Needed a custom made glass for a dresser. Called Akamai Glass & Supplies Co. Spoke with Richie who was able to give me a quote, which was $158.00. I was told my order would be ready in a week. Received a call 1 week from my initial call stating product was ready to be picked up. Their shop is located in Mapunapuna. Parking is tight. So make sure you park directly in front of their business to make it easier to load your item into your vehicle. Staff was friendly and loaded my custom made glass into my vehicle. I was in and out in less than 5 min. Excellent price & service from beginning to end. What more could you ask for :)

We hired them to remove a mirror and also to install a new mirror. Communication with them could've been better but they came and got both jobs done. The measuring guy came at the scheduled time and was quick. The scheduler guy told me they would come after 11:00am and said they would call me after their earlier job so I could meet them at home. On the day they were to install, they showed up at 9:00am, no phone call or anything. Good thing my daughter was off that day and were able to let them in to do the job. The mirror is beautiful and am happy with it. Thankful that my bathroom is finally done!

    Sliding glass doors! Great job!

When shopping for glass be sure to get a few estimates! I got 4 estimates for our shower and the estimates were all very different! Of the 4 estimates we got Akamai Glass was the only company we could afford! The other 3 were outrageous! They came in before our business was open to do the install and was done in 2hrs! Great job Thank you!

You can see the top and bottom u type metal frames but none on the sides.

We had Akamai glass install two exterior fixed windows and they did it with just top and bottom u type metal framing. I thought that was odd as one tall glass is next to the shower. They said that's how they do it but my contractor said they should have framed on all four sides. Now I'm stuck with this install. Horrible customer support with no concern for customers wants after job was done. A wong install is a wrong install.

Great job on the custom shower enclosure with the pony wall! ...whole customer experience was tough to swallow...

With so many ups and downs, it's tough to rate Akamai Glass - especially given the meaning of "akamai"; I really want to recommend them but am reluctant to do so unless you're really patient. The low cost comes with a challenging customer experience. I'll let the this complete pre-sales to post-sales story help you judge for yourself... Pre-sales / Sales Experience ====================== When evaluating three vendors for a custom shower enclosure, Akamai by far was the worst to deal with. After multiple calls and messages explicitly saying that I am trying to give money to someone, we eventually got an appointment set up, though I was ready to write them off then. Wayne Nitta and an assistant came out for a free on-site estimate and to make exact measurements. They were nice but couldn't tell me much about the products, simply deferring me to the manufacturer's website and leaving their catalog for me to peruse. It does seem odd that they could not tell me more about the main product line they sold. After some time though, they were able to get me an estimate. They were able to offer a customized frameless solution that was at a lower cost than that of two other vendors. Akamai said they would charge a deposit but in the end, did not - that seems to have been a mistake on their part rather than a generous gesture (as you'll see later). Installation Experience ================= The bumpy experience didn't stop there. Akamai said that it would take some time for the glass to be made on the mainland and shipped to Hawaii. That was fine but when the scheduled time came without a phone call, it felt like I had to chase Akamai for an ETA. The phone calls didn't inspire any confidence in terms of feeling like they knew where it was. But a couple of weeks later things eventually settled on an actual installation date. The installation itself was good - the guys came in professionally and got things installed just fine and we're happy with the finished product. Except for some rubber-scratching noise that can't be removed, the shower enclosure is as expected and surprisingly doesn't need any maintenance. Post-Installation Experience ===================== A few months later, I get a call saying that they need to charge me the full amount for the shower. They were wrapping up their year-end financials and somehow did not charge me for the product and service. I contested this and asked if I had not already paid for the deposit, but they they I had not. I did double-check and sure enough they had not and so paid for it all later. One might think that this would be a good thing, but as someone that runs a business, this is indicative of very poor business practices. Regardless, we got it settled in short order. A little while ago, the shower door would no longer roll, and instead just scrape along the shower edge floor. A service call was made and after the scheduler called me 4 (yes, four) consecutive times while I was in a work meeting, we eventually made an appointment. (Not sure why the company rep does not know how to leave a voicemail.) After taking time off work to accommodate their request of waiting until they were able to get staff in town, the help didn't arrive at our agreed-upon time. A call back to the scheduler revealed that despite what he promised, his workers could not come into town but had to go to their office in Salt Lake first instead. He was trying to get them out to town as soon as he reasonably could. Eventually they arrive, apologized, left their shoes outside and fixed the door; however, it was just another experience that showed how Akamai is not really well run at all. Summary ======= It's a family business (or a business with family) and while each individual you interact with may be nice and may try; my experience has shown me that time and time again with Akamai, you will suffer poor customer service. On the bright side, in my case, the price for what we were looking for helped compensate for the difference, but looking back on it, I can't help but wonder if paying $300 more with any of the other vendors would have saved a lot of (unpleasant) surprise, and anxiety. Tough to recommend to anyone.

So we were about to close on our property and we needed the shower doors in! I called Akamai Glass Company explained what we needed and they got it done! With everything on my end so last minute, They were able to install the door 2 days before our deadline! Amazing! Thank you and Mahalo to the team at Akamai Glass for your beautiful install!

March 16, still no Akamai glass.
    Norma Jean V.

Horrible service. Ordered in December and the Measurer didn't come out until January. Then they didn't order for 3 weeks because our Contractor didn't give them the deposit (he had authorized the Credit Card on file). Then they didn't order for another 3 weeks because of COVID. Then they cancelled the install because one of the workers called in sick. They finally came out to install and the measurement was off by 4 inches. Today, March 09, I was waiting for their call to see how they were going to make it right, and was dealing with Zack. If you call and talk to him, he doesn't sound like he wants to be there. Uncomfortable silences waiting for him to answer. Finally started dealing with Sherry and she decided to cut her losses as the fix was eating into their profit margins on this job. Bottom line; Akamai glass will not make it right, even if the mistakes are on their part. This review obviously will not put them out of business, that's not my intent. They have plenty of business feom large contract jobs,"Up to 300 per day! (as per Sherry). My intent is to let you know, if you're a small homeowner, that Akamai Glass does not value your dollar, and will treat you as a thorn in their side. Finally went with Guru Glass. Aloha! Be Akamai! Don't just say you are! Update: March 10 rec'd a call from Zach. We agreed to a discount and a second attempt at installing this glass. Not cancelling Guru just yet. Waiting on the discount and the glass. Update: March 16 rec'd an email from Chari stating they would refund all the $ since I announced on Yelp that we were going with Guru. I had previously talked to Zach and it sounded like we would be able to work something out. Unfortunately, it sounds like they let their emotions get in the way of business. Glad I didn't cancel Guru! Be Akamai, don't just say you are!

Sorry but it's a long but worthwhile review. I really don't like giving bad reviews since it can…read morereally affect a business. But I felt I needed to in this case. I called Anytime Handyman to come out and replace 2 damaged doors and install 2 new doors. I sent a text message to let Tyler letting him know my lock box number since it's a rental and no one will be there to let him in. I gave explicit instructions as to which doors needed to replaced. (it was obvious because of the visible damages). He sent me the estimate, I agreed and paid for the doors so he could order it. They went back to the rental, and installed the new doors as planned. Here's the prolblem, they took off the wrong door (not damaged) and put the new door on. Leaving the damaged door still damaged. That's not the end of it, the latch was not installed properly, it had a hole and crack. As for the other door that they installed, there was also a problem, the strike plate and latch were off centered and wasn't closing properly. I called Tyler to tell him the wrong door was removed and replaced, and sent him a snap shot of the text I sent him when he went out for the estimate, explaining which doors needed to be replaced. His answer was, that's not how he interpreted it. Everything seemed to be wrong with the job. From the wrong door being replaced, to the damages to the door and the other door's latch not closing properly. He said not to worry and it's normal it's not a problem, just let him do his job. Now I'm no handyman but I do know how to install a lockset, and I've never seen a hole of that size, nor did I ever see a strike plate and latch installed at an angle. In Tyler's defense, he did say if I'm not happy he would give me a new door. But at this point, my trust with their quality of work has diminished. Not even a new door would make me continue to do business with them. I will take that loss, and stop all remaining repairs with this company. Update: I read the business owner's responses to my review. First of all, the "so called Painter's" was my daughter and son in law who came over the weekend to help paint the doors, only to find the damaged doors and discrepancies on the other door as well, including the wrong door that was removed. I would have no reason to damage these doors that I had already paid in Full upon completion on Weds. Lastly, it speaks volumes when a business owner would illegally break a homeowner's right of privacy and send photos to anyone requesting it, without prior authorization. I stand by my review.

I had several issues with this company. Do not waste your time or money…read more Context: We need to repaint our home due to HOA requirements, and I reached out to 9 contractors across Oahu, including Handy Andy. 1/ They were the ONLY ones to charge a fee for an "on-site visit," i.e., just viewing our property and drafting an estimate. The charge was $175 and was "applied as credit" for the job; otherwise, if we don't move forward with them, it would be non-refundable, which is already a scam because of problem number 2. 2/ Between the 9 contractors, the quotes for the SAME painting job of our house I received were between the range of $6100 to $7800 AND exactly one at $16,073. Handy Andy quoted nearly DOUBLE what every single licensed painting contractor and company I reached out to is charging as of 2026. They articulated in their quote that they would try and price match any licensed contractor, but why would we trust them when they are so far from the average, and they are not transparent about what paint they're using, which would help us discern the quality? (see number 4) So now they keep the $175 for stopping by our house for 10 minutes, because there would be no way we would go with them after doing our research. I will note that I understand gas can be expensive, so I would not have minded paying a smaller fee for the trip to subsidize that cost, despite no one else charging us, but there is no way it cost $175 to send their intern (see item number 5). 3/ Every single contractor except for Handy Andy included minor wood repairs, chips, etc within the total cost, still not exceeding $8000, which was not the case and came at an additional cost to us. 4/ Every single contractor, within their quote, provided the exact paint they were planning to use, which helped us discern the quality of paint (For reference, the highest tier, the Ultra Premium option from Sherwin-Williams Rain Refresh, was quoted at $7400 in total for us), but Handy Andy did not include this information in their quote which would directly help us understand the value of what we are paying for. 5/ For the onsite visit (which they had to postpone for the following day after I had already changed my plans to accommodate their timing), every single company/contractor I called, the person who was either going to paint the house, owned the company or be part of the team that was going to paint showed up... except for Handy Andy. This young individual showed up to do the assessment. He said he was their scout and would not do any part of the actual paint and repair job. I asked him basic questions about priming and caulking, and brought up questions and concerns, particularly moisture treating, because Oahu is obviously very hot and humid, and he was unable to answer, often saying, "I'm not sure I know what that is, but I will get back to you." Considering I paid $175 for this individual, I would expect him to know the basic requirements of homes here. Overall, my husband and I are very upset that we spent $175 just to get a quote that was double the going rate on the island, and we feel like we were scammed. Don't waste your time!
