I came to Austin City Dental after a couple of years without seeing a dentist. They did a great job with the cleaning, x-rays, and evaluations. The entire staff is very conscious of pain and anxiety, and they do everything in their power to make the patient comfortable. In terms of pain management, they get an A. The receptionists and office coordinators are very outgoing and kind. They remembered my name, and greeted me personally on calls and visits. I really appreciate the family-style service and environment. For office environment and customer service, a definite A+. I came to ACD about 3 months before my wedding date. My teeth were not looking their best - they needed whitening, and I had some older cosmetic work that was looking slightly off-color. Dr. Cook and team came up with a plan to start whitening and to "fix" the older cosmetic defects. About 10 days before my wedding, I came into the office to have the work done, but as we discussed the whitening results, I realized I wasn't happy with the shade we'd reached. Instead of urging me forward, Dr. Cook adapted to the situation by offering me a more aggressive whitening program for another week, and was able to find a time to squeeze me into the schedule just days before my wedding. I was super happy with the results. Not only did I get to a great shade of white, but the cosmetic work he performed looked outstanding. My teeth haven't looked this good in years, and I was super confident and happy to show off my smile on the big day. Overall, it was a great experience, and the team at Austin City Dental went above and beyond to make sure I had a great smile on my wedding day. A++ Thanks Dr. Cook and ACD team! They goofed when inputting my insurance and "thought" I had a higher level insurance. Thus all the estimates they gave me for the prodecures were way off, leaving me with an extra $1000 not covered by my insurance. Had they given me an accurate estimate I wouldn't have gone through with the procedure. No one went over the costs in detail before hand and apparently never verified with my insurance what would actually be covered. I don't know what else I was supposed to do in this case. I get that the firm you sign says estimates aren't binding and may not reflect the actual cost but how can you be off by $1000! read more

My new dentist. Absolutely loved my first time experience. Pinky took the pics, xrays, and prepped me for meeting Dr. Cook. She was extremely nice, professional, and accurate. I was in a bit of a time crunch and they did an amazing job within the timeframe I was working with. Front office were beyond friendly, helpful and welcoming. I had a few concerns which were quickly, but thoroughly addressed by Dr. Cook. He makes you feel comfortable and allows you to ask as many questions as you want/need without making you feel like you're a bother. I also love the feel/look of the office. Sadly, the love for this office is so over. I was a patient, and yes the dentist was very compassionate with regard to my dental phobias. However, I ultimately had a terrible problem with the worst timing possible. My son was getting married. Obviously, you want to look your best for this important occasion. Several weeks before the wedding, a front tooth that had been broken when I was a child, finally broke off at the gum line. Horror of horrors!! To their credit, they got me in and the dr devised a way to get me through the event the best way possible. For that, I'm am grateful. However, the permanent solution needed to be an implant. I agreed, and we began the process. After the surgery required to accomplish this, I was sent to see the technician who was making the crown that would replace the old one. Since this happened when I was quite young, I've been through this (crown replacement) several times, as well as working in a dental lab, so I am fairly educated on this topic. The lab tech shaded the crown while I was in her office, and I made the appointment to have it seated. When the dr came in to seat the crown, I noticed that while the color was really great, it was quite a bit smaller than my natural tooth. I asked that it be built up to match the dimensions of the one next to it. When I came back, it was no bigger and it was time to screw it in. My reluctance showed, but they pretty much insisted that it was as good as it was going to get and we proceeded. Suffice to say that my smile was ruined. It's obviously smaller, and therefore even more obvious that it's not my own, as well as it lacks the "contact" necessary for future dental health. I think the issue is that their lab has wonderful artists that can match a shade, but they use molds for creating their crowns and are unable to actually "build" porcelain. I think a good dentist should be an advocate for their patients, and this ridiculous thing should have been rejected by the dr immediately. After spending over $5k, I no longer smile in pictures. read more

Because of a severe dental phobia, I hadn't been to a dentist in well over ten years before my first appointment with Dr. Ma at Austin City Dental. I was terrified, but it was way past time for me to go to the dentist. Fortunately, they have nitrous and sedation, so I thought I could just sort of drug my way through the ordeal. I didn't even need the nitrous! Kristy, my dental hygenist, split my cleaning into two shorter appointments so it would be more comfortable and less scary. She was so gentle that instead of silently panicking like I used to, I actually dozed off a few times. Their x-ray equipment is modern, so the x-ray process was painless and quick. I put my nervousness level down as an 8/10 and I was probably exaggerating just a tad. All the same, every single person I had contact with was extremely professional and caring. I felt as though they took extra care to ensure I was completely comfortable. I felt at ease almost immediately. I know going to the dentist is not the WORST experience you can endure but it's certainly not at the top of my priority list on my days off. Dr Cook (senior) did my exam. He was as gentle as possible. Very easy to talk with AND relatable. At the end, they did their best to accommodate my night shift schedule for my cleaning. Which I always appreciate. Let me start with a little about my experience with Dentists: I have gone regularly since I can remember, but have moved cities five times in the last seven years. This means I have had new dentists every year or so. Austin City Dental, who for me is Dr. Cook and Martina the hygienist, is an incredible place. It was, by far, the best dental experience I have had. When I came to Austin, I checked around to find the best dentist by Yelp recommendations. The problem came when I couldn't find appointments for me and my wife. (Kudos to them because we both have pretty solid availability.) My wife then asked around at work, and all of them went to this same guy: Dr. Cook. We agreed that it made sense to try Austin City Dental, but were blown away by how great of an experience it was. Both Dr. Cook and Martina were personable and spent a good amount of time with my wife and I addressing questions we had about bite, our orthodontic progress, dental hygiene and some get-to-know-you stuff. Just be weary when a dentist tells you that your child needs to come back in for over $400.00 in dental work. My kids were patients here for about 7 years and although we always liked the hygienist and had good experiences with Dr. Cook, last week I had a really unpleasant experience with a person in the front office. A gal who I had NEVER met before pulled me aside to discuss my daughter's treatment plan and told me that if I didn't agree with what she was telling me to do "I should see a different dentist". The gal also said she would have the dentist call me, which never happened. It is unfortunate but I guess 7 years of patronage doesn't mean much these days. My comment to his response- HI- I have to say I am dissapointed that you haven't called me. As I left your office your gal agreed that she would have you call me, but I have never heard from you until now. But I guess I do understand why you are responding publicaly at this point. I don't know how you feel when someone you have NEVER met before basically tells you to take your business elsewhere, but it was unpleasant for me. And I felt if my business is not welcomed, I should take it elsewhere. I was given the option of talking to you after your gal told me I should find another dentist and didn't really want to stay and be humiliated further. In addition If your gal had allowed me to finish, my daughter had many xrays this summer when she had her wisdom teeth removed (6 months ago). My family takes excellent care of their teeth and does do X-rays as recommended. My daughter has never had a cavity and I familiar with both the reasons why xrays are needed and agree to have have them most of the time. I do not need to be insulted by having this explained yet again. You are simply missing the point or have had the facts incorrectly relayed to you. My recommendation for you is to personally take on the task of discussing treatment with your patients and work with your office staff on communication and listening skills. It is not for the quality of the dental care that I am leaving your office but the disrespectful customer service. The LATEST- The Dentist called and was kind and apologetic. I've been to MANY dentists in my lifetime. A few have been good, very good. But Austin City Dental is GREAT!! If you use one word to describe the business it's PATIENCE... Let's face it.. when someone is 'in your face' looking at your teeth, you want someone with lots of patience, that will take their time and assess what needs to be done. When I have a novocaine shot, that in of itself is painful. But Dr. Cook not only goes slowly, but he's willing to do multiple shots in different areas so that I literally feel no pain.
