They had my favorite wine, Cakebread Cellars.
Janice B.

We stayed at the Sheraton for 2 nights while my husband attended meetings at Stanford University. We arrived on Sunday afternoon and had cocktails and a cheese plate in the bar. Kevin was our bartender and was very welcoming. We also met Tony, a server from Poolside Grill. He was so friendly and his attitude was contagious so we quickly made up our mind to have dinner at the Grill. They have my very favorite wine, Cakebread Cellars, which made me very happy! We ordered the flatbread to share and it was really good, made even better by the awesome service provided by Tony. We had the breakfast buffet both mornings that had a good offering. The eggs didn't really appeal to me, I think they may have been powdered eggs. The fruit selection was nice and the service by the ladies in the morning was phenomenal. I had the sliders for lunch while enjoying the sunshine and the pool. I can't say enough good things about them, yummy! The second night we shared a salad and the haddock with another bottle of Cakebread. The salad was fresh and crisp, the haddock was cooked perfectly and all was served by the awesome Tony. The second day I ordered the turkey club which came with an insane amount of fries. I ended up only eating half of it. All things considered, we really enjoyed the food and service at the Poolside Grill. So nice to just stay on the property and have meals. We definitely recommend this restaurant.

So glad to have tried the poolside grill while at the Sheraton, Freindly and attentive staff, clean environment and sanitizing between customers . The food was delicious and moderate prices . We had the Eggs Benedict and 2 egg breakfast, coffee and juice all delicious and full of flavor. Recommend a visit when in the area . Special treat we saw one our favorite jazz artist Terrace Martin at the poolside grill . Too excited missed getting food pictures lol.

It was a huge mistake ordering from the Poolside Grill. It was the day before surgery and I wanted to save myself some work finding other food, so I ordered over the phone from my room and said I'd walk down and get it (or else it's a $3 delivery and 19% automatic gratuity). As a person that tips based on service, I didn't feel comfortable with a flat rate. After ordering at 7:45 P.M. and it finally being 9, I called and asked if my food was ready since they never called to let me know. They said no and to wait another 15 minutes. By 9:40 I called again since they still didn't call me and it was not done STILL. I told them I'd be down in ten minutes because I'm almost at my cutoff for eating (because of surgery). I waiting in their lobby for 5 minutes before anyone greeted me, then waited another ten minutes for my order. Let me tell you when I opened my food in my room and compared to cost I was extremely disappointed. The chips and salsa, which I was hoping would be home made salsa, were store bought and soggy. That dish was $10 and over priced. I wouldn't even pay $10 for that plate in Las Vegas. The second dish, which was the angel hair pasta and shrimp, was $26. First disappointment was there were probably a total of three shrimp that were cut into pieces and dispersed through the pasta. Second disappointment was there was no sauce or anything on the noodles... it was absolutely dry. Only thing good about the dish was the garlic bread and I bet it was pre-made and frozen. So after spending $36 plus tip and fees, my total was around $47 for two horrible dishes. To top it all off, at about 3 A.M. I began to have food poisoning. That's how my entire night went and I regretted my decision to eat there even more. So if I can recommend it, from someone who travels and eats at restaurants a lot... do not order food here unless they make major changes. Side notes: the menus outside the building don't match the menus inside (not even close) and they have a plaque talking about their amazing sous chef that is supposedly there but is likely that he is not. The only good thing about this restaurant are the nice employees.

Mother's Day brunch 2017

Beautiful mother's day brunch, plentiful food and dessert, rose for mom, and the pool side view was icing on the cake. Mom loved it! Everyone wins. We stayed here and got extra SPG points too.

So yummy

Decided to bring my nephew here for lunch since I was craving a salmon salad. We ordered a handful of things. Poolside Personal Pizza - nothing really special. More like a frozen pizza popped into the oven. But he liked it so no complaints. Salmon Salad - oh goodness, it was absolutely perfect. The salmon was cooked to perfection. It had a nice crunch without overcooking the inside. Mojito - delish Fruit salad (apple) - a little weird. I probably wouldn't recommend it for kids. Cheesecake - I mean it's cheesecake, of course it was good. Fruit bowl - the blueberries were perfect! I even wanted to ask where they got them. The service was nice. Our waiters were cool and they made sure we were taken care of.

We stayed at the Sheraton last night and had breakfast at the Poolside Grill. Very pleased with the omelet bar.....very fresh ingredients. Orange juice and coffee were outstanding. The fresh fruit on buffet was excellent.....fresh blueberries, raspberries and strawberries were available. Little pricey at $24/person. Was very convenient.

M L.

Food was disappointing. I ordered a salmon nicoise salad ($23), and it was drenched in dressing and the spinach in it were not fresh. The piece of overcooked salmon on the bed was sad. The service was the tip of the iceberg of my unpleasant experience. The server came only once to refill my water, and what was more appalling was the fact that he came to drop the check 15minutes into my meal, WITHOUT me asking for it. I spent well over $30 for lunch, and I definitely expect more for that!

As a speakeasy enthusiast myself I definitely agree to the fact that it is "hidden" but also it does kinda give corporate vibes a little bit - maybe we can say they "gentrified" the speakeasy experience which is honestly so funny for Palo Alto. But anyways I don't think a classification should stop you from visiting it. The food is actually surprisingly really good. We came with a pescatarian and honestly while the offerings for snacks were a bit slim, every option was really good. I feel like this was the first time where I understood the price even the the quantity is no where close to be desired. One shrimp is like $6 and I was like whoah. Service is definitely more laid back and it's overall just like a more chill atmosphere. I'm fortunate to work nearby so I'll definitely visit this place a few times after work to blow off some steam... And the drinks! Yes they are good! They are also quite strong! Would come back again but also if you're conscious of budget then I'm not sure if you'll find the same value proposition.

Food: 3 / 5 Service: 3 / 5…read more Ambiance: 2 / 5 Let's start off by making sure that we're all on the same page... This is NOT a speakeasy. Using that language sets up an expectation that neither the ambiance nor the vibe is able to live up to. I can only assume that those reviews that commend this place as a speakeasy have never actually been to a real speakeasy and are more accustomed to box restaurants and bars. I sat at the bar and ordered a bourbon neat with a water back. There were three staff members behind the bar, none of them were particularly friendly or outgoing, which as someone who worked in the industry for years is surprising as a new establishment. Even though it was happy hour time, it was a Wednesday the place was less than half full and good servers /bartenders normally add to the experience and help creat a customer base of regulars to sustain business after the "come see" crowd is over. I ordered d' nuts as a snack and they weren't very special, even a bit overcooked / burnt. Maybe this place is exciting for a Palo Alto crowd that doesn't get out much, especially on the stretch of California given the lack of competition. My guess is that after a few months they will be hard-pressed to find a steady crowd.

The service was excellent as the waiters frequently checked on us and refilled our water, wiped the table and cleared the plates. They were not very familiar with children so I don't think it's recommended for going with kids, as they took away my 2 year old's plate and cutlery and I needed to ask for it back so she could eat on something. They don't have baby plates/utensils available. They did have high chairs available. They box up food for you if you take home leftovers. Bathroom was nice. I got 2 quesobirria tacos and 2 tacos al pastor, and visually everything looked on point -- the plating was clean, tacos looked well-stuffed, and the birria tortillas had that nice golden crisp. But once we started eating, we all felt the same thing: the salsas were lacking flavor. And with tacos like these, good salsa takes everything to the next level. Here, it kind of held them back. They only gave me two tiny lime pieces, and I couldn't even get enough juice out of them to brighten up the tacos. Something so simple, but it makes a huge difference. We also asked for chips and salsa (they're not free), and they never came. Honest mistake -- they were cool about it and took it off the bill -- but still, it added to the overall experience. Another thing: the nopales weren't well cooked or prepped. They had that slightly tough, raw texture instead of the tender, seasoned bite they should have. Flavor-wise, the pastor and birria were decent, but with weak salsa and barely any lime, it felt incomplete. All four of us agreed on the same thing: This place could be great if they tighten up their salsas and the little details. I'd give them another shot someday because the base is there -- they just need that extra punch of flavor to really elevate their tacos.

I was excited because the…read morebuilding was one of the first places the Grateful Dead played in and I assumed the establishment therein would inherit or be somewhat true to the deadhead vibe. I was the Designated Driver so I ordered an Iced Tea while others in the group ordered expensive double whiskeys and top shelf cocktails, The owner of the bar comes up to me and says, and I quote, " I paid 1.5 million dollars for this bar, you can't come in here and order iced tea, It's not a coffee shop, you need to order something more expensive" Despite a lifetime of experience of ordering food and drink, apparently I ,the customer, ordered wrong. Not having Iced Tea at a bar is like not having vanilla at Baskin Robbins. There are non-alcoholic drinks here which I was well aware of, but mocktails are usually full of sugar or zero-proof alcohols which often taste like salted donkey anus, So that's not happening with me. After taking a second to process, I put 2 & 2 together and thought this was a money issue, So I said "I don't care, charge me whatever, but I would like an iced tea" and the response from the owner was " I don't care, GO FUCK YOURSELF, GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY BAR" as he pulled all of the entire groups drinks back over the bar and started gesticulating wildly. At which point further "Pleasantries" were exchanged across the bar and at the end of it all no additions to police records were incurred and we parted ways. This gatekeeping and aggressively inappropriate behavior seemed wildly incongruent with the mantra of "What would Jerry do" ( Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead ). Regardless, I am never going there again, nor their sister restaurant Bistro Vida. This pretentious, overpriced, clown show of a venue can collapse in on itself as far as I care. The bars decor of cosplaying as a secretive 1920's speakeasy burnishes the venue's lack of differentiation which is in direct conflict with the bars new money aspirations of being elite or exclusive. The ridiculous idea that the owner spent X dollars necessitates you ,the customer, spending Y dollars breaks all social conventions that I have known throughout my entire life. There is no reason for a host/owner to behave like a foul mouthed spoiled child when asked for the basest of requests. The kicker is that this is not new behaviour from the owner and has been a long running aspect of the business https://yelp.to/rVUTLHQ53y ( review from 9 months from my encounter ) I refuse to support businesses that don't respect their customers.
