We used AJ PaintMasters to help us with mold remediation caused by a water leak (which they helped us find the source of too) as well paint our entire downstairs which had all new baseboard, trim and doors. Both projects were done well and its very clear that both Alex and Mike care about their customers. Much care was put into the painting - everything was well protected prior to working and the work was very detailed. What I was extremely impressed with was their ability to patch large holes and cracks and make them invisible after painting - a talent I've never experienced with any other painter. I highly recommend AJ Paintmasters Plus for exterior house painting. I have a 2 story building in Novato with wood siding in which the old paint had large areas that were cracked and peeling. This was a difficult job because the house is located on a steep hillside. They spent a lot of time prepping, scraping, and sanding down to the bare wood where necessary. They also repaired the dry rot. The owners, Alex and Leslie, live locally. They are very knowledgeable and used the right high quality materials and supervised the crew. They did an excellent job that I'm sure will last many years. read more

Description Of Work: AJ Paintmasters painted the complete interior of our 3000 sq. ft. home in San Anselmo and repainted and did work on parts of exterior (which they did the original exterior paint work for the former owners), cleaned carpets and consulted on hardwood floor refinishing and tile installation. The experience starts with contacting Leslie, she is very helpful and knowledgeable. Alex, the owner, runs his business like a family, and it shows - everyone is involved and invested. Mike, his lead job coordinator is effective, efficient, writes every detail down and doesn't miss a thing - his work is meticulous. The painters directed by Mike are a fantastic group, pay attention to detial, and will redo an entire wall if they find one small defect in the paint - never a touch up job. Alex the owner was at the job every single day, not just at the beginning or at the end - every day. AJ Paintmasters uses only Low and No VOC paint, and they care about the health of your home. The work was perfect - the painting just an incredible job, and we have 11 or so rooms and a large main area - we painted many different colors, and every room came out perfectly, every wall came out perfectly, every piece of trim, door and window came out perfectly. Not only that, the job came in on time and within budget, which was EXTREMELY reasonable to begin with (we got 4 estimates). I just can't say enough about this business. Nowadays when "good enough" seems to be the best you can get from anyone, it's fantastic to work with people that think good enough isn't good enough, go the extra mile and want you to be happy with their work and will do anything to make that happen. As the building housed "tenants" the quality of the work was slipshod, and there appears to be dual standards for "rentals" vs. "owner occupied" properties. I recently bought my first home and had the daunting task of having to remove the popcorn off my celings. I knew it would be priciey, but most importantly, I wanted to be confident that done correctly. I did my due diligence and received 2 other bids and hands down AJ was the bar far superior. Terrible experience. Their workers ignored the contract to tsp, prime & fill holes in the walls. Spent the first day on their cell phones outside for hours. Never covered our bedroom suite as per contract. Could go on and on. Not what I was expecting from yelp reviews. So bad that we fired them mid contract. read more

I had AJ PaintMasters paint the exterior of my home and could not be happier with the results. The stucco on the south side of the house was a mess and I was really worried about how it would turn out. I moved from NJ about 2 years ago and knew no one nor knew anything about the area. Unfortunately, the house we purchased was in less than best conditions. What do I do? I turned to Yelp for help. I called a few companies and had them all give me estimates to do the interior of my 1930s 1000 sqft house. I had someone paint it a few months prior and they had done a horrible job so I needed someone to come and fix it. We had also torn down a wall and could see on the ceiling for it had been so that needed to be fixed. The baseboard also needed replacing. They came in and I instantly liked Alex. I knew I wanted him to do the job but he had come in slightly higher than the other guys. I contacted him and spoke with Leslie. She said they could match the price and they were awesome! They did a fantastic job on everything! They ended up fixing the ceiling to the point that you can barely tell there was a wall there unless someone points it out to you. The baseboard had lead paint so we ended up throwing it out but they were able to find baseboard that was almost identical and fit the style of the house! The painting job they did totally made the house look a million times better. They informed me that the previous guys had used the wrong type of paint in some of the rooms so they went and bought the correct kind. They even came back when I noticed a few things that my perfectionist self couldn't handle and fixed it without any issues or complaints. I highly recommend them and will use them when it comes time to paint again! read more

Instead of buying new doors, we took a chance and had them repainted in a contemporary white color, which AJ Maint had in stock and ready to go. I hired AJ PaintMasters Plus to paint the exterior of my Eichler home, and there are not enough superlatives to describe the outstanding results that Alex and his crew delivered. His employees were pleasant and professional throughout the process, and they took obvious pride in their work. Alex was often onsite, although his crews were were diligent with or without his presence. The time and effort they took on the preparation phase was particularly impressive, as my old house needed a lot of scraping, sanding, caulking, and dry rot remediation. They took special care to cover and tape off windows and ground covering for the main painting phase. I lived in San Rafael for 20 years and during that time I hired various companies to work on my house and garden. AJ PaintMasters is by far the best of all for the following reasons: 1 - Initial contact - They respond to emails and phone calls in a very prompt, clear and professional manner 2 - Estimate - The person that came to do the estimate is very professional and knowledgeable 3 - Quote - The quote was sent to me via email with a clear breakdown of what is included in the quote and what is excluded. This was important to me because a lot of contractors are not so specific in the initial quote and then you end up having to pay more or have the work be "partially" done 4 - Price - For the work that I just did in my house, I requested three quotes. AJ PaintMasters came to be in the middle of the three. The price was reasonable to me and compared to others 5 - Work - The actual work this people perform is really good. I hired AJ Paintmasters to paint the interior of our home after getting four other estimates. I was impressed with the way that Leslie handled my concerns and answered my questions regarding price, paint quality and color choice. I'm not fond of having people working in my home for extended periods of time so I wanted the job done quickly but also professionally. I shouldn't have worried because the crew was fast, respectful of my space and did a great job. I had them come back a couple of months later and paint the guest bedroom and bathroom and again the job was done perfectly. A short while after that a relative of mine, staying in that guest room, dented the corner of the wall with his suitcase. Alex came, assessed the situation and fixed it on the spot (along with two other places that I had hit with the vacuum) and didn't charge me.
