Absolutely excellent sushi from the selection to presentation and flavor. We went for lunch and had just sushi then had to return for dinner just to try some other items. Service was perfect, greeted right away, friendly and attentive throughout our visit. The sushi presentation was beautiful with a lot of attention to the details. Minimal rice, just enough to surround the filling and hold together, not too much to overpower the texture. All three rolls were different with unique flavors and textures. The ones with multiple fish selections on them were done perfectly balanced with enough of each to taste them all. We also got the crab rangoon which were the sweetest little pillows filled with a creamy crab flavored goodness. For our return dinner visit we again got sushi and crab rangoon but also got two entrees so we'd have leftovers the next day for traveling. The fried rice isn't quite what we expected but the shrimp and beef were cooked perfectly and the flavors were spot on. I highly recommend Ozu852, especially for sushi, and will definitely return when in the area. read more

We decided to come here for lunch on Saturday after a long morning of errands - my husband was optimistic based on reviews glowing it was a "hidden gem". We love sushi - travel all the way to columbus just to have some from the unofficial "japantown" at kenny center Upon arrival at 2 pm, not super busy but the store appeared bright and well decorated. We were directed to pick our preferred seating. Menus were brough quickly, drink orders we taken and brought out quickly. Sprites, came with a cup of ice. This was were it went downhill. My husband is allergic to shellfish, and we eat out understanding there is a chance of cross contamination based on what we order. He had a mild reaction - we determined his reaction was from the glass with ice, which indicates it was not washed well. Not a good sign... We ordered house lo mein, king salmon nigiri, tuna nigiri, tuna roll, and one chicken and vegetable hibachi. Sushi? The rice was long grain and unseasoned... it fell apart as my husband picked it up. The fish was.. ok.. not wowed. Even the king salmon was...just salmon and not anything amazing. My tuna roll never made it. My husband said this was the first time he had bitter ginger... he spat that back out - ginger is suppose to be a palate cleanser... Lo mein? Was ok. It was not greasy, which is what I usually encounter. Noodles were soft, but ok. Flavor.. lacking.. and there was a notcieable amount of sauce at the bottom.. so it was too runny. The hiabachi? The fried rice, saddest fries rice ever. It was hard middle and .. flavor was offputting.. this is coming from a girl that was raised to eat rice everyday in many forms. I love durian, and this rice manage to offput me.... the flavor was just weird. First time ordering from Ozu 852 Chinese Restaurant. I got a large fried rice, 8 crab rangoons, and a General Tso's dinner with rice--total was around $30. First impressions weren't great. The restaurant itself is small but clean, and I was greeted quickly, so the service side was fine. Unfortunately, the food didn't really match that same positive start. The fried rice looked and tasted pretty bland on opening--definitely needed extra seasoning. The General Tso's was okay, but nothing really stood out overall. The one highlight for me was definitely the crab rangoons. They were crispy, cooked well, and honestly the only thing I fully enjoyed. If I go back, that's probably all I'd order again. I tried adding soy sauce and the red sauce they include, which helped a bit, but it still didn't fully bring the meal together. Interestingly, after letting the leftovers sit overnight in the fridge, the flavors seemed to come out more and it tasted better the next day than fresh. Overall, I'd give it 2/5 stars. Not my favorite experience, but I might give them one more try in the future, mainly just for the crab rangoons. read more

We were in town (Dayton) for a conference and had a hankering for sushi. This place seemed very popular, as I heard a regular chatting with the owner. If my hearing was correct, I overheard them say they were opening another restaurant. That would be nice, as there wasn't much parking and the restaurant was small. I got the Crab Rangoon (8 pieces) and it was skillfully prepared. They were very generous with the dipping sauce too. I also got Egg Drop Soup, and it was the largest serving of soup I have ever had! For $2.50! My husband got two different sushis. Unfortunately, the Sweet 16 Roll was unlike any type of sushi one could expect, being extremely sweet. I'll tell you why: spicy lobster salad, shrimp tempura, and fried BANANA, wrapped in soybean nori, with MANGO sauce on top. It was sweetness overload, and the pieces were too large. In fact, it appeared that there were a lot of items on the menu with mango sauce. The second sushi was some type of spicy tuna, and the pieces were too small. The disparity between the tastes and sizes made for a weird experience. But guess what? We returned the next night with six friends, and they enjoyed their meals. The last few times have not been a good food experience and the last time was poor service and food. Was notified order was ready and got there and was told the did not receive it and was not ready!!! Advised I was notified and paid for online, they said they would get it ready after much discussion. I then had to wait another 25 minutes and then they discovered they had given my original order to someone else. They gave ONE Eggroll for my inconvenience!!' I don't eat egg rolls. I do wish there were descriptions under all of the regular and special rolls so you knew exactly what you were ordering (especially some of the rolls with names- like Boston and Philadelphia, etc.) There were some rolls I wouldn't have ordered had I known, but oh well! I can't say enough how much I love this little place! The sushi and sashimi here is the best I've had in Ohio by far and I'm very very picky about my sashimi. This small business is very hardworking, kind, and I've never had a problem with my orders. The food tastes very good and I've never caught a foodborne illness coming from this restaurant, which can be a more likely issue with small businesses vs chain restaurants. The staff is always very friendly and attentive. There are a few specific dishes that aren't my favorite compared to other restaurants. The quality doesn't compete, but it's also understandable. It's in an unlikely strip mall that gave me serious Breaking Bad vibes, but don't be scared because deliciousness awaits inside. I had the chirasi and sake. The chirasi was fresh, beautifully presented, and tasty. They had a good selection of sake, and I settled on the Rei junmai and was happy with my choice. The only negative I could mention about the sushi is it's heavily Americanized, with lots of deep fried fish and mayonnaise. If I am back in town, I may ask them to make me a chef's roll with just fish and rice, hold the Americanization. They were doing cash payments only the night I went, so go to the ATM first.
