My husbands favourite Middle Eastern food in Melbourne area. He's been to this restaurant many times and raved highly about it. We had goat shank: super yummy tender delicious fall of the bone meats, huge chunk of goat leg piece, layered on top of delicious fluffy and tasty flavoured rice. Served with chilled and yummy taziki and garlic sauce that paired deliciously with dish. We also got the chicken shawarma wrap, delicious tender meats, on warm lavash bread, and veggies. It's a very small space with a limited number of grocery items and about 5 tables. But the menu is extensive. We just stopped on our way to GA to have some lunch. First thing, the owner and the staff are very nice . We ordered falafel, Sheesh tawooq and chicken shawarma sandwishes. The location and atmosphere leave a lot to be desired. However, they serve generous portions, tender flavored meats, and are open super late. Seating is super limited, too. The staff are very friendly. Even though they get busy, I see that the guy at the front always takes the time to explain and go through the order/options, and doesn't rush the customer even if there are a line of people behind them. This place is more like a order-at-the-counter & sit-yourself type of place rather than a restaurant. Unless you want to dine there, you're better off placing your order ahead of time (if they tell you 15 mins, wait at least 20). Your food takes time to prepare and like their sign advertise, they're not fast food. That said, from what I've had, you do get value for money and then some. Unfortunately, some of their client base can make it a little uncomfortable. I don't know if it was just my luck, but it seemed to be aggressive bro night. The place doesn't seem to require masks, and a lot of customers just walk in face covering-free and without regard for social distancing (again, this is a tiny place and they get busy!). Guy behind me had neither mask nor regard for social distancing and seemed to be extra annoyed. He kept mumbling in a pissed off tone while directly behind me, ordinarily alarming enough but during COVID times, extremely concerning. He even tried skipping me to get to the counter first. I couldn't even pay without reaching over him since he decided to stand right in front of the counter despite the cashier ringing up my order. This is as authentic as you can get folks! If you like a ton of flavor in your food, try this one out. It seems to be more of a take-out than eat in type spot, plus they have specialty middle eastern grocery items, so it is very casual. We ate in, which was good because we weren't familiar with a lot of the food. Linda took care of us. She's very nice and suggested some kabobs. I had the chicken shish touk (probably the wrong spelling) and my fiance had a lamb dish with spicy rice. We tried some raspberry and pineapple malt drinks. We really liked everything we had! I ordered the 2pc BBQ chicken (it's Arab-style) with smoked rice and it was PHENOMENAL. The chicken was amazingly flavorful without being spicy (though you can change the spice level). If you're worried about two chicken leg quarters being too much, DON'T WORRY. The pieces aren't that large so it ended up being a good portion. Both the smoked rice w/ lamb shank and the meat (lamb) shawarma platter were generous portions of tender, flavorful, and delicious Middle-Eastern fare. This is my go to place for great middle eastern favorites and especially for late night food made from scratch! You will not find better food in Melbourne that you can order to go usually until 11:30 PM! I will warn you though that they only allow dine in until 8:30; after that you must order to go. And they've never had very good service for sit down dining. You should go to the counter and order & then they will bring it to your table. They don't have trained waiters; so don't go there expecting that, but go strictly for the food. I usually order late at night, to go & eat it in my van and am plenty happy to get such great food that late. My favorites here are the 1/2 'BBQ' chicken $13 which is grilled with a garlic sauce & comes with cucumber yogurt sauce, your choice of a side (fattoush salad, hummus, babaganoush or falafel balls and their excellent rice choices (usually 'smoked' rice or their white rice) that have nice spices in them. I usually add some of my own butter or olive oil into the rice. The skin on the chicken is the best part! I also love their tabouleh, kibbeh, babaganoush, falafel and baklava which they call 'sweets'. Sometimes I get their vegetarian platter which has hummus, babaganoush, grape leaves, tabouleh, falafel balls & tahini sauce. Their gyro is good too. If you want an extra yogurt cucumber side it's only .75. And they normally have the best house-made hot sauce I've ever had. Its not too hot and has a nice complexity of flavors. It's an extra .75, but lately they haven't been able to get all the imported ingredients they need to make it. It's great mixed into the rice, hummus or babaganoush. They may be closing for vacation in August for a month, so call before you go there. read more

Decided to give this place a try and we stopped in for lunch. When we entered we walked up to the front counter. We stood around for about 15 minutes which was ridiculous until a girl emerged. We asked if they had lamb available. She had no clue and headed to the kitchen. She emerged again and said yes they had lamb. How about a smooth and she gave some long winded explanation why they had no fruit available to make smoothies. I ordered a lamb gyro platter with hummus and salad. We went to a booth to discover the table top dirty and old leftover food on the seats. Its unforgivable to not have clean tables and seating. So we wiped it off ourselves. I then opened the wrapped silverware she gave us to discover my spoon was gross. I opted not to use it. It took a ridiculous amount of time to get our food. Seriously it's gyro, hummus, and salad. Not rocket science people. While we were waiting two guys came in sat down and waited 5 minutes and food arrived at their table. What is this???? So my gyro was good not great and really could have used some spice. It was kind of strange they cut it into several pieces. The hummus was very tasty and I enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed the spices and oil the mixed into it. The salad was tasty but nothing to write home about. I give it two stars for good food and take away three for a clueless order taker, lacking food stock, dirty eating areas, dirty utensils, and outrageously slow service. This is a small grocery store + a restaurant. Small but only a few tables, and we had a long wait if about 40 mins to get our food....but, the wait was worth it we thought. We were 4 adults and we ordered did enough for 4. Or so we thought. We had food left over and doggie bags to get back to our hotel. Ordered the chicken biryani was needed a little more of salt and lemon, but the flavor was perfect once it was added. The kabab platter for 2 was more than enough for the 4 of us. Went here for the first time today. I'll definitely be back! Starting to think this place is a hidden gem! I got the gyro platter with salad and hummus. The portion sizes were huge and I even had leftovers. I can't believe I'm gonna say it but the salad was the highlight. Very well dressed, seasoned, fresh, and delicious. The gyro was very good too and the hummus! My only complaint would be the tzaki sauce but maybe because I'm used to a different kind. You haven't lived till you've tried the smoked rice with slow roasted lamb shank from Al-Houda. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's possibly my favourite dish to eat in town, and what a HUGE portion of food! True to its name, the rice is smoky and so, so flavourful, while the lamb is fall-off-the-bone tender. Seriously, you could eat it with a spoon! It comes with onions on the side and a great yogurt sauce (quite similar to Indian raita) and everything just goes so well together! Honestly, the first time I ordered from here, this is what I got, and I've never wanted to try anything else since! It's quite popular, so they do run out some times. As for the service, I've only ever done takeout so I can't really comment, but everyone I've encountered (over the phone or when picking up my order) has been polite and friendly. Al-Houda Restaurant - Palm Bay - 5 Stars Hidden Gem Alert Wow, what a great find! It actually took me 24 hours to think of an opening to this review. Al-Houda is the kind of restaurant that is why I do this day in and day out, looking for that one special place, that one special morsel of food, that single flavor that makes you go....WOW!!!!! Well, it's all here at Al-Houda. Let me further preface that my father's side of the family immigrated from Syria at the turn of the last century, so I spent many years eating a wonderful surprise of authentic Middle Eastern dishes. Most Middle Eastern restaurants have Americanized the region's food, and it's so rare to find authentic recipes that I don't even look anymore. Given this history, it was with great joy and happiness that I found Al-Houda's cuisine. Now all is not perfect in Al-Houda land. For one, it is a very small dining area with limited seating. I also found out later this restaurant mainly caters to the Florida Tech Arab group, so their hours are cut back drastically during the summer. The lady who greets you, who I assume is an owner, has very little grasp of the English language, to put it mildly. If you are willing to try this amazing food you will need to either order what I ordered or be prepared to point. The menu has a half-hearted English explanation of each item. (See the menu photos). The server will not be able to espouse the great wonders that await you. Furthermore, they only serve bottled drinks. I chose an Aryan (pronounced R-yawn) yogurt drink which is essentially Middle Eastern buttermilk. It was quite good and addicting with a sour finish that is actually enjoyable. For the main meal, I ordered lamb kafta with baba ghnouj. The baba was made in-house. There were tiny chunks of eggplant you don't get from the distributor. I do not believe the Kafta was chef-prepared from scratch with fresh ingredients but it was high quality, better than I have found locally otherwise. The crowning dish I consumed was Molokhia, which is a chicken stew with greens. The morsels of chicken are so tender and juicy they should put a whole chicken in it. As I repeatedly tell my readers I am not a chef, but I know enough to tell you about execution and presentation. When it comes to ingredients, if they are non-standard I can't always discern exactly what they are. In this dish, I know there are greens they call jute. Beyond that and the chicken all I can tell you is it is one of the best flavor sensations I have ever experienced - I mean ever. This dish is so flavorful and enjoyable you can't stop eating it. The Big Boy wants you to stop and give Al-Houda a try. Whether you are a Middle Eastern cuisine veteran or virgin, I promise you won't be disappointed read more

Wednesday, February 1st, 2023. We placed an order for pickup via phone for 4 gyros. As I waited outside for my family member to pick up our order, it blew my mind to watch folks enter Little Caeser's like a revolving door for pizza meanwhile next door you can get authentic gyro sandwiches made fresh to order. The aroma in our car was on another level and we had zero self-control to wait and devoured our food. We love Al-houda's for dine in or take out. There is a short wait if you dine in but it's worth it as it's made fresh to order. We can't say enough great things about Al-houda or the workers and recommend it to all. We wish Al-houda's was on every corner like fast food chains because we'd eat there every time over all others for top notch middle eastern food. read more
