I had been wanting to try this place for a long time as its between my condo and my gym. Anyway, finally got my chance and had a nice lunch. Service was good but probably could have been a little friendlier, the server seemed rushed even tho the place was not busy. Got some sashimi and tonkatsu. The fish was fresh and the tonkatsu nicely crispy. A little on the pricey side but hope to retun soon to try other menu items.

We came here because we heard the lunch special was good ... and it was not good, it was amazing!!! There's a sushi bar, tables, and a small room with two tables. We were able to sit in the room and I liked it because it was more private than sitting at the tables. The server was very kind and attentive! We ordered a combo sashimi & tonkatsu and tempura sets. Each set came with edamame, salad, miso soup and rice. The portions they gave were more than I was expecting!! Very generous portions! The sashimi was great quality fish! The tempura was perfectly made and not too much tempura batter. The tonkatsu was crispy and not dry! Very happy with Akasaka and

I was looking to try a new Japanese restaurant and I came across Akasaka. I had actually never heard of this restaurant, but it's been around for quite awhile. Located right by Ala Moana shopping center behind club Femme Nu. Interesting location. Anyway, they had good yelp reviews so I was excited to try it. We made reservations for lunch at 11 AM and was surprised to see that during our lunch service, we were the only group that was in the restaurant. We ordered the sushi and a combo plate. Fish was fresh and well presented. Service was friendly. We all enjoyed our lunches. Not sure why they weren't busy? I thought the prices were very reasonable.

I went to a place I've been to before around the corner, but they were not open yet. I'm glad, because I found this place instead. I walk in, and it looks like a place. I'd expect to find in Japan. The lady was very friendly and I was seated right away. She brought me a big bowl of edamame, which I love. I decided to go with an appetizer, and two "small plates". They were half right. The plates were small, the portions were not. Overall, the food was good. I started out with the softshell crab. She brings it to my table, and it is a good portion. It was absolutely delicious, and I liked the dipping sauce. . The problem was, it was a bit oily. It's like maybe the fryer didn't have the right temperature oil or something like that. I could definitely see it on my fingers, and when I bit into like the second to the last piece, a little bit of oil actually dripped down my chin. By then, it was too late to send back. While , it was very good, this was the least successful item of the meal. My next item was the takoyaki (octopus) balls. These were also very good, and there was no real oiliness there. The octopus and the filling were absolutely delicious, and they came with Bonito flakes on top, which just added to the flavor. My last item, was the salmon shiyoyaki, and this was an absolute home run. A very decent sized portion of salmon, and it was tender, rich, and delicious. The lemon was perfect for squeezing on. And it came with what I thought was onion on the side. It turned out to be grated radish. I don't think I had had it before, and it was great. It offset the richness of the salmon just right. . An absolutely fantastic Dish. To drink, I thought I had a green tea, but it tasted just a little bit different. When I asked my server, she called it a "popcorn tea.". I looked it up, and it's a green tea with brown puffed rice. I love Japanese food, but obviously I don't know everything about it. The price was on the higher end, but that's because the softshell crab by itself was $20. I don't think I would have that again, the next time I come in, I want to try their sushi. It looked awesome. Thank you for a great meal.

Came here after seeing the amazing reviews and how it made you feel like you're in Japan for a moment. Our party of 7 came on a Friday night without a reservation. Waited maybe 15mins or so for a table to become available. The space is small with a bar area that maybe seats 6. The staff is very welcoming and provided immaculate service. Everything from their miso soup, soft shell crabs, udons, and sushi were excellent. We all left with happy bellies!

I came here for lunch right when they opened and it was a great decision! I dined in with my sister and we ordered O Toro Nigiri, Ebi Nigiri, Uni Nigiri, and a salmon roll to start off. Edamame was provided for free, which was a nice addition. All the nigiri's were fresh and so Ono! The salmon roll was good. Next we ordered the scallops and soft shell crab. Scallops were cooked perfectly and the sauce on the side was a nice add on, this is definitely a must order! The soft shell crab was okay, I felt it was a bit off tasting and I have had ones that tasted fresher. We then ordered Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura, which came out hot and crunchy. Tempura was perfectly cooked. Lastly, I ordered the butterfish teishoku, which included rice, green salad, and miso soup. The butterfish was so soft and very well flavored! Best butterfish I ate in a very long time. To finish off our meal we were offered Green Tea Ice Cream and it was a perfect end to our meal! The restaurant itself is very small, but the staff were very attentive and polite. This is a great spot to try out for some awesome tasting Japanese food.

Dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii... I've been to this old school restaurant, Akasaka, twice before today: The first time, was before Yelp - with my high school classmate. I don't remember what I ate, but I do remember that my car was towed. Do NOT park on Kona Street!!! The second time was with a Yelp friend. We had a nice time! She had made a reservation for us! This time, our group had no reservation. Craig T. walked over to Akasaka because the restaurant we wanted to visit wasn't open yet (even though their sign says "open at 6pm"). Craig said Akasaka can take all 7 of us right now! Yay! There's free parking in their lot. Go early because it gets full later! Inside, it's cozy and warm... literally. I was fanning myself and patting my perspiration with a napkin! Service was quite attentive and bold. We heard about their appetizer scallops and sushi platter several times. LOL! The owner, Yuko, has been in business for 45 years! She gave us complimentary appetizer of agedashi tofu - very delicious! Thank you! We were also served edamame... yummy! I got the 2-choice teishoku dinner, which comes with miso soup, white rice, and green salad... yum! My miso butterfish and shrimp and Veggie (pumpkin, eggplant, sweet potato, and zucchini) tempura were delicious! Itadakimasu!!!

Since Red Cafe was close bunch of us friends decided to go next door to Akasaka . Entrance to Akasaka is on Kapiolani Blvd but there's a lane that goes through to Kona St. First of all the air conditioner was not working properly because auntie Nadine and I was sweating while eating our dinner that wasn't comfortable . I ordered their 3 selection Tonkatsu , Ahi teriyaki and shrimp tempura. It comes with miso soup and a side salad and rice . The owner came to our table and introduced herself she replied she giving us complimentary Agadashi tofu which was ok . Service was ok but I felt like the workers kept on upselling the sushi which our party just wanted to eat food instead of sushi . The portion was fairly small I was still hungry when I left the restaurant. Ample parking available and support local

Akasaka was not on the radar. Red Cafe next door was. That restaurant wasn't open. Upon entering Akasaka, I noticed that they had tatami mat seating and table seating. The table seating was a bit uncomfortable. The restaurant was warm. The A/C didn't seem to be working. I ordered a three choice Teishoku. It included Sashimi, Teri beef, and tempura. The sashimi had two slices of Maguro and three slices of salmon. This was top quality and delicious. The teriyaki was bland. The meat was overcooked, and yet there was no char on it. Tempura was also a disappointment. It looked like I made it, not what you would expect from a Japanese restaurant. It was a little pricey for what you got. Enjoy

There are meals one enjoys. Meals one admires. Meals one respectfully documents, notes the flavor balance of, and later describes using words like "elegant" and "well-executed." And then there are meals that rock your world. This was one of them. Kaiten sushi, or conveyor belt sushi, is a casual, affordable Japanese dining style invented in 1958 where plates of sushi rotate on a motorized belt passing diners, allowing them to select dishes directly. Here at Kaiten Sushi Ginza Onodera, it's not the typical catwalk of pre-made maki rolls, nigiri, and other offering. You order off a kiosk and then it is fast-tracked to your table via sushi belt. Here at Kaiten Sushi Ginza Onodera, you are granted the ability to try their Edomae-style sushi for a more affordable price. Edomae-style sushi is a traditional Tokyo cuisine originating in the 1820s, featuring seafood, often cured, marinated, or simmered, served atop rice seasoned with red vinegar (akasu). It focuses on enhancing fish flavor through technique rather than just raw freshness, historically acting as fast food for 19th-century Edo residents. That said, dare I say the best meal I had during my stay on Oahu? I DARE! This was an excellent place suggested by Randy S. I really can't tell you all we had because Randy took charge but every bite? Certified bangers. Not one bad bite had. I would have ordered more but I was not very assertive and everyone wanted the iPad . Most of the nigiri orders were only one at the price point I am used to paying for two and I prefer the experience of sharing. My husband at the other table sampled more than I did. Deep fried Octopus and Toro, I had Yellow Tail and Carpacio, sample two rolls. Big surprise, the French fries were outstanding. The check worked out to about 50 pp. I think that was mostly my husband who enjoyed an array of dishes. As mentioned in other reviews, the bill stacks up quickly. I given them 4 stars for uniqueness, mostly.

After walking around, the hostess asked if we had a reservation. I gave her my name, but she said we didn't have one, even though the restaurant was nearly empty. She then explained that our reservation was actually at their sister restaurant around the other side of the building. We went over there and found that it was primarily a sushi restaurant, which wasn't really what we were looking for. We had expected more of an izakaya-style experience, so we canceled the reservation and returned to the original restaurant. Once seated, the service was good and our server was attentive throughout the meal. One thing that was a little confusing was that sushi and sashimi had to be ordered from the sister restaurant, even though we were dining in the other restaurant. The food was brought over and served to us without any issues, and there were no problems with the bill, but it took us a while to understand how the two restaurants operated together. We ordered several dishes, including chicken skin wrapped gyoza, crab tempura, an assorted sashimi platter, a cream cheese and fish roe appetizer served with toast, an egg dish topped with fish roe, chicken karaage, and the miso butterfish. The highlights for me were the chicken karaage, miso butterfish, and gyoza. I enjoyed them enough to order another round of the gyoza and chicken. That said, many of the dishes leaned toward the sweeter side of Japanese cuisine, which just isn't my personal preference. If you enjoy those flavors, your experience may be different. Overall, the food was good, the service was solid, and there were a few standout dishes. The confusion with the reservation, entrance setup, and relationship between the two restaurants got the evening off to an awkward start, but the meal improved once we were seated. I'm not really a Japanese food person, so four stars is probably the highest rating I could realistically give a Japanese restaurant. With that in mind, I thought they did a good job, and there were a few dishes I would consider ordering again.

It was quiet loud when they welcomed guests which wasn't easy to handle but I understood why they were doing that. Loved the presentation of our choices which we took pics of. Thank you for a fun evening. We'll be back next year.

First, our service by Manager JP and server John are 2nd to none. If you follow my Yelp reviews and sushi reviews you KNOW we are indeed global sushi "experts" from San Francisco, to NYC, Miami, Tel Aviv and everywhere in between. We were in town for the King Kamehameha Day and weekend parades and celebrations. Our son is a rising Senior at University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and two of his friends joined our party of six which our son made the Sunday evening reservations. My mother-in-law was using a scooter this trip and JP was very generous & helpful in accommodating our "parking" needs inside the restaurant. We were seated in a "prefect" table outside overlooking the Wakiki strip. Our server John was very welcoming, hospitable and kind. As we settled in and reviewed our massive menus which "like reading a newspaper" has just about everything to accommodate any diner needs. Unfortunately, a light rain and drizzle happening requiring us to relocate inside in a very comfortable table at the front of the restaurant that John took full charge in making our "transition" simple and quickly. Now, the sushi selections were very unique, amble, beautiful and delicious! Our creative cocktails and entree selections are too extensive for this dyslexic to list here. I took a photo and it is listed in the photos. Our sushi experience was amazing! Highly recommend Doraku Sushi Waikiki! Manager JP and Server John rock!

There were standouts and overall we loved the meal. A local id gets the 10% service fee removed which was nice. I would recommend the $150 lunch omakase - I don't think the $50 abalone dish was worth the upgrade.

Every piece of sushi was beautifully presented not overwhelming. You can really tell the chefs put a lot of thought into the balance of flavors and textures. One of my favorite bites was a sashimi piece topped with something that looked like finely grated cheese (not sure what it actually was), but it melted perfectly with the fish and added a really unique savory flavor. The chefs and staff also had a good sense of humor. At one point they served kinki fish and jokingly explained that the English translation sometimes gets called "idiot fish," which got everyone laughing at the counter. The omakase is definitely on the pricier side, but the quality, presentation, and overall experience made it very satisfying. If you're looking for a refined sushi experience with great service and beautifully crafted bites, this place is worth the splurge.

DOMO Café, you do NOT disappoint! Domo's Kahala location has quickly become our go-to, grab-and-go…read moresushi joint. Although they have a clean and comfortable space for dining in, we regularly stop by after church or on the weekends for something to savor at our favorite park. Seriously, it's easy to enjoy their bowls, sushi sets, or bentos anytime and anyplace. We've got a passion for this place. Here's how this love affair started...I discovered Domo when a friend invited me for some sushi and sips at her place. I was amazed at the beautiful platter of sushi that accompanied our sake and wine. My friends are the best hosts! I devoured the bombs, nigiris and rolls (in between sips!). Everything was simply delicious! Fast forward a few months, I order a couple sushi sets to host a poolside, golden-hour birthday get together at my other friend's home. (I know, you want to be part of this squad, right?!). Anyway, using the online order system is a snap! My hubby went in to pick up the sushi and said they were slammed but our sushi sets were ready to go. This time we ordered some ikura because the hubby and my bestie are big fans. Both agree it was fresh and fantastic! And the garlic set with the flash-seared fish and a hint of mayo is a MUST-try. We also ordered a California roll for my friend's aunt who is not really a sushi fan. She delighted in several pieces and even enjoyed the nigiri from the garlic set. Total convert! After enjoying the platters and sets, we had to try the bentos and bowls. This time it's just us and the pup at the park. The bentos provide a great variety and comes with miso soup. The hubby really likes the shrimp tempura with ahi and salmon nigiri and ahi poke. It's a steal at less than $20. I'm a bowl girl myself and like the spicy tempura. The tempura is cooked crisp yet tender. The spicy ahi poke combined with the creamy crab salad and the crunchy ocean salad delights all my tastes buds. It's truly an adventure in finding the perfect bite--and there are so many in this bowl! I also love the seared salmon bowl. It is melt-in-your-mouth goodness. I add the fried onions for some texture. You know a place is top-notch when you can feel confident that anything off their menu will satisfy your cravings. Because this is a Yelp review, here are some helpful tips. For sushi platters, pre-order. The online system is simple to use. Service is fast and efficient if you're just walking in for a quick bite or to grab something to go. Parking has always been easy for us to find in the small lot in the complex where Domo is located. It's right next to Assagio's Kahala. But if you're worried about parking, I suggest ordering in advance and then just picking up. This works great during peak dining hours. If you want fresh, delicious sushi that is reasonably priced be like us and visit Domo Café. You will probably also be like us and want to go back to try more.
