Poolside Grill inside the Sheraton Palo Alto Hotel is easily one of the best hotel restaurants I've been to. The portions are generous, the food is high quality, and everything we ordered was fresh and flavorful. My favorites were the cheese fondue, the short rib grilled cheese, the ribeye, the sweet potato fries, and the bread pudding for dessert. Every dish was well executed and made it feel like much more than your typical hotel restaurant. The service was attentive, friendly, and made the experience even better. Between the delicious food, generous portions, and relaxing poolside atmosphere, I'd absolutely recommend stopping by whether you're staying at the hotel or just looking for a great meal in Palo Alto. read more

Came down for a quick dinner.. The service is impeccable.. The servers, Tonworked as a team. I loved that. It was continuous check-ins. And I kept ordering.. the beet salad was filling and delicious. Fun vibe with ample space to sit at the bar or in groups at high top tables or low tables and bench seating. Drink was very good, and the Naan delicious. Oddly the three scenes were not in sync so I watched the Lakers game on the screens above the bar and it looks like two different games. Weird. Service was prompt and efficient. I expected the Naan to be like a pizza but was pleasantly surprised to have it served like a taco. Large slices of zucchini and yellow squash and some bottled roasted red peppers with tzatziki sauce made for a satisfying meal. A large well- dressed salad and tasty roast veggies on plush Naan. The Poolside Grill offers great service in a very nice setting in the courtyard area where the main swimming pool is located at The Sheraton Palo Alto location. We stayed at the Sheraton Palo Alto during the July 4th weekend last month and was impressed with the service and quality of the food served at the Poolside Grill! We sat outside between the Poolside Grill restaurant (plenty of indoor seating) and the main pool area and arrived around 7pm. The server was very friendly and came out within minutes after we sat down. We had the chilled/cold iced tea (house made), and shared the Salinas Valley Greens salad (includes Tomato, Red Onion, Cucumber, Candied Walnuts) with a fresh, Citrus Vinaigrette dressing. The lettuce was very fresh and crisp including the ingredients used. The citrus Vinaigrette dressing was refreshing and light! We ordered the All Natural Angus Burger that includes Applewood Bacon, Tillamook Cheddar, Avocado, Lettuce, Red Onion, Tomato, Dill Pickles, French Fries for $19. And also ordered the salmon dinner that includes sauteed vegetables and a large portion of garlic mashed potatoes. The Angus Burger was cooked to perfection (well done) with just a slight pinkish color. The bun was soft and the side of garlic french fries was generous and all was served hot! In general, both entree portions was a lot and we had to take both to-go. The Salmon entree was also served hot and was very tasty too! It came with a side of sauteed vegetables and a very generous portion of garlic mashed potatoes too! I enjoyed this as much as trying the burger :) All tables outside was full and everyone was enjoying the setting, atmosphere, drinks and food. For dessert, we had Vanilla and Strawberry ice cream with fresh raspberries and whipped cream. It was a great way to end a very nice dinner! The courtyard where the restaurant and pool is surrounded by the California famous douglas fir trees and afternoon/early evening warmth. The Poolside Grill offers breakfast items including buffet style too. We took a peek at the offering for the Buffet and they offer a large hot and cold selection. We stayed at the Sheraton for 2 nights while my husband attended meetings at Stanford University. We arrived on Sunday afternoon and had cocktails and a cheese plate in the bar. Kevin was our bartender and was very welcoming. We also met Tony, a server from Poolside Grill. He was so friendly and his attitude was contagious so we quickly made up our mind to have dinner at the Grill. They have my very favorite wine, Cakebread Cellars, which made me very happy! We ordered the flatbread to share and it was really good, made even better by the awesome service provided by Tony. We had the breakfast buffet both mornings that had a good offering. The eggs didn't really appeal to me, I think they may have been powdered eggs. The fruit selection was nice and the service by the ladies in the morning was phenomenal. I had the sliders for lunch while enjoying the sunshine and the pool. I can't say enough good things about them, yummy! The second night we shared a salad and the haddock with another bottle of Cakebread. The salad was fresh and crisp, the haddock was cooked perfectly and all was served by the awesome Tony. The second day I ordered the turkey club which came with an insane amount of fries. I ended up only eating half of it. All things considered, we really enjoyed the food and service at the Poolside Grill. So nice to just stay on the property and have meals. We definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

When I'm traveling, I always enjoy the hotel breakfast buffet. I recently discovered that I can have a nice buffet without traveling, right here in Palo Alto at the Poolside grill. On the day I visited, the buffet had a lot of variety: eggs, sausage, bacon, tater tots, yogurt, granola, fresh fruit (not just melon), cereal, bagels, pastries, muffins, orange juice, grapefruit juice, and more. The food was fresh and the eggs were hot. I thought the price of $23 was very reasonable. I recommend it. A few minor glitches: the sign said please wait to be seated, but after waiting several minutes I finally had to track down a waiter, who told me to sit anywhere. There was a similar slow down when leaving: since most customers charge to their room, I suspect they're not used to spotting credit cards and I had to hail the waiter to pay my bill. None of the food was labeled, so I'm not sure what kind of muffins they served, or the bagel flavors, or the identity of one of the hot dishes (I think it was a bread pudding). But the staff was friendly and I'm sure would have explained had I asked. A breakfast buffet is often a high-end affair with a price to match. The Sheraton Poolside Grill is a refreshing alternative: a reasonable selection of good quality food at a fair price. read more

It was a huge mistake ordering from the Poolside Grill. It was the day before surgery and I wanted to save myself some work finding other food, so I ordered over the phone from my room and said I'd walk down and get it (or else it's a $3 delivery and 19% automatic gratuity). As a person that tips based on service, I didn't feel comfortable with a flat rate. After ordering at 7:45 P.M. and it finally being 9, I called and asked if my food was ready since they never called to let me know. They said no and to wait another 15 minutes. By 9:40 I called again since they still didn't call me and it was not done STILL. I told them I'd be down in ten minutes because I'm almost at my cutoff for eating (because of surgery). I waiting in their lobby for 5 minutes before anyone greeted me, then waited another ten minutes for my order. Let me tell you when I opened my food in my room and compared to cost I was extremely disappointed. The chips and salsa, which I was hoping would be home made salsa, were store bought and soggy. That dish was $10 and over priced. I wouldn't even pay $10 for that plate in Las Vegas. The second dish, which was the angel hair pasta and shrimp, was $26. First disappointment was there were probably a total of three shrimp that were cut into pieces and dispersed through the pasta. Second disappointment was there was no sauce or anything on the noodles... it was absolutely dry. Only thing good about the dish was the garlic bread and I bet it was pre-made and frozen. So after spending $36 plus tip and fees, my total was around $47 for two horrible dishes. To top it all off, at about 3 A.M. I began to have food poisoning. That's how my entire night went and I regretted my decision to eat there even more. So if I can recommend it, from someone who travels and eats at restaurants a lot... do not order food here unless they make major changes. Side notes: the menus outside the building don't match the menus inside (not even close) and they have a plaque talking about their amazing sous chef that is supposedly there but is likely that he is not. This restaurant is located inside the Sheraton Palo Alto and as the name states it is right next to the pool aka poolside. There is plenty of seating as well as seating at the bar, and there is outdoor seating when the whether is nice. They have several televisions in the bar area so for those sports nuts you can pick and choose your sport. My daughter and I have eaten here several times while staying at the Sheraton as well as come in for the celebratory after game drink because our team has won or the "I can't believe it" drink because our team lost miserably. For breakfast you can order off the menu or partake in their buffet or order room service. And you can't beat the location if you're staying at the Sheraton as it's always just an elevator ride from your room. And we've done it all, drinks & dinner, drinks & appetizers, buffet breakfast, off the menu breakfast and room service. And it's all been good for the past 10 years so far. I definitely recommend this restaurant when staying at the Sheraton or even if you're not as the food, no matter what meal you're choosing, is good, the drinks are plentiful and the staff is pleasant. read more

Very disappointed with the service this time staying at the Sheraton. Lunch\dinner staff were ghosts during our meal. Waited over an hour for food and the restaurant was empty. There were plenty of staff in the back. We had to get up multiple times to go ask for ice tea refills, the check and to-go boxes. They still forgot to bring them after multiple requests. Breakfast was no different. Even more staff in the back talking loudly and socializing about tik-tok videos they were on their phones. Food was mediocre. During previous stays at this hotel, service and food were excellent. Not sure what changes have occurred, but it's very obvious it is not the same management. Definitely recommend finding food off site. read more

Decided to bring my nephew here for lunch since I was craving a salmon salad. We ordered a handful of things. Poolside Personal Pizza - nothing really special. More like a frozen pizza popped into the oven. But he liked it so no complaints. Salmon Salad - oh goodness, it was absolutely perfect. The salmon was cooked to perfection. It had a nice crunch without overcooking the inside. Mojito - delish Fruit salad (apple) - a little weird. I probably wouldn't recommend it for kids. Cheesecake - I mean it's cheesecake, of course it was good. Fruit bowl - the blueberries were perfect! I even wanted to ask where they got them. The service was nice. The Poolside Grill is one of the hidden treasures of Palo Alto. In 1999, I already had started an internet company called Internet Traffic School right after I graduated from Berkeley, but on the side I was buying internet domain names all related to compare. Like callcompare, bookcompare, insurancecompare, carcompare, homecompare, and on and on. I had accumulated about 1,000 of them in order to build a huge comparison shopping network called Compare It All. The general idea was that if anyone typed in shoe or book or car, the spiders would pick up all of the related sites and drive the entire network up the search engine lists until it reached the top of each category. It was a great idea and had huge potential... unfortunately I was about 4 years ahead of my time because there was no way to monitize it before google came along. Today, it would be making millions with ad-sense running along side the various comparison product prices. But I'm getting ahead of myself. In the summer of 1999, I took a class at Stanford called, "How to Finance Your Internet Startup" while at the same time, a friend who worked at Wilson Sonsini was shopping my idea around to angel investors. He ended up finding some while Wilson Sonsini offered me $1,500,000 for the whole set of domains before I even got started. Foolishly, I turned down the bird in the hand for $200 million in the bush. Oh well, come se, come sa. Make a million, lose a million. It's only money. I still consider myself a winner because I had the traffic school as a backup which has been very good to me and also if it hadn't been for the angel investors wining and dining me, I never would have heard about the Poolside Grill. I got taken here and fell in love immediately. The Poolside and I were made for each other. Wonderful food, white tablecloths, excellent waiters and a relaxed atmosphere next to a huge, clean, clear pool inside a plant filled atrium. It's so hidden away that if you don't stay at the hotel and don't have an inside track to hear about it, you would never know. The eggs benedict are delectable. So creamy and fresh. Just perfectly poached eggs set on crispy, not soggy English muffins with circles of smoked ham in between. The hollandaise sauce added like snow on a mountaintop... textured and spiced so that it does not overpower but melds in lockstep with the runny yolks. Coupled with the sounds of running water and chirping birds it is heavenly. On the side, are almost raw, yet warmed to remain crunchy vegetables; carrots, cauliflower, green beans, broccoli. And if you ask them they will give you a side container of the sauce so that it can be lightly poured on them as well. I recommend doing that, it just adds to the experience. If you desire drinks, they have amazing mimosas, screwdrivers, Bloody Mary's, Gin and Tonics, champagne. The list goes on and on. For me, the coffee is what I choose because for some reason it just tastes better when slowly sipped while outside in the fresh breeze under the canopy umbrellas. Out of the pot, slightly acidic with a hint of cream and sugar, not so much to mask the essence of the excellent bean but to enhance it. Strangely enough, I have never taken a date here. Why I don't know as it would be perfect. First, breakfast at Poolside, then a wonderful walk down University Avenue, a stop in the Stanford Bookstore or a quick look at the classic movies list at the Stanford Theatre, then perhaps a drive around the campus to look inside the breathtaking University church for some digital photographs to take, then observe individually as to their uniqueness and quality. Or even a discussion of why they were taken. Another possibility, if open, a tour of the incredible Cantor Museum just off of the Main Quad. Just potential offshooots of a special-day beginning birthed at Poolside. read more

I have been to this restaurant twice, and ordered the exact same thing for dinner both times. The reason I will continue to come back is because the food is good. The restaurant is always empty, so that was a little alarming when I first came here, and the wait staff took their time with our orders, the food, and basically everything else. When the food finally came, we were pleasantly surprised at how well prepared everything was! The salmon was cooked to perfection (not too dry, still moist and flaky), the pasta was cooked with a rich cream sauce and the seafood was good. The food will continue to lure me back to this location, and parking is never an issue here. So if they can fix their issue with the long wait times, they will earn 5 stars from me. read more

My mother was visiting from out of town for Christmas, and we were looking for a nice place to have Christmas dinner. We had originally booked on Open Table at the Westin next door, but were subsequently informed that they would be closed that day. A staff member of the Sheraton took the initiative to contact us, offered us a table at the Poolside Grill for that night, and we gave it a shot. It was a fixed menu, and both my mother and I started with the wedge salad and then had the prime rib au jus. The prime rib was served with mixed vegetables and a baked potato that was loaded with sour cream and bacon, and was very tasty. It was a nice cut of meat, very little fat . For dessert, I had the pumpkin cheesecake and my mom had the pecan tart with rum sauce. These were both tasty as well. Beyond the high quality of the food, we were both very impressed with the attentiveness of the service we got that night. Multiple restaurant staff members served us during our meal, made sure that we had everything we needed, and were very friendly throughout. I strongly recommend the Poolside Grill! read more

I've eaten here countless times for breakfast buffet (seriously like 150 times - wish I was kidding). My fave things about this breakfast - They have premium fruit (raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries) and not bullsh!t melon platters like other hotels - made to order omelettes with lots of topping options (ham bacon spinach onion mushroom tomato peppers cheddar and some other stuff I don't usually get) - fresh waffles. Top that bad boy with some premium fruits and whipped cream and you are SET - coffee is pretty good (Starbucks) as is the OJ and tea options - staff makes sure you're always set. Every staff member serves every customer which makes it super efficient. Never waiting for anything - I eat here before work, and I spend like 7 minutes in the restaurant total. And that includes waiting on my fresh omelette. - when I'm done with breakfast they always set me up with a coffee to go so I have something to drink when I'm sitting in traffic on 101 - rest of buffet is good too. On a nice day, you definitely need to sit outside. The vibe is so relaxing. It was just what I needed for a Sunday morning. I ordered the Joe's Special with sauteed mushrooms and jack cheese. It was so good! And the portion was a good size as well. The hash browns came crispy with a dollop of butter on the top. So many calories, but the buttery goodness was well worth it. My girl friend's husband wasn't so happy with his corned beef hash. The portion was really small and I guess it tasted like canned corn beef, so stay away from this dish. The only thing that was really lacking here was the service. The waiters were kinda slow and not really on top of their game. I alwayz had to ask for a coffee refill and our waiter completely forgot about the second bloody we ordered. All in all, good food, but not so good service. read more

The staff was very friendly. But I should have noticed that the place was almost empty when I walked in at 6:30. I was too tired from traveling all day to explore anywhere outside the hotel. So I thought great, I'll have a nice quiet fancy dinner on my own before turning in early. I ordered a glass of wine, the deviled eggs as an app and the Mediterranean kale and quinoa salad. Sadly, the best part was the bread and the foil wrapped pat of butter. What made up for everything was the sweet host who noticed I had hardly touched my salad and offered to replace it with something else. I said no thank you and had the rest of the deviled eggs and wine. The waiter brought the check and took off the 20-something dollar salad. The Poolside Grill has been an institution in Palo Alto for as long as I can remember, and that's a long time! :-) This is the best breakfast place in the area hands down. On the weekends in Spring and Summer be prepared for a wait to sit poolside, but it's worth it. Great coffe, scrumptious mimosa's and delicious food. Have gone a couple of times for lunch and dinner, but really it's all about the breakfast. I'm thinking we're about due for a visit. read more

I've been going to the Poolside Grill restaurant in the courtyard of the Palo Alto Sheraton Hotel for many years. I've taken my staff for appreciation lunches and go there for dinner with my husband and friends. It has a quiet peaceful ambience. You can hear the soft music and carry on normal conversations. The food is very good, the service is gracious and the prices reasonable. In the warm weather, they open the glass doors that look out onto the pool area, letting the outside in.
