Overpriced food. Ended up being 40$ for two meals, a drink and a dessert with one meal having extra chicken(which means the regular 12$ meal is very small) The dessert, a flan, was also just horrible. Much too sweet and soggy. I've had good flan and this was not good flan. Small portions Not very flavorful It's street food but because it's in America it's "exotic" so it's priced as such. If you want some "exotic" food go to the nearby Indian restaurant. Better portions, lower priced, more flavorful. read more

This was a little gem of a find. Plus it was in an area that you would least expect to find such a unique and casual restaurant. I am not a vegetarian, however if you are, you're in luck as this is a real delightful find. Five star for the authenticity of the cuisine and service. Very friendly staff. In review of their menu, there was a nice variety and assortment of entrees. There was also a very nice and extensive vegetarian entrees and dishes too. The food is exceptional and quite authentic too. We're familiar with Peruvian cuisine and really enjoyed our meals. My husband had a beef dish that was served on a bed of French fries and vegetables. It was also accompanied with red beans and rice. A very nice dish. Interesting combo. of texture with beef infused with vegetables over fries. Out of curiosity, I tried a vegetarian dish. The infused flavors were amazing. The imitation meat that they make and incorporate in this dish tastes like a soft tender beef (the imitation beef was a bit small though), but no regrets. It was a great dining experience. Another dish was shrimp in a sauce. Very very nice too. Their flan was very creamy, one of the best....I have to say. Regarding appetizers, we also tried their mini empanadas, an order of fried yucca and tostones (fried green bananas) as appetizers They were each very good. Re: the assortment of 5 mini empanadas, we liked the chicken empanadas best. They also have this purple juice made with imported Peruvian berries and fruit juices. Very good too. Ask for a sample. This place is SO good. The food was absolutely amazing, and the waitress was extremely nice & warm & helpful & welcoming. Our waitress was ALSO patient & super friendly! We both ordered chicha morada drinks. We ordered empanadas for appetizer - cheesy chicken & three cheese and spinach. My boyfriend got el machu picchu sandwich. I ordered the lomo saltado. And, for dessert, we had the passionfruit cheesecake & coffee. Everything was truly SO delicious, fresh, and flavorful. I can't wait to go back & try more items from the menu! read more

We ordered three dishes, and two empanadas. The cashier didn't ring in our empanadas or our third order, even after the owner recommended those dishes to us. They gave us our food, but we were missing both empanadas and one dish. We called back and tried to get our food, but they ran out of empanadas, and the owner charged us full price for the third dish, even when we ordered THREE dishes right in front of her and the cashier. The owner did NOT own up to their mistake, nor did they apologize. No discount for the missing food we waited almost an hour for, despite them telling us they ran out of empanadas. Horrible customer service, that is NOT how you treat your guests. read more

We tried this restaurant for the vegan and vegetarian selections. Slim crowd on a Sunday for lunch so there was no wait. We tried 3 different dishes that I can't remember the names of but they were all good, flavorful and fresh. Great service- The owners were very warm and welcoming, the waitress brought out a free plate of fries for our hungry kids while we waited on food. We also ordered an extra plate of plantaines right before we received our check and we also received those for free. Delicious food- Each plate was delicious and very well presented. Their hot sauces are very original and taste so good. Simple Atmosphere- The restaraunt itself is tucked away in a small strip mall, and the inside is very simple a dozen booths and some table table tops, not very much decoration, and was utlimatley very quiet. Not complaining our kids were just out of control.... Not The Best Location- Its about 15 minutes away from our hotel but about 30 minutes from downtown Chattanooga. Just not where we wanted to be since Chattanooga is where everything seems to be happening. We just happen to love Peruvian food which is why we went out of our way to get to it. Aji is a wonderful, casual, very chill little Peruvian cafe in Ooltewah. We tried it because my mom, who is vegan, has a lot of choices on the menu as well. Their menu has a whole vegetarian section! My stepdad and I ordered the Andean corn salad (Ensalada de Choclo) and the ceviche to share, while my mom ordered the vegetarian Sabor de Aji (a sampling of three of Aji's vegetarian dishes). We also shared the mazamorra morada - Andean purple corn pudding, which was delicious (kind of like eating hot spiced jam?). We all enjoyed our meals, and we love finding places that have something for everyone! And the menu is broad enough that there are plenty of things all of us wanted to order next time! read more

I was quite impressed, and found the Peruvian food intriguing and delicious. This cuisine shares elements of its northern cousin, Mexican food, but other things make it quite distinct. It takes advantage of native Andean ingredients like potatoes, purple corn, quinoa, and several verities of peppers (aji) and puts them to good use. I had the Pilar salad to start. The sprouted lentils give a nice crunch, and I enjoyed the light house dressing with cilantro. Not feeling too hungry, I opted for the cold potato and avocado appetizer, a house specialty. This was followed up with a side dish of pinto beans. Both were delicious, though next time I'll ask for a cilantro garnish for the beans for an extra little kick. Dessert was a warm fruit-soup sort of thing made with purple corn and sprinkled with cinnamon. Yum! Drinks consisted of fresh mango juice (good) at the table and a drink I took home made with fruit juices and spices that again used purple corn to give sweetness and a deep, dark purple color to the beverage. It tastes kind of like Christmas spiced cider, but refreshingly cold. If this is Peruvian cuisine, I can't wait to book a flight to Lima! Decor is cute, with Peruvian pictures and artifacts. Atmosphere is casual and clean. FOH is friendly and helpful in choosing selections, though also does the busing, so this slows things down a tad. All in all a great little place. Holy cow. We gravitated to this place based on other good reviews and it did not disappoint. I highly recommend family style ordering as much food as you can fit in your face without getting sick. Three of us shared the tostones, veg tamales, spinach empanadas, veg fried rice, and pumpkin ring donuts for dessert. I loved their house made vegetarian meat because not only is it tasty but also it is non soy based. Also, there is a green sauce served with apps and main entrees that is to die for. Okay. This place used to have so much potential then something happened the owner changed. Lots of great improvement. Used to be a regular. Still enjoy the food. Quantity has become a bit less. Price has gone up. I had a party of 6 adults and 2 children. Didn't feel like the establishment justified the 20% tip but I didn't want to fuss. also a side substitution cost $2.50. Being from Atlanta, my (Peruvian) girlfriend and I stopped by on the way home to get a taste of Peru before heading back. We ordered the anticuchos (cow heart kabobs), yucca frita, quinoa, and sabor de Peru trio. Absolute heaven. The spicy aji dip for the yucca is incredible. Everything was freshly cooked to order. Sauces and seasonings were so very tasty. Second time to eat at Aji Peruvian Restaurant but certainly won't be our last. Reasonable. Friendly staff. Open lunch and dinner Sunday through Friday afternoon, closed on Saturday. Also will prepare takeout by calling in an order. 3-22-2019 Lunch was just as good today as it was the last time we ate at Aji Peruvian.
