Half a decade ago, before the food truck rage, before specialty burger spots began popping up around Baton Rouge, the LSU region's option for a greasy burger fix came down to two places: one at Northgate and one at Southgate. For years Roul's has garnered the love of the Tigers for it's Juicy Juicy. For those of us who live on the Southside, there is only Akasha. It has been an institution for nearly a decade. Need kegs, hookah, cheap wine, and a one pound burger. Akasha has got you. I haven't stepped inside a Tigerland bar in years, but if LSU has an initiation beyond Saturday Night in Death Valley, it is soaking up blue test tube shots and beer with the nice booze mop that is an Akasha cheeseburger combo. And they have a mystery garlicy, pepper secret sauce. Their hours run late, until 4am on the weekends. Their selection of alcohol can please any crowd and their grill is always open. As are the perpetually rotating spits of gyro and chicken shawarma. Treat yo self

Ahhh finally the time has come. I have lived in Baton Rouge for 3 years and never step foot in this hidden, sorta rough on the edges GEM. Man this place has absolutely everything you need from fake gucci belts, bongs, fried chicken, and probably about 250 different varieties of drinks. I was surprised to see Big Shots from NOLA and welches grape juice as a regular thing on the shelves. I ordered the chicken strips and fries. The chicken was made fresh to order and Kenny the cashier was hilarious. Definitely will be back time and time again.

This is Gyro Pita from Akasha Market! So delicious!!! You will need that in rest of your life!

Very above average burgers and gyros. Come here a lot during the school year. Kind of a strange place around 1:00am.

Akasha has the best burgers. Under new ownership since I first moved to BR and was rather pleased to see that the food has not changed

They staved off an eviction nearly a decade ago and have somehow managed to stick around for a total of nearly 7 decades. Dearman's is the last legit diner in the city. The interior is a trip back in time. The spacious dining room is complete with retro furniture, checkered floors, and old school artwork that feels like something out of the 1950s. The decor screams pure Americana and is one of the biggest draws for the many patrons that come through daily. My favorite part is their juicy burgers. Pair it with their crispy fries and their old school milkshakes, and one has a complete meal. The burgers are hearty, and the portions are substantial. They also have salads, other sandwiches (tuna is my go-to), and various options for loaded fries. The other awesome part are the prices. Minus the double cheeseburger, there are no items that exceed $10 on the entire menu. The staff is young and always enthusiastic, and they play a big part in making this place such a destination. It is group / kid-friendly, and an ideal lunch spot. Orders can be placed online, but I recommend eating in for the full experience.

Whoever put these two items together is a genius! The chewy, meaty, crunchiness of the cracklins along with the gooey, saltiness of the cheese curds is the perfect combo. It's like Peanut butter and Jelly! Peas and Carrots! Beavis and Butthead! Ok I may have went too far but they are great. The beer is good too. Agile usually has 15 or so different beers or seltzers on tap. What I like about Agile is they don't just have 12 different IPA's (although I am a huge IPA guy) a stout and a blonde. They have all kinds of styles which is a good change of pace. Upon my last visit I had a Stout, An American Wheat, an IPA and a Krystalweisse (German light beer) in my flight. All were really good but the Krystalweisse was surprisingly good in that it was both flavorful and still light. Another plus for Agile is they are in an industrial park that includes 2 distilleries and another brewery. So, get you some curds and cracklins then get shmangled. Just call an Uber.

Bingo is free for paying customers, and I got their #5 brew - Lemon Buffer, a lemon vanilla sour - and the Locked and Loaded Taters. The beer queso on the tater tots was a nice touch! I was indoors for Bingo but their outdoor space looked nice with picnic tables and string lights lit up at night.
