I'm so glad with this place. I had a cooling fluid leaking and I thought there is something wrong with my water pump. First thing in the morning I went to BT after I had my friend recommendation. I had to get my rear shock replace, because the Honda dealership said it was leaking. I called around and this is the cheapest place I can find, lesser than half of what Honda quoted. He had to order the parts for me, and it was delivered the next day. I made an appointment and was super impressed that I was in and out within 20 minutes. The place looks a little run down due to the hydroponic shop next door shutting down and leaving their trash in the lot. But I trusted the reviews here and drive on in at 4:30 needing a smog check and trying to also make the post office. I got charged a little more then other advertised smog check deals, but for that I had my smog check receipt, and made the post office in fruitvale. Just before they closed. It's a no nonsense place with real people not looking to screw you in getting your emcee worked on... Rare for any shop these days. Recommended highly! read more

The front brakes on my 2011 RAV4 started to make horrible sounds. I called around and searched yelp for local repair shops. I'm always nervous that I'm going to get ripped off so I checked out the reviews. BT Auto Repair was referred to in another shop's reviews as being trustworthy, uses Toyota parts, and was reasonably priced. And indeed all of those things are true! John is awesome - very helpful, explained everything to me and showed me everything on my brakes. I needed the rotors replaced - he said the ones on my car were damaged beyond repair. I thought it was going to be an arm and a leg but instead I left with a bill I could handle and a safer ride. I will definitely be going back!! read more

John Vu is the most honest, hardworking and understated mechanic you'll find. I've taken several cars to him over the years and he always seems to find a way to fit my cars in, when I am in need. He has lots of hands on experience and knowledge, and can diagnosis the issue(s) very quickly. With that said, he also doesn't overstate his haunches, if he is unsure. Just want to add, John ordered an actuator for my vent. I brought the car in at 5:00pm on a Friday. He called me before 8am on Saturday to tell me the car was ready. If I had it repaired by the dealer it would have been at least 1/3rd higher, though the dealer could not give me an exact price. John's quote was exactly what I paid. I see my original post is gone. BT auto was highly recommended to me by a group of business people. My boyfriend, who know lots about cars, brings his cars here from Livermore. If you want someone who is honest, respectful, knowledgeable, very reasonable, uses only good parts, skilled, and no-nonsense John is the best. Don't let the neighborhood scare you. i come here for all my auto repair needs. Ive had two cars now and both times I've gone to John anytime I've had a problem. He's very patient and usually finds the problem pretty fast. He also check on other stuff in the car without asking. I went in to get my brakes replaced and he rotated my tires for free. I went there for a tune up and brake / light inspection on my Corolla. John is a zen master of car repair - calmly identifying a number of minor problems and fixing a few of them for free. He also noted that he'd have charged less than the place I had my brakes, shocks and struts replaced and would have used original Toyota components (mine were generics). He showed me his parts collection to prove it. Wish I'd gone to him instead. John was sincere and very trustworthy. This was my first time dealing with BT Auto repair but I must say, John was very friendly and very honest. I bought an alternator and went to him to install it. The price he quoted me was the best deal I found compared to 8 other shops I called. John immediately did a diagnostic check and let me know that the problem wasn't the alternator. He also let me know that taking it back to the dealership to get fixed would be my best option. He could've easily kept the car and installed the alternator just to make some money off of me but he didn't. It's refreshing to know that there are still some honest mechanics out there. Been to him a few times and the work has always been excellent, fairly priced, and never has taken longer than a day even when they sent him the wrong parts. John is indeed an honest man , he allowed me to gather parts for my 2001 honda accord v6. Which was in terrible need of a timing belt and waterpump change. Due to my personal expertise in cars. I wasn't charged a diagnostic or inspection fee. I heard that most shops will just look at it and charge a whopping 80 dollar fee. John charged me 300 dollars for labor I felt this is a good deal. I was able to drop the vehicle off at 9 o clock on May 27th. I received a call from John and it was completed at 1500 hours the same day. Which I felt was amazing.
