This Sushi restaurant is well worth the visit. My wife and I ate here about a week ago and found the service and food excellent. The owner operators couldn't be nicer and spent some quality time telling us there journey to open their business. The 2 ladies are sisters and one husband runs the Sushi bar, the other the kitchen in the back. They are all REALLY nice people, who just want to give a high quality meal at a very reasonable price. Well they really hit the mark. The Sushi and Sashimi were the quality of Tony's Sushi but at half the price. My father who has never been to a Sushi restaurant really enjoyed the tempura rolls we ordered for him. My mother-in-law the chefs recommended rolls. My wife and I just had a bunch of different things. We all ate so much, I couldn't believe the bill for 4 people at a Sushi place was just under $100.00, this was appetizers and drinks included. There is no alcohol yet as they are waiting for their license. I don't often give 5 stars, but this place is small with no frills, but honest and great service and food. read more

I'm visiting from the Bronx where there's no good Japanese restaurant so I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered Akita. I had the Spider Roll, Salmon Roll and the Vegetable Gyoza, delicious. My sisters got the Salmon Hibachi which was also tasty and a good value. read more

I did not try Akita for quite a while because they are a strip mall restaurant. I know. I know. Shame on me. I am from a major metropolitan market and spoiled for food options. The rolls are lovely. I would put the ones I've tried on a par with those at the upscale Japanese restaurants in town. I want to try their sushi next. I believe the restaurant is presently accepting people in via reservation so they can manage capacity (at least that's what the sign on the door says). Sushi rolls were falling apart. The lettuce wrap was a head lettuce cut in half and put on the plate with a few thin slices of onions. The ground chicken...wasnt sure of the seasoning but it was red. Akita deserves an award for their customer service. I have eaten at the best restaurants ocala has to offer and Akita easily stands at the top. I dont have to ask for anything. They offer it. I use to have to go to one restaurant for hibachi and another for sushi and now i FINALLY can go to one place to get both. They use sushi rice for hibachi rice and most of the other places in ocala do not. Love the rice and noodles. To the people who complain about the prices ... sushi is not cheap to make. They have competitive prices for the area. Some people just have to complain. Lastly, i have eaten at Akita at least 15 times in the last few weeks and have been satisfied 100% of the time. Formerly Grace Sushi but under new management. Prices have increased dramatically and the usual choices are not on the menu. The three usual items that have been there for several years are not there. Example: 12 piece sushi that comes with miso soup, california roll and salad is not on the menu but if you want it everything is an extra charge. The current 10 piece on the menu with nothing extra is now more than the 12 piece one mentioned above on the old menu. I'm not going back any more and I have passed this info on to relatives and friends and church friends in the Citrus County area to NOT frequent this place any more. I have been enjoying this restaurant for the ten years since I first found it. I lived in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Bangkok and take it from me, I know what good sushi and hibachi are when exemplary. The prices are the most equitable you'll find anywhere, and denote the lack of greed in the owners/operators. I have YET to have had anything, ever, at Akita Sushi (formerly known as "Grace" sushi...) that was not properly prepared to the highest standards, and delicious. There are some esoteric menu items that are delightful surprises...too many to mention. But try the seaweed salad if you want a wonderful refresher. The Gyoza are very satisfying as a mezze as well. Sakes and beers are quite reasonable. There are numerous "deals" for lunch and dinner savings if you're appreciative of such offers. Take a thorough perusal of the menu before ordering; there are significant savings available through such offerings as the "Triple Sushi" entree. You have to search them out and do the math if your head. Yes they changed ownership and management a year ago; but I assure you the standards have been fully maintained, if not improved upon; I TRUST Akita Sushi. Akita has the best chicken katsu and excellent ginger dressing that they make themselves. The portions are great and I generally get two meals out of a single take-out order. Go at least twice each month. read more

This was our favorite sushi spot in Ocala before the new owners took over, so when it reopened we figured we would give it a shot, but haven't been back since our first visit. To start with a positive, the inside is very nice now. There is a lot more natural light coming in and the tables and chairs look much better inside. The rest of our visit, though, wasn't too great. The pricing was definitely a little higher, but we thought surely this would reflect in the quality of the food, but once we began eating we realized this wasn't the case. Our sushi was fine, but nothing exceptional. What really bothered me about our experience was how the new owners would not let us eat in peace. Every time a new dish was brought to our table she would wait for us to take a bite and ask what we thought, then discuss how much better the restaurant was now that she had taken it over. This restaurant had been transformed into an excellent cuisine. It is now called Akita, and is under new management. The food was delicious and the server was great. I had Hibachi and my wife had Teriyaki. Anyone who is disappointed because they changed the menu should give them a chance. We are definitely going back. read more

I seen the Male sushi maker sneeze and cough all over the sushi he was making he had no plastic gloves on , sniffing he had a bad cold after he finished sneezing coughing he proceeded to finish the meal without washing his hands. This little restaurant, formerly Grace Sushi and now under new management, has a lot of potential in terms of location in a large Publix shopping center with high visibility. Our dinner, however, was disappointing. The atmosphere was stark - bare tables and booths, no music or any attempt at decor and an overly zealous wait staff. The food was marginal; open only two months they did not have a liquor license but we were invited to BYO with beer or wine from Publix which we declined. Six of us tried an array of dishes from sushi to hibachi to tempura and all were edible but not special in any way. The house salads featured large chunks of iceberg lettuce and watery ginger dressing. It was more like eating in a mall or having Asian fast food instead of the carefully prepared and well presented food you'd expect in a small Japanese restaurant.
