Been here a few times. Ate here yesterday with a friend for lunch. I had a Gyro and a tabouli salad. Gyro had little meat but tasted ok. The tabouli needed some more lemon. My friend had the red lentil soup. To be honest, it looked like they used brown lentils for the soup and forgot to heat it up. The service was good. They have some parking, which is good. read more

In Jackson for a couple of days on business, I found Aladdin Mediterranean on yelp and decided to give it a try. I eat mediterranean food often in Atlanta, where we have Israeli, Lebanese, and Palestinian varieties to choose from. Aladdin presents a large menu with many nice touches such as haloumi (they call it "fried cheese") and mint-infused tea. I ordered the vegetarian plate (hummus, baba ganouj, and tabouleh). My companion had chicken kabobs. All the food was fresh and delicious, and was served promptly. The haloumi was sliced a bit thicker than is customary and did not have the traditional slight crustiness on the outside, but it was still delightfully "squeaky" and came with a nice garnish of tomato and cucumber slices. The reason for no fifth star is that the restaurant is "bring your own bottle" but this fact is not advertised on their website. It would not have deterred us from going if we had known, but was nonetheless disappointing when we arrived to not be able to have a beer or some wine. The second reason is that the waiter didn't seem to be too familiar with the menu - he would have been of no help to someone who was not already familiar with middle eastern food. However, if you're looking for solid mediterranean fare in Jackson, you will be happy with Aladdin! read more

Hands down the best Mediterranean in Jackson! The food is always super fresh and delicious. I really enjoy both the chicken shwarma and the dolmas. Another reviewer mentioned this, but I'd like to reiterate that their dolmas is served hot unlike most places. But now I won't eat it any different way! Most plates comes with rice, hummus, and a side salad. Their meats are always seasoned and cooked perfectly. Now that I've thought about it, I've never had a bad dish here! Careful attention to each meat's accents was given - the lamb was great, the beef was amazing, the chicken was zesty and subtle at the same time. Spice didn't overpower - flavor won here. While the price point is excellent for lunch, my gyro was dry and only had a small dab of tzatziki. I wasn't that impressed. The food was very good and the service was on par for how busy it was. We ordered the lamb with hummus, the beef kabob plate, and the falafel. In a strange turn of events, two folks from Dallas hoping for some good ole fashioned Mississippi-style food ended up having Mediterranean food for dinner :P Yes, we made the fatal mistake of visiting on a Sunday night and apparently, hardly anything is open in Jackson, MS on a Sunday night (being more of your traditional, family-like town). However, this place was open late (until 10 or 11p) and boy, am I glad it was. The location is convenient to access right there on the main strip of the city, adjacent to the government buildings a few blocks down. The decor has your typical, Mediterranean style feel which is always fun, if not in some kitschy way. We were seated quickly although the booth was a bit small for my very pregnant self ;) What really matters, the food, knocked my socks off. I enjoyed a pretty standard dish of lamb gyro meat with rice, Greek-style salad, and hummus + pita bread. Absolutely ate everything- to the last drop. I did request the yogurt sauce (Tzatziki) to dress the meat simply because I personally love it but honestly the meat was moist enough not to really ~need~ it. Sorry, no pictures today, as when we ate here I was exhausted beyond belief from a long day of testing/procedures at UMC. I was also very hungry for some clean, fresh food, which is what I found here. I hadn't had a chance to eat because of an NPO order for a test that was interminably delayed. We sat outside where, to me anyway, there was no blast-chiller style, morgue-like AC going. I had been freezing all day. Our server was sweet, but forgetful--nothing very bad, nothing very great. Here's a list of what we had, including a fair number of smaller plates, with a short descriptor/assessment of each for ease of reading! The good to very good: Spanakopita: these were very good, well-prepared and stuffed with more spinach than feta. The tzaziki sauce was fresh, full of cucumbers, and nice and dilly. Hummus: very creamy with a good amount of garlic, but a little too salty. I was wishing there would have been a little more restraint with salt all around. Tabbouleh: very good. This was properly made as an herb salad with bulgur, not the other way 'round. Very nice lemony dressing. Baba ghanouj: solid version of this with a good roasted-eggplant flavor and a nice coarsely pureed consistency. Fallafel: very good: not greasy, crispy exterior, and tasty, well-seasoned fava interior. Basmati rice: fluffy, light, and lovely. The not very good to mediocre: Lentil soup: way too much turmeric and clove. This needed some serious acid/brightness balance. Lamb kebabs: arrived well over requested medium-rare, thus too tough and chewy. The excessive salt detracted from the tasty marinade. Greek(?) salad: creamy Italian-style dressing: why? Again, in the name of all Middle Eastern delicious food, why??!! Baklava: good flavor, but soggy layers. Probably from too much and/or too hot butter in assembly. All in all, this was a good meal, but not very good or great. I would try again, though, because it's so hard to find good Middle Eastern food 'round these parts. read more
