While the rest of the family was out of town, my son and I were on our own for dinner and decided to try this spot after he'd been craving sushi. We've been searching for a place that consistently delivers quality, and unfortunately, this wasn't it. I ordered my usual volcano roll along with another house roll, while my son chose two different house rolls. The restaurant being a bit busy gave me some hope, but that didn't translate to the food. The volcano roll was a letdown from the first bite. The second roll was slightly better, but still nothing I'd go back for. My son enjoyed his meal, though his standards are a bit more forgiving than mine. One noticeable issue was the rice--there was so little of it that the nori was visible through the roll. Rice is the most basic and cost-effective ingredient, and skimping on it made the rolls feel lacking in both substance and balance. Overall, I wasn't impressed with the food. My wife and I went back to Akita Sushi at lunch time on a Friday. The place was busy but the attentive and friendly server was staying on top of things. There must've been 7-8 tables occupied while we were eating lunch but service was efficient. My wife, always eager to try new things, ordered the Tofu Teriyaki bento with fried gyoza instead of shrimp shumai (shellfish allergies). She also ordered an Alaska roll. I opted for the Hibachi Combo of steak and shrimp. I also ordered a Spicy Tuna roll. Upon tasting the tofu teriyaki, my wife's eyes got big and said OMG! She was wowed by the flavors! She thinks, for that dish alone, Akita deserves 5 stars! So here I am updating my review. Perhaps my wife will keep on ordering this dish for our future visits. read more

My mom lives in Ocala. So when I come to visit her, I rely on Yelp for suggestions and ideas. I had to call as their online menu was not allowing ordering, they gave me their new address and I submitted to Yelp for update. On their online menu and they have lunch specials on Saturday. I opted for the sashimi lunch special which was sashimi, California roll and soup or salad. I ordered the soup. I ordered it then left to pick it up. I checked Before I left the parking lot (but already in my car) There was no California roll just the pieces of sashimi. I go back in the restaurant and I said there is supposed to be a California roll with this. She said no roll with sashimi, only sushi lunch has the California roll. I said I ordered it off of your new website and supposed to have a California roll. She said yes that's a mistake. We have to update it and then she hand me a menu where she crossed off the free California roll. If somebody orders it from your website and it said that it came with a California roll. they should've honored it. They did not. I had to pay for the California roll that was supposed to be included in my lunch special. 2 pieces of the sashimi I threw out due to their color. Daughter, Granddaughter and I went for a special dinner last weekend. We were greeted as if it was a 4 star establishment, the server, never was off tract thru the whole dinner. She was gracious, knowledgeable, seemed to understand our "wants". We had assorted food, daughter had 2 rolls, nicely presented... but I was apprehensive about the sanitation of the silk flowers, but thatvsaid both rolls well made and she enjoyed them. Granddaughter had a sweet potato roll, as she is allergic to seafood, and said it was delicious. She also had the steak hibachi. The steak was on point , rice well cooked and she had lunch for the next day. I had scallops and shrimp hibachi . I usually say I need more sauce! Hibachi sauce was on sweet side, which was new for me. The crab wontons were delightful. We also fought over the last piece of crab/cream cheese. Let me be clear, the food was decent. This place use to be under different ownership. We loved it then. We were tragically disappointed when we went in and ate with the new owners. This place was Grace in 2018, then they moved across the street and became Asian Kitchen. I did not know this the 1st time I went in to Akita's . I was heartbroken, Ltd menu, higher prices, not as fresh. Took us 2 months to find The old Grace was now Asian Kitchen. So happy about that. They are the best in all areas. Having said that I went back and gave this place another try. Here is my take. If you are looking for noodle dishes, or older style Japanese food, its not bad, prices do very. People are nice enough, the menue is just limited in my eyes, most of all the sushi section. Paying about 20% more than A.K. for sushi. But it is small and quiet, and usually never crowded.
