Had to hit this spot on a recent trip to the Spit, and have to admit the halibut was some of the best fish & chips I've had anywhere. The Panko crust was nice and crispy, without being oily, and the fish still moist and tender. The crust on the halibut also had a bit of herbs in it which kicked it up a notch. I also tried the rockfish combo, which was still above average, but if I had to do again, I'd go all halibut. The fries were pretty good, but honestly nothing to fly up here to visit for. Tartar sauce was also solid, but felt it could have used more tang (pickles). It is a bit of a bummer they're cash only, but it was worth hitting the ATM to be able to try this place. I'd definitely go back, or have it on my list to hit anytime I'm on the Spit. read more

COVID update- they are open! Cash ONLY - plan on AT LEAST 20 bucks. Delicious fish. A very light panko style batter with good, but not overpowering seasoning. The fish is fresh and hot. Well seasoned fries. Normal style fries. Other than the seasoning, nothing out of the ordinary. Two tartar sauces. One of them was hiding under a fish fillet. One tartar sauce wasn't really enough if you're dipping fries and fish. Lemon wedges. Small, but plenty of juice to get your fish dusted. Cole slaw. Normal coleslaw. Nothing weird or special. I'm not a fan of frying perfectly good fish, but this place came recommended to my group by our charter. We took one of our fresh catches here and they fried it up, which is the only option. The batter for the halibut and cod tasted the same even though they looked different. One had some kind of herb, maybe parsley. The side of fries or onion rings is a generous portion, but the cole slaw is served in 2 oz plastic containers. We paid under $30 for them to fry about 3 lbs of fish, 2 orders of fries and 2 orders of cole slaw with a few drinks. Reasonably priced and the wait time was about 20 minutes. Omg. Their fish and fries are perfect! We love how well seasoned and crispy the batter is. The halibut is good and so is the cod. We will definitely be back. We had the fish chowder also and that was so-so. It was pretty bland. I'd skip that and just get extra fish. We were really happy with everything else we tried so they still get 5 stars read more

Excuse me? I've never tasted fish and chips like THIS!!! This fish was so flavorful and the breading was crispy and ON POINT. The man who helped was very friendly and had a very nice smile. Halibut serving of 5 pieces. These pieces were HUGE. The fish was NOT over cooked and flavorful. Halibut isn't a very flavorful fish, but they brought the delicious flavor of the fish out. The spinach dip was small but let me tell you, it was worth it. The flavors were robust and had a creamy finish. The Caesar salad was balanced. There was dressing and cheese with every bite. The combo of cod and halibut, I promise you time stopped when I took a bite. You HAVE to try it. I'm from California so this blew any fish and chips I've ever had in California. read more

Very disappointed in AK Fish Fryers. Don't get me wrong the fish and chips are excellent but their hours are all over the place. We were staying in Homer for three days and noticed they had a posted sign stating they were going to be open on Thursday. Low and behold when we come back Thursday the place is closed and the sign is gone. Their online hours said they were open and their phone number had no additional information. 4th of July lunch at AK Fish Fryers. Five Stars!! We searched the entire Spit looking for AK Fish Fryers. We even solicited directions from a local shop and were directed to it. A pleasant small operation with a Food Truck appearance was eventually found. The menus was simple and straightforward enough. They cook FISH!! We enjoyed a delicious cup of Halibut Chowder while we waited for a five piece Halibut with fries to be prepared. It was a delightful way to endure the small amount of time necessary to prepare five pieces of perfectly cooked fish. The Halibut was golden brown and had the perfect crunch. The French fries were just right, golden and crisp with light salt. This was all attractively plated with Tartar Sauce and Cole Slaw. We will eat there again. Friendly people, great food. read more

I'm so confused by all the rave reviews of this place. I was not happy with my meal. The super crispy breading was thicker than the, very thinly sliced, dried out halibut that it encased. The fries seemed like they had been prepared in advance and were soggy and warm, not hot. I tried going to get fish and chips here numerous times, but the place was closed when they were advertised to be open. I kept on trying because of the excellent reviews written. Sorry to say, it was not was I expected it to be. $30 not well spent. read more

Cute little walk up with just a bench for sitting. There were some picnic tables in front of some shops on the deck next door. Menu is small, focused. It's all about the cod and halibut. The chowder of the day was cod. I had a large, which was served in I'm guessing a 12 ounce styrofoam cup. Some nice pieces of cod. The broth was creamy, not too thick or thin. The flavor was o.k. The potatoes were mushy, I like mine firmer. The ratio of broth to seafood/veggies was poor, not nearly enough of the latter. The five piece halibut and chips, now that's another story. Perfectly coated and seasoned, not too heavy. Generous pieces of moist, fresh halibut. Creamy coleslaw. Firm, perfectly cooked thin cut fries. Took about 10 minutes to prepare. If not for the chowder, this gets a 5 for sure. read more

Great fried halibut and chips with homemade sauce. We also bought a fried crepe-like dessert (forgot the name). The owners have a great breading for the fish, and the fries were just right. Almost gave it 4 stars because I thought the price was a little high ($29 for six pieces), but the flavor and quality was solid. Brought some of our just caught halibut to them and 20 minutes later had generous portions of perfectly fried fish with fries and tartar sauce. Everything was good, but the fish batter was the best we have tasted on any continent! It's a breaded batter, thick and crunchy, with parsley and other seasonings which enhances the fish. We made the mistake of bringing them too much, so we had literally 3 meals of leftovers, and even cold on day 2 it was incredibly good! Somehow there was never any grease, never soggy, this is true craft and should make everyone's list when visiting Homer, buy enough for leftovers, it's that good! read more

The fried Halibut was amazing! We were there in July of 2021 and they still had the "COVID window" which was the worst part of the experience since covid is over, but to each their own. Highly recommend picking up food here and taking it to eat with a beer at the Salty Dog. read more

Life changing experience. I probably will never have halibut chips anywhere els since the standard just got set to my palate. Absolute heavenly halibut! I grew up here in AK and I have never had halibut cooked so perfect. Fresh and crispy breading and not greasy. Definitely a must eat when in beautiful Homer, Alaska.
