility for the procedure already underway and which I had been told was vital and urgent. Now, I don't doubt the necessity of it, and the work this unnamed dental office did seems sound enough several years, but the way that they were purposefully manipulative with the cost and the absolutely unethical timing of their revealing this to me seemed an injustice on a massive scale: to treat essential medical procedures as a price-gouging opportunity (something that I found, after sharing this story with friends, was sadly common) was enough for me to swear off dentists again, despite the insurance. That is, until a year or so later, having moved to a different part of town, and feeling that slight twinge of tooth pain that I knew would only worsen if untreated, I sought out a new dentist. It was great luck that a friend's recommendation also turned up near the top of the insurance company's new proximity-sorted list, because otherwise I might have sought out elsewhere. After all, it's true that the office building itself isn't as impressive as other dentists I'd visited in the past, in standalone buildings or medical compounds newly constructed and meticulously landscaped. No, Airport Dental Care's setting is more unassuming than that, and I now consider that more than just incidental information. In fact, it communicates what Dr. LaBombard's office is all about: providing great dental care for the people who need it, and treating those people the right way. This has been way longer than intended (I'll blame the 2nd cold brew before lunch), but if you've read this far I'll trust that you've done so because you're hoping to find a great dentist, and I'll bet that you've been plagued by one, or even both, of the two core reasons above that people find themselves searching, often hopelessly, for a new dentist. And so here's my pitch: The whole team at Airport Dental Care will listen to you, will be patient and understanding with concerns you have, be they be about the procedure itself or knowing the cost of it, and they'll go above and beyond to provide excellent care. I could go into detail about the many ways they've proven this so far, but I'll spare the word count and simply reiterate: if you're looking for a dentist who will look out for you and your best interests, you've found it in Dr. LaBombard. read more

I was recommended to this place by a friend. Dr. Walton is such a nice dentist. She seems to really care about her patients. In fact, at one point I heard her tell one of her assistants to get something prep'd for a patient. The assistant said that his insurance didn't cover that procedure. Then Dr. Walton said to do it anyway bc he needed it and they just wouldn't charge him. I don't have insurance myself, so it was really helpful to have them go through every one of my options to come up with the best way to get me taken care of and still save me money. They are 30 mins away from where I live and, unfortunately, I have a lot more dental work to get done. But I will gladly make the trips over there instead of settling for a dentist closer. read more

As far as dentists go, like most, I am not a fan, and avoid it until I HAVE to go. You know, till my teeth are actually hurting me. I also don't floss regularly, so I dread the 'how often do you floss?' conversation. I also don't really care much about fancy offices, tv's, flatscreen blah-blah-blah's. I'd rather the money I pay go to better service and advice than anything else. I don't have a dedicated dentist in town, and wanted someone that was convenient, and had good reviews. Like thousands of others, I also don't have 'real' dental insurance, and wanted a place that would be fair, and not recommend tons of services (like teeth whitening). After looking at a couple coupon sites for dental deals, ($39 for exam, x-rays and cleaning!!) most of them had HORRIBLE reviews, so I decided that paying a bit extra for better information/service was probably worth it. I called in last week, got an appt time for about 5 days later, got a teeth cleaning, exam, x-rays and a very delicate tooth filled (which was VERY close to becoming a root canal - ick) for about $470. Dr. Walton was great. She asked me a ton of questions about my sensitive tooth, had me walk over and look at the x-rays as she described what she was saying, and agreed that a root canal would probably be overkill. She was able to squeeze in a filling between patients, as she knew the longer we waited, the more likely the chance that the nerve in the affected tooth was likely to go the way of a root canal. Her staff were friendly, not overly chatty (which is preferable when you can't respond!), and got right to work. Dr. Walton herself is very personable, and a straight shooter. I didn't get a long lecture about flossing, but it was explained to me what is happening to my teeth when I don't floss while we looked at the x-rays, and I saw some of the decay spots. I think I'll be happy to call Airport Dental my dental place of choice for now! read more

Call it absolute luck of the draw that I walked into this place. Was a little sketched out about the location, but when I walked in I was about nearly confused at how nice it was considering the part of town. I've been told that some people are just blessed with "good teeth." I've also always been told, that I have the curse. No matter how much I floss, Sonic-Care till my hearts content, and Listerine, I will never have "good teeth." Dr. Walton understands me. We take each NEEDED procedure one at a time. Pricing is fair and Jody is quick to take care of or battle the insurance companies for me, need be. I never have to wait more than 5 minutes to be seen. The office hours are great. I went in a few years ago when I had insurance and the customer service was phenomenal and they were thorough and kind but I guess I got spoiled because I have since then moved so I tried Lifetime Smiles and was horrified upon my first visit due to many circumstances including lack of empathy, racking up prices, and not even CLOSE to being as thorough as Airport Dental. Everyone in this office is friendly and helpful. The dental hygienist is thorough and spends enough time to get the job done properly. The dentist is great about explaining alternatives and helping avoid major procedures when that's possible. Fees are reasonable for such a competent, experienced dentist and hygienist.
