    Manduguk ( ) dumpling soup
    Michelle C.

I came inspired by a challenge my dear friend and I created to take ourselves out to eat by ourselves. The ambiance was homely and the pricing of the menu is quite nice. Compared to the number of years this restaurant has been open I was quite surprised by how worn down the chairs and tables were - which I think emphasizes the amount of people that come here since I do remember them being a better quality only a few months ago (before I began reviewing in Yelp). I've eaten their bibimbap before and the manduguk this time both on cold evenings, and they are incredibly warm and filling. The manduguk could have been less greasy on the soup, but I liked the Mandus they've used - they're chewy and light. I like the variety of vegetables they've added: bell peppers, carrots, onions, etc. I wish there were more vegetables as a veggie girl. I appreciated how the egg was made. At hind sight, the soup looks a bit disheveled - they don't put much into appearance of the food but it was pretty good for what it's worth. Compared to the homemade manduguk I eat, I feel this is slightly more fast food oriented given the larger, majority immediate college population they have to serve. But, I'm excited to come back to try the other dishes.

First the good: it was a good lunch Plenty of food, packed up nicely, and the rice was very good. Loved the aloe juice. Lots of space! And I got the one power outlet. And no one said a word when I took an hourlong meeting while plugged in. The bad: lunch special wasn't special. Restaurant was worn. And the bathroom. was, well, left a photo. Still, the veggies were great.

I picked up food from Ajumma for a quick dinner. I ordered the Squid Bulgogi and my friend ordered the Honey Seoul Chicken. Both of which exceeded my expectations. We ordered our food to go, and the service was fast. We waited less than 10 minutes after ordering! The Honey Seoul Chicken was my favorite but slightly different than expected. It has small pieces of breaded chicken that were fried and then tossed in a sweet sauce.

This place looks like a go to spot to get quick Korean food. I got the dumpling soup and my fiancé got the beef bulgogi and rice. He enjoyed his meal, but my meal was "okay." The soup had a lot of flavor, a bit salty. My main complaint is that I could tell the dumplings were store bought, not homemade. Lots of seating and the inside was clean. Quiet and chill atmosphere (here on a Sunday evening). I'll return to try their other items since the beef bulgogi was good and update my review accordingly.

I stopped by here for dinner on a Thursday night. Place was pretty empty, but I've been curious about this place for a while. I ordered the spicy chicken bulgogi, and to say the least, I wasn't impressed. Because I ordered it spicy, there was definitely some added taste in there, but somehow there was no sense of flavor in it. I could taste the spice in my mouth, but it felt so repetitive/bland it felt like a chore to eat the entire order. The prices were very cheap and affordable at least, and the inside of the place looked clean and calming. The service was simply alright, though I perceived the cashier seemed very annoyed to take my order. Overall, I rate the place as being pretty average, and I likely wouldn't go there again just because of how much farther it is from me compared to other, better restaurants.

Beef Bulgogi extra spicy with a fried egg + sriracha

Ajumma was recently temporarily shut down by the health department, which lowers my review from 3 to 2 stars. Ajumma is your best bet for counter service quick Asian-American food near JHU. It's overpriced, but scratches the itch for beef bulgogi. Asking for a fried egg on top of your food is definitely the move here. The service has always been prompt and friendly, and food comes out quickly.

Bibimpap catering package. Fresh and secure.

They provided catering size trays of food for a birthday party. Bibimpap, noodles and mandu. The kids and adults loved it. They packaged it so that vegans, vegetarians and carnivores could serve themselves for a healthy and filling party meal. Thanks, Ajumma!

Fresh ingredients and meals made to order in front of you. Veggies, chow mein and sriracha sauce make for a tasty meal. Close to the Hopkins campus and under $10 for most meals. I am not sure why I'm giving 5 stars but I can't think of a single complaint. $10 credit card minimum

More a 3.5 Don't think of this like a sit down korean restaurant like Nakwon, san soo kab san, jong gak, or a krn bbq place. This is a semi fast food version of a korean/japance style restaurant. You don't get sides or anything like that. I'm pretty sure their owners are the same as the previous CC carry out, and the food is similar. I know because it tasted pretty much the same this time around. The reason I don't like it that much is because they don't marinade most of the meat. When I watch them cook the chicken bulgogi, sukiyaki, beef sukiyaki, etc...essentially they bring out a fresh piece of chicken or beef that's not marinaded and then cook it in onions, veggies and add seasoning on the grill. The grill probably has a good amount of flavor on its own throughout the day. I'm not saying this isn't bad, but krn bulgogi that my mom makes and I know how to make..or most krn meats for that matter are marinaded to allow those flavors to penetrate the meat. The food is still fairly flavorful because it cooks in the oil, spices, onions, veggies but it's missing that edge that makes this place good for me. Most of the food is fairly oily. They give you lots of rice, so you'll get full. Most of the dishes come with veggies (not a whole lot for some ..sometimes just onions for bulgogi) but you will get full. IT doesn't get much better with each bite. but it's definitely decent food. I haven't had the krn soups (dumpling rice cake soup, soon doo boo(spicy tofu soup)) but i'm sure those would be good ...the main cash register lady (owner I believe) is very nice. She has formed some good customer relations with many students so that's nice to see. I have a feeling their soups would be good because those are really hard to mess up. I'd go back to try more of those things. Any of the dishes with meat, though...just don't hit the spot. They also don't give you that much meat especially in the sukiyakis. They'll break down the meat as they cook it, so you don't end up with good chunks usually. Probably about 3oz of meat per serving. I believe it's overpriced too. I wish they had like a 5 or 6$ standard meal with meat, half of the rice they give and veggies. If they lowered the price like $1.50 on everything i'd be a happy camper. With the prices they have (8.50-11 ish) i'd rather go to a san soo kab san or jong gak.

Pork bulgogi without chili pepper flakes
    Kaitlin J.

After living near Ajumma for almost four years, I finally decided to try it with some friends who are great enthusiasts. I ordered the Pork Bulgogi with no spicy red chili pepper add on, which normally comes with it, and was disappointed initially as they still put the spicy flakes on. They were gracious and remade my order, but even after receiving my correct order I couldn't say I was very impressed by the food. Although I wasn't expecting this to be the best meal I'd ever had, I was slightly disappointed with the food as it was scarce in pork and overpowered by rice. I probably will not return here but glad I tried it.

A true hidden gem in Baltimore! A welcome change from family-style sit-down overpriced Korean restaurants, Ajumma delivers on good taste and generous portions. As far as casual dining Korean goes, there is no better place in Baltimore as far as I'm concerned. The pork bulgogi was perfectly cooked, but I have noticed that the spice level varies from "meh" to "I'm about to drink a gallon of milk". The bibimbab was refreshing as it was tasty. The noodles were okay, kind of reminiscent of a lo mein dish. Entrees in the $8-9 range, with generous portions (albeit of rice). A great place to introduce your friends to bread-and-butter Korean cuisine, esp. bulgogi. As mentioned before, I can confirm their excellent service to both Korean and non-Koreans. The original ajumma (which means auntie or middle-aged woman) is quite cheerful as she is attentive. I would definitely come here before a night of partying (then head to Nak Won at the end of the night for kalbi)

Beef or tofu? I was assured this was vegetarian.

I had been here once before, before moving to the area, and thought it was great then. This time? Extraordinary. I came in about an hour before closing, and anyone who eats out knows food can sometimes feel different that close to closing time. Not here. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and just as good as if I had walked in at peak dinner time. On top of that, I had an issue with my online order/payment. It looked like the charge was processing through my account, but they had no record of the order. Instead of making me feel like a problem, the person helping me was patient, kind, and genuinely tried to figure it out. I felt treated like a hungry customer who needed help not like someone trying to get over. The food looked good, tasted amazing, and the people were helpful, welcoming, and kind even near closing. The space was welcoming as well. The corner store ..... come on in. Come on in. Come on in. Top-notch all around

Now for the Maryland softie, my first bite was heavenly (full of the crab-cake and remoulade), but as I kept eating it, I realized I would've just preferred it with just crab cake, not the soft shell too. Was it worth the hype? kind of. It's pricey so maybe one and done for me. Now the crab Rangoon egg roll, that was a miss for me. It is cheesy and filled with imitation crab, but too small for me at the price point. And I didn't find it super tasty personally. My sister who is also a yelp elite had a totally different take and loves it, so maybe it's subjective. I did have it 4 hours (put it in air-fryer) after I got it so maybe eating it super fresh is the difference. Space is limited so better for carryout, and the person taking my order was friendly. It'll probably take 20-30 mins for your order to come out, depending on how many people there are and pickup orders they have to complete. Overall, this place is a Maryland staple at this point and anyone who visits MD should 100% try and check out their famous fried chicken, whether as a bao sandwich or a rice bowl.

I tried to get the host's attention to ask a few questions about quantities and how certain items were prepared, but he seemed distracted by other activity in the restaurant. While waiting, about 10 minutes, I noticed the decor was bright, the sushi chefs were neat and clean, and the preparation area looked well maintained. In the end, I took a guess on my order (California roll and lump crab meat) , and once I got home, I realized I made a solid choice. The sushi tasted very fresh (although the crab didn't taste like lump - it was still tasty) which definitely stood out and made the experience better. I ordered enough for lunch that day and still had leftovers for the next. Will I go back? I'm not sure, but I might try again on a different day and dine in.
