So I ordered a homemade cheeseburger add bacon all the way is mustard chili slaw I went with lettuce tomato mayo. Tater tots. And a hot dog all the way. With the Arnold Palmer to drink. I don't know if it's an off day for them. The burger is handmade fresh ground beef. However, I watch them cook my burger at no point did they add any seasoning? A lot of the flavor they came from the burger was the bacon added to it. The tater tots were nice and crispy however, no seasoning no salt was added. The hotdog had great flavor. Looks like a family room business. A lot of locals come here once again. I don't know if it was an off day but had everything been seasoned five stars for sure. Clean friendly restaurant. Great food, though a little on the small side for a large order. They offer both regular patties (frozen) or homemade patties for a couple bucks more. Decent sized breakfast menu available all day. At 12 noon on a Friday, we were one of the few customers. read more

This small town joint is spectacular!! Mouth watering and tender cheeseburger along with some delicious homemade french fries. The chili and slaw atop of my burger was also homemade and grandma worthy delicious!! To top this all off I had their famous Mountain Dew special which is Mountain Dew mixed with some grenadine. If you are in the Mayodan area, perhaps to visit the fledgling Mayo River State Park (more on that later), then the Airport Drive-In is not a bad place to grab lunch. As is my custom, I had the "Homemade" version of their cheeseburger, and it had a good flavor, complimented beautifully by chili, slaw, mustard, and onions. The fries were good and were not traditional diner fries, but appeared to be hand-cut. The real stand out of the lunch was the hush puppies. I've never had hush puppies like this: long tubes as big a round as a roll of dimes (see photo) -- they were delicious! Frequented by locals, some of the country banter is irresistible. Earlier in the day, I visited the nearby Mayo River State Park, which is still under development. Right now it exists in several parts as North Carolina slowly acquires land and cobbles together a cohesive single park unit. I would recommend going to the main park office and asking for directions to the portion of the park where the Fall Creek waterfall is--it is a very pretty waterfall (see photo). There is a trail downstream along Fall Creek and then upstream along the North Mayo River that will eventually take you to the North Carolina-Virginia state line, where Virginia is going to have a state park that butts up against North Carolina's. This is a really scenic walk through the woods along these two rivers. read more

Absolute gem of a diner/drive in. This nice little place is a little shabby on the outside, giving it some road food character, but it is bright and clean inside, and the service is always friendly and efficient. The breakfast here is outstanding, with nice portions. The sausage biscuits are just simply great, and if you ask for soft scrambled eggs, you get soft scrambled eggs. The biscuits, with or without the gravy ,are excellent. The sandwiches are also really good, especially the Chuckwagon Steak, any burger, anf their chili dog is special. It and the bun are both grilled, so it will take a little more time to get your dog here than at some places. The result is worth it - the wiener is of the Southern red variety, bun nice and soft, and the chili is excellent, once you add a little salt. I really love this little place, just wish it were in Greensboro. read more

Ordered biscuits & gravy, they had no biscuits. Asked what kind of steak used on the steak sandwich, was told ribeye - came out as rubbery, frozen steakums! Fry basket had about 5 fries in it so ordered another one-never got it. On the dirty, broken menu was a fish "square" which meant frozen, funny tasting patty. Ordered 2 cheeseburgers, only one came so that person got to watch everyone eat while his was still cooking. And to top it all off with, when we all got ready to pay we were told at the register that it was "cash only" and there was an ATM in the corner that will charge a $3.00 fee to get money out. Stopped by for a quick lunch passing through town and was not disappointed! Good hotdogs with well seasoned chili, bun served grilled/toasted which was a nice touch. Also enjoyed a large serving of fresh hot onion rings, reasonably priced and big enough to share. Tried some of homemade vegetable beef soup which was also very tasty. Banana pudding tasted homemade and was served warm. Very clean establishment both inside and out. Would definitely return! read more

I have went to the Airport to eat all of my life and it has always been wonderful! The airport is clean and servers amazing food!! The staff is always friendly and serve your food with a smile! The owners are always so nice! The owners consist of three brothers and one sister. The food is well priced! Breakfast is always so good!! The sandwiches are very good! This is a really cute little diner with good food and unbelievably good prices. We often stop by there whenever we go down to Mayodan Lowe's, which isn't too far away. I'm pretty sure that they take credit cards, as I recall. The staff there are always chipper and nice. One thing that really stands out to me about their menu is that they have separate listings for hamburgers using premade patties and handmade patties. Why would anyone order a premade burger disc when fresh handmade patties are available? I don't know but, there you go. You get the choice. read more

Especially the Airport drive in.Of course,A big hit to many-my fav has always been the Mt.Dew special and now my children enjoy them after school.There's so much to choose from on their menu and everything is very filling and get your taste buds going.Its so tough to say what's best but the cheeseburger and hot dogs are on top of my list.The atmosphere is always welcoming and they only have the sweetest employees this side of Rockingham County.Tucked away on the end of town its worth going just a couple of minutes further to stop in for visit. read more

There actually was an airport here until the early 1980's. People would fly in for sandwiches and others would drive into the curb service area (still active) to eat and watch the airplanes. Good hotdogs, decent burgers, awesome French fries, and hands down BEST milkshakes around! Super slow service, very mediocre food quality, and no signage telling you it's a cash only establishment...so you are forced to give the establishment another $3 to use their atm Instead of them joining the 21st century and accepting cards. We get it. Credit card companies charge a fee...but figure that into your menu. It's not that hard. I usually try places twice but no way because of the way this business is run. read more
