Hummus
David T.

Came here on another rainy Pgh day. We had the hummus to start. That could've been our entree, too, because of the amount of hummus and because it was so good we could've easily kept eating it. I had the chicken sambusek plate. My daughter had the Mediterranean lamb plate and my girlfriend had the rolled chicken. We shared the kibbie plate. Lots of great flavors and we were all full before finishing our plates. We enjoyed the staff although they could use another server or two.

We love getting takeout from Aladdin's Eatery in Fox Chapel, and the food is always tasty and satisfying. Unfortunately, this time there was a hiccup and their online ordering system didn't go through even though it charged our payment. Also, their phone line also down. My husband ended up waiting an extra 40 minutes while they remade the whole order when he arrived for pick up. We were a bit disappointed with the lamb side, which only came with four small pieces, but the rest of the meal was flavorful and fresh as always. The grape leaves are fantastic, really a must try there! Despite the snag, Aladdin's remains a reliable go-to for delicious Lebanese food.

Pita roll

This place is awesome! The food is always fresh and so good. I really like that I can find options for all diet types here. I like the chicken pita rolls a lot. They're always hot and so good with the lemon tahini sauce. The hummus here is so good and they don't use onion or garlic which is great since I'm low fodmap. I've only ever gotten takeout but service is really fast and the inside of the restaurant is very spacious and bright. Need to go back sometime and try more things here!

Aladdin's Favorite Combo

Aladdin's was so good!! The hummus was super fresh, the chicken was flavorful, but the cauliflower was my favorite part. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked. I'll definitely be back! I ordered takeout and would like to try more food from here for sure. Everything was ready fast and the prices were reasonable.

Vegetarian Appetizer (ordered as my meal). Falafel, Stuffed Grape Leaves, Baba Ganoush, Tabouli, and Hummus. Add veggies and hot sauce!

Very unassuming spot in the Waterworks outdoor strip mall. I have been going here for years! I love that the employees are always SO friendly and efficient when ordering takeout over the phone. I usually get the Aladdin's salad (their homemade dressing is so good), a V9 soup (9 veggies in there!), a small Baba Ganoush (it's big enough to share), and a side of veggies (to dip in the Baba). Don't skip on adding a side of hot sauce! This past time I tried the vegetarian appetizer which had a mix of more of my fav things! Prices are reasonable and the food is always fresh. This is one of my fav healthy lunches!

Shish Kabob Salad

I haven't been here in quite awhile, but I feel like I can always count on a delicious meal here. I really haven't had anything I disliked and I had another delicious meal recently. I think they make a delicious hummus. It's smooth, flavored nicely, and goes great with the pita they serve. They don't always offer it, but they have a hot sauce that isn't very spicy, but adds an extra flavor dimension that I really like. I order it with the hummus, but it was just as enjoyable with the other foods I had. The Dawali are their grape leaves, and they too were awfully tasty. They're stuffed with rice, chickpeas, tomatoes, and covered with the house dressing and some feta. I feel like they're as tasty as any grape leaves I've had that aren't homemade. I ordered the shish kabob salad and i had zero complaints. The steak was cooked nicely and it appeared to be filet that was served with mixed greens, tomatoes, feta, and their joke dressing. I didn't get a dessert, but I know from the past that they offer a decent selection of sweets that they have displayed up front. If you're a fan of Mediterranean food, or just want something a bit different, I'd definitely recommend this spot.

Veggie Soup
David B.

This is a local chain that serves up some really excellent Middle Eastern food. They don't serve my favorite, Sleek, but they do have great soups, salads, wraps and desserts. The service is excellent and I always feel welcomed and comfortable here. There's lots of vegetarian options to choose from, for example, they have a vegetarian combo in the appetizer section that is amazing. I also love the smoothies, teas, and other drinks.

The menu lists many meat, seafood, and vegetarian options, and the chefs can accommodate customers on gluten-free and vegan diets. Examples of menu items are lentil soup, babaghanoush, falafel, shepherd salad, lamb chops, many kebabs, sea bass, sautés, house-made desserts such as baklava, and non-alcoholic beverages. My husband and I ate one lunch here. Indoor and covered outdoor seating was available. The employees promptly greeted and seated us, and I appreciated that they recommended specific menu items to help me choose. After a reasonable wait, the foods were brought to our table. Here are my ratings for what we ordered: Grilled Shrimp - 5 stars - Several large, juicy shrimp were on skewers and had been perfectly cooked. Sides were mixed vegetables and a mix of rice and bulgur. Chicken Shish Kebab - 4 stars - The chunks of chicken were large and juicy and had a mild seasoning. On the side was rice pilav. Turkish Tea - 4.5 stars - This black tea was a good size and was served hot. Packets of sweeteners were available. The total price was $55 plus tax and tip.

Falafel appetizer was very, very hard and chewy. Even with a serrated knife it was difficult to cut! Shepherd Salad was fresh but was mostly red and green bell peppers. Very little tomato or cucumber or onion which I was expecting. Not their fault but mine for not knowing about this salad. Again they were super nice and offered to take it back. Donor Kebab was over cooked. Dry. Chewy. Tzatziki sauce was fine. I ordered two extra mini-cups of tzatziki to help me finish the donor kebab. (Extra $1). Bread was very good. I ordered the Turkish Tea but it never came : (

Left me not needing much food for the rest of the day! The falafels were very dense and yummy. The bowl had a bit of salad, hummus, and some chick peas mixed in. Overall, the food was great! I am excited to try some of the other pizzas, kebabs, and other items! The space is tiny and unassuming, and the restaurant seems to be a family run operation. The interior is much more nicely kept than you might guess based on the outside of the building. The staff were very friendly, and all of our food was well packaged. I strongly suggest taking a look at the "Persian Cuisine" section of the menu; in many cases, that section is more interesting than the Turkish grill. In terms of food, things ranged from excellent to pretty good. The hummus was good and nicely textured, but not exceptional. The kashke ve bademjan was excellent, particularly when paired with the nicely toasted flatbread it arrived with. The Mediterranean salad and Tabouli salad were both nicely done, with a nice level of lemon acidity and some shredded cheese on the side. The veggie kebap was fine, but generally flat in flavor: it really needed some of the sides and some hot sauce to fill things out. The red lentil soup was simple with a subtle spicing but ultimately deeply flavorful. The ash reshteh (noodle soup with beans and spinach) was generally good but would have benefited from toppings that would have probably been provided in a dine-in environment. All told, this was a nice little establishment with some excellent Mediterranean and Persian style cuisine. They seem to churn out some high quality food from what seems like a very small kitchen. I could imagine eating in or ordering takeout, but note that the interior space is fairly small with a limited capacity.

Our fave foodie neighbor recommended this over highly-rated Med Table (still haven't tried that place yet, so our verdict is out!). Overall, our meal was really good (not great). Appetizers: hummus & baba gannouj were tasty. We opted for their "regular" size which has given us plenty of leftovers! (Other options: small & large). Hummus was the fave; I've definitely had more flavorful baba. We opted to toast all the mounds of huge pita that came with the meal, though. We're not fans of cold, "raw" pita with dips. Entrees: I got the Genie's combo plate - a couple of interestingly spiced , though somewhat dry chicken thighs (spice called "mishwi" - seemed almost like a Berbere-type seasoning w/ cinnamon in the profile) on a bed of basmati & a helping of tasty, crunchy pickled turnips & Lebanese salata (like Mediterranean pico de gallo). The standout item on this place - far and away - was the roasted, spiced cauliflower. I would have that ALONE - no chicken. I liked the dish, overall, but it didn't knock my socks off. I would look for solo-cauliflower next time. Hubs got the Shish Tawook rolled pita - he really enjoyed the grilled chicken with pickled turnip and excellent homemade garlic sauce. He said he'd def reorder. Top tip - get that garlic sauce (if u like garlic). It's AMAZING. No dessert for us, though what an impressive list they have! We'll definitely return to try some other options.

The dirty martini was fairly pungent and strong so not sure I would get it again but I'm also not big on dirty martinis so probably just the wrong choice on my part. But the food was the star of the show. We ate so many good dishes- starting with the rainbow platter. Loved the baba ghanoush and the roasted cauliflower - those were my favorite of the 7 dishes on the platter. We also ordered the labneh, hummus with chicken and lamb shawarma, and the kafta kebabs (rolled up in some sort of tortilla) which were all fantastic! If we come back (which we will) I would just order the baba ghanoush instead of the rainbow platter, all the other dishes we ordered, and maybe one additional plate. I felt like I didn't really need the Israeli salad (tomato and cucumber) or the pickled cauliflower and radish that came on the rainbow platter. The hummus was SO soft and fluffy. Refreshing and a nice mint flavor; I think they might make the blend in house. They also brought out some nice pita before we started the meal. For my main course, I ordered the shish tawouk. You usually get this meal with the rice pilaf, but they were out, so I got to try the mujadara. I'm actually quite glad! The chicken was tender, and the portion was very fair. They served it with a nice tomato sauce, but I also asked for some garlic sauce on the side. The sauces both seem to be homemade, and definitely go well with the chicken. The mujadara was surprisingly delicious. They top the dish with crispy sweet onions. It's a mix of lentils and some other grain. Very good!
