Airport Inn - Grosse Ile The new owner, Pat, and his entire team were absolutely amazing. From the moment we walked in to the warm handshake and genuine "thanks for coming by" on the way out, my family felt like we were visiting an old friend's home for dinner rather than a restaurant. The pizza was SPECTACULAR, and the antipasto salad could easily feed eight people. Portions were generous, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the pricing was more than fair. I 100 percent recommend giving this new old gem on Grosse Ile a try. We will definitely be back. read more

We went to Airport Inn tonight and I have been going there since I was born. I personally know the prior owner George Windham, and the pizza used to be the best around. Since the new owner took over they eliminated the extra large pizza which was always nice to order to have leftovers that always tasted even better the next day. Tonight we ordered an antipasto salad, pizza and three beers. When the pizza arrived it had the wrong toppings on it, and we were told there was no charge for the wrong pizza, and a correct one would be made. Moments later an ugly women came over and said "We spoke to the owner and we are only going to charge you half for the first pizza, and we have to pay full price for the second pizza." I said "That is unacceptable as we are not paying for something that we did not order." She then said she would speak to the owner. The ugly lady returned and said the same deal again pay half for the first pizza that we didn't order and they are making us the right pizza that we have to lay full price for. I then responded "I would like to talk to the owner." The ugly lady called the owner Pat who was a complete asshole. He said that we have to pay half for the wrong pizza. We then cancelled the order and paid for the salad and the beers. They charged us for four beers and we only drank three! This place is lousy now and the owner Pat is an absolute asshole. The ugly lady even threatened us with the police if we refused to pay for the wrong pizza. Don't go to this place it's lousy and not the Airport Inn of years past. read more

I knew I would love this place. This bar is so tiny and adorable. It is one of the top dive bars I've ever been to. The staff is friendly and the pizza is outstanding!! They have a brick oven and they crank out top notch pizzas! Their crust is homemade and they have several flavors to choose from like garlic parmasen or cajun. If you're ordering pizza, be patient, good pizza takes time! I promise it's worth the wait. They have a full bar. There are about 4 beers on tap and they have plenty of bottles and cans to choose from. They only have a couple bourbon choices but they have plenty of Vodka and other liquor choices. They have a juke box so there is always good music playing. There is a pool table that seems to always have guests playing at. Covid has changed things for them a bit, they're only open Thursday - Saturday now. So if you're in the area on these days, you must try this place out! read more

Looks like a dive across from the Grosse Ile Airport! I have always past this place, but this was my first time actually inside here. This is such a great place!! Unique vibe in here, which I like! The bartender was super cool and sweet, her name is Patty! They have a full service restaurant along with the bar! The pizza... omg!! Some of the best in the area! Heard it gets busy, just depends on the time and when, but when I came around 4p, (they open at 3p), hardly anyone in there! read more

Always noticed and drove past this place and never had the chance or gumption to stop in for a drink. So glad I did! Wetted my whistle over a few beers shooting the breeze with some fine folks and staff. Cozy place! Just wish they didn't have limited hours. read more

Pizza is just ok. We won't be back. Took forever to get our order.. told us 30 min. More like an hour+

After a visit to the GIYC a friend decided I needed to visit this fine institution. Happy we went, it is a great place right across the street from the Airport where the locals meet. Some of his old HS friends were in town and we all met for a few drinks. Laid back and nothing special, which by default, kind of makes it special. read more

Cool bar with delicious pizza. The bar has a dive feel: Walls are covered with signs, knickknacks and other fun things to look at; lights are dimmed down low. There's a few t.v's to watch the game on and an electric jukebox. The large pizza was just enough for 2 and took about 30 mins. It was a pan style with the right amount of sauce and cheese. The crust is folded over to give it a type of stuffed crust. Stuck to bottle beers that night (they have any big commercial beer you could ever want.) Small draft beer collection tho. Everything was reasonably priced and service was good. Most definitely worth a try. read more

The best pizza i have had downriver!! Their crust is AMAZING! They use a perfect amount of sauce (not too much, not too little) and toppings are delicious! At first sight, you wouldn't expect airport inn to be the best pizza place downriver, but don't let the look fool you! I can't wait to go back. read more

Long ago and far away, this was the best place for pizza. Recently, we went in on a Sunday and found out that the pizza ovens weren't "ready" until after three. So we ordered a drink and decided to wait. The "waitress" didn't know how to make a margarita and offered one from a bottle-it was awful and after that, we decided to skip the pizza. Awesome pizza. If you like real, hand made pizza, this is great. a little on the greasy side if you go with peoperoni, but I get the grilled chicken on it, and this pizza rocks! a regular for me and my wife. We don't even have to order when we walk in the door.. the awesome ladies behind the bar automatically put in our order and draw a couple cold ones while we wait. The bar is cozy, and the staff is always nice. The Pizza use to be #1 followed by Michaels on the river in our book. I heard there was an older lady that made the all the pizzas. In fact you couldnt get a pizza unless she was in and working. There is no way the pizza is being made by the same person. It was the equivalent of a little Caesar's. Definition of hole in the wall. Good place to meet friends if you are from here for the nostalgia, not the atmosphere. Not a 5-star experience so for people complaining there are better restaurants in the area, that is kind of obvious. Having had pizza from this place, I'd stick with Jets or Riopelles on Fort Street..... It was the limpest, slimiest (wet) pizza I've ever had......of course if you like thin wet pizza, this is the place for you..... all the toppings slid right off and the pizza fell apart. When we order pizza we only order from the Airport Inn. We get their famous EBA (everything but anchovies) delivered. Not only do you get a great pizza, but it is delivered by Smiling Tobermory Mike!!! If you want a $5.00 pizza you know where to go. I have loved The AI's Pizza for over 30 years. The crust is braided and the toppings fresh. It's a must have. Lately, the menu options have grown to include Tuesday night tacos which doesn't sound too spectacular but at $1 a piece, fresh spiced ground beef, toppings to choose from and toasted taco shell, they are hard to beat. Also, homemade soup on a nightly basis until it sells out, and it usually does. Their 1/2 pound burger is the best I've had. I usually get it with pepper jack cheese. The staff is friendly and efficient. The decor? Corner bar. I love it as if it were my own. read more

Horrendous service, long wait on food. And we're the only ones here. I enjoy hole in the walls, but being a hole in the wall doesn't mean you can get away with whatever. Last night I waited for over an hour and after having already asked about the status multiple times, they came out and said the cook never got the ticket. I'll pass until they figure out how to run the joint. read more
