If I was just giving the wonderful people who were treating me a review, this would be 5 stars! They were wonderful, gentle, understood I had, had a bad experience before, and had not been to the dentist in a long, long time. I loved the people treating me. Unfortunately, my rating dropped dramatically with the people working the front desk. Though nice, they caused a money nightmare. I went in for the first time for an emergency exam, my mouth was sore and swollen. I gave them my insurance and went back. I paid what my insurance didn't and made another appointment to actually get an in depth exam, x-rays, and a cleaning. The receptionist gave me a page that told me about how much everything n my next visit would cost, and I squeezed that with a little bit extra into the dental budget. Later that week, Delta Dental sent me a receipt with how much they covered and how much I might still owe. (The amount I had already paid) I got there for my second visit, and I told everything on the front end looks great, and am sent back. I had finished the x-rays, exam and cancer screening when the lady from up front stepped in, declared that they don't take the Delta Dental that covers me, and that everything done that day was full price (they felt bad and gave me a tiny discount) and did I want to continue on with the cleaning? I stared at her in confusion and horror. Then, I showed her the insurance receipts where they covered me in the previous visit. I also showed them where my Delta Dental web page showed they were in my network. (Which was how I found them) They stated that they hadn't been paid by my insurance yet for my first visit a week before and would have to pay for that visit too. I got out of the chair in shock and declined the cleaning. I went back and forth with the receptionist, nearly in tears. I have a large ovarian cyst that was getting painful, and the money that was set aside to deal with that was the only place I could pull the money from. I paid the full amount, that they said I owed them. They said they would try to bill my insurance, and if it went through, they would refund the money. And if they got paid for that first visit, I would be refunded for that one too. (I showed her again where DD stated they paid for my first visit). They never even attempted to bill my insurance for the second visit. I later called DD and asked. They did call me many, many times to try and get me in for that cleaning, however! I answered each time, hoping they had figured out the insurance problem. Each time I was met with confusion, was told that they DO take my insurance, then told that they would find out what was going on and call me back. I would get a call back from someone else asking me to schedule my cleaning... again. I never got to talk to anyone who said they would figure it out again. (Or maybe I did, and they played ignorance). It's now been several months. They never attempted to bill my insurance, so I never got my money back. And because of how much I had to pay, I have been living on a prayer that the painful cyst does not burst because I don't have the money anymore to see my doctor. (Jan 1st, I'll have money in my medical spending account and can finally go then.) I will not, however, go back to this dentist office. read more

Divya Shetty is incompetent at diagnosing and recommending a solution and it is best to have a second opinion. In 2021, Divya Shetty recommended gum grafting to address gum recession and preventing bone loss and also got another specialist to back her recommendation. Apart from the cost, I would expect a doctor to make a recommendation after considering side effects and long term benefits. In the last 2 years after using a nigh guard and speaking to multiple dentists and specialists in Austin and in India, the clear recommendation was to stay away from surgery in my case. I have not had any issues since. My wife had a similar bad experience where she was asked to put a cap for a tooth without first completely diagnosing the issue. If you have an option, then avoid this business. read more

I highly recommend Dental Smiles if you're looking for a dentist! The staff is super friendly and welcoming. I was surprised by and thoroughly enjoyed the welcome tour of the office and getting to know more about the services they offer. I also enjoyed the way everything going on with my teeth was explained -they walked through all the scans they got and dove into the details about why it all mattered. My personal experience with Dr. Shetty, in particular, has not been good at all. She inexplicably delayed treating my tooth cavities more than once "to see how they would evolve" (a cavity does not disappear or gets better if left untreated), which caused the tooth decay to progress, leading in a couple of months to a broken tooth and two crowns, as the dentist who treated me indicated. I truly regret not having looked for another dentist earlier. If you are under her care, I strongly recommend you to always ask for a second opinion to avoid losing your teeth or having to pay for unnecessary and more expensive treatments which she frequently pushes for. I honestly believe that a number of her reviews are not genuine and, hence, are unreliable; thus, I strongly suggest you take them with a grain of salt. read more

The BEST dental experience in my life, and I've dealt with many dentists. I have 1. They treat you as an intellectual being. Unlike my previous experiences at other places, at Dental Smile, everybody told me all the details of procedures and explained what is going on in my mouth. They did a thorough examination on my first visit, measuring various things and laid out a detailed treatment plan. They even show you pictures of your teeth and gum in addition to the x-rays. 2. High tech They have advanced instruments. I'm a biomedical engineer, and I'm impressed. 3. High skill I enjoyed the process. Cleaning was professional, local anesthesia was painless, and the filling is satisfactory. 4. Kind Everybody is super kind! I can't even..., I can't even. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Dental Smiles, and I highly highly recommend this place to everybody. EDIT: The last treatment I had (3 minor fillings) is still causing some discomfort after 2 month. Perhaps the doctor was too aggressive...just sharing a data point. read more

So great!! I hadn't been to a dentist in 15 years and was mentally prepared for the worst. I fully expected to be humiliated and told that all my teeth had to go and that all I could afford would be some plastic Halloween vampire fangs and that's what I deserved for ignoring the good sense to get regular cleanings. And pain. I expected it to hurt a lot. What happened instead was absolutely lovely. The entire staff at Dental Smiles has been kind and compassionate. I did have to see them a lot so far, but every visit has been as pleasant as could be. I had the gentlest gum cleaning done over two days. The only reason I didn't take them up on the generous offer for a blanket was my fear of falling asleep. Today, the hardest part of some extensive cavity and filling work was leaving before I got to see the end of the movie I was watching. I can't recommend their office enough, especially for anyone who might be feeling uneasy or embarrassed. No shame, all the solutions. read more

General review: Friendly staff, weird office hours, and it's easier but inconvenient to have to walk in to ask questions instead of trying to reach a person by phone. My experience: I've lived in Austin for several years but still attend my family dentist 8 hours away when I go home for the holidays. My coworker recommended Dental Smiles since it's close to where we work. I was able to make an appointment for wisdom tooth surgery over the phone and was emailed the estimate. During this, they were very helpful with answering my questions over the phone. Since I would be sedated and unable to drive after, 2 of my friends agreed to pick me up and drop me off at my apartment before they returned to work. The morning of the procedure, I paid the $800+ and notified my 2 on-call friends. However, Dr. Jake said that I needed someone to stay with me for at least 12 hours after the procedure and would not perform the procedure unless I had someone. So imagine on a weekday morning trying to find an adult babysitter for myself, where that someone had to be immediately available (so not work normal business hours) and whom I felt comfortable having in my home while I'd be incoherent!!! That was definitely something that should've been made clear prior to the day of so I could call around and plan for it. Thankfully, I found a friend whose boss would let her work from home so I rescheduled my procedure for the next day. I came in the next day, and the Dr. asked where my friend was because she needed to be in the waiting room during the procedure. Uh, what?? My friend had only asked her boss if she could leave after the procedure. Again, frustrating communication issues from the Dr!! I humbly asked my friend if she could come right away... Afterward, she picked up my meds and drove me home. I was able to walk up 3 flights of stairs to my apartment unassisted and was perfectly fine for the hours following. My dental insurance sent me the EOB about 3 weeks later saying I owed only $400 for the procedure. I called Dental Smiles about my refund and was told insurance hadn't paid yet. Weeks later, I called again and they said their financial system was down. Waited more time, called again and was told the lady that handles the books hadn't been coming in because the system was still down. Several of my calls weren't answered and hit the vmail machine. When I did leave vmails, I didn't get any callbacks. This continued for months. I finally got it sorted and got my refund over 4 months after my service. I needed to get my regular cleaning done over the summer but didn't want to do it while I was still waiting on my refund. Once that was sorted and since Dental Smiles already had me in their system, I scheduled my "new patient" cleaning (took off work for a few hours to do so). They did a bunch of xrays and a consult, saying I'd have to come back for separate appointments to get my teeth cleaned. So now I have to take off work two more times just to get my teeth cleaned! Again, frustrating!! Communication could've been a LOT better so I could plan my time and budget for this. I have to get my teeth cleaned soon so I'll move forward with the service and update my review after. I'm HOPING everything goes smoothly this time... read more

But after much praise about her from my family, I decided to give Dr. Shetty a try. Needless to say, I left well-informed and impressed. Their staff is incredible. Very professional and friendly. I felt truly welcomed and though very nervous, they were kind in frequently asking me if I was doing alright (guess my anxiety was showing on my face). I knew my teeth were bad. I mean, I could FEEL it. I knew I had an infection, I knew I needed work. Dr. Shetty took time to tell me what was going to happen, explain her process and as well as what was going on in my mouth. I came into this office with my husband for his cleaning based on Yelp reviews and Dental Smiles did not disappoint! Dr. Shetty was absolutely amazing and Mary the RDH was so gentle and caring. She did a thorough job with the cleaning and you can tell she genuinely loves what she does. The dental assistant Brittany was amazing and was constantly checking up on my husband to make sure he was okay throughout his treatment. Dr. Shetty took her time during the treatment to make sure everything came out perfect and was not rushed at all to finish like most dentists. She seems to be about the quality of her work which is hard to find these days. All the employees seem happy and that helps make the experience great for the patients. The office is modern and beautiful and they play current music throughout the office so it's not completely silent like most other offices. As a spectator today I loved what I saw and enjoyed the visit. My husband felt well cared for :) looks like we found ourselves our dentist!! UPDATE: I had my exam done as well as my cleaning today and Gina the hygienist was absolutely amazing! New patient - amazing first experience with this crew of professionals. Requested an appointment in Sunday and was booked on Monday for Monday! They explained everything I ever needed to know about my insurance plan, teeth, and tooth care. After my examination, X-rays, and cleaning - I was given 5 star treatment during a replacement of an old, crumbling filling. I felt I was part of the staff during the entire process, because they included me in all conversations and showed me all photos and X-rays as they were cleaning and drilling. I managed four decades of life with only one cavity. I had to change dentists due to an insurance plan change, so I picked Dental Smiles. They were close to work, convenient and seemed friendly on the phone. After a visit to dental smiles, I was told I had three cavities that needed to be taken care of in addition to some other maintenance work. I had a really funny feeling about their "diagnosis." How did I manage to get so far in life with only one cavity and then suddenly become besieged by a mouthful of them? So, I patiently waited until I could get a second opinion from a totally different dentist at a totally different dental practice. Guess what? I have NO CAVITIES. None. Nada. Zip. I knew Dental Smiles was up to some funny business. I'm super glad I did not take their word for it and let them drill into four of my teeth that did not need to be drilled into at all. read more

I started seeing Dr. Shetty almost two years ago and was pleased with the service. I made an appointment in October to get a filling fixed, and upon examination was told I would need a $300 deep clean. I (stupidly) agreed, since they said having kids can do a number on your teeth, and made a separate appointment for the cleaning. I got the deep clean, during which the dental hygienist refused to give me any local anesthesia, because I am nursing. (I didn't realize that was her choice! And OW!) Following the deep clean I had to remind them that my original concern was for my filling, and they worked to get me in during the same visit. 6 months later I get a $40 bill for the filling. I call to ask why I am getting a bill so late, and the receptionist says she'll talk to my insurance and get back to me. I received no call back and 2 months later get the same bill in the mail. When I called this week and told them about my frustrating experience she said "I'm sorry that you feel that way. How will you be paying?" I won't be going back. read more
