Pleasantly surprised I was! I was not expecting this much delightfulness in my mouth - Doner Stop rocked it for me! On a real whim moment - a friend I was going into town with was carrying on past this joint & said - hey you have to try this Doner - it's good. Oh why not - I said. I popped in & walked around checking out the setup & noticed the freshness & cleanliness right away. I like the decor as well - neat high tables & wood finishing. DS is still a baby - having just opened up 3 months ago. I met the boss & we chatted up a storm. He's a cool guy who's been in Vancouver for over 10 years - originally from Turkey! Ok - you had me at Turkey!!! He recommended the chicken Doner & wow oh wow did this taste of heaven go down or what. The tender halal chicken & Tabouli salad & ingredients as well as added sauces including hot sauce - Mama Mia!!! Heads up for anyone popping in over the next few weeks - the boss has plans for Kebabs & is strategizing how to work in a new grill etc etc. He's real excited about this venture & said I have to come back at the end of February when he hopes to have completed setting up. I had the chicken rice plate and it was good. The portion was decent (huge if you are not hungry). It was filled with plenty of fresh veggies, including eggplant. Yums. The chicken doner was one of the best I had so far. It was flavorful on its own, with a slight crisp on the edges of the meat. It was not dry and was just right. I got to try several of the sauces and my favorite would be the garlic tzatziki and the cilantro. I didn't really like the doner sauce which was essentially ketchup, mayo and mustard. It was too rich for me. It is a self serve place, where you place the order and then wait to pick up the food. Feta cheese was extra cost which was not stated up front when the staff asked if I want it. That is a bit sneaky I feel. read more

Great alternative to McDonald's and Burger King when one has the munchies at night. Parking is almost non-existent here. Granville becomes a tow-away zone at night. Not to mention they close off the streets. For $6-7 one can have a decent sized donair (Middle Eastern sub). They were very generous on the toppings. The only complaint I have is that the bun seemed like something out of Safeway. Maybe I'm missing something. The place does have a bit of a sketchy feel, with all the interesting characters in there on the weekend. The place used to be a Megabite Pizza, and the new owners obviously didn't spend too much on the renovations. With that said, I'm sure I'll be back here at some point. read more

I stopped by here for a chicken donair and was pleasantly surprised that it came with free french fries! The donair is large and loaded with toppings. The pita bread was literally stuffed with toppings. This place reminds me of Subway in that you pick your meat, and then you pick the vegetables to stuff in the donair. Lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, sauce etc. This is probably one of the healthier fast food options around Granville when you are going to or leaving a club. The donair stop actually offers a lot of value in that it also gives you a free side of fries with their donair. Both are good. Ambiance wise, it passes. For some reason the decor reminds me of a 50's diner. Maybe it's the paint scheme or the fact that this location may have been a diner in the 50's. (I remember seeing vintage photos of Vancouver in this location and I recall seeing the sign of a sandwhich shop in this exact corner on Granville.) It's worth checking out and with the fries included, I would almost stick my neck out to say that this is probably one of the best bangs for your buck for food downtown. read more

Alright, I am a sucker for spicy and well seasoned food. This is a tiny grab and go (or sit down if you want) kind of place. I had the falafel donair and my mother the lamb donair, with all the fixings and sauces we wanted. They were both extremely good, fresh and the service was friendly. Don't expect a fancy ambience and in my opinion one donair is good for two people (they are huge!). So split one, if you are still hungry order another one, takes less than a minute to get them done. Probably the worst Döner In town, had the chicken wrap, was awful, not in a pita bread but for some reason in a tortilla. Hummus is salty and low grade. Chicken is dry and has bad seasoning. Also had the falafel appetizer, falafel was uneatable, was hard, taste nothing that reminds of a real middle eastern falafel. This place was great. I had the beef and lamb wrap, while my wife had the falafel wrap. Both were amazing. The fries were great too, especially when dipped in the garlic ketchup. Not sure what explains the low reviews at this place other than people being straight up picky and complaining about things like no parking. To that I say duh...any fast food place in the middle of any large city is not gonna have good parking. Don't blame the restaurant for that. read more

Donair Stop .....Best Falafel Ever! Donair Stop is a tiny Mediterranean, Turkish restaurant that serves up the best falafel I've ever had. I wandered in last night and ordered the falafel plate which came with rice, warm pita bread, hummus, fresh home made tabbouleh, and those great tasting falafel. They've only been open three weeks but Turkish owner Lateef (his name means "friendly") makes everything fresh, from scratch, by hand just the way his family did back in Turkey. At 898 Grandville St. (corner of Grandville and Smithe I think) Donair Stop may not look like much from the outside, a few tables, the usual overhead lighting, etc. but it's clean, friendly, very reasonably priced and the food is just great. This place has a great deal for a salad bowl with meat. You get to pick any of the vegetables and dressings you want with fresh cooked meat or falafel on it as well. Staff is nice and the new location has a nice ambience to it. Prices are fair for Granville St. read more

Although this place looks great from the outside and open late we thought this place was pretty low quality. The chicken was fine, if a little salty, but the beef/lamb was so dry it was nearly inedible. I was also a little annoyed that on the menu it appeared that the wrap was 5.00 but it was in fact 9.00 when I saw the receipt. I also asked for extra sauce and was denied-- after our group spent $40 already on food?? Seemed unnecessary. Go elsewhere for your late night food cravings. read more

The food was not good but what I found not okay is that we got a rice bowl, which comes with dolmas (canned) and pita (hard), and we had to ask for both of our sides. It also says on the menu that it'd come with 5 pieces of falafel and it came with just 4. Which ended up being fine because the falafel was not good and I couldn't even eat what they gave me. So here I am eating a wrap I just paid over 9 bucks for, which is nearly 100 % vegetables. I can't speak to the flavour of the meat, as there isn't enough. I saw a lot of good reviews for this place, and it's literally a 2 minute walk from my hotel (the belmont) so i had to check it out. I got the chicken doner with all the usual fixings. Being from edmonton, i'm used to a lot of east coast style donairs, but what i ate today was very different and so much more fresh and flavourful, i don't know what i'm going to do when i go back home! The medium spicy sauce was tangy creamy tomato, along with sweet citrusy sauce, and a whole bunch of vegetables i could not tell you the name of, but a lot were pickled and could tell they were fresh! Very delicious, and for the price of the combo ($14) you get fries and a drink, but a standard döner is $10. I would give this place 5 stars, but i realized when i got back to the hotel that they forgot my fries with my combo which was kind of a bummer, but the quality and taste completely alleviated that. Calling all Veggies, this is a gem hiding in plain sight. Sure the pricing is a little bit more than it would be some lower rent spot, but you get a lot for your money here and it's all super fresh and delicious. $9 bought a wonderfully large salad with warm chicken for my friend and for me a very tasty falafel. The counter staff is friendly and very helpful for those new to the mediterranean style of food. Obviously there is a wide range of food choices on Granville (there's a McDonald's across the street for those of you who like your food processed), but there aren't many other choices as healthy feeling as this little Döner stop. It's basically a take-out spot, but wandering the Granville scene with a little Döner is never a bad thing. read more
