They give you a pretty healthy scoop of tabbouleh and hummus, and a good meat to rice ratio. The pita is warm and fluffy and you'll wish that you had more. Though I have never been to any Al Quick Stop location in person, I have been ordering from them through UberEats for quite a while. I always get the gyro plate and my boyfriend always gets the chicken schwarmas. I also tried the veggie plate once with eggplant and spicy potatoes and it was so good! Why I docked one star is because they used to give us the normal two sauces (tzatziki and garlic sauce), but now they require us to pay 70 cents for garlic sauce. I had heard about Al Quick Stop for years and finally made my way there for dinner on a Sunday. They have a couple parking spots on the side of the convenience store and we were able to find a spot. You place your order at the counter and then they call your name when your food is ready. You can also buy a drink from the convenience store and pay for all of it at the end in one transaction. I ordered the gyro sandwich and fries. They have a couple tables so you can dine there but it looks like most people grab-and-go or order through food-ordering apps like Uber Eats. We ended up eating there. Al Quick Stop lived up to the hype! This is what a gyro sandwich should be. The meat was flavorful and the pita was fresh. The fries were seasoned and tasty. I miss the days when it was 24 hours, but they make good food here, especially the gyro meat, one of the few places that doesn't seem to use the same spit from a Chicago factory that every other gyro place does. Five stars in person, four stars for delivery because they forget to pack stuff you've ordered. Some notable exceptions to the good food: the "gyro pitas" are much better than the regular pitas, which seem to be stored in a refrigerator and delivered cold and stale. I expected really good food for a fair price, but instead we got mediocre food with sit down restaurant prices in a convenient store atmosphere. Avoid ordering the Sampler Platter #1. It costs $10.99 (used to be $7.99) and isn't all that great. The sampler includes 2 Kibbehs, 2 Falafels, 2 stuffed grape leaves, tabouli, hummus and pita. First of all, the pita arrived cold and very stale (not sure why they wrapped it in foil). My girlfriend and I had a hard time tearing it apart. It had the tensile strength of beef jerky but the hardness of an old cracker. It was thin and very hard to chew because of the staleness. I wouldn't recommend this to elderly people or babies to eat this because it can be a hazard. As for the sampler: Kibbeh was a bit dry, falafels were flavorless, tabouli was ok but acidic, and the stuffed grape leaves were plain. The only thing I liked was the hummus. Can't go wrong with hummus! We ordered fries ($1.50) along with our meal as well. It's made from frozen and seasoned. Overall, the fries were ok but I had better elsewhere. What helped salvage the dinner was the gyro sandwich. It's a bit expensive for just a convenient store gyro (costs $6.75 and used to be $4.50), but none the less, it was good. The gyro is the ONLY hero here. I would never come here again. Located in a convenience store, Al's Quick Stop is easy to miss. This platter came with 2 grape leaves (interesting tasting, a bit too sour for my taste), 2 falafels (very bland, came with sauce but was extremely mediocre), 2 beef kibbeh (the beef was super dry, flavor was just okay), a small serving of tabbouleh (wow, not good. super acidic), and a small serving of hummus with pickle slices (weird with the pickles, hummus was mediocre). I wouldn't have paid $2.99 for this, much less the actual price of $10.99. The Worst: The pita that came with the hummus. Imagine a cold and stale tortilla. How stale? My boyfriend had trouble tearing this pita. The pita dust flew everywhere (see picture) when we tore the thing. Part of my pita literally cracked off (pita is suppose to be warm and fluffy yall) another piece and fell to the floor. We were worried someone would step on it and cut their feet. Hands down, worst "pita" I've ever had. The One Good: The gyro with lamb and beef. Super juicy meats. Came out piping hot in a fluffy pita. I can see why this place has high reviews - if ONLY for this gyro. The flavor was all there. If you come here, get this and this only. Basically, don't come here. I'd heard the gyros from this place were great so I'd meant to give it a try. Little did I know I would end up trying it during the Snowpocalypse that caused much of Houston to lose power and water...we came to AL Quick Stop when they didn't have any power; they remained open even without electricity. They were above and beyond in helping the folks around the area, selling bottled water to people who didn't have running water. They also had canned foods in their convenience store, which is perfect for anyone prepping their emergency supplies for a storm. I'd come in the store for bottled water, but since they also had gas they were still making gyros! I got a gyro and it was just as great as I'd heard. I got the Kafta Kabob Plate for only $11 and it lasted me for two meals. The Kafta was very flavorful and went well with the hummus as well as the garlic sauce. The rice was more of a mexican style rice, but that makes sense since they have some TexMex options, so it wasn't bad just different from the traditional mediterranean style rice that typically goes with this meal. I stumbled upon this place years ago when I lived down the street. Who would have thought that a gyro from the corner store deli would rival that of Niko Niko's. If you are looking for a reasonably priced mediterranean food this is a good place to go to. It is inside of a little corner store. It is counter service and when there is not a pandemic, you can sit outside at several of their out door seating, or inside there are a few tables (they have recently removed them due to Covid-19 restrictions) The gyro meat here is incredible, Als diced salad is refreshing, and the dips are all refreshing and taste home made. You order at the deli counter, pick your drink or sides/desserts (chips, candy, typical corner store stuff) and pay at the cashier counter. The staff here is very kind and has been working here for as long as I remember, its always the same faces and that feels great. They have also installed a large plexiglass type barrier between you and the cashier so it feels like there is a little more protection.
