I got the Mac nut latte and it was okay. 3.5 stars honestly. I really liked that they had a drive thru option but their oatmilk overpowered my drink and I felt like that's all I can taste. I used to love going here... Staff is friendly, but unfortunately one of our drinks was made incorrectly...We were headed to the hospital so couldn't go back to get it fixed. I paid extra for soy milk for my sister's drink, but pretty sure her drink had regular milk. She's lactose intolerant so she felt it afterwards...iykyk lol Also, on the menu, the Caffe Mocha says that it comes with chocolate or white chocolate, but I was charged extra for white chocolate. After a 5 hour flight, we needed some good coffee! We our stop to Tin Roof, took our food and got a latte at Akamai & ate in the parking lot of Home Depot as we watched chickens cross the roads. Our coffee was soo good. Can taste the good roast on the espresso. I got the R2H latte, hot. I asked for light sweet and can still taste hints of macadamia and chocolate, For two drinks we paid about 13$, which is to be expected nowadays. Wanted to try their Maui drip coffee but what a downer that their machine was down and there was no other option except their regular espresso drinks on menu which was unfortunate. Tried their Americano - initial sip tasted bitter but the coffee had a smooth finish which was a delight. The longer I drank the coffee, it grew on me. What would have been an unfortunate rating changed throughout the day, and that's why it's important not to rate immediately but to allow you whole tasting and experience to sit for a bit. Visit this Kahului location if you're on the go or heading to the airport since it is a convenient mobile drive up while the 2 on the Southside where I live are dine in. My employer introduced me to them years ago because he used to treat my coworker and I to a Hawaiian Honeybee! It has espresso, coconut, vanilla and honey. One of their popular drinks but they always have a seasonal menu if you want to try! I'm a Chai fan and their homemade blend is one of my top favorites on Maui. I always add either Coconut Milk or Almond milk and enjoy it hot and cold. The only thing that keeps me from buying all the time is the price because it can get expensive. I always have to get substitute milk so my drink ends up being $7-9. The quality is definitely worth it. I wish there was Kamaaina discount offered or maybe a stamp card, then I'd probably come more often. If you want delicious food, I'd recommend their Akamai Wailea Village location. I treat myself sometimes when I got the funds. Their tomato bisque, egg toast and avocado toast are my favorite! The homemade banana bread with Chocolate chip is delish too! read more

We were looking for a coffee spot after the airport and our driver had told us this was a good spot. It is a drive thru, in a small kiosk, look for the Home Depot. I would suggest looking up the menu beforehand since the menu is pretty small and you can only really see it when you're at the ordering window. There wasn't a line when we arrived but we definitely felt rush trying to order. The menu is small but they do have a list of specialty drinks available. read so many good reviews and was excited about trying it out but was very disappointed. The taste of the coffee (R2H) was watery and burnt tasting and very bitter, the flavor of the macadamia nut was not very rich and it tasted just like bitter coffee and milk. The matcha also was so light in color and did not have much matcha taste at all. The drive through was nice but the area around it smelled really bad like trash that had been sitting out for a while. The service was also lacking. We gave $15 cash for two drinks and the barista did not give us any change... we were planning to give tip anyways but were surprised at the fact that she didn't even ask if we wanted change and felt entitled to take it when we hadn't told her it was her tip. read more

I understand why this is a signature drink because it is on point The 2nd drink was a cold brew. I'm a fan of cold brews and thought I would customize it by adding white chocolate and raspberry. Bad idea! Modifying this order made the drink watery and bitter. Maybe I should have been specific as to how much syrup to add. Not a fan of coffee here. My husband ordered the lavender latte hot and I order the melrose. Their was not a hint of lavender in my husbands drink. He questioned if it was even sweetened. My drink was supposed to have rose & white chocolate flavors. I tasted no hint of rose and to be honest both coffees had a sour taste. I'm not sure if this is a Hawaiian thing cause we had the same sour taste at another spot but that isn't good coffee. The service was great and I appreciate the drive thru concept for the truck. I was in the area to pick up my parents at the airport. I wanted to get some coffee beforehand and found Akamai via Yelp. Akamai is located in the Home Depot parking lot on the side. It's a drive up coffee shop so pretty convenient that I can order in my car. When I got there around 11 AM, it was not busy. I ordered a Mac Nut Latte. Once you order, they will work on your drink while you wait in the car. It was pretty quick to get the drink. The Mac Nut Latte was delicious, but a tad too sweet. The only place I actually go to to grab my coffee fix! Coffee is always on point best mocha frappe I've ever gotten always taste so amazing! Unlike some name brand companies!!! I always get the croissant turkey and cheese for my kid and some banana bread as a treat! He LOVES IT! It was kind of a middle-of-the-road experience--a touch more like milk with coffee than the balanced coconut-macadamia fusion I was hoping for. That said, the staff was super friendly, which added a nice touch. Ordering is drive-thru style, since it's a food truck, so it's fast and convenient for a quick stop. I did feel the caffeine kick, so if you're looking for a wake-up call, it does the trick! I'm chalking this up to maybe just an off day for the baristas and will likely give Akamai another shot. What could be more convenient that Akamai Coffee at the bottom of the mountain after you've watched the sun rise over the clouds and crater at Haleakala? As mentioned, they are at the bottom of the mountain. Also, they're at the vacant part of the large parking lot so our large convoy of 10 cars were able to park, stretch our legs, order coffee and stand around and make more plans while sipping coffee. I've had several occasions to try their different coffees. There are some I prefer more than others. Also, with so much family around, I get to taste everyone's drinks! AKAMAI has a great LATTE. Their flavored coffees are good too. My sister loves their HALEAKALATTE. Funny and good. If you want something stronger, their CORTADO is also legit great tasting and strong. My favorite. read more

The moment Mr. G scheduled our trip to Maui, I messaged a friend I have that's born and raised Maui. She's gotta have the deets, and she sure did! On my detailed list of what to do's, the must sees, and gotta trys was definitely Akamai's. I am part boba at heart, but tbh coffee is really high on my drink pyramid esp for optimal functioning... if you're serious about coffee, then you know that main chain ain't where it's at! When checking out a new spot I'll normally start with what's popular or something basic. There's nothing worse than ordering something and it being a complete disappointment... Since we only had a couple days on island and loads of other places to try, I went with popular. I have a major sweet tooth so that meant blended Fraps were it. Honey bee and white mocha were the chosen ones. For the kids they have blended drinks called snowflake. We really enjoyed all the drinks we had! This Akamai Coffee is a drive up shack in the parking lot of Home Depot. You can drive up on either side and there was always a line when we went. Just be sure to drive up with the driver side to the order window. We expected prices all over Maui to be higher than Oahu but it didn't seem so here. My friend said to ask for military or Kama'aina discount everywhere, I just can't remember if this spot offers either. Honestly, we probably forgot to ask but it's worth a try! Wish I could say this would be my new go to, but I dont see us relocating here or visiting the island often. I definitely recommend though! Their coffee never tasted bitter or burnt. The coffee flavor was always nice and distinct. I feel like the main chain just covers up their burnt coffee flavor with loads of ice and sugars... not here, you're getting full bodied coffee flavors that are complimented with their other flavors.
