Seems like a typical hole-in-the-wall shawarma place. I've passed by so many times but just tried it for the first time. I had the Vegetarian Plate. For the most part, the items in the dish were just of average quality (except the tzatziki, which was amazing), but all the different items that the dish included really made this for me. I don't think I've ever seen dolmathes, spinach pie, and falafel (in addition to the usual platter fixings) all offered as part of the same dish before, and I love to try a little of everything, so this was a dream. Good sauces too. I wouldn't recommend this place to get the best falafel or whatever in the city or anything like that, but it's a very good value for the money. I do wish they had a different kind of plate used for dine-in, since the plastic takeout container that the dish was served in had lots of grooves that made it hard to get all the little pieces of rice and salad. The man working was also super nice and asked lots of questions to make sure all the dressings were to my liking, and let me get tzatziki instead of hummus in the plate. I can't believe it's taken me this long to try Babylon cafe even though I work only a couple blocks away. I finally came here after following my nose over to a coworker's desk. She was having the chicken salad (shawarama-style chicken on a bed of greek salad) and highly recommended it, so I decided to try the same dish. The chicken salad is huge and flavorful and had all the components that I loved - crispy roasted chicken, spicy sauces on top, fresh salad. Pretty much a shawarma but without the wrap. They give you a lot of food, and for that it's a great price. I can see why this place is busy. While waiting for my salad, I watched them prepare a falafel and chicken plate. They really pile on the ingredients, and their falafels look fresh and big. Up until now, I've only been going to Nuba for falafels, but I will definitely be back at Babylon to try theirs! read more

This used to be the Best place, but prices have gone way up (increased several times in one year) and portions have gone down, smaller portions served at higher prices. Since around 6-8 months something changed and between higher cost and smaller portions, I no longer go there after having been a daily customer almost every other day. Pretty great shawarma offerings! The joint is TINY in that it's usually full during weekdays after seating maybe...10 people or so? That said, the beauty of this little hole in the wall is that it's located so close to the law courts that you can just bring your eats to Robson Square to chow down on! Came here for the first time about a week and a half ago. Can't believe I've never came here before. It's sort of your typical hole in the wall style donair/shawarma place. I had the lamb shawarma plate. It comes with pita bread, salad, hummus, and a potato. It's a great value for what you get, and tastes great too. I don't know if this is run by the same people who used to run the Babylon Café on Robson (right about where Old Navy is now, if I remember correctly), but as my sweetie and I were walking past it and reminiscing about the old place, one of the cooks saw us looking in, smiled, and opened up the shield on one of the rotisseries so we could admire the shawarma. As it happens, we had already eaten, but with an attitude like that, we just had to go back the next day. In order to keep to my low-carb diet, I had to pass up so many wonderful things (pita, rice, potatoes, and -- sob -- hummus), but the Greek salad topped with chicken shawarma reminded me (as if I could ever forget) why I love this cuisine so much. It didn't take any convincing to get my sweetie in there, either. She'd had the food at the old Babylon Café, and knew what to expect. Neither one of us was disappointed. The food is great, and the service is friendly. This is gonna be a simple review! After picking up some super terrible for you Poutine we decided a salad would go best with it. We stumbled upon Bablyon Cafe near our hotel. There was only one of young man in line but he was basically on his way out as we were entering. The space itself it nothing fancy - it's like a deli basically! We ordered a large greek salad to go. The young man made the salad but also asked us if we wanted onions, tomatoes, and cheese (it only came with lettuce otherwise) so of course we said YES! He made the salad with olive oil and maybe some oregano - nothing special. We paid what I thought was pretty crazy prices for the size of even the large salad and left. The salad was okay! I mean not even really good per se but just okay. My one huge complaints was that there was Romaine lettuce core pieces in the salad which to me is just pure laziness. Went in for some late night takeout eats. My experience with Middle Eastern food mostly comes from the multitude of Lebanese spots in Toronto and Ottawa, so I think I have a good idea where the bar should be. I ordered a lamb shawarma plate, which comes with salad, boiled potato, rice pilaf, and flatbread. I think the biggest problem here was the takeout container - it was single-compartment, not the 3-compartment styrofoam I'm used to. What does this mean? Well, the vinaigrette they squirt generously onto the salad gets all over the floor of the styrofoam and acidifies your rice, hummus, and potato... while I'm sure the individual ingredients taste decent apart, this bordered on gross for me. Separate your salad please! The boiled potato was just that - a boiled potato. I'm used to getting the oven-baked ones in Ottawa. The rice was also quite atypical - it was a basmati pilaf with a vegetable mix I'd expect to find in the frozen section of the grocery store, seasoned brown with probably soy sauce, with some lentils tucked in there. Overall it was blander than the usual "rice with tiny buttery noodles" that I expected to find. The lamb shawarma meat was alright. A bit saltier than I'm used to, but certainly not the weak point of the dish. At $11 the price point was higher than average too. An overall miss. read more

Great donairs. Probably my favourite in the town right now. I really love their "brown rice" which should actually be called Mujaddara. It is not brown rice but is a semi golden rice flavoured with spices and a mixture of beans. Their chicken and sauces are amazing. My favourite for flavour in Vancouver by far. read more

Don't know if it was an off-day but this place is usually better than this. I gave it 3 stars because despite the dry meat, the flavours were still so good. Of course, nothing like what you can get back east. I can still remember this one little spot I found in downtown Toronto that was so good I ate there 3 times in 2 days. So back to Babylon cafe; the guy seemed distracted, the heat in the new space was stifling and the condiments seemed a little soggy. A popular spot in this area of downtown. They're not the best shawarma place in town, and not even as good as the Babylon on Denman street for some reason. The servings are adequate. You get a decent amount of food for $10. I really like that a roasted potato is included in the meal platters. The brown rice is not just rice, but a rice and vegetable medley, like a middle-eastern veggie fried rice. Overall service is efficient. The flavour and quality though is not my top choice. Their newest location, didn't think it's been more than a year as usually their other locations in busier areas. Unlike the others, this has the best view with wall to ceiling glass, loft style. Their baklavas are great, comparable to Aladdin Cafe. Parking tough here, especially on a one-way street, at least there's an alley to pull over if you're willing to chance it, so suggest calling it in advance for pick up. read more

Everything is done with a lot of care, you can see that it is a family run business. We've been going to Babylon for years and the quality is always the same, which is what keeps us going back. One of my favs to go to when I'm craving more food! The shawarma plates are worth it! You get so much food for what you pay for. On the other hand... The wraps not so much. I dropped into Babylon Café for a late dinner-on-the-go with my fiancé after watching a movie at Scotiabank Theatre. We wanted one chicken and one lamb shawarma, but they were sold out of lamb so we both ended up with chicken shawarmas. They offer quite a bit of toppings too. We ate our shawarmas while we walked home. Boy were they good! Loaded with chicken and fixin's and the sauce was really tasty. Hands down the best chicken shawarma wrap I've had in Vancouver. I go pretty often to a different shawarma place in the city and always get their chicken shawarma, so when I was in the area and hungry and decided to get the same thing from Babylon cafe, I was blown away by how much better it tasted. I purchased food from them twice, and both times, I was charged an extra $8 under a merchant "COOJO Vancouver" and my bank had told me it had the same postal code as the Ismaili center in Burnaby.
