Awsome food if you want a change. The chicken swalarma is great for anyone who wants to eat here but wants to play it safe. Many people are close minded in Berks county and afraid to try something new. But coming here the staff is very friendly and will take the time to explain what something is. I stopped by with a friend after the gym last night. The nearly empty parking lot should have tipped me off. I had the Moussaka'a dinner entree at the server's recommendation. I wasn't impressed. My friend ordered the Shrimp Sautee entree. She said she enjoyed it but we both agreed that the kitchen is too liberal with oil when they cook. If you prefer overpriced Middle Eastern food that slides down your throat and lackluster service, this is your place. There was one saving grace: I ordered some Baklawa to go. We went on a saturday evening. The restaurant was completely empty empty, but guests did slowly trickled in the 2 hours we were there. Service was almost good. It's funny how waitresses dote over the table the first 2/3s of the time, then disappear when you eat, when you want a box or a refill, when you want the check- and THAT took forever. Most of the food was good, but the meat was overcooked. They ruined my rack of lamb, and my husband's shawarma- the beef was overdone and a little tough. Everything else was great and as I said the service was kind of good until the end, and she managed to never ask how was everything. We had so looked to forward to this ,but it was disappointing enough to never want go back. We can make all the stuff on the menu better at home anyhow. read more

I had limited experience with Middle Eastern food before Aladdin. Now I love Middle Eastern cuisine (at least Lebanese), and Aladdin is my favorite place to eat in the Reading area. I've eaten there many times. Do not be put off by the outside appearances, it's worth going in. Inside the decor is warm and cozy. I started out mildly with the Aladdin Mix - getting marinated chicken and filet over rice. Both meats tender and flavorful from the grill. Kafta is tasty, but hard to choose after having the filet. The chicken shawarma sandwich is delicious. Hummus, fattoush and tabouleh are always fresh and gratifying. I'm spoiled now. It's really hard for me to eat Middle Eastern anywhere else. I visited Aladdin for the first time last night. Our friends ordered the platter for two containing all the meat items and we ordered the platter for two containing all the vegetarian items, in addition to appetizers and desserts, so I was able to sample MANY different menu items. Went here for lunch today with my class for a book discussion. It was the perfect place. Quiet, cozy, and the food was very good. My family and I have been here a few times not as much due to the restaurant is definitely more a dive very unwelcoming from outside and the inside is not much better overall food is pretty great portion size is never accurate every time you go your sizing is different sometimes it's ridiculous how little your getting especially for the price everyone is very nice owner Alex I believe is very friendly to customers not to staff you can hear him yelling at his waitresses and staff it's pretty disgusting to talk to people the way he does and to switch up personality like that one of the reasons we won't really come back I have little ones and you can hear him yelling uncomfortable across the restaurant this has occurred multiple times... Emily is hands down the best server there she always makes our large family feel the most welcomed so polite and sweet our friends enjoy her serving as well so keep up the good work (if you see this) or ask for her if you go in and eat ... They have belly dancing Friday's nights some of the belly dancers are awesome some not so much always a good time tho byob that's always a plus ... Authentic? You bet. I've been disappointed at a couple Mediterranean places in the past in other states. We hit the Aladdin for lunch yesterday & I'm still thinking about the flavors -wow. Had the falafel app-5 round balls with a tahini dipping sauce. Perfect! Lightly coated & perfectly crispy with a flavorful & perfectly seasoned/perfectly blended spice. I had the lamb sandwich & companion had the chicken shawarma. Big surprise to me - I expected "served in a pita" to mean the half-moon pocket I get at the grocery store. This was the real thing-thin "flour" tortilla perfectly grilled, filled with house hommus, lettuce & tomato (surprisingly flavorful considering it is NOT tomato season) & beautiful cubes of char-broiled lamb - wow. Wrapped as street food I thought I'd eat half & it was all gone before I knew it!!! Companion said the shawarma was excellent!! Wished we'd ordered the baklava but were in a hurry. Great food! have lots of options. Most meals come with a choice of 2 free sides as well as 2 bags of warm pita bread. It is BYOB so you can save some money. Aladdin has the ABSOLUTE HANDS-DOWN BEST Tabouli in the tri-state PA, NJ and DE area. It is absolutely DELICIOUS!!!!!! I visit the restaurant several times per month and HAVE NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED!!!! NEVER!!! The owners and staff are extremely friendly and kind and make you feel very welcome!! I usually order the schwarma, hummus and grape leaves! All are very good also! I asked the owner the correct way to eat Tabouli and he told me the correct Lebanese way to eat Tabouli is with romaine lettuce, not pita bread. He actually gave me romaine lettuce to try and asked me to let him know how it was!!! He was ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!! The only way to eat tabouli is with romaine lettuce!!!! I've been missing out for so many years!! It is soooooooooooooo refreshing!!! The service is excellent!!!! The restaurant has a very warm feeling and decor. You will not be disappointed!! read more

After living in Egypt for a time and craving middle eastern cuisine, my husband and I finally got to Aladdin. We tried the Aladdin platter, a nice sampler of most of their food. I was very impressed, the hummus and pita were amazing, the rice, chicken shawarma, and kebabs were packed with flavor. Great place for lunch. Lots of healthy & delicious options, and the vegetarian ones are very nice. I'm a big fan of the tabouleh. This said, its not really a dinner place. Have visited for lunch many times and been happy. Went once for dinner & service was slower, food came slower, bellydancer was fun for the first few minutes and then became annoying (interrupting table conversation). I went here for the first time recently and LOVED the food! I didn't think Lebanese food would be different than other 'typical' Mediterranean food but it was and it was delicious! The portions were huge and everything tasted extremely fresh. The only thing that kept this from getting 5 stars was my food was not hot (not cold either). My fault for not saying anything to them. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! My husband and I come here all the time, and we also order take out very often. Any time we have out of town guests we always bring them here for a "different" dining experience. We have NEVER had bad food or service here EVER. If you are planning on going on a Friday or Saturday evening I would make a reservation. The ONLY minor complaint I have is that on Friday nights they have a belly dancer, which has never been an issue before and has been slightly entertaining. We were there two Friday nights ago, with my husband's boss, and the belly dancer was acting like a STRIPPER....she would come around and interrupt our conversation more than one time and say things like "you can't place any tips on my body". UM HELLO we weren't giving you any "tips" we are having a nice dinner...it was very uncomfortable. So I hope this girl isn't ever back again on a Friday night...very trashy. Went to Aladdin for dinner with my family tonight. I have never written a bad review ever but the waitress we had at Aladdin made us feel so rushed. Within 5 minutes of receiving our food, she asks if we would like a "to go box" while we literally have food in our mouth. She also said that our dinners didn't come with additional sides even though it clearly states we get 2 extra sides!! I don't know if she was new but she made us feel like she had other plans and could not wait till we left!!! The food was amazing as always. There were 2 other waitresses who were such a delight and made us feel very welcome but unfortunately due to our waitress it really put a damper on the night. This was not the kind of service I think anyone should receive!! She was defintely not a "people person" . You can't train someone proper customer service skills. You either have it or you don't and she did not. Bummer cause we love this place!!! :( read more
