two burgers in a styrofoam container

I ordered the Lam Shawarma with a couple sides of Falafels. I enjoyed them both. The lamb was tender and well seasoned and I love the buffet of fresh ingredients you can pick and watch them put on right in front of you. The Falafel was also very well prepared. It was fresh and soft on the inside and crispy on the outside...just the way it is supposed to be. The place was clean and bright and the staff are friendly. The only thing I would point out is that it is on the higher end pricing for the category of such type of food. $15 for a shawarma, but again dining out in Vancouver has really gone up everywhere. I would rather pay more for great food than pay less for shitty food! :/

Falafel & Veggie Platter + Dessert

For whatever reason, this shop has always intrigued me and I finally gave it a try. Got the Falafel Platter. I thought their falafel was pretty good - cool that is has sesame seeds encrusted - the salad was fresh and bright, and whatever they're doing to heat up the pita is working wonders in making it taste fresh. The hot sauce had a very distinct taste though that wasn't inherently bad but was out of place with the dish - I don't know what it actually was, but it tasted a lot like Frank's. Otherwise it's your average donair. I found it very filling and worth the price of $16. I like that they give you a place if you eat in instead of a box - even if the plate is still disposable, it's less waste and a nicer experience. Something unique about this cafe that most donair shops don't have is the selection of desserts. They have what looked like a few different baklava, kunafa, and some things I didn't recognize. The dessert I got was one those that I didn't know the name of but looked good to me, it had a pistachio filling and white "crust" that tasted like coconut. Really tasty. Also not too messy on my fingers like some of these syrupy desserts can be. The staff makes the order in front of you and will ask your preferences on sauces, and if you have ingredients you want taken out you can let them know. The people making the food were "businesslike" but I didn't find them to be rude at all. The person who seemed to be in charge was thanking customers as they were leaving which is nice. The place is very clean and modern, and there's also a few tables out front. The online listed hours say they close at 7, but I came in close to 8 on Saturday and was far from the last person to order, so they're definitely open later at least sometimes, but I can't find an updated listing of their hours anywhere.

Poor service and average food. My friend and I came in after a Whitecaps game about a week ago. There were a few other customers seated and a couple others in front of us ordering. I found the staff to be unfriendly and the ordering process needlessly confusing. It was not clear whether we were supposed to place our order and choose the veggies and then pay or vice versa. Upon asking we were barked instructions at rather than told how it works. As for the food itself it was nothing special and if anything quite flavorless. Not particularly cheap nor too expensive but I've definitely had better shwarma for $5 at my favorite spot in Hastings sunrise. The restaurant has seating for about 15 to 20 people and varying options :falafel, shawarma, various plates; lamb, chicken and beef all available. They have a pretty good selection of vegetables, as well as hummus, hot sauce and all the things you would expect. That said do not expect the staff to speak or understand English as in our limited interaction they simply could not communicate with us properly. Would not recommend.

Food isn't bad, but you'll feel cheated by their portions despite being charged a premium for this type of "fast food." Too many great restaurants on this block for me to repeat my lacklustre experience. I frequently walk past this joint on Robson and tried their beef plates and shawarma over a year ago and couldn't remember why I never went back. I love Persian/Middle Eastern food and had a craving for kebobs, so I thought I'd give this Iraqi version a shot. After placing my order I quickly remembered why I hadn't gone back - unfriendly staff, poor value & unmemorable food. Get the shawarma if you find your friends eating there or if you just want something other than pizza after a night of drinking downtown. Their shawarma are poor value but their dinner-plates are highway robbery compared to similar cuisines down the street and nothing to write home about. I ordered the Double Shish Kabob ground beef Platter at the counter. It comes up to $14.69 after taxes and there's an option to tip before you receive or eat your meal. It looks like a fast food joint but I'm told it'll be 20 mins for my plate. Long waits are customary in Vancouver anyway so why not? I take a seat and "people watch" out their window facing Robson St. One of the employees did a quick wipe of the windows, counters and table tops while I was ordering & the dining area reeks of Windex. The place is loud! There's some kind of grinding or drilling going on in the back. I'm not sure if they're renovating or carving frozen meat but no one seems conscientious towards the customers. The noise drowns out the foreign music playing on their Internet-connected, international TV-box. The 2 guys that are plating the meals behind the counter are wearing latex gloves are stoic and give zero free smiles. The taller one signals for me to come over and pick up my plate. Before I picked it up I had to ask him for hot sauce and a bit of tabouli. He scooped it like I was taking his portion. The plate was underwhelming. It didn't taste terrible but I can't find a reason to ever go back with so many better options down the street. There's no wow factor taste-wise and their portions are embarrassingly tiny. One scoop of basmati rice, 2 mouthfuls of salad, 2 skewers of ground meat and a quarter of a pita, served on a paper plate eaten with tiny plastic utensils. I appreciate rents are probably high on Robson, but this stinginess will lose repeat customers. Their prerogative if they want to be the shawarma nazi but they're going to need a superior product or maybe give a generous scoop of rice or salad, or more than just a quarter of a pita even, which is a drop in the bucket cost-wise compared to the measly serving theyre dishing out on a thin paper plate. I was still hungry after that 4-minute meal but couldn't justify spending any more money in there after waiting 20+ minutes for fast food. You can get a huge and delicious lamb shank dinner with a generous helping of dill rice, salad and a "whole" pita for $13 tax included on Granville Street that's roughly a 5-minute walk. I didn't read the reviews on Aladdin until after I posted this and have now seen others have had similar experiences. Oh well... on to the next one.

See.., that's a decent amount of meat right there.

I've got to disagree with most of the negative reviews, I think the shawarma wraps here are pretty delicious.. Firstly to address some of the common negatives on here: Unfriendly service: agreed, but I don't really care either when buying wrapped meat to go. It certainly isn't going to ruin my day. Falafel: No idea if it's good or bad. Onto the delicious Shawermas. You get a really generous amount of meat and decent additions/toppings. Someone mentioned odd tasting dill pickles. That'd be because that isn't dill pickles. There's a different type of pickle as well as traditional pickled turnip (the pink one). Both zesty and delicious (neither of which are dill pickles). Yes they're a bit moody, but my happy stomach outweighs my hurt feelings.

It would have been nice to have some Arabic or oriental music playing in the background. Maybe also some rose saboun in the bathroom would have been nice!! (Ok I'm overdoing it...just sharing my two cents!) Overall food was good, but I think service could be improved. We ordered the cold mezze sampler platter for 3, and we were a party of 4 adults. The portion was good and everything was delicious. I'm GF, and they serve the dips with lettuce for free (or you can order a side of cucumbers for a small charge). The presentation was lovely. The only thing I didn't like was after a while all of the dips just get mushed together and you kinda don't know what you're eating anymore...Also we all loved the jalapeno hummus the most. We asked for arak and it wasn't served the right way...Our server forgot to bring an extra empty glass so that we can mix the arak with water (in the proportional way that we'd like). I asked for an empty glass for mixing in addition to another drinking glass because mine was broken (crack was big and the glass should be chucked out). Server forgot to get an empty mixing glass. We ordered a taouk pita wrap, but we got served a taouk platter instead. Anyhow she just wasn't very attentive. The mixed grill mezze platter was mostly yummy except for the kafta. All of us at the table couldn't have more than a bite of it. The meat was undercooked, and the taste of the lamb was too strong and off. Definitely didn't taste like the kafta we know. The chicken and the cauliflower were delicious. I'd be tempted to try Nuba at another location and sample other things off their menu. Happy eating!!

From the moment we sat down, the experience was something special. They start you off with warm, grilled bread alongside a gorgeous pool of fresh olive oil, and here's the touch that sets the tone for the whole evening: the oregano garnishing that oil is cut tableside from a live plant. It's a small detail, but it tells you everything about how much this kitchen cares. We went all in on the menu and have zero regrets. The spread platter was outstanding, multiple dips, beautifully presented with soft bread, each one distinct and well-crafted. The warm marinated olives were rich and aromatic, the kind of thing you keep reaching back into. The calamari was perfectly fried, light, crispy, served with a creamy tzatziki dipping sauce. For mains, the whole lobster with fries was a showstopper, generous, fresh, and served with clarified butter and a tangy sauce. The halibut was elegant and delicate, plated with roasted vegetables and large capers in a way that felt genuinely refined. The cocktails and drink program held up beautifully throughout the meal too. This is the kind of restaurant that makes a night feel like an occasion. The food is thoughtful, the ingredients are clearly quality, and the atmosphere delivers. And Yuri, our waiter, was absolutely fantastic. If you're on the fence because of that rating -- ignore it. I popped in & walked around checking out the setup & noticed the freshness & cleanliness right away. I like the decor as well - neat high tables & wood finishing. DS is still a baby - having just opened up 3 months ago. I met the boss & we chatted up a storm. He's a cool guy who's been in Vancouver for over 10 years - originally from Turkey! Ok - you had me at Turkey!!! He recommended the chicken Doner & wow oh wow did this taste of heaven go down or what. The tender halal chicken & Tabouli salad & ingredients as well as added sauces including hot sauce - Mama Mia!!! Heads up for anyone popping in over the next few weeks - the boss has plans for Kebabs & is strategizing how to work in a new grill etc etc. He's real excited about this venture & said I have to come back at the end of February when he hopes to have completed setting up. How we got here: my lunch appointment went long and I was hungry, needed to grab something quick before the next meeting. I had seen a sign somewhere in the area for a lovely Greek gyro previously. I wasn't able to find the sign/restaurant I had seen previously. We walked past this place and while I was trying to figure out whether or not they offered a Greek gyro, one of the workers there essentially pulled us in off the street and put a menu in front of us. They have so many images-everywhere it was a bit of a challenge to figure it out quickly. I saw the shaved lamb on the right of the "cooking area" so I figured I would get what I was asking for. In the restaurant, that was basically empty at lunch, I figured out why he grabbed us, they are probably desperate for business. They also charged us like we were the only paying customers. Most places offer a lunch combo meal, gyro, drink and fries for a single low price but our order of two combos was nearly $60!!!! I have receipt!!! (See attached). What we got was definitely not shaved lamb. The meat was chunky, beef stew LIKE meat and as I am unfortunately eating this as I write this review I can't tell you it tastes AWFUL!! They probably get this s#it cheap!!! On it, was some kind of sauce, also not tzatziki. As they are Persian and not Greek I suspect they don't even know what tzatziki sauce is! You can tell from the pictures the sauce isn't right, the vegetables don't look fresh, the bread is stale The $7 order of fries is disgusting as well. I wanted to treat myself to ordering lunch out. I will NEVER patronize this place again, I dare call it a restaurant, it should be permanently closed. I think I have to vomit now to save myself! Please consider this WARNING a gift. My time is EXTREMELY VALUABLE and I don't have time for this kind of food crime or BS. I call FRAUD!!! (I was going to post a photo of what a gyro should look like so you could easily compare but decided against it because I didn't want there to be any confusion about what you will actually get when you dare to eat here!)
