The gyro is evenly sliced and the salad is large enough for two. Pita chips were crispy and seasoned perfectly, truly a delicacy. The man working is very friendly and great with accommodations. Doesn't look like much when you look at it from the outside, but they serve great food. Only one man was working there when I stopped by. Small shop too, with a TV playing in the corner. I ordered the falafel meal with tahini sauce and the peanut butter cookies. The food was really good though. The prices are fantastic as well! Great place to stop by if you are on a budget. The falafel came in a great portion and was nicely packaged for takeout. It was nice and crispy on the outside. Plus, it was flavorful and soft on the inside. The tahini sauce was a little acidic, so not my favorite, but still pretty good. The peanut butter cookies were just okay. I probably wouldn't order them again if I came back. The drought itself was not very sweet and almost flavorless. Only the chocolate topping was good (it was like a Hershey kiss). Maybe the baklava is better? But, I will say, it is a good portion for the price since you get 2 cookies per order. All in all, a nice spot in a hidden location. Better than I expected, and a fantastic deal! The grape leaves are great!! They serve them cold but I actually like them both hot and cold. The gyro doesn't come with lamb but beef only which is kind of a bust but I choose the chicken sandwich and the pickles really make the flavors come out. They use some kind of sauce that is like mayo but it taste amazing!! I also ordered the fried ricotta cheese puffs and they were pleasant as well. This place has no room for tables maybe one if they really wanted it but otherwise there is just a bench to sit at while you wait for your order. They kitchen is super clean and very well organized so kudos to tasty for the best looking restaurant kitchen I've ever seen. Granted the place is only 4 months old so the compliment may come to soon. I think this place will be a good goto spot for cheap eats. Not sure how this spot is getting such high reviews. On the plus side, the people are friendly, the food is cheap, and the place is clean, which is great. On the negative side, the food takes an excruciatingly long time to be ready. We waited more than half an hour for three simple lunches. The food is far from authentic, despite the claims of other reviews. I'm not sure if they are comparing this to food at Greek food festivals or the like, as it is definitely similar to that, but far from authentic. All three lunches, each with an additional dish were entirely unseasoned. For food that should be bursting with flavor, this was as bland as possible. I got the chicken shawarma meal, which should have been grilled spiced chicken, (or chicken shaved off the shawarma on a spit) with warm pita bread, sumac onions, a little fresh salad and often a garlic or tzatziki sauce. I got none of this. I got three tiny pieces of unseasoned chicken on a bed of unseasoned rice along with a factory sauce packet of "garlic sauce." The hummus I ordered with it looked nice, but came with no pita or chips to eat it with, so I had to just wait until I was home to eat it. My wife and friend each got wraps, which were better, at least the fried bits were crunchy, but both said they were unseasoned and flavorless. The spinach pie was doughy with no real flavor, though the tabouleh, which they made from scratch right in front of us, was nice. All that would really be needed to double the quality here is some proper seasoning and a little garnish. For nearly zero change in their cost, they could offer a tasty meal that was close to true to the cuisine they claim. Very disappointed. read more

The spinach pie was a nice appetizer size portion with ample amounts of seasoned juicy spinach with a tad bit of walnuts for texture. There were just the right amount of other ingredients to compliment the flavor from the spinach. The chicken shawarma wrap was a nice sized wrap with generous amounts of filling-chicken, sauces, pickle and not too much garlic. My favorite was the sauce, which reminded me of warm cream cheese. It was yummy! The mouttabal dip was cold, but had a great flavor and texture. The smokiness of the grilled eggplant, countered by the acidity made me want more. If you are hungry in Penn Hills and want to feel good after eating, try to find them. Located in a nondescript storefront in the Penn Hills Shopping Plaza, Tasty N Healthy is a tremendous discovery. Look for the picture of a gyro in the window. Who thought that authentic Mediterranean food could be obtained in this neck of the woods? The menu is rather slender. When they first opened, you could buy the entire menu for about $40. They have since expanded to offer daily meals. I have not yet delved into the daily meals (pre-ordering is required), but everything else is so solid that I can only assume that they are tasty, though I promise to investigate. The tabbouli, fatoosh, and Greek salads are great. Thoughts of the falafel sandwich and chicken shawarma trigger Pavlovian response as I write. The weakest link in their menu is probably the gyro. It's good, but not nearly as good as everything else. Warning: It's take-out only. There are no tables. It is a real Syrian mom's super-clean kitchen disguised as a tiny storefront. There are always the same two people working when I go in and I'm pretty sure the guy at the desk knows what I'm about to order when he sees me lol. I've also had the grilled chicken salad which is good and unique made with kidney beans, sour cream and some other healthy foods. My food has always seemed fresh cooked, made to order. I visited this place when helping my sister move in the beginning of the year. It was new and we didn't know what to expect, but wandered in anyhow. The place is run by a Syrian family and everyone else is right--the kitchen (which you can see from the front counter) is absolutely spotless. You can tell the food is made with love and is made from scratch. Nothing we had (Greek Salad, spinach pie, gyro, hummus and pita chips) tasted generic. A Mediterranean place is nice in the sea of various pizza places around Penn Hills. I didn't feel overly greasy or gross from eating here, and the prices are incredibly cheap! I'd say the only downfall of this place is that they don't really stay open for dinner hours, so it makes it hard to get to unless you're in PH during the lunch rush. read more
