I haven't been to the movies since before the pandemic, and I was surprised at how much more comfortable the experience is here these days. The seats are large, and there's a lot of space between rows, so it doesn't feel claustrophobic like traditional theaters can. I didn't order anything, and most people didn't either, and it wasn't weird. If you need accessible parking, there are multiple spots right outside the door. I went to two different showings: one in a regular theater and one in the Big Show auditorium. I found the sound quality in the regular theater to be a bit tinny, though the subs are nice. However, I do sound for a living, so the average person will feel the sound quality here is way, way better than what they have at home. Be aware that the regular theaters are not Dolby Atmos. The Big Show is indeed Atmos, and it's a cool experience to have sound in all three dimensions. However, the noise floor in the Big Show was a serious problem when I was there. The AC system was loud to my ears. The noise kills the vibe when you're watching something that is supposed to have silent moments. I have no idea why they would put a unit inside the auditorium rather than down the hall with acoustic ductwork. If they'd do something about the loud background noise in the theater, I'd give the place five stars. read more

Just a terrible time. They have a ridiculous late policy where the rotund worker with glasses at the front always has a power trip about not letting re-entry or even entry if you're a minute late (even to the PREVIEWS). Was turned away from Spider-man because of this strange line of reasoning. Is this not a little ridiculous? I have fond memories here from my time at the old icon cinemas, but I think I will be taking my business back to the shoreline theaters. Managed to snag a couple seats to watch a movie here and was disappointed that they only had seats left in the second and third rows. (Our fault for being spontaneous) But, we were pleasantly surprised by how great the seats were still! No need to crane our necks or lean all the way back. There didn't seem to be a "bad" seat in the theater! This location provided huge reclining seats, and has incredibly attentive and hard-working staff members. They brought us lots of waters and checked in on us discreetly several times. I ordered the Caesar salad wrap with light dressing. I recently attended the Cinequest Film Festival in March held at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. I saw 'This Tempting Madness' and our whole experience was great. The movie itself was very riveting and entertaining. This was further enhanced by the great theater sound, picture clarity and super comfy reclining seats. After the film, we also got to check out the arcade and claw machines on the same floor. To finish the night off, we went upstairs to the large bar they have on the 3rd floor. All in all, it was definitely a great theater to watch a movie. We for sure will be back again! read more

Went yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by everything at this theater. If not sold out I recommend buying tickets onsite to avoid service fees. Seats are pretty comfortable. They don't fully recline which I would have liked but because they serve food and drinks I kinda get it. You can use a QR code to order or someone comes around. You only order from your seat. No buying in the lobby. The process was easy. Food came fast. I was amazed at the popcorn. It comes in a real stainless steel bowl. Super nice touch. And it was delicious. Free refills - unless you're sharing you will not need one. Drinks come in nice plastic glasses. Large size and free refills as well. The menu has a lot of great food and drink options. Lots of beers and cool cocktails too. The staff were so friendly and very accommodating. To be fair, my friend and I were the only 2 people in the theatre so I can't say how service is when very busy. But I suspect it will be great. Overall a great experience. We came here to see Odysseus during a Friday afternoon. We purchased tixs in advance and got great seats. The seats were comfy and the large popcorn was tasty. I tried the in person dining experience where you order food to your seat from your phone, and thought it was interesting! The menu was a lot less varied than I was hoping as it was mostly bar food - think pizza, nachos, burgers, wings, fries etc. The food was mostly all right, as much as you'd expect from bar food. I also got their gourmet truffle popcorn and they gave you SO MUCH popcorn holy moly. It was put in a giant metal mixing bowl and it was so much, I had to take some home. First off, the entrance isn't intuitive if you are walking to the theater. You have to go past the parking structure and enter this random door on the right without much signage indicating it is really... anything. Then you have to go up one floor, and for us, the escalators were out of service. The one elevator had of course, a line. If I wasn't with my elderly parent in party I wouldn't have care much but it did in this case. Regardless, so much for accessibility. Impression 1. No advertised discounts (that are only available in person) applicable to certain screenings so beware... also, if you order the unlimited popcorn and call for the attendant and they don't come within a few, do it again! Came here to watch a film that was part of the Cinequest Film Festival and overall the movie experience itself was pretty solid. Big theater, plenty of seats but unfortunately doesn't recline further back than I would like. Variety of food and drinks to choose from that are brought right to your seat. I ordered a Coke, draft beer, and popcorn through the QR system. I noticed the note about needing to manually close the tab otherwise an automatic 20% gratuity would be charged, which I was fine with and planned to close it myself. However, when the movie reached the end credits, I tried to close my tab but the page wouldn't load. I checked my connection with other apps, which loaded fine, so it seemed to be an issue with their site specifically. Since I couldn't access my order, it was automatically closed and I was charged the 20% gratuity, which was frustrating given the experience. There were also a couple of service mix-ups as well. My drink was initially delivered to the wrong seat before being redirected to me. Later, a bowl of fried pickles was dropped off at my seat without any sort of confirmation, but since it was mid-movie in a dark theater, it was difficult to flag anyone down or resolve without disturbing other movie-watchers. I understand that delivering food in a dark theater can be challenging and this may not be everyone's experience here. But, between the ordering issues and service confusion, it wasn't the smoothest visit for me. read more

Very curious about the poor reviews. We came to watch a movie featured in the Unbridled Film Festival and arrived about 30 min early. Usually, Alamo Drafthouse opens the theatre at about this time which allows you to get settled and order food but it seemed like there was a bit of disorganization here as we didn't get to sit until very close to lights down. This meant it was a little difficult to peruse the menu, order, and pay attention to the film in the first few minutes. Food eventually arrived but they did deliver one of our orders to our neighbor who graciously asked if it was ours. Aside from that snafu though the food was all super fresh and very tasty. The chicken tenders were chonky, yet juicy and tender. The fries were thick cut, crisp and just salty enough. And the fried pickles were spears with just enough crispy breading. Because we like variety we also got a smorgasbord of sauces. The comeback sauce and the hot honey thyme were really tasty. I love an Alamo Drafthouse experience from time to time and this one really hit the spot. Food was good, seats were comfy, and the show started timely. First time coming back here since it was initially Icon a few years back. Plenty of free parking in the area. I like the lounge chairs, but wished they would recline more like a lazy boy rather than a premium economy airplane seat. I appreciate that they have WiFi so you can order via a QR code from your seat. They do bring out the food quickly, which is much appreciated. Ordered the bottomless popcorn and it came out super hot, which was appreciated. The amount they give is quite substantial, but it unfortunately had a slightly stale texture. The Bavarian pretzel was nice, but if you don't finish it in the first 20 minutes, the sauces become quite congealed. Came here for a free viewing of "Twinless." The movie was great, 10/10 cinema. However, I feel as though if you are looking to watch a movie with minimal interruptions and distractions this may not be the place for you. In theory, the concept of Alamo Cinema is cool however I think that I would prefer and interrupted theater where workers are not walking up and down the isle delivering drinks and food through the movie. Saw that they had flavored popcorn and everyone was The free movie viewing did have to be purchased through seat reservations but then can be applied for food and drink voucher. I did not like how all the food was very expensive to the point I did infact pay for food and the movie tickets. Saw that they had flavored popcorn and everyone was talking about the truffle parmesan flavor but I would not get this again. It was definitely underwhelming and very salty overpowered by parmesan. Inside the theater itself, was VERY VERY hot. Its like they did not turn on the air con. Even the people sitting next to me were waving a fan the entire time. I can't speak to the service because the app wasn't working for me when I was there. The last time I was at an Alamo Draft House was in Texas and because of that, I feel the one in Mountain View had much to be desired. It was super clean and the chairs were nice and cozy. Unfortunately, I was tired and ended up taking micro-naps during the movie we were watching. I wish the service app had been working because I definitely would have ordered a snack and drinks. I couldn't be bothered to get up to order food during the movie. I came into the theater with the thought of my experience in Texas. The seats there were much larger, they had paper menus (even after COVID), the servers came by to check on you, and you were able to order through them. Definitely want to check out some other locations throughout the bay though. Maybe I'll like a different one better. read more

Overall experience was good. However, yelp events are generally very well organized. In this case, no one knew about the event we were there for. There were no clear signage. We were asked to join a queue by frontdesk which had nothing to do with Brenda movie premier. We were then asked to move to a different line. They expected us to show up 30 mins before the show time and stand in line; the particular auditorium seemed empty but they made us stand in a line for 15-20 mins, without any communication on why we were being asked to wait and if we were in the correct line. And they're still working out some kinks like transitioning from the paper and button for ordering food and drink in your seat to direct QR menu now. But! This is a clean and specialized theatre. You walk in and walk straight to your theatre and seat. Grab a pen and paper under your tray. Write your order and click the button. If you hate staff walking around during the movie, this might not be for you. But they are pretty quick and quiet when serving food and drinks. I got the Truffle Parm Popcorn and WOWWWWW. This was greasy, oily, and had a ton of black pepper. I wouldn't recommend it, but the portion was AWESOME in a big metal bowl and it was clearly popped fresh. read more

Impressed by their menu and service. Good selection and actually tasted good. Had the Fried Egg Frito Pie and the Truffle Parm Popcorn. The Fried Egg Frito Pie had a slight spice to it from the chili itself and the Sriracha sauce. It's an open faced taco pie in a bed of Frito Lay's corn chips with the special type of chili, Shiner Chili. Shiner Chili is not your typical chili stew. The sour cream, cheese and cotija balanced out the spices. The Truffle Parmesan popcorn came in a huge metal mixing bowl. It's one of those snacks that you just keep shoveling into your boca (mouth). Salty and savory; warm and popcorny crispy. The all you can drink soda was almost $9, which is the only minus with the price. Non bottled water was free. The new chairs were comfy with the surface having a very soft texture. I noticed the chair didn't recline as far back as the old IconX chair but not a big deal. Clean environment. The menu is tucked in a shelf under the tray attached to the chair. You write your order on the paper, press the button and the staff comes over to pick up the paper. Food came out pretty quickly and the staff brings the food to you. They kept the bar lounge upstairs. They added the the colorful arcade which is great when you need to pass the time before the movie starts or after. read more

Finally, an Alamo Drafthouse in the South Bay! I love this theater because they'll not only play new releases but get some international, second runs and oldies as well. It's a real treat to get to watch bangers like Sinners and Back to the Future for the first time with an audience after it's already left theaters. The food is rather decent, with special props for the popcorn - it comes with unlimited refills (not that I'd be able to finish a whole bowl by myself) and they use real delicious clarified butter! The theatre staff are also super kind and on top of things now that a lot of the opening kinks have been worked out. The only things I knocked a star off for are the escalator up that seems to have stayed broken forever and the seats that don't go all the way down. I can take the stairs, but I know some people can't. There is an elevator but meh. And I know they can't help it with the seats but I do love a full recline. Anyway, you can't beat this theater with old school movie vibes and some excellent programming. read more

There's no counter to buy food or drinks, so you have to scan a QR code at your seat and order through your phone. After I ordered, I got a text saying: "when the film ends, you have 20 mins to close your tab before it auto-closes with 20% tip." Automatically charging 20% unless the customer notices and opts out within 20 minutes is a deceptive fee, not a tip. Tips can only be voluntarily given (i.e. you opt in, not opt out). I doubt this is even legal. California SB 478 requires the listed price to include mandatory charges. Even if it's not illegal, it's messed up and I won't be coming back. read more

I had a disappointing experience attempting to try out Alamo Drafthouse for the first time. Wanting to avoid the usual 20-30 minutes of previews, we arrived at the theater 15 minutes past our showtime, only to be denied entry because the feature had begun 4 minutes earlier, following just 11 minutes of previews. I've been to other dine-in theaters like Cinépolis, with servers interrupting and walking through rows to deliver food throughout the film, so it's a bit contradictory to deny entry a few minutes into the film under the guise of minimizing interruptions. What happens when someone leaves to use the restroom, are they denied reentry too? We were directed to either wait around for 3+ hours for the next showtime, or to come in again a different day. And since our tickets were prepurchased online through Fandango, we were told we were unable to receive a refund and instead would have to call back to reschedule to our desired date when new showtimes are released. This happened immediately afterwards to the party behind us as well, and judging by the numerous other reviews here, this is a pretty common experience for patrons here. Clearly, there's a visibility and transparency issue that needs to be addressed. On Fandango, the policy is hidden behind a dropdown menu during ticket selection. Purchasing directly from their website is no better, where it's listed in small font at the bottom of the ticket selection screen after other policy notes, easily missed because you'd have to intentionally scroll past the ticket selection to review it. Also, it's pretty clear that they're using ChatGPT to respond to these Yelp reviews. I'd rather see management actively respond to criticism themselves, or even refrain from responding altogether, than to see soulless, robotic AI responses. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and I'll be prioritizing other theaters over Alamo in the future. read more

I should be watching Spider Man right now, but instead I'm home writing this... I'll start with what is good. The main theater was much bigger than I expected. The junior staff were quite friendly. But this is where it ends. There is something seriously wrong with the management of this place. We bought our tickets online as we do with other movie places. When we got there, there was no gate with someone to scan your tickets like there is at pretty much every other cinema in the world. So we went straight to the theater expecting a ticket check there. The attendant said we were good and let us in. Even offered us water, which was a nice touch. The previews were still running and we were having trouble finding our seats when another attendant realized that our QR code wasn't scanned. So in good faith, my son went back out to have it scanned. But the guy at the front with the thick rimmed glasses (see other reviews for this guy on Aug 1) accused my son of coming in late and refused him entry. Apparently, they have a policy of no entry after the movie starts, but we were clearly NOT late, though by the time he came out, the movie had probably literally just started. After about 5 minutes or so my son hasn't come back so I ask one of the junior staff to find him. The manager comes and I explain to him what has happened thinking this should be quick. The movie has already started and we just want to get back in and enjoy the show before too much time has passed. But the manager launches into this policy speech and he asks me if I'm accusing the front desk guy of lying. I wanted to be fair as it's possible the front guy may not have known, but there was the attendant who gave the water to us right there and he said nothing. So, the manager just keeps asking me if I'm accusing the front desk guy of lying. By now the movie is probably 15-20 minutes in. So finally I say that someone has to be lying because we were not late. I guess that must have been the magic word because the manager now says we can go in. How ridiculous. Enough time had passed that I ask for a full refund and the manager eagerly agrees. Except when he opens the till, he says he can only give us a rain check because we bought online with Fandango. So now we have no choice but to go back to this horribly run place. read more

Summary: First class prices, business class luxury. Does not live up to the hype. I thought the whole point of this place was the "no phones" policy. The policy is now "it's ok to use your phone while ordering". Disappointing. They have QR code menus. You cannot buy snacks without fingerprinting your phone, sharing your email, and your phone number. Or you can leave the theatre for 10 min to track an employee down to order. I'm not a fan of the not so subtle reminder to tip after I've had to enter a complicated order and pay on a device I paid for. The beer selection isn't great, it's in line with what you can get at a chilis, both in selection and service. The only value proposition is no ads, but they undermine this by blasting noisy "don't smoke drugs, kids" video content before the film starts. read more

Ridiculous and hypocritical policies- Modern movie theaters let you book your seats so you can skip the lame half hour of previews. My kids were there several minutes before their movie was supposed to start but they would not let them in. My kids even called before they bought their tickets and we drove all the way to Mountain View and they said they would be fine as long as they arrived by the time- but apparently you need to arrive much earlier. They were not offered a refund in spite of being told something different on the phone. read more

I took my dad here for a movie, and it was the most exceptional experience! We had the best time! We saw The Long Walk, and the servers were so incredibly kind and responsive! I actually really like this theater. Despite negative reviews of this place, we decided to check it out. We are discounted ticket theater-goers only, so when we saw Alamo had one of the cheapest tickets in the area we were excited. No talking/distractions allowed in the theater -- but I feel like that goes without saying. It's interesting since they have a paper and pencil where you can write down what food you want, you press a button, and the workers take your paper and then bring food to you. I recommend going a few minutes early to get situated and order and enjoy the previews, which are a lot more interesting than other theaters since they show things relevant to the movie you're watching. I don't really care for trailers so I liked this approach a lot more. The meals itself are pretty expensive but we were hungry. It's okay food, nothing super. On top of that, we ordered the unlimited popcorn which was honestly fairly priced considering some theaters don't allow refills anymore, and it tasted good too and not too greasy. Overall, we really liked our experience. I can see how it might be hard with kids who are rowdy or make a lot of noise, or if you're watching a comedy or something that would make you openly react. But for the cheap price of tickets on Tuesdays compared to those in the area, you can't really go wrong with this theater. It just takes typical movie etiquette more seriously than others, and it just gives the same experience I had as a kid when phones were not a huge thing back then! read more

The comfortable recliners have been replaced with less comfortable seats which have footrest with minimal recline. I think we were in theater #2; massive with an enormous screen.
