One girl was working the place early on a Sunday; she was super nice though a bit busy. We got both a lamb and chicken donar and some garlic/parmesan fries. Having had donars and shawarma and the like many times before these weren't even in my top 10, though they weren't terrible by any means. I felt the pita wraps were a weak spot. Would be better if these were made or acquired fresh. Sauces weren't that spicy or flavorful. The lamb was really good but the supporting cast of ingredients was just average. Got into town late and wanted to grab a quick bite to eat. At 11pm, there aren't many options around Century Plaza Hotel, so I decided to actually check to see if Donair Dude is just as good while sober as it is when inebriated. Yeah, it's legit. When I got there, the street was pretty dead. It was a Monday night so makes sense. But, I'm never a fan of eating fast food when it's slow because it means the food has been sitting there awhile. Once it was all wrapped up and pressed...it didn't really matter. It was delish - such a great balance of textures and flavors. I'm a fan of gyros and shwarma wraps - those ain't got nothing on donairs. Actually, it did. It's the reason for 4 stars rather than 5. Go there at a decent hour and you'll likely get fresher food that is OMG good. How to do it right: Grilled Pita Wrap. (c'mon - tortillas are for Mexican food!) + Garlic and Hummus Spread + Chicken + Beef (BF got lamb, too, when we came here for the first time) + Onions + Tabouleh (trust me on this one) + Red/Purple Radish or whatever those Lebanese/middle eastern garnishes are called + Tzatziki Sauce + Feta Cheese (because Cheddar is for hamburgers!) The sandwich is massive. Props to anyone who can eat the whole thing in one sitting. When all is said and done, this is a place to check out while visiting Vancouver. Well the Grilled Chicken Pita Donair was so the opposite of that and I LOVED it !! On mine I have -hummus -red pepper paste -tabouli ( extra ) -lettuce -pickles -black olives -feta cheese Sometimes I also get extra meat as well. I don't get any sauce on it and it's perfect for me. After trying it for the first time, I was hooked on Donair's offerings. Since then, I would try to find the closest Donair Dude whenever I am outside and feel like eating. I once chanced upon the Donair Dude at Granville street after school and have been returning to this place since. Let me tell you, I have tried several Donair stores, but this one just hits right. The store is well maintained, and the staff is friendly & helpful. They don't hold back in giving the quantity of meat you actually paid for, unlike others who do that. They're good, and great size for the price, but one of biggest pluses of this place is that they have Halifax style donairs on the menu. I first learned of this glorious invention years ago when I lived in Halifax for school. I have family out there still, so when I visit it's one of the first things I eat. If you're unfamiliar with a Halifax style donair, it consists of donair meat, onion, tomato and a thick, sweet, creamy sauce that is allegedly made with condensed milk, vinegar, and garlic powder, all wrapped in a pita. It may not sound that great, but they're delicious, especially after a night of drinking. So back to Donair Dude. They didn't quite nail it, but it's a pretty close facsimile and does the trick when a craving arises. I've only ever ordered from here through Uber Eats so I can't attest to their service, although they did draw a smiley face on one of the bags. This was my favorite Donair spot for both my trips to Vancouver in the last year. I got a pita wrap with beef and chicken. What's nice about this place is there are numerous options of spreads, sauces, veggies, and cheese to add. It all gets wrapped in a big pita that looks like a mini pillow when it's all stuffed. We just stumbled across this place by accident, just parked in (Downtown?) Vancouver and walked around and found this place. I don't know what made us stop in it just happened organically and so glad we found this place. Got the Grilled pita donair, its pretty much like a subway sandwich of Mediterranean food. You get to choose between chicken, beef or lamb then a spread, veggies and sauces. I chose chicken with garlic spread, all of the veggies except pineapple and turnips and hot sauce. It was HUGE, they pack all the stuff into the pita and then put it under a panini grill. So good, it was a large portion and reasonably priced, i really liked the garlic spread and hot sauce combo, and they also put Tabouli in it too which i think adds a lot to it. We liked it so much that on our way back from Whistler to the airport we also stopped in again and luckily there was a lunch special where you get a Pita Donair and a drink for cheaper than just the pita during regular "non lunch hours" Bonus! It was a great find. If I ever make it back to Vancouver i'll be back for sure! This location at this time is one of the best as it has a practical price and the older style of shaved off rotisserie meat (as opposed to the pre-shredded style). Oh my goodness this hit the spot! My wife and I were visiting Vancouver for like the hundredth time and finally wandered around this area. I must say, I Yelp'd this one and was not disappointed at all. The donair was huge and really sticks with you. The rest of the day was spent snacking just because we couldn't justify a full on meal. For a few bucks you get to fill up a giant pita bread with meat, veggies, sauce, and whatever else they have for you to stuff in there. Then they press it like a panini until it's nice and crisp on the outside. One bite and I just wanted to go back for another. Everything worked so well and, while it's probably not the case, it felt healthy-ish. We didn't get any sides, but with the combo we managed to get a couple bottles of water. Coming from Berlin, the Döner ("donair" ??) here are a little disappointing.. I had a falafel pita wrap. The falafel were microwaved right in front of me and then made to order with lots of veggies and sauces and cheeses. I'm addicted. My sister found this place when she was visiting town. Said something about it being a great value. Boy she wasn't kidding! You get a football of absolutely delicious food and a drink all for $7.38 (including tax) during their lunch time special which now goes till 5 pm. And that's the price with cheese which is an 1 dollar up charge! This is the best value for food in the city. Their chicken pita, which I order fully loaded, is so delicious it gives me cravings. On top of that I'm left so full i can barely move afterwards. Its prepared to perfection every time. I've found myself eating here 3 days a week and still not getting sick of it. The staff is friendly, fast, and efficient. The place is clean. I cannot say enough good things. If you haven't already done so go and try it. read more

The doners here are very, very big -- enough to feed two people and they are a great value. We got the chicken donair with the spicy spread, almost all the veggies (even pineapple), with tzatziki sauce. However, there was very little meat in it. I really wanted to like Donair Dude a lot so that it could become my new lunch spot, but sadly, it wasn't up to par for me. I usually go get my donair 3 stores down from Donair Dude at Mr. Greek Donair Town but decided to give Donair Dude a try. The donairs at Donair Dude are HUGE. My meat to vegetable ratio was around 7:3. I couldn't taste any of the sauces I saw them put in because of the amount of meat packed into the donair. I personally am not a huge meat eater nowadays so I would rather my met to vegetable ratio closer to 5:5 or even 4:6 with vegetables being the 6, but I'm sure larger men would appreciate their huge meat quantity in their donair. Their shop is nice and clean, and the servers wear gloves and greet you with a smile. It's definitely a great donair place but personally I think I'll stick with Mr. Greek down the block. read more

(Donairs are practically the third religion of Halifax, after RC and CofE, and they are the official food - or is it just sandwich? - of Halifax.) Still, very filling and as a brunch time treat the last time I was in Vancouver, kept me full until hours later that night when I got back home to Oakland. Been here 50+ times as I live nearby. That in itself is a good review. Be warned though that this place is somewhat erratic. The staff changes constantly, and some are much better than others. This place has served me both the best and near-worst donairs I've eaten in the whole Lower Mainland. Generally they lean towards best though. Very clean shop on a rather dingy strip of Granville, so that's a definite plus. Quantity is always enormous - I once got a donair so huge that I took it home and was compelled to weigh it on my kitchen scale. Turned out to be 2 lbs, 6 oz. Quality is also generally great, but occasionally the veggies are old and grim. Take a look at them before selecting, at least if you're in at an odd hour (i.e. not lunch/dinner rushes or late night). The meat is always good, and they certainly don't skimp. Calories for money is 5 stars +. Ate an almost two pound Halifax style while writing this review, and am covered in sauce up to my elbows. It was so good that I'm tempted to bump this review up to five stars, but am still annoyed that they swapped out their banana peppers for jalapeños, so four stars it is. Important note for those who know and care: their "Halifax Style Pita Donair" isn't really what it claims to be, but it's a pretty fine substitute. If you're a Maritimer or an Albertan longing for the donairs you grew up eating at 3 AM, get a Halifax Style, make sure they go hard on the garlic paste and sweet sauce, and you'll feel better about the world. It's not quite right but it's very good. (Further note: if anyone who reads this review knows where to get a proper Halifax donair, or even a proper Edmonton donair, anywhere in the Lower Mainland, please comment. I've been to dozens and dozens of places, and haven't seen one - generally I am served a shawarma variant, which can be truly great, but just isn't a donair. It's bizarre - there must be enough displaced Maritimers here to support a true donair joint, but nobody seems to get it. I'm a displaced Albertan, and grew up eating Edmonton-style donairs, which are a mutant variation of true Halifax donairs, but there aren't even any places around that serve those, despite all the thousands of displaced Albertans kicking around. I heard a number of people recommend to eat here, so I decided to give it a try last week for lunch. They have lunch specials which basically gets you a donair and a pop for about $8. I opted for the lamb donair. To the point it was delicious and VERY filling. They really pack in the ingredients but not to the point where it would burst out the other end. In fact, for a donair it is as clean and sturdy as it can get. It did leak a bit towards the end but that was expected. The store is surprisingly very clean and everything is well labeled inside. End of the 2nd night - I've never heard of donair and figured it was a uniquely Vancouver thing that was really a middle eastern/halal thing. We were walking around Granville street and figured we didn't want to go anywhere and headed on home - but before we did we walked into this extremely bright restaurant that sells donair. Donair is essentially a pita wrap with the normal pita stuff - but suddenly magic happens after they finish putting your food in it - they wrap it closed (somehow) like a burrito - and throw it under a panini press and grill it from the outside! After it comes out it's piping hot and delicious to all the normal Halal specifications - but truly it's drunk food and only ok at the very best.
