Dr. Castor and his staff are very rare in this day and age. Recently I had a surgery and my front two teeth were busted out when the intubation was removed. Although the anesthesiologist said that he was going to cover fixing my teeth, it was impossible to get in touch with him once I left the hospital. Less than two weeks later, my 26-year-old son was killed and suddenly I had a funeral to go to, unrelenting grief that no parent should ever face, and two missing front teeth. Dr. Caster and his staff made sure that I did not go to my son's funeral without front teeth. Typing that now, it sounds funny, even to me, but there was nothing funny about it at the time. It waswas devastating. Not only did they make sure I had temporaries to wear to the funeral, but they also - including Dr. Caster himself - sincerely wanted to know how I was doing and even shared a similar situation with me one of them has been in. They took time to be human and treated me like more than just someone there to get my teeth done, but instead like a friend. Due to many health concerns, I see a lot of doctor. it is rare to see doctors that take the time that this dentist office took for me. Glad to get my regular dental prophy. Enjoyed visiting with staff. Wish that, at least twice in a row, I would receive the same or similar paperwork at the end of a visit that clearly showed the current balance on my account, full cost of the procedure that would be billed for the procedure done that day, perhaps your best guess as to what, if anything, you expect to receive from my insurer, and what I am billed that day. And that's in addition to a credit card receipt. The document i received yesterday with the requested information in bo way resembled the document I received at my last visit. read more

Went in recently and had a bad experience. I thought from the previous reviews everything would go smoothly, but I was wrong. Making the appointment was a breeze. But when they started the cleaning I was told my gums were bad. I get my teeth cleaned regularly and never have I been told this. The lady I think her name is Sally would not clean my teeth but said I needed to come back. Then the doc took forever to come in and see me. I was told I needed 2 crowns. Really??? So now I'm having the xrays they took sent to my previous dentist for a second opinion. Seems a little sketchy. read more

I went to Dr. Castor's office today to get a second opinion regarding a dental question. I arrived 10 minutes early to my appointment and they were ready for me. I was quickly checked in and escorted to the examination room. The dental assistant was great and Dr. Castor came in shortly after I arrived. I was very impressed with the quality of care Dr. Castor and his entire office provides. Not only did he answer all of my questions but he took the time to explain each item in a way that was easy to understand. I was thoroughly impressed by the examination and the quality of service. His office staff is equally impressive. Lucy and Ana were so incredibly helpful and kind when I initially called the office to set up the appointment. They followed up with me and provided superb and efficient service. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I would recommend anyone to go see Dr. Castor. So if you've seen me in real life, you know my teeth are pretty jacked up. Or rather, they aren't the shiniest pearls in the sea. Well, these days they might resemble an oyster pearl from the Gulf, what with all that free oil they keep giving away. This is partially due to my (prior) horrific dental hygiene habits, 12 years of smoking, and daily coffee intake (black please.) Thus, I feared the evil dentist, and avoided him at much cost to my social life for many, many years. Last year I broke off a bunch of one of my teeths somehow, and it needed repairs, and I didn't have insurance and had to use some cheapo crap place that really, really hurt and took forever and was miserable and oh god why didn't someone make me floss and brush all the time like you are supposed to? Anyway last year I got a bitchin' job with dental benefits and based on prior reviews here, I found Dr. Castor. So Dr. Castor kicks ass. So does his whole team. Dad-gummit for the life of me I can't remember the hygienists' name who deep cleaned me but she did a fantastic job, pain and anxiety free, which for me is a big deal. (And all this my friends, without the benefit of my dearly beloved NO2.) In summation, as much as a dentist can be awesome to someone with such effed teeth as mine, I gotta say I love Dr. Castor, his whole office, and the brave work they do on people like mine's neglected teeth. read more

Like a lot of people, the idea of going to the dentist frightens me. I haven't taken very good care of my teeth, and in my mid-30s it's starting to show. After reading the wonderful reviews on Yelp for Dr. Castor, I decided to book an appointment for myself and my fiancee to have our chompers taken care of. First off, the staff is a group of the loveliest and kindest people I've had the experience of working with. After my first visit and cleaning, I experienced some extreme tooth pain from my broken wisdom tooth and ended up in the emergency room from the pain. My fiancee had called their office late that night trying to get a recommendation on what to do, but they were closed (as it was 1am on a Saturday night) and not available. Despite this, as soon as the next day rolled around we received a phone call from Melanie making sure we were okay and had everything we needed. I want to also mention that they called me back on a SUNDAY when their office was closed. This is dedication and genuine care for their patients that I have never experienced before. Secondly, Dr. Castor is very kind and patient with his patients. He took time to explain everything that I needed to be done on my first appointment, and when we went back the second time to have some work done on my fiancee he even prescribed some more medication to help with the tooth pain while I waited for my oral surgery appointment. Everyone in Dr. Castor's office was friendly and helpful! I didn't have to wait too long- less than 10 mins in the reception area, and then I went back for my cleaning. Janis, the hygienist, was very nice and knowledgeable, but she was definitely NOT gentle during the cleaning. That is my only real complaint. I'll say this- it wasn't the worst or most painful cleaning I've had, but it also was definitely not the easiest or most pleasant. I have regular cleanings, so I didn't have any real problems, but still the cleaning took almost an hour and my gums were pretty sore afterward. Dr. Castor didn't try to sell me on anything extra (besides recommending a night guard, which I know I need- he told me the price and said he would let me decide, no pressure) and recommended a little reshaping on my front teeth because there is some chipping. He said he would do this free of charge, but we kept talking for a while and I think both of us forgot about it during the rest of the appointment. I only remembered once I was back at work, and am kicking myself now for not taking advantage of that, but it was a nice gesture anyway. He does seem to care about the patients and seems to be rather conservative in treatment, which I appreciate. read more

Today I'm leaving a review on this dentist office. So I arrive and speak to the woman at the front desk. She was sweet. I wait for about 40 minutes off schedule for my teeth cleaning. They did an okay job. When I went home and checked my teeth out, I noticed some spots that they complete missed. After my teeth cleaning, I was informed that I might need to get surgery on one of my tooth's. Castor came in and talked to me but he just felt very "over" the situation. Didn't feel any kind of engagement with him. Like he just came to tell me and as soon as he was done wanted to get the hell away from me. I don't know. I hope it wasn't something I did or said. :( were my teeth that bad? Anyways, that was my dentist for about 7-8 years. But I will be finding somewhere else to go. read more

Hands down the best dentist and staff I've ever encountered. I have super sensitive teeth, staff are always understanding, apply numbing cream even before a routine cleaning. Dr Castor does an oral cancer screening at each exam-never had another dentist perform such exam, and as a previous oncology nurse, I know how important this screening is. Dr Castor is very thorough, honest, and gives me the breakdown of pricing on all procedures prior to the appointment. I now live about 45 min from his office, but still keep him as my dentist because of how amazing he and his staff are. You cannot find a better dentist/staff in Austin! read more

Reviewing Dr. Mark Castor is easy...I've been going to him for three years, and he's the best dentist I've seen. I knocked out some teeth in a fall on concrete while walking a young frisky dog, so have seen him a lot. Mark is gentle and attentive, and all of his work has been of a high quality. Sitting in one of three chairs, you will be hearing soft music and seeing a relaxing view of trees. His staff is experienced and caring, both chairside and in the office. If something comes from the lab that doesn't seem perfect to Mark (even if it's a cap a tiny shade off-color) he will send it back. This was probably overall the best experience I've ever had with a dentist. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful, no one was "too rough" on me, and they are open on Fridays! I didn't know this but that is uncommon, at least in Austin. I was dealing with extreme amounts of pain and needed some pain medication ASAP, and both of the assistants worked hard to make sure that happened for me. (I made the appointment at 10:30am that day.) When I returned to get my wisdom teeth removed and some fillings, everything went smoothly. He definitely has great "chair-side" manner! Very honest- he even returned $20 to my credit card because one of my fillings went easier than expected! I avoided the dentist for 6 years before this visit- so usually a dentist visit is nothing to rave about. Just awesome all around. read more

I went to Dr. Castor because the reviews on yelp were so good. The staff was really nice. However they told me on the phone they accepted my insurance until after I got out of the chair changed their tune and said they didn't. While in the chair Dr. Castor told his assistant while looking in my mouth,"Ok now time to check for mouth cancer!" To say that out loud was first of all scary and second off all...not very caring. I left that appointment feeling demoralized. Thank god I do not have mouth cancer but why put that weird energy out there to put fear in your patient. Never going back. read more

I woke up this morning with a temporary crown that had popped out of place. And of course, it's the morning of the 4th of July, and likely a 4 day weekend for everyone else. I called Dr. Castor's office hoping to get an emergency number and did as well as his text/cell number. I sent him a text, and he called me back within 3 minutes, Within 1 hour I was sitting in his chair getting my crown cemented back in place. Pretty amazing guy, and I could tell that he genuinely cared about me, and that this wasn't an inconvenience for him. And what's even better about this place is that this level of service is carried our every day by the entire staff here. Their level of professionalism really shines and you can tell that each of these folks love working together as a team dedicated to making sure each customer is happy, satisfied and most importantly--comfortable. I met with Dr Castor and was hoping to have him complete a crown. My insurance changed though with the new year and I have to find someone in my lousy HMO network. Paloma discovered this while I was in the exam chair and she and Dr Castor were completely understanding and went out of their way to help me navigate my new insurance. Paloma called a week later to check on me. So, even though I didn't get my crown here, I'm very impressed with the customer service and helpful staff. Nicole did my cleaning she was so friendly and from the time I sat down she made me feel as if I was catching up with an old friend. She was very knowledgeable and made me comfortable and excited to meet the doctor speaking highly of him. Sylvia was the doctors assistant and she was also so sweet and funny! The doctor was hands down incredible. His staff is truly a reflection of him. He was gentle, patient and very kind.
