Easily the best pizza Downriver. The very best. The Del's Special with extra sauce and extra mushrooms is my go-to. But the spaghetti dishes and antipasto salads are great too. The service is personable, very friendly and the overall atmosphere much improved since they redecorated. The unofficial historian of Downriver, Tony, runs the place. Pick his brain and be amazed. I had dinner at Del's tonight with my mom and it was great! It was the first time either of had eaten there. I found their menu online last week and was so excited to discover a local place that offered calzones, which I haven't had since I was little. You can add one extra ingredient to the calzones, so I added black olives to mine and my mom added mushrooms to hers. Both versions were delicious! Our waitress was also awesome and super helpful! I loved the old-school decor with arcade games, a vintage pay phone, and framed photographs over the bar, too, We were both very happy with the experience, and I'll definitely be back in the future. read more

I haven't been to Del's in years but friends always say how good it is so when I moved to Trenton and received a $10 off coupon I decided to order carryout for a small birthday celebration. Big mistake. Ordered a large with two items and a small with two items. On the large the toppings were skimpy and on the small the toppings were all in the center, not scattered around. Next, antipasto salad didn't have any ham or olives but lots of celery, who puts celery in an antipasto salad? Romain lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and salami, that was the salad. The cheese bread was huge pieces of pizza dough with cheese melted on top and when baked they became one big lump of bread with melted cheese that ended up in the trash because you couldn't even cut it into smaller pieces. To make matters worse my $10 coupon suddenly became $5 and my daughter who picked up the order didn't pay attention to the coupon's value! Needless to say this is my last trip to Del's! read more

Arrive at 5:15 pm. Ordered by 5:20. Couple sat down in front of us five minutes later. Another couple 10 minutes later behind us. Then a large party next to us maybe 1/2 hour after we ordered. ALL ALL ALL of them got their pizza and other dishes before us. 6:00 rolls around, no pizza, 6:15 rolls around no pizza. Finally at 6:25 I finally said WTF is going on, tables that sat after us are already getting their bills. Maybe 10 minutes later finally got a pizza well done on one side, barely cooked on the other with toppings so uneven some pieces had no toppings at all. VERY VERY disappointed. read more

Sat down and waited 10 minutes before our server even came up to us. Then after placing the order, we sat and waited an hour and 20 minutes and still nothing. Our server never once came up to us to let us know how much longer our pizza would take, but she constantly checked on other tables. I finally tracked her down and when I asked how much longer she said she didn't know. I've heard this pizza is delicious, wish I could've tried it. Especially being 8 months pregnant, it sounded delicious. The least they could've done was comp the drinks that sat there and got watered down with ice while we waited. NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

I've heard Del's had the best pizza so I finally decided to try it out after a walk at Elizabeth Park. We didn't order pizza, but opted for the cheesy bread and were so disappointed. It tasted like plain dough, no seasoning or flavor with cheese on it. Some of the cheese wasn't even on all the breadsticks. I always like to support local restaurants and businesses, but this Del's visit was a bust. Jet's and Hungry Howie's, hell even Little Caesar's has way better cheesy bread. I still want to try the pizza at Del's, but after the cheesy bread fail I need a couple weeks. read more

I'll start off with the good. Service is good and friendly. I also like the food. Old school pizza and Italian dishes that hit the spot. The problem is the restaurant itself. I'd just call it uncomfortable. Tables and chairs are uncomfortable. It is very bright. Bad lighting. This is like eating in someone's basement. If you took someone there on a first date you might not get a second. This place desperately needs a makeover. read more

Del's pizza was like a much needed warm hug. The decor on the interior and exterior makes this place seem a little unassuming, but I can say I felt right at home while dined in. Each server greeted us with smiles on their faces and our waitress in particular was very friendly and made great suggestions. We ordered a chicken parmesan sandwich as well as a pepperoni pizza. The sandwich was incredibly good! The bread was soft and there was a perfect balance of ingredients. The pizza itself was soo cheesy and hit the spot right away! They've been here for decades. Always nice to visit a place so much a part of your history. The service is somewhat slow, but the wait is worth it. Pizza is always tasty and hasn't changed since they first opened. They have a full bar and drinks are reasonably priced. When you walk through the door, it's like seeing an old friend. Not much has changed. What do paneled walls, red and black decor. They even have a Pac-Man game you can play! Their Stromboli is very good and huge. The owner is a lovely, caring, passionate, and 100% Italian woman working to make the most delicious meals -- oh yeah, and she is in her 90s. She does what I could only dream of doing in the kitchen. I'm not only in awe of her dedication for her food, but the passion she has for her customers. You will often see her chatting briefly with guests, giving children ice cream, and having friendly conversation. This is the type of place to bring your family, or to go and have a quick brew with friends and enjoy a pizza. Not much has changed in terms of the atmosphere here - and I'm OK with that! You'll see nostalgic pictures, pics of famous folks, and classic Pac-man arcade video games. If you're looking for commercial frills, 2 for 20 specials, and blue margaritas, this isn't the place. However, if you're looking for the best tasting pasta sauces and dishes, homemade breads, fresh salads, round pizzas-- all served with a small town flare -- Del's is your place. Specifics I have tried: The chicken parm -- awesome --, the greek salad--awesome, the cheese bread app--awesome, various pizzas--awesome....I think you get my point. The bottom line is that this place is way more than just pizza; seriously, try the other dishes as well! I really, really hope this establishment lives on! Sidenote: The service is awesome! We got the keys to our new home down the street from Del's in Downtown Trenton. Celebrations began at an empty house, and we decided to scoop two pizzas and the amazing, chewy, heavenly, cheesy bread with the greatest marinara dipping sauce I've ever had. The pizza is also pretty good, I would give it 4-stars...but mannnn that breadstick recipe is 5-stars all the way. If you're looking for low-key, beer with your pizza, old-school arcade games in the lounge type of setting, this is your spot! C'mon, this is as good as it gets for Italian food in Trenton. I might be a little biased because as a kid I knew the owner's son and used to ride my bike to hang out here (before and after going to Elizabeth Park, which is right down the road - see my review for that place). But this is the real deal and a Downriver classic, nonetheless. As kids we would always get excited when Mom would get us Del's pizza. It's still good. They also have all the other Italian classics at reasonable prices and a casual dining atmosphere. Come to Del's and you'll see Downriver families that have been coming here for generations. The "famous bar" with many pictures of well-knownish diners above the bar is worth a stop in by itself. The whole establishment has a real homey and old school vibe that will transport you back to simpler times. Not fancy or pretentious, but time-tested. If there was a show called Pizzeria Rescue, this place would be the pilot episode. While waiting an hour and 15 minutes for the pizza, we watched 3 families leave due to no service. And when our food came out it had the wrong toppings. The entire restaurant filled up with smoke during our time there. And when the check came, I gave her a credit card to pay for a $40.90 check and she came back and charged me $50.90 because the other waitress, mess up in the math. There was Zero communication about the missed billing. She just took it upon herself to charge me more. I really didn't like that. read more

Haven't been out to eat much during covid, but it was time! Went to local spot that I knew wouldn't be crowded. They do a lot of carryout and it was a weekday. I was craving mamas pasta. We had reservations for about 20 people or so. They were very accommodating...however, the building was not. There were other large groups there too and it was wayyyyyyy overcrowded. You couldn't even get up to go to the bathroom because there was either a wall behind you or the person's chair behind you was touching yours. Breadsticks were really good and the salad was very fresh. The pizza though....ugh....not good at all. The pies weren't even cut through all the way so everyone had to pull apart their slices and that left other slices with no toppings or no dough. It kind of tasted like it was made 45 mins before we got there and then just warmed up. The cheese wasn't very "melty" - it was just greasy like it had been reheated. After the wait staff brought out the food, we never saw them again...no joke. My aunt was doing the bussing and trying to squeeze between seats to get us more cups and napkins. Service could have been better...they were really busy, but it looked like all large groups, so I'm sure most had reservations and they could have planned ahead before they got overwhelmed. Based on the other positive reviews, I'd definitely be willing to give this place another shot, but I will for sure not be going with that big of a group next time!! read more

Del's is the homey neighborhood place that you take your kids to, that your folks took you to, and your grandparents had dates at. It has been around since 1953, this location has been there since the early 70s I think. Same family running it, and "Mama Del" is still in charge - great pizzas and pasta. This is NOT a chain or a sports bar, (although the game is always on the 2 TVs there) where your pizza is rushed out to you. Everything is homemade, and they take their time to do it right. Prices are set for families with kids. Reasonable, with good portions. Bar is your typical beer/shot kind of place, or basic mixed drinks. Mostly bottled beer, decent selection of wine, nothing fancy but it fits the atmosphere. Its nice to eat in a place where you can actually talk to everyone at your table, instead of loud music and waitstaff trying to upsell the entire menu. My favorites: sausage and onion pizza, the "house special" pizza which has mushrooms, green peppers, ham and a ton of other stuff on it. The stuffed shells are INCREDIBLE. "Mama Del" makes that sauce every day and it is amazing. The antipasto salad is good. Diehly D. who reviewed below and insulted her must prefer his meals made by teenagers at fast food places. Yes, the decor is still from the 70s - its very clean but shows signs of age obviously. Places like this won't be around much anymore in our fast food lifestyle - you should make Dels a regular stop. Ordered two pizzas last night, one meat lovers and one veggie, for pickup. When we got there the pizzas were ready, nice and hot, and it cost less then I was quoted, which was very nice. Got the pizzas home and we loved them, nice crust, nice toppings, and it was not greasy at all. We will definitely be getting our pizzas from Del's from now on. Beware their menu lies... The large is not the 16" like their web site and menu states. Ordered a large and was surprised when I picked it up. So right there it started to go wrong. Got home and the pizza was not cut very good. The flavor was just ok, a bit odd but not horrible. They skimp on toppings, hardly any cheese. There wasn't enough sauce to talk about. The crust had a nice crisp to it, but still a very slight odd flavor. This was my first time trying Del's and it will be my last time. read more

My mother told me that her father would come to eat here all the time and that the food was supposed to be delicious. The pizza was so-so. The cook cut a chunk of the crust off because it was apparently burnt. I thought that was strange but went with it. However we also ordered some breadsticks and I literally had to stop eating when I pulled a hair out of my mouth that was baked inside the breadstick. I will never go back there, just thinking about that hair in my mouth makes me shudder and gag. read more
