When I arrived I was informed I would need to wait another 30 minutes so I did. Received my order for it to be incorrect. I told them it was incorrect and I was told it would be another 30 minutes or longer till they finished their other orders. I went for Lunch the other day.. this cute spot is tucked in downtown Inverness..I was greeted promptly and also had my order taken.. ordered the Beef Teriyaki Bento Box. It is also served with Soup and Salad..jo picture of the Soup since I did not want it,..dressing on Salad was delicious...the Bento came with the Beef on top of Sauteed Veggies, Sushi Rolls, Spring Rolls,White Rice..plenty of food, Beef was tasty and Ropd were excellent too a nice variety of food for you to enjoy...looking forward to visiting again soon! read more

The service is fine. The quality of the fish is inconsistent. They seem perfectly happy doing more take-out than dine-in business. Once they stopped allowing customers to request substitutions it made me feel like my business didn't matter. But my biggest problem is the quality of the fish... or should I say lack of quality. First time trying Kawa Sushi House! I think I may have had too high of expectations as I've had very good sushi in Orlando and other places...also I'm Asian lol. My bf and I tried the Spicy Maki and Happy Maki sushi bar entree. Included in the spicy maki was a spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, and spicy California roll. Each came with 6 pieces. My Happy Maki meal came with 4 shrimp tempura pieces, 6 California pieces and 6 eel avocado pieces. I've got to say my rice was pretty hard and it was nothing special. I think my favorite was the spicy tuna but honestly it was kind of difficult to distinguish between the spicy tuna and the spicy salmon...they lowkey taste the same. Overall, I had high hopes and I've heard good things about the bentos so I'll have to come back and try that next. I'm gonna have to hard pass on the sushi though... Nice family business and pretty affordable prices. Service was prompt and the ambiance was perfect for like a nice dinner date/family dinner. read more

I placed a large to-go order online on the evening of 12/27/24, which included edamame, spring rolls, two udon noodle entrées, and several volcano rolls. I've been to Kawa many times before, and the food is usually great, so I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the fish in the volcano rolls smelled off, and the crab pieces on top was so rubbery and old that we couldn't even chew through it. I have ordered the volcano roll at Kawa many times before and I know how it is supposed to taste. The rolls were also missing the fish eggs topping. The entrées were equally disappointing--undercooked onions, tough, rubbery meat, and overall no flavor. The edamame and spring rolls were the only items we could actually eat, and I'm fine paying for those since we consumed them. Based on the state of the food, I suspect Kawa may not have received a fresh delivery since before Christmas, and is trying to sell off old (possibly expired?) product. I offered to send photos or even bring the food back to the restaurant to show I hadn't eaten it and wasn't just "trying to get free food." I've reached out to both Kawa and Menufy, the company they use for online orders, and the Kawa employee was unhelpful and standoffish and just kept repeating "No." and nothing else. I'm not only disappointed by the waste of money, but even more so by the terrible customer service. I've been denied a refund for the bad food, and I haven't been offered a replacement order or even store credit for the future. read more

Still 5 stars for Kawa. Great dishes, great rolls and they've been doing a wonderful job with takeout throughout 2020. Sushi is always fresh and everything still tastes great when we get it home. TLDR: Slooooow service, warm fish that gave me a stomachache, watered down sake. In the neighborhood for a regatta and thought I'd have some sushi. Walking in I initially had high hopes as it seemed to have some traditional Japanese decor. They quickly faded as I waited just under 5 minutes at the "wait to be seated" sign without a greeting or even a smile from the two people behind the bar, even though I was the only person in the restaurant. Finally a gentleman came through from the back and directed me to a table, I asked to sit at the bar, (because that's actually what you're "supposed" to do at a good sushi spot) to which the gentleman sighed with disdain and said "you want to sit at the bar?". "Yeah, if that's alright" I replied, picked up on his annoyance. "You sit at this table" he replied curtly and disappeared into the back, never to be seen again. It was at this point I actually noticed something that should have registered as a huge red flag in a sushi bar: they had all sorts of crap piled up across the partition between the bar seating area and the food prep area; so you couldn't actually see what the "chefs" were doing. This lack of transparency is actually a big "no-no" in a sushi bar, BTW. While I sat there waiting to see waitstaff another customer walked in and asked for his pickup order. "OK, that explains it" I thought "this guy put in a huge order right when they opened and they're struggling to get it ready. "Just couple minutes" they told him and he took a seat and waited. 10 minutes later he got up and asked "is it gonna be much longer?" Which is what I was thinking about the the fact no one had even come to take my drink order yet. "Just couple more minutes" he was told. And about 3 or 4 minutes later he got his order... which from the size of the rolled up bag he was given, could've been a squished junior sized hamburger. Now I was back to being annoyed, as that was NOT the huge order I assumed had set them behind the clock. Just before the 15 minute mark of being seated a young lady came out to take my drink order. I was ready with my whole order by that time and convinced her to go ahead and take the whole thing. Oddly, even though she had an accent and poor English, she had to look at the menu with me to see what the items I was ordering in Japanese were. She came back with my water at which point I told her I'd also like to try their sake. "You want sahkey?" She said judgmentally, while pronouncing sake wrong. "Yes, please". She started to point to some bottles at the bar, and I told her I would just take the house sake. "You want it warm?" She asked. "Yes, please" I replied. 18 minutes later she returned and asked if I wanted more water. I smiled, and said "yes, and the sake please". "Oh you want sake?" She said as if surprised... "uh... yeah, house sake. Warm." She walked away without taking my water glass. Another 12 minutes later she came out with my order and decanter of sake (no water). I finished my order in less time it took for someone to greet me and waited another 12 minutes for her to ask if I was ready for my check. These wait times could be excused if the place was packed, but in the time I was there, only two other tables came in. The sushi was warm, which is wrong the temp of the sushi is very important, it's why you're not "supposed" to get sushi to go... just "slightly warmed from the hands of the chef", not "obviously been laying out in room temperature and then warmed further from an inexperienced chef" warm. The sake was quite obviously watered down as you could tell from the taste variance the water had mostly settled to the bottom. Beyond disappointing to the point of shameful. Do they think no one in a small rural town in Florida knows what sushi is supposed to be? Or do they actually just not know? I'm not sure, But Publix has better sushi (and that's saying something) and better service. My whole experience left me angry followed by an upset stomach a short time later. So I paid $50 (with a tip) to waste over an hour, be put in a bad mood and get a stomach ache; for those still reading this rant. DO NOT GO TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT! read more

I had to cut into with a steak knife, that Oozed out a white substance that loosely resembled cheesecake, without cheesecake flavor! Way to go Kawa! First piece of cheesecake that I didn't eat! Anywho, the sweet potato was vastly undercooked! It wasn't Al dente, it was raw! When I called the restaurant to explain that, the managers response it's fried... I get that it's fried, however the vegetable wasn't fried long enough to cook! The manager said she would make me another one, but I have to go there to eat it in the restaurant. I feel that is more of a punishment than a solution and I refused and she said "she's ok with it" and hung up! That's fine, chase away a person who was willing to give you a chance to fix it! So Kawa, seeing how you only had 3 paying patrons in your establishment at 8:30 on a Saturday night, I included myself in that number, while the surrounding restaurants were packed with patrons . Had good and not so much. Description online doesn't give much info. You think you're ordering one thing but it's not what you expect. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura but it wasn't the breaded shrimp I'm used to seeing. It was just stir fried shrimp. Rice had no sauce or given sauce to put over it. Miso soup was . But then nothing was what I was expecting. Even a spicy tuna roll wasn't what I was use to. Is the difference due to area I'm in now? Just popped in after this long lockdown FINALLY allowed limited opening for businesses. They have the full menu available for take out, having had a fresh delivery of all the supplies they needed the day before. I ordered a large array of rolls and sushi, plus a sashimi salad. Everything was so wonderful. Fresh, beautiful and tasty! My son and I chowed down like beasts, and are now full, happy and so very satisfied. They even accommodated our daughter's weird request for Maki without rice. lol Steve ordered the Lobster Roll and I know it was excellent because he didn't offer me even a bite to try. My Eel and Spicy Tuna Rolls were really, really good (probably the best I've had in Florida). Prices were excellent! Quality was great! I got the sashimi dinner and even though I'm not religious, I prayed to God and all the other gods I can think of that I don't get a gnarly parasite or food poisoning from my meal. It's been about 6 hrs and so far I think i'm ok.. But I have about 6 more hours until I'm really in the clear, at least for the violent vomiting and diarrhea portion of what could happen. I was told to come here on recommendation. I'm from here and was surprised and excited to hear of a sushi place opening up here so I brought my mom and daughter here. The service is awkward and the servers I had were unwelcoming and kind of awkward, but I can look past that if the food was decent, but unfortunately it sucked hard. The circled portion of my sashimi platter is what I didn't eat because it was rancid, even the wasabi and ginger was old and unappealing. What I did eat was questionable, the pieces were too big and had a bad texture to it. I feel so stupid for trusting a small place in citrus county with raw fish, but I thought I'd give them a chance. Shame on me, really. I sent back the other half of my dish, the server said he himself can see it was discolored and smelled bad, he told me he made the chef eat a piece which brought a smile to my face because how dare you put my life at risk by serving me rotten fish because you're too much a lazy a**hole to track the expiration date or even worse, didn't care? Anyway, the server took off %10 of bill, cool, thanks. Never coming back. On a side note, I did some digging on this restaurant. The owner keeps the servers tips, if I had known that I would have never come in here in the first place. Kawa is a great addition to the Downtown district in Inverness. The atmosphere is quaint and intimate. The lighting is low lit inside the restaurant which enhances the environment for a date night. The sushi bar is well decorated and the seating layout is comfortable. The restaurant is small so seating is very limited. The addition of outdoor seating was a fantastic touch to help reduce the wait times. I have had a couple dishes from Kawa and the food is fantastic. Well seasoned and high quality product was included in every dish. The restaurant is relatively new to the area and it is clear that they are still working out a few kinks with some of the wait staff. I believe that this restaurant has true potential in the downtown district once the miscommunication between team members is ironed out. read more

The food was amazing! A little pricy. If rated on the food alone, 4.5 to 5 stars for sure. The service sucked!! We had to keep telling the waiter what we were missing... the menus sat on the corner of the table for more than 15 minutes before they came to get them until they brought the food, one plate at a time and nothing was set in the right place.... the teen "busboy / servers" need some training to say the least. Brought me a plate for my sushi and reached it across the table right across my wife's face as she was taking a bite of her food.. very unprofessional for a place this good.
