We ate here on a Monday evening in June with a reservation for 7.15pm. We sat outside with a great view of the ocean for dusk. After being seated, we received water swiftly and our drinks order was taken by our server, Scott. For dinner, we had the Thai coconut soup, clams to start. The clams were particularly delicious and probably the highlight of our night. For our entrees, we had the chicken and the pork, both of which were very delicious. Nothing short of a stunning dining experience. From the walk through the hotel to the trade wind breeze that flowed through the restaurant- the ambiance couldn't be beat. If you're looking for a menu that highlights the islands specialties, look no further. As residents of north shore ourselves, my husband and I are always so happy to find a romantic and comfortable atmosphere that offers truly tasty and local fish dishes. I enjoyed the mahi mahi, and my husband was blown away by the evenings special, which tonight was a delicate preparation of a shutome (swordfish). Cocktails were extremely well balanced and truly enjoyable. Our service was attentive and spot on. It's very clear that new management and renovations are taking this spot to a new level. Unbelievable disappointment for an establishment that is in a Ritz-Carlton resort and labeled as upscale. The prices were certainly upscale, but unfortunately we can't rate the food since after waiting well over an hour for our meal our waiter finally told us "I have no idea what's going on back there but don't think your food is coming any time soon". Some of the items on the menu look like they might be vegan friendly or can be made vegan, but that isn't the case. I got the feeling that they didn't even understand the word vegan, which is funny because Turtle Bay is all about sustainability. I got the fruit bowl which was pretty bad and overpriced. After being told "Its the best thing on the menu", I asked for the meat to be served with the sauce on the side, informing the server that I oreferred savory to sweet. He told me it was cooked into the meat as a marinade, and that there was no sweetness to the sauce. Imagine my surprise when I was served a beautiful piece of meat slathered with gummy, sweet "mustard". I was only able to stomach about a 1/4 of it before giving it up as inedible. Probably should have asked for something else but I was just disgusted at that point. We had the whole red snapper and the scallop and the The lobster roll sushi and the Salanova salad. The way Missy explained all the wonderful food l, plus the knowledge of how the food was caught was just next level. I highly recommend and so thankful I chose to have pre dinner drinks at the bar. TLDR; Three stars mostly for the service & the entree & dessert at dinner. Otherwise I would not eat here again when Roy's is right next door. Ate here twice during our staycation, once for dinner and once for breakfast. Dinner was alright, we had the hamachi appetizer which was extremely underwhelming. The fish was fresh but the sauce was subpar and it came with blanched asparagus which was unexpected. My husband had the ahi entree which came with avocado & tomatoes, the flavors in his dish were good. I had the filet minion and was a bit shocked that it literally is just the steak & sauce (which was very good!) but no sides came with it. We had a side of asparagus which was cooked more than the appetizer and the baked Parmesan cheese was a nice touch. The chocolate cake for dessert was hands down the best part of dinner, just a very small serving. Breakfast was not even worth half of what we paid. The coffee was bitter, the avocado toast could have used any sort of seasoning on it, it was very bland. Husband had the crepe and expected it to come with more stuff? The menu lists a ton of options but apparently none of it is standard which was misleading. He was pretty disappointed. Side of bacon was the highlight, crispy yet chewy & thick slices. The hash browns also could have used any sort of seasoning. The tables should at least have salt & pepper shakers if they aren't going to put anything on the food when they cook it. Reopened new restaurant Alaina is a winner. I've been coming to turtle bay for years and this so far is the best thing happened to the resort. All the food were top notch with world class ambiance deserves 10 stars. The server who is a son of a legendary waterman Derik Dorner was excellent in introducing the chef special and special drinks. He was well trained and his timing on deliveries were perfect. I am making this place my regular weekend dinner stop from now. Don't miss this place. read more

The former/old school Kuilima Resort is now the newly renovated Turtle Bay. Stayed for a weekend night for a family birthday. In this post-Covid period you'd think the hotel would offer discounts. The kama'aina rate as of October 2022 is $600+ per night, with no refunds. Nice renovation with the lobby's redesigned entrance, lobby infinity pool feature, and updated rooms. Hotel's trying to project a "4" star feeling, though needs improvement. Upon check in, had to wait in line for over ten minutes. Front desk had three staffers talking with one guest ahead of us in line. We finally asked- were told the two regular employees were training a new one. They could have easily checked us in regardless. Updated room was clean, ADA bathroom good, though room entrance lacked an automatic door button for wheelchair users and their caregivers. Alaia restaurant in the lobby also nicely renovated. Menu leans towards local fusion-type offerings and has a kids menu. Poke was average, quality of hamachi tartare poor, kid's cheeseburger was dry and overdone. Visually the renovation's impressive, kama'aina rate excessive, and the food unimpressive. Wouldn't stay at Turtle Bay again. read more

The bread was spectacular and the salt and pepper butter was so good. The half chicken was dry and over-cooked but the corn pudding and jus on that plate were divine. We had a great stay at Turtle Bay. I was a little concerned that being further out on North Shore in Oahu, there may not be a lot of options for Gluten/Dairy allergies. However I was pleasantly surprised with our experience at Alaia. The service was on point, dinner menu was great with options for me (vegan) and one or our children (gluten and dairy allergy), the view was amazing and over all couldn't ask for anything more during our experience. Added a start because the server Tiger was friendly and attentive but the food was terrible. They provided fresh bread which was probably the best thing we ate. We got the fresh salad, the size was large enough to split. Lettuce was super fresh but the vinaigrette was too acidic, almost like apple cider vinegar. I got the chicken and husband got the swordfish which was daily catch. Fish was terrible and way overcooked. They did offer to recook but my husband doesn't like to do that. I got the chicken and it had good flavor but was little salty. They offered free dessert and the triple chocolate tort was yummy. In the end they actually didn't charge us for the meals because he saw we didn't eat much. I don't like to complain. Overall service was great, hope was just off night for the chef. read more

The $62 short ribs just aren't it, Fam. I was excited because it was paired with coconut mashed potatoes which seemed like a unique twist. There was not even a subtle hint of coconut. This is fancy pot roast you can make at home. I was even able to overlook the extremely fatty pieces I received, but this was severely underwhelming for the price tag. Food is OK but expensive for the quality. Breakfast Entrees came with cold potatoes. Bacon was good but hard to mess that up. As of Sep 1 2022 they raised their breakfast prices almost 20% which infuriated many repeat diners who were staying at the resort. Listening to the manager repeatedly defend this to the regular customers seemed counter-productive. If you had been getting the buffet daily and without warning it increased $6+ a person you might feel like this was like bait and switch. It will leave many resort guests feeling less overall happy about the resort stay for a trivial additional fee. (The resort already tacks on a hefty mandatory daily "resort fee" and hefty parking charges at check in) The hostess was nice as was our waiter and the view is lovely. They need to up their game on the food. This seems to be a management issue as the staff was nice. I haven't eaten there other than breakfast. read more

Stopped by Alaia for breakfast on our final day along the North Shore. They had a nice looking breakfast buffet, so we decided to try that. The buffet items offered are pretty standard fare, a solid variety of fruits (berries, melon, pineapple), proteins (bacon, ham, smoked salmon, glazed chicken, eggs) and carbs (pastries, breads, etc...), but nothing especially unique. Staff was friendly and attentive. Prices were about what you would expect for a breakfast buffet at a nice hotel (i.e. overpriced). The buffet does end at 11 AM. This was my first time to the Turtle Bay Resort. It is so beautiful. I was excited to try their recently opened high end restaurant. It was delicious. My best friend and I decided to try a bunch of the appetizers because they sounded so good. We were not wrong. The octopus was delicious, the rock shrimp came with a yummy sauce and we had to ask for more bread to get every drop. The hamachi with asparagus was so fresh and light. The ahi carpaccio was perfect with again a delicious drizzle of sauce. We split the lamp and ordered both the basil and regular mashed potatoes along with bok choy. We ate it all and loved every bite. We will be back!!! So nice to have amazing food that matches the stunning view. read more

We had a reservation celebrating our engagement and after getting seated, our waitress told us that they were out of all of the entree fish minus the Ahi, the carpaccio appetizer and the chicken (So out of Ahi appetizer, mahi mahi, the catch of the day and the chicken). I don't eat red meat so that took out most of the options for me. Totally fine, until the table behind us sat down. They asked about the catch of the day and ordered that, the mahi mahi and the carpaccio!! I understand if things are out of stock, but the fact that the people behind us sat down ~10 minutes after us and still got the food that apparently wasn't available was a bit of a disappointment.
