Wow. What an experience. We sort of went overboard when visiting Roka Akor but it was a fabulous experience. We were a party of six with two birthdays. This was supposed to be special, and it was. We were seated right away in a nice spot. The server immediately brought our menus and we were served water and asked about drinks. Rola Akor serves either for sharing, or will deliver an individual entree. They are also outstanding at dealing with food allergies! They really take it seriously. We ordered a lot - we started with three maki rolls - Crispy Prawn Unagi, Salmon Avocado, and Kani Sake - all were fantastic. For our shared entrees we had Prime Skirt Steak (8oz), Sweet Garlic Soy, Teriyaki Chicken Breast, Shiitake Mushrooms, Yuzu Miso Marinated Black Cod, Pickled Red Onion, and Chilean Seabass, Ginger Jalapeno Sauce, Fresh Shaved Vegetable Salad. We also ordered vegetables - Broccolini, Ginger Shallot Dressing, Sweet Corn, Soy, Butter, and Crispy Brussels Sprouts, Wafu, Mustard, Bonito Flakes. They also brought out ice cream for our birthday girls. The food was truly outstanding, although pricey. The service was amazing as was the ambiance. I highly recommend Roka Akor!

I discovered this restaurant when I visited Scottsdale a decade ago and was pleasantly surprised to try this location. It didn't disappoint! Fresh food, attentive servers, and conveniently located.

Overall ok experience. As a first timer, asked for recommendations. Ordered everything the staff recommended. We were seated next to a couple at the edge but there were plenty of open tables. Should have asked for different seating but didn't want to be that person during the holidays. The best food item was New York strip- very tender and truffle aioli sauce was perfectly pairing. Chicken teriyaki was ok. Was tender but bit gamey. Crispy Rice, Spicy Tuna, Shiso Tempura Leaf was very crispy and mild flavor so not overpowering but more of texture appeal than flavor. Grilled vegetable roll was flavorful and filling.

It was my first time dining at Roka Akor and most likely my last. Our bill came out to about $300 with tip and all. We waited a very long time to get our orders taken. We didn't even have our drink orders taken promptly after we got sat. Honestly we felt very neglected as a group and not serviced. For the prices of their menu you'd expect service to be good. Review of the food: Mushroom sticky rice- bland but was an interesting concept Crispy squid/octopus- good but like typical calamari Kaarage- good and juicy Blackened cod- good but really expensive for what it is Tuna crunchy roll - it was okay very, typical tuna roll Soft shell crab roll - typical sushi roll nothing surprising Crispy eggplant- pretty good sauce can be spicier Chicken teriyaki - sauce is a bit lacking and was the only flavor for the dish Pork belly - it was good but extremely greasy so the tea helps Ube dessert item - this item was good. Overall I would say the service really reduced the experience we could have had. For the price the food was not up to par.

Having dinner for my best friends birthday! Food was amazing, always great taste, temperature was good with all the food being served as well as the portions. Amazing fast service.

Sushi is delicious here! Staff is great. It is a bit pricey, but food is great. There is nice interior, but quite dark.

Had a great Valentine's Day menu here at Roka! It's my first time visiting this location but I frequent the Oakbrook location a lot. The were very accommodating due to the water issue on actual Valentine's Day and so glad we were able to go and experience this! The first and second course were INCREDIBLE -- yellowtail jalapeño with a delicious sauce, the beef and the amazing truffle sauce, just so flavorful. The hamachi Serrano roll is the best on the menu in my opinion and they portion and coursed out very well. Overall great experience and will definitely return for all the sushi and sashimi for sureeeee.

I've been here a couple times, came tonight to celebrate with girlfriends (table of 4) we got to the restaurant 10 min before when I thought our reservation was, at 5:30, I was mistaken; it was at 5 (that's on me) they still sat us. Food was great, we shared a bunch of items, ordered apps and wanted to wait until we were done with them to order our mains. Our server came over and informed us "my manger told me you'll need to order because you're sitting too long". Um, excuse me? I get you want to turn the table, but basically telling me to leave? So we ordered our mains, the busboy/person came by right away and cleared all our plates- it all felt really rushed. Mind you, the restaurant was not full. When we left, how long were we there that we were holding up previous reservations? 1 hour. We dined for 1 hour. Ridiculous to tell us to rush out. We weren't a loud group, just 4 woman out to dinner with 1 cocktail each. I probably won't return.

The food was so delicious! We were blown away by the service, especially Steve! A bottle of wine that we chose wasn't on the menu so he replaced it with an even nicer bottle at the same price. I was part of a group and we ordered half the menu and loved all of it! The Wagyu, Cod, Toro and dynamite roll were big hits.

I love dining here when we are in town. The location is great. The restaurant is clean. The service is amazing. We got to meet Chef Boyd. What a talented chef. He's so nice and friendly. We had the Omakase. Our dinner was amazing. We were so full. The portion is very generous. Highly recommend.

Disclaimer I forgot to take a picture of what I ordered, which was the chicken teriyaki bento box I forgot because I was so hungry and everything was so freshly cooked and hot that I just dived right in. That bento box had edamame a spring roll gyoza and the rice covered in furikake plus the chicken teriyaki and seaweed salad and more. I also ordered the lychee jasmine tea, which was cold and absolutely delicious and it was not a cup of diabetes, thank goodness We also ordered a Tonkatsu bowl, which was very generous, freshly cooked and super tasty. Both orders came with a miso soup, which was also piping hot and tasty. The set up is definitely a little bit more fast food because you can order to counter and then get your food on a tray and sit down or you can order it from a kiosk as well. They also do takeout orders. The best part about this place besides the food and the ambience are just so cute and modern and clean is the staff and the manager. People really do make the difference and people really do enhance an experience and an overall lasting and first impression. I would absolutely come back here. It is super conveniently located. Great pricing with very generous portions. The owners are Japanese and everything here is super authentic.

Good wide menu with items that you don't find at your mainstream japanese restaurant. More like old school Chicago Japanese. (Thinking a blend here of old Ginza and maybe some parts Sunshine.) Maybe only with the departure of those favorites we appreciate more what has stayed on. Appetizer selection is long enough to just get small plates to share. Notables: - ebi snijo (homemade shrimp ball) - hamachi jaw (if you haven't had it) - hirame no cha soba age (fried green tea noodles and whitefish rolled with seaweed) - evokes the old Ginza restaurant for me - octopus sunomono Even after three recent visits without repeat apps, there are still more we haven't had elsewhere to try. Part of the reason for that is - we get entrees too. We've been happy with: - chirashi (curious how the sashimi D differs) - Salmon Bento (D) - so many different things fun to share! - Kuni's Special - gomaee and mixed seafood sunomono, then our choice of sashimi followed by saba - nabe yaki udon is reasonable here at $13 with two tempura shrimp Know there's lots of reviews here, but as long as there is room on weekends for us we're happy to share!

Within minutes, the restaurant was completely packed, both indoors and outdoors.  There were guests waiting to be seated throughout the evening. If you visit on a busy night like this one, be prepared to allow longer time for the food to come to the table. I could see that some of the dishes were ready on the kitchen counter waiting to be delivered to the tables, but they seemed to be a bit short-handed, especially for the tables in the patio. Our server took our order at 7:10 pm, and it took 24 minutes for our food to come out at 7:36 pm. It was fine as we were not in a hurry. The décor of Blowfish is modern and comfortable.  Our server, Bu, was friendly, cheerful, efficient, and professional.  Both my husband and I ordered a Hot Green Tea ($2 x 2).  I ordered a Sakura Roll ($17), with crab mix, jalapeño, avocado, seared white tuna, white truffle oil, wasabi mayo, sweet soy sauce, and scallions.  It was beautifully presented and packed with flavors.  There were 9 pieces and I shared 1 with my husband who also liked it.  I ate some of the pieces whole and dissembled some of them, each of the ingredients was fresh and tasty, together they created complex flavors that didn't need any other sauces or wasabi.  It's a great choice that I'd happily order it again. My husband had a Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen ($18), with silky tonkotsu broth, pork chashu, kikurage, nitamago, scallions, corn, spinach, roasted seaweed, sesame, and black garlic oil.  The bowl of ramen looked attractive.  I asked him how it tasted; he said that it was one of the best bowls of ramen he's ever had!  Wow! That's high praise coming from him, I don't think I've ever heard him saying that before!  He said that there's a nice kick even though it was not noted on the menu.  I am intrigued and will definitely try it in our future visits. He also ordered 2 pieces of sashimi -- Hamachi/yellowtail ($8).  There seemed to be a misunderstanding, and two orders of sashimi were entered instead of one.  Since the sashimi portions were fairly small, he didn't bring it up to the server, he just happily ate them and paid the bill for 2 orders ($8 x 2).  The sashimi was fresh. We also ordered a Dragon Roll ($16) to go, that had shrimp tempura, BBQ eel, avocado, and cucumber.  It was also very good. Overall, we were delighted to discover Blowfish. Between the welcoming service, fresh, flavorful food, and comfortable atmosphere, it was an excellent dining experience. We'll definitely be back.

The wait staff gave us time to just browse the menu without coming to us too quickly which really appreciated. We ordered the following: 1. Miso soup (I gave 4.5 stars) I really enjoyed it for the flavor. 2. Cucumber salad (4 stars) they give a large portion, marinated and thinly sliced cucumber with a sesame sprinkle on top. My partner said it would be a 5 if it was marinated for less time because it seemed a little floppy. Either too thinly sliced or marinated too long. He was looking for a crunch. 3. Tuna lobster sushi roll. (4 stars) I didn't expect it to be ground tuna on top, I was envisioning just a mix of lobster and tuna, this was pretty ground and then spicy as well. It was still good, I didn't expect the spice I guess because it was in the mayo? The wait staff explained it. I do think the menu should reflect spicy dishes with some sort of symbol to help. Fresh ingredients though. I'll definitely finish this. 4. Sunrise salmon poke bowl. (4 stars) my partner wanted to rate this 4.5 but a pretty significant fish bone went into his mouth and poked him. Otherwise, flavor was good, fresh fish, he loves the colors and said it's "beautiful." 5. Gyoza. (3 stars) This was kind of soggy or mid. The outside was flavorful, the beef inside was bland. Thanks for having us!

The shallot rice with vegetables had no vegetables at all and tasted as if it was premade and warmed up again in the microwave. The shallot rice with beef was the same and contained tiny bits of burned beef. The sushi was not fresh and the crispy spring rolls were akin to dog treat sticks. The food is expensive and some of the worse food I've ever had. While I appreciate the business owners detailed response, there are contradictions. When ordering the shallot fried rice from the restaurants website on July 2, vegetables were included as an option. Today vegetables have been replaced with herbs. Nevertheless we chose the available vegetable option therefore vegetables were requested. The restaurant received our vegetables request as indicated on the pictured receipt and packaging. We received herbs and rice but no vegetables. We did not order through a third party delivery service. We placed the order through the restaurant website and I arrived early to pick up the food. I hope that the owner is able to receive my feedback constructively and take accountability for the issues my family encountered with the restaurant.
