Came in on a Sunday, we found our new favorite! If your picky on looks your doing it wrong

The restaurant was fairly clean other than flies. We both ordered off the Daily Special board. I got the chicken casserole which was cold. As a matter of fact my black eyed peas was cold as well. I also got a side of fried squash and a side of pasta salad. The squash was delicious and hot and my pasta salad was cold but, it was supposed to be!! Our waitress could have used a lesson in social skills ... remember the customer is always right lol read more

My first time at this restaurant today and I really enjoyed it. We had the chicken tender plate with fries, rolls and slaw, a small two topping pizza, 6 piece nugget and hush puppies. Starting with the chicken tenders, in my opinion they were good but not great. If I were to eat them without any sauce I think they'd need more salt or more flavor in general but with ketchup they are good. The fries are probably some of the best crinkle fries I've had so I was happy there. The rolls I think are the Hawaiian rolls you get from the store, at least that's how they taste and its not a bad thing. My grandma tried the slaw and she said that she didn't like it very much. On the other hand she loved the hush puppies. The pizza was also very good and I was surprised how big it was. The sauce is a good slightly sweet sauce and the crust is pretty thin but also nice and fluffy but crispy on the sides. The nuggets reminded me of cook out nuggets which I enjoyed very much. Our service was great! Our waitress was so polite and patient with us and she also checked on us regularly. It's a nice cozy local restaurant and I'd give it a good 4 starts BUT they have Cheerwine so that alone gives them half a star more so it would be 4.5 stars. read more

After a morning on the trails, we were ready for some grub. Hubby had seen the menu flyer in the visitor center and we thought it was worth a shot. We're not fancy folks, we just like good food. I was initially worried they might be busy as it was noon-ish on a Saturday when we would get there but the parking lot said otherwise when we arrived. There was however a fire truck parked out front and a fireman coming out with a to-go order when we parked. In my experience, its usually a good thing if the locals are going there. We walked in to a small dining room with only one other patron at a table. Score - hopefully that means quick service for hungry us. Waitress quickly brought us menus and took our drink order. Hubby quickly decided he wanted steak & cheese, i helped kiddo decide on his pizza and then the waitress returned as i was trying to decide. So as not to hold up our food, I ordered the same as hubby. While waiting on our food, other folks started to trickle in. One party got menus and their drink order taken but then the waitress disappeared on them. Finally, an older lady came to greet some new folks coming in and she followed up with the table. Our food took a little longer than i might have expected, but i hoped that was a good thing - fresh made. When everything was first dropped off, it looked great! Kiddo's pizza looked especially yummy and he was not disappointed at all. I started chowing down on the first half of my steak & cheese and the flavor was good. Hubby started on the chips, which we both thought were ok but nothing to write home about. It wasn't until hubby took a bite of his sandwich that we discovered the problem with the sandwiches - the lack of filling. My first half was decent - but after hubby said something, i looked at the other side and it had hardly any filling - more cheese than steak or veggies. Both hubby's halves were skimpy. We chose not to say anything while there, as for one, we were hungry and two, the place had filled up by this point. As I ate my chips, i also discovered a big chunk of uncooked potato. Not sure if this is a case of a business skimping due to rising costs or a new employee or random inattentiveness. Would i try it again? Maybe. What we did have tasted good, hence the 3 stars. Great affordable meals. Good quality food and friendly staff. I have visited for both breakfast and lunch so far and wasn't disappointed.

Under new management and ownership. The salads are fantastic. I like the pizza too. Grab a milkshake or a piece of cake. The chicken tenders are hand breaded so they will take longer. (Worth the wait). Darlene and her staff always try to get the food out of the kitchen as fast as possible. Home cooking and great service. read more

This diner saved our return trip from Hanging Rock as no one wanted to eat our packed lunch and kids were starting to melt down from hunger. They offered us our own room in the back as we were traveling with another family so we didn't have to worry about our kids disturbing anyone. The food was good and as expected for a small town diner. We had the fried pickles (delicious) to start and their half order was large enough for 2-3 people to easily share. They had a good kids menu, and my wife and I both got burgers which you could add anything onto and the onion rings. Both were very tasty and met or exceeded expectations. Our friends got the hush puppies which came in long finger-like strips and were the best I've tried. Overall service was great and very accommodating and their pie (banana cream) was great too. For a small diner I was impressed with their iPad-like check out system and emailed receipt. read more

The food we ordered was not edible, and ended up in the trash. We would have just left it at that, however the new management took our criticism, and deemed we were just "keyboard warriors". Not only were we insulted and degraded as customers, it was of course not the restaurant fault that our food was literally trash. read more

Waited for 40 minutes for two burgers. The cook saw me standing there. Went and asked how much longer to be told that my ticket had been lost. Told her I didn't have time to wait any longer and she said it's almost done. Just buns no meat. Left the burgers and grabbed two drinks. Got down the road and realized both were expired. Not going back. wouldnt recommend it to any one. read more

I'm a local and used to love this place, but tonight was my first time to try it again under the new owners and management. We ordered three flavors of wings; teriyaki, barbecue, and regular mild. They arrived 45 minutes after we placed the order and they were truly the worst wings I've ever had. The teriyaki had no sauce, but had been soaked in soy sauce. We got our mild wings, and then another plate of slightly hotter wings, no barbecue. The skin was chewy, not crispy, and there were feathers on them!!! We arrived very hungry, but didn't even eat half. I was grossed out. The celery they served was old and bendy. The waitresses were complaining about how they were just over the day. I paid my $43 tab and left my 20% tip, but will never go back. read more

Y'all. Y'ALL. I know hunger makes the best sauce, so maybe hiking at Hanging Rock state park prior to eating here made everything more delicious, but I swanny! This place was so great! If you're craving foie gras and caviar, this isn't your kind of joint. But if you are in the Danbury area, and you want some filling food with local flavor, I highly recommend this place. The menu was varied - offering pizza to pulled pork BBQ. While we perused the options, we decided to have fried pickles as an appetizer. PLENTY for 5 or 6 people, but our party of 3 did some damage. I considered having a burger, but I opted for the pulled pork. Man! Really good! And the bbq cole slaw!!! Amazing. My daughter had the Philly cheese steak and said it was second only to a sandwich she had once IN Philadelphia. My dad had a hamburger steak sub and it was so big, he had the second half for dinner. We indulged in dessert, too. A homemade ice cream sandwich was a real surprise. I thought it would be kinda pedestrian but no. It was *delightful*, the cookie buttery, a little salty, and the ice cream so sweet. We also had dirt cake, light and delicious. The staff is as the name implies - family. A mother and daughter duo kept our drinks filled and made excellent recommendations. I'm very much looking forward to my next exertion at Hanging Rock so I can head back to Dan River Family Restaurant and try something different. read more

Last-ditch effort to feed ourselves before we braved Hanging Rock. It seemed like a local hotspot, and the people were nice. The food was cheap. It was still grimy though and we felt out of place there. read more

The food is affordable, however I did not feel as though the environment was as clean and sanitary as I would like. Considering it's location, I was not surprised, it is just an ol mom and pop place to sit and eat. The people are very friendly and the food tasted decent! I have eaten there several times due to it being one of the few places out her to dine at, have had their breakfast and lunch. Every time I have had the same impression. read more

Ate here today with my daughter after fishing and hiking at Hanging Rock. No, it's not a fancy place. But it's a great family style diner. We found it clean, and the food was good and reasonably priced with friendly staff. It will certainly be a place that we would stop again after a good day of hiking. read more
