Grown at 3300', probably the most meticulously tended coffee on the island, Erik is a perfectionist and it comes through the brew.

I took my parents for their 44th Anniversary and we all love outdoorsy activities so I knew we'd all enjoy this! We were asked to arrive at 10:30 am for the tour and it lasted until 1-1:30 pm. Arrive with good walking shoes, SPF, light sweater and hat (it can get either a little chilly or hot from the direct sunlight), and well hydrated if possible. We were greeted by our friendly and knowledgeable tourguide, Kate from Maryland! She shared with us so many facts about the locally grown produce from herbs, vegetables, fruits, to the friendly worms, to compost and facts about the Farm and the hardworking staff! It was interactive because we got to sniff the herbs, taste the locally grown lettuce, carry a chicken (as seen in the photo with my mom), and even pick the Cherry coffee! After the 2 hour tour, the last hour takes you back to this beautiful seating area in a garden like setting for your 4 course lunch! Each course, the chef comes out and shares details of each course. First course was a Medley of Greens grown on the farm with Tangerine vinaigrette. It was a generous portion for our party of 3 and tried to eat it throughout. There was spiraled carrots and radish with julienned snap peas. Second course was Pan Seared Ono (their proteins are all locally sourced) with Mamaki Tea and Lemongrass Rice with Bok Choy, Collared Greens and Cabbage. Third course was my favorite! I'm usually a big fan of fish but the chicken was so savory and that rub was delish! It was an Organic, Cage Free Chicken with Coffee Cherry Citrus rub with Caramelized Coffee Honey Hash of Carrots, Parsnips, Rutabaga and Celery Root. The spread was a Turmeric and Parsnip puree. Last course of dessert was the O'o Freshly Brewed Coffee with Milk and Simple Syrup with a Dessert Platter of Fresh sliced Pineapple, Tangerine and Apple with Homemade Chocolate Truffles. The meal left us full and nourished! What a wonderful anniversary gift to give my parents. We truly enjoyed it and even made some new friends, both local and visiting.

My son enjoyed the mahi mahi tremendously, which for a kiddo who only eats chicken normally, is a huge compliment! I thought the tour was very informative and interactive as well. Our guide Molly let us pick, smell, and explore a lot of the plants they have growing on the grounds. She also very nicely picked a tangerine for my son because he really wanted one. Overall, worthwhile experience, despite the long drive from Lahaina. I would do this again, whether it is the brunch + coffee tour or the lunch tour!

You can tell they put real care into what they serve, and it shows in every sip. We ordered two lattes, one with brown sugar and one with vanilla, and both were amazing. The flavors were balanced, not overly sweet, and complemented the quality of the espresso perfectly. We also shared a cheese danish that my husband absolutely loved. He said it was one of the best he has ever had, and I have to agree -- buttery, flaky, and so fresh. The shop itself has such a fun, cozy vibe. There's even a swing inside, which adds such a unique and playful touch. It's the kind of place you actually want to hang out in, not just grab a coffee and go. Service was excellent. The barista was super friendly and even made the cutest latte art, which totally made my day. I ordered a 12 oz and loved that it came in a mug, while my husband got a 16 oz to-go. My only wish is that they would offer mugs for the larger sizes too. It would be a nice way to cut down on paper and plastic and make the experience even better. Overall, Akamai Coffee is a gem. Between the amazing drinks, delicious pastries, welcoming atmosphere, and thoughtful service, it's the kind of place you'll want to visit again and again. If you're in Maui, definitely make time to stop by. You won't regret it!

While the coffee is definitely handled with care, the tour lacked structure and professionalism. Really felt all over the place. A majority of the tour was listening to the owner discuss her personal background (how she got here, how she came up with the name, etc), and very little about the coffee itself. During the tour, I felt singled out by the owner after I made a casual comment about wanting to live in Hawaii one day. Her responses were passive aggressive and judgmental ("how will you ever survive without your Amazon 2-day shipping?"). She continued to sling these types of comments at me in front of the group for the entire duration of the tour, which made it incredibly uncomfortable and unpleasant. The roaster is really nice and provided good insight on the coffee. That was the only good part of the tour. The coffee is good but I wouldn't not recommend the tour at all due to it being so unbalanced and unprofessional.

This visit felt really different. Today we brought family visiting from off-island after a walk on Thompson Road. We decided to stay and dine in instead of taking it to go. Looking back... maybe takeout would've been the better option. Ugh. I honestly hate writing this. The only reason I am is because I'm hoping someone from the Grandmas team reads this and actually cares enough to make some changes. If you don't know, you can't grow. Today our experience looked like this: * Watching several people get served after us even though we ordered first. Waiting for almost 30 minutes. * Our order getting mixed up and handed to the wrong person * Confusion about what muffins were available... okay fine, I'll take a blueberry muffin. Then halfway through eating it, I found a hair baked into it * Ordering potatoes without onions because of an allergy, having it made wrong twice, and needing it redone * Noticing the restaurant itself looked like it could use a deep cleaning, including ceiling fans with layers of dust And maybe this was just an off day, but the staff vibe felt... off too. Disconnected. Kind of cliquey. Like everyone seemed more interested in talking amongst themselves than serving guests. The warm, welcoming feeling Grandmas always had just didn't feel like it was there today. As a customer, I honestly felt like I was intruding or inconveniencing the staff just by being there, and that's a really strange feeling in a place we've loved for so long. That's honestly the part that made me the most disappointed. We've loved Grandmas for years, which is why this was tough. After reading several other reviews, it seems others may have had similar experiences too. I really hope things improve and staff morale lifts, because as customers, we feel it. Mahalo for reading. I truly hope this helps and leads to positive changes.
