had a really nice experience at Aki Steak House & Sushi. What I liked most is that the restaurant has two different styles of dining. On one side, the chef cooks right in front of you which is fun to watch, and on the other side it's more of a traditional dining setup where you sit at a table and a server takes your order. I chose the dining side this time. The sushi was fresh and tasted great. I also ordered a dinner box, which was good overall, but I realized teriyaki sauce just isn't really my thing. Personally I prefer steak cooked more simply without heavy sauce so I can taste the meat itself. That's more of a personal preference though, and I'm pretty sure they could have adjusted it if I had asked. I feel like I could've gotten sushi of same caliber from the grocery store, although that honestly may have been more expensive. Some diners have apparently found bugs in their food... I haven't, and honestly, I'm too busy inhaling their vegetable fried rice to notice. Always get a pot of tea to share, and the portions are so big I'm either shocked I finished it all or planning round two as leftovers. Can't speak to the hibachi side, but the restaurant side is solid. Service is fine--nothing memorable, positively or negatively. The place can get loud, and the 80's music is pure nostalgia. This was for a long time, my favorite restaurant in the region and would seek it out whenever I had the option. Since having a long hiatus I returned! Tonight the family stopped in and while the food was delightful, we kept getting the wrong orders. The drinks coming out as diet, not a big deal. Easy fix. Ordering the sushi for two and having it changed to a sashimi meal. Not so easily fixed. We accepted the order so the food would not be wasted, but not only was it not what we ordered, but it was $10 more as well. The food was delightful, but not to the tastes of everyone at the table who were used to sashimi. We will definitely return, but I will ask the staff to repeat the order back to make sure we get what was ordered. read more

I haven't done Hibachi in years but this was really good! Entertaining show, my friends and I had a lot of fun. Easy to make a reservation. Only thing I didn't love was that they wouldn't let us come in to be seated without our whole party there until we finally asked if we could just sit and not start until they're there. I think it was some miscommunication. Steak and scallop hibachi - awesome! Huge portions. Liked the sauces it came with. The steak was a little more cooked than what I asked for but still delicious. They also had some free cheesecake for my birthday! Sushi rolls - I had a couple sushi rolls (salmon mango roll) and I was really surprised at how fresh the salmon was. The roll really blew me away! I'd definitely come back when I'm in the Hanover area just to try more of their sushi rolls! read more

Apparently I have been ordering the wrong meals. I actually enjoyed my overall experience here. Service was good with a few comical mistakes. Food was cooked to order and was correct. Steak was tender and had great flavor. Flavor of noodles and rice was better than I remember. Grill chef did a nice job of entertaining preparing our meals. With this visit that I actually enjoyed. My husband and I have been craving sushi for months but all the places local to us are still closed for dining in. We were in Hanover for a school event and were starving. I consulted Yelp and we were thrilled Aki was open to dine. Upon entering, everything was clean, staff were wearing masks, people were distanced. We opted for a regular table, which was fantastic because the booths have high backs that essentially create little cubicles. Our service was stellar and our glasses were never empty. My husband is still (a week later) raving about the crab salad he had. We ordered three rolls- Big Easy, Spicy Thai and.... something I can't remember. They were all SPECTACULAR, with balanced flavors and textures but I have to call out the Spicy Thai. MY WORD! It was so unique and fresh tasting. It really had Thai yumminess- cilantro you could taste and a little sriracha on a paper thin slice of fresh jalapeno. I can't wait to get back there. read more

Their menu offers various appetizers, soups, salads, sushi, sashimi, signature rolls, hibach, and even lunch specials. A group of us came here for a later lunch, and we ordered: a Summer Roll (a pancake filled with shrimp, crab, cilantro, cucumber, and spring mix; the 'pancake' was more like a buttered roti, and it was pretty tasty! The sweet and sour sauce that it came with complemented the roll well); Bacon Shrimp (shrimp, cream cheese, and asparagus, wrapped in bacon with seafood sauce; this was one of my favorites! The blinds save window was gross and the blinds in the window was splattered entry something. You can tell they never clean. We went to get dinner here after a long day, I got the seafood comb hibachi. After tasting my lobster it seemed to taste like it was soaked in bleach I decided to take a sniff and it definitely smelt of mild ammonia. I raise my immediate concern with the chef cooking the food. Without hesitation he went and got a new one and cooked it again for me...... AGAIN my lobster tasted of bleach I couldn't even swallow it. I let my husband smell that piece and boyyyy was the ammonia scent even stronger in that pieces I lost my appetite and could not eat any longer. It amazes me how I get two bad.. horrible pieces of lobster, I don't eat my food and they don't even offer to comp my meal. God has gifted the city of Hanover once again with an amazing Japanese restaurant that will blow your mind. (The first being Blue Koi). Aki is located directly across from the mall in a stand alone building on Carlisle near the Eisenhower intersection. Right when I walked in, the waterfall wall was a clue that this was not going to be my typical Hanover experience. When I walked up to the hostess, the room glowed with blue and purple lights against the dark wood. It was like walking into the W hotel in Atlanta. The ceiling decor definitely has a modern Asian theme to it. The menu itself is extensive and tantalizing, especially the specialty rolls. I ordered the sashimi salad with wasabi mayo as an appetizer. Gosh that was so flavorful and refreshing while getting my raw fish fix for a moderate price ($10). I also ordered the Tiger roll which is a grilled spicy tuna, avocado and crab roll topped with spicy crab and spicy shrimp ($11). Yummm. The service is good. These people are dedicated! Almost all of them live in New York but come here to work. They only go home about twice a month!! Now that is called dedication to good sushi. I think this ranks as one of the top 2 restaurants in Hanover, and you definitely need to make your way here if you haven't yet. I know I'll be coming back! I finally made it out to Aki to try their sushi, and I'm glad that I did. It was excellent! The dining room is very nice, clean, and there are separate tables from the area where they do the hibachi. There are a lot of choices on the menu. I had a hard time deciding on which sushi rolls to get. They all sounded excellent. I settled for the Thai Spicy(Shrimp Tempura, Spicy Crab, Cilantro, topped with sliced fresh jalapeno and sriracha) and a Spicy Tuna roll. Both of these rolls were great. I will definitely be going back to Aki, and hopefully I'll try the hibachi at some point too. read more

Pretty good meal was had by myself and my brother. It took a few minutes to be seated for the hibachi. I have been to several and found this one to be on par with most. The menu was like a novel and a little hard to follow with spelling mistakes galore (really nobody available speaking english as a first language to take 10 minutes to proof-read that thing). I was a little disappointed that the hibachi included soup or salad, not both. The meal itself was very good, although the whole production felt a little rushed as it was done from start to finished eating in like 15 minutes. I felt like they were trying to flip our table as it was not full and it was Saturday night. The star of the meal was the sushi roll 214. Amazing. The staff was polite and friendly, but the teenage waitstaff was a little inexperienced and awkward, no big deal. Also...really big cannot fail to mention, they serve no alcohol! This is my FAVORITE restaurant, hands down. I love this place! I always get the sushi, and I've had a lot of sushi. Some bad, some good, but the sushi here is delicious. Tons of variety too! I have been here a few times and keep coming back. The first time eating here I sat on the hibachi side of the restaurant. The presentation was great and our chef was very entertaining. He even made the kids smile after they got frighten by the onion volcano he lit on fire. I order the chicken and steak. The steak was cooked perfectly(medium rare) and served with a generous portion of fried rice. They had two different kinds of dipping sauce. I was not a fan of one but the light colored sauce was delicious. For a family of 5 the bill was on the higher side. On my second visit we opted to sit in the dining room side. They gave us our own private booth. We ordered the sushi this time around. The menu had many choicest I choose from. I went with the Aki roll(White tuna and Banana tempura, spicy kani and shrimp, tobikos, topped with avocado, shrimp tempura, eel sauce and spicy sauce). The thought of banana in a sushi roll was strange but it worked. My third visit I came for lunch with a friend. We sat in the dining room side once again. The place seemed clean just as it had in the first two visits. Except the lobby area when we first walked in. It had a nasty odor I hoped didn't linger into the restaurant. We both order different sushi rolls. This time I order the Spicy Maki combo(Spicy tuna,spicy salmon,spicy yellowtail roll). Even though they say spicy they usually are not but I didn't really mind. I also ordered a side of eel sauce for dipping(a co-worker of mine suggested it) I can honestly say the eel sauce is my go to over soy. This was my first experience with a Japanese restaurant and I loved it! I ordered the Japanese green tea, which was perfect. The lunch special Bento box was just the right amount of food with a great variety. I chose the chicken teriyaki. I had never tried sushi and despite my reservations, took the plunge with the spicy crab roll. The amount of heat was enough for me to handle and I loved the sticky rice. The vegetable tempura was lovely and if I hadn't been comfortably full, I would have ordered dessert. I'll be back, so I'll have some next time!
