    miso soup and salad
    Sandra Y.

Went here last night for dinner with 3 other people. We decided to get the sashimi course meal. First the miso soup came out with the salad. Then agedashi tofu (a cube of deep fried soft tofu in soy sauce). Tempura fried shrimp and veggies. Edamame. Sashimi platter (with fresh salmon, tuna, flounder, etc). Spicy tuna hand rolls. Raw oysters on the half shell with chogochujang (gochujang with vinegar and sugar). Baked mussels with spicy mayo. Maki (spicy tuna maki, dragon roll, and some weird fried sweet potato one that was still raw). Perfectly fried whole fish with spicy sauce (my favorite of the night!). This rice porridge thing, kinda (which is the bottom of the rice pot if you leave it cooking a little longer, it gets hard, almost like a cracker and was cooked with water) with shrimp sauce. Maewoontang (spicy fish stew made from the bones of the flounder from the sashimi platter). And ended with a scoop of ice cream. Over all, the food was good. I just didn't like that they put a weird tempura fried sweet potato in one of the maki. It was basically raw and I was not expecting sweet potato. Also, the menu said one of the courses was soft shell crab, but that never came out so we asked about it and the server said they don't have it. When we asked what it was replaced with, he had no idea. I think they should have clarified that when we ordered it because we were looking forward to that. Btw, you get free refills on miso soup after the first course. There are tanks in the middle of the restaurant. With each order, the chef takes the fish out of the tanks to prepare them. Most likely for part of the sashimi platter and the whole fried fish. We couldn't even finish the maewoontang at the end of the meal. I tried it and it was really watery and bland and we were really full anyway. This is a nice place to go with an group of people and just hang out and eat for a few hours. Maybe have a couple bottles of soju or sake too.

I'm falling in love with these !!!!

I really love with this food. Beef don, Agedashi Tofu and seaweed salad. Prices are cheap !!! I used to get sushi foods and today it was my first time I have kitchen foods. Its very tasty :) It tasted just like the family food I ate in Japan last year. To compare this store, it is like a small Japanese restaurant that only local people in Japan enjoy eating. The atmosphere is quiet, the food is qualitative and quantitative. It is very peaceful place for couples and singles to avoid from noisy resturant. The reason I wrote this review is some reviewers critizied this resturant so I coulnd't ingore that evry customer has different experiences I understand that. But I had nice times with this resturant. So I'm writing for those who might hesitate to go on a bad review.

Living 5 minutes from the restaurant this has become our families staple for sushi. When entering you are greeted by the staff in a traditional Japanese greeting. The wait staff is eager to seat you and take your drink orders immediately. They have private tables for private parties and can accomodate up to 30 guests on a table in the main dining area. Their bar seats up to 8 people and the chefs are always friendly. The best part about Sushi 21 is the quality food and the low prices. They have take out and even have nice presentation on the take out. i highly recommend this for all sushi eaters!

    The Oysters!!

The OYSTERS are to die for. Theyre bigger than the average $3/piece at fancy restaurants. My husband and I go here 2x a month and love it everytime. Its best to order ahead bcus it takes time to prepare the oysters. The red sauce is what makes it so delicious so ask for extra sauce n lime.

I love when the sides keep coming and actually taste fresh, and these definitely did. The grill experience was the highlight. Watching the marinated beef sizzle over the charcoal while it caramelized and crisped at the edges? Elite. The meat was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor -- especially dipped into the sesame oil sauce or that savory soy-based sauce with scallions. Every bite wrapped in lettuce with garlic and sauce was chef's kiss. And the yukhoe (beef tartare) was beautifully presented -- layered with avocado, topped with a glossy egg yolk and garlic slices. It was fresh, rich, and buttery with just the right amount of seasoning. Mixing it all together made it creamy and flavorful without being overpowering. Overall, Jin Soo delivers on quality meat, great sides, and that interactive KBBQ vibe that makes the meal feel like an experience. Definitely a spot worth coming back to when you're craving good Korean BBQ in Chicago

The redecorating and ambience was modern and sleek, with fully operational and clean water features. Grills were gas-operated, one grills there own meat items here. I really liked the natural-stone mini-subway style tiles on the walls. Like a lot of Korean places I have seen, the seats had minimal padding. I think this would be a great place for a date if you're in the area, a prize in an unassuming strip mall anchored by an auto parts store. Food was great, they happily and generously provided more banchan and also gave us complimentary bowls of soy paste soup that was practically jumping out of the bowl. As civilised as I tried to be, using my chopsticks and the cooking tongs correctly, I still felt like I completely stuffed my face like at a trough '^_^ it was all so good. Maybe to accommodate the neighborhood, the banchan was not nearly as spicy as we expected, so that might be great for someone trying Korean for the first time. Some might balk at the prices of some items, such as $24.99 for 1/2lb of raw meat, but we had a very enjoyable time and hope to come again.

Fun times all around- great drinks and singing karaoke!!…read moreEasy to order drink menu but wish there were some more options. We didn't try any food since we came from a late dinner but I could see how it would add to the ambience. Dropped a star due to confusion/miscommunication with staff when we were directed to our room. We were a group of 10 that booked a small room but were seated in the large room. Since we were celebrating a birthday, we didn't think anything of it. When we went to pay, we realized that it was not a complimentary upgrade and were charged for the large room ($20 more per hr). The issue was able to be resolved but at the end of the day, this was an easy issue to prevent from the get-go.

The place is decorated well with k pop music videos playing on tvs throughout. Because it just opened, we were one of the few groups yet service was still pretty slow (we kept looking for a button to call the waiter as many korean restaurants have). We ordered the following - prices were a bit high overall: - kimchi fried rice: the cheese made this nice and savory and this was the best bang for your buck because of the portion - galbi: pretty tasty but small pieces - chicken feet stew: this came out cold so we had to send it back- they had forgotten to bring out the portable burner that comes with the dish. Otherwise this was very spicy (which I liked) and a big portion - bossam: my favorite dish. Lots of sides that came with the pork belly, which was great because none of the other dishes came with banchan or kimchi. Rice is usually an extra cost, but the server gave it to us complementary during this visit. I'm glad I tried a lot of dishes and had tasty Korean bar food! I'd recommend giving it a try.

I recently stopped by with my boyfriend while passing through the area, and Korean soup hits differently when it's freaking cold outside. I ordered the "mix" soup (seollungtang with meat and tendon), and it came out boiling just the way it should be. The bowl includes thin flour noodles, tender meat and tendon, and is topped with green onions. It also comes out with kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi), regular kimchi, a dipping sauce for the meat, and salt to season the soup to your liking. All of that plus a Diet Coke came out to $33.99 for both of us. In this economy? That's a solid deal. The lady and the man working behind the counter are always sweet, which is a plus. The food was comforting and much needed. I'm so thankful this place still exists and is standing strong even after Assi is gone. You order and wait and then your order appears from behind the curtain. I don't know all about Korean cuisine, but the goat soup does have great flavor. It doesn't seem to have dumb'ed down just to appease the locals (ha ha). I've been here twice and the little side dishes appear to rotate slightly so they weren't the same both times (I confess I ordered the goat soup both times). I see a lot of past reviews mention the oxtail. I wish I could get some of that. There is bulgogi and rice on the menu too. The spicy pork bulgogi was plentiful, but it wasn't as spicy as the soup. I promise I'll try a different soup next time. Maybe.
