Who dunnit??? I ain't sayin' nuttin' bub. A long time ago I told my wife about murder dinner theater. It must have stuck in her head because she just surprised my daughter and myself with with a surprise dinner for the 3 of us. All I can recommend is go there now get your tickets early and with the holidays coming get Is them real early. As you come in to the hotel at 1st it's the LA Meridian. It's on the 2nd floor in San Francisco.. But look for other locations around the Bay area this isn't their only venue. But we took the elevator up and came in and were immediately greeted by a hostess.. We were on time but many guests had already arrived early like us. We were seated immediately at our table. While we were setting up and introducing ourselves to a commentator it's too late common table which was shared with people we didn't kno a man came up and introduced himself douche himself as the chief detective. We knew that it didn't start once you, it began. It began when you entered the dining area. Appropriate here to quote Sherlock Holmes "something was afoot." At this point I already knew that I needed to conduct myself as a detective and record everything that seemed unusual or out of place. That would include people I suspect as actors people at my table and people in the room. This is where I'm not going to give you any more information. I want you to have the opportunity of your own self discovery. In this Environment I had so much fun much fun sharing and collecting information with the people at the table. But they will warn you, don't trust everyone. And they were right. Before during and after the meal there are a couple breaks to allow you to eat and converse but it goes quickly. The the acting crew which was amazing was able to captivate your attention and discuss the murder scene with the room letting you decide who you think the murderer was. The way everything was integrated it was a great way to to have a wonderful meal you'll and enjoy myself with the entertainment. I have to say that I personally guessed who done it. (pats self on back). Bravo to our actors and all the info they must weave to complete the story. Lots of laughs. And the audience was part of the show. Special mention to the cast. Tracy Laydon our Host, Riki Juster our co-host, Randy Soloman and Kurt Weitzman our detectives, Dave Mills , Pamela Ignacio, Jane Stevens,as suspects. Heck. I even became a suspect. LOL. BRAVO to the Fun Cast. WE WILL RETURN to see you. I will name our outing .... "The Return of the Revenge of the Coming Soon Trio Murder Diner Guests - Part II."

However, for $200+ per person, I was disappointed in the food, seating and limited types of acrobatics in the show. The dinner seating was very very cramped, not how it looked to me on the seating chart. (The general admission seating with no dinner looked more comfortable!) I could barely get into my chair between the two people next to me. The chairs were tall hardwood barstools with no back, which were very uncomfortable. The beef and polenta dinner tasted like dog food out of a can! I could not eat it, although some people did. The dessert was served in a stale ice cream cone. Only water was included with the expensive meal; drinks were extra and expensive. The circus consisted mostly of Ariel acrobatics, risqué costumes, some nudity, and a little bit of dramatic story telling in between. As I said, the band was excellent, although the vocals could have been more prominent in the sound mix. Sorry, I really wanted to support this kind of live theater and they did make a good effort, but it was too expensive and it just fell short.

The only movie theater that it's actually worthwhile to get there early for. As much as I love the place, I can't rightfully give it five stars anymore. I'm not sure if corporate buyout is the sole reason or if things were trending this way anyways for theaters, but some of the small touches that made the place so special seemed to have changed. First, the ordering structure has changed. Previously, you would write your order down on a little piece of pen and paper that are provided to you and press a call button. A server would come, take your paper order and be off quickly. Now, with the remodeled recliner chairs, that option has gone away. Ordering has to now be done via your phone, which means you have to take out your phone in the middle of the movie and go through that process if you want. It's cumbersome, more distracting from the movie experience and honestly causing me to order.MUCH less. I recognize the money saved by hiring less people to serve the theater, but there has to be a significant loss in revenue from food and drinks. The older method was a lot more fun, and the tables had a more classic wooden vibe as opposed to the more plastic feel currently. On top of that, it feels like the drink options have gone down with less beers on tap and less food specials. All in all, I still love the majesty of the place, but I'm a little less eager to go.

This place used to be great: a renovated golden-age movie palace becomes a modern theater where you…read moreget cocktails and reasonable food brought to your seat. You'd show up early because the pre-show consisted of a quirky thematic reel related to the main feature, which felt like it had been assembled by people who are actually into movies. These trailers would end with a stern warning to keep your phone silent and out of sight during the movie, to avoid distracting fellow moviegoers. A human being would greet you, check your ticket, tell you about the menu tucked under your seat's tray table (with a subtle light to help you read it during the movie without disturbing others), take your food and drink order, and instruct you how to place additional orders during the show. At the end, they'd bring you the bill. All in all, you felt like you were getting an experience curated by and operated by movie fans, for movie fans; and that someone at the business actually cared that you had a good experience. Fast forward to tonight. The menus are gone: now you scan a QR code, and laboriously type your credit card number into your phone. (Gone is the admonition to put away your phone during the movie - how else can you order more stuff?) Now of course everyone has phones out during the movie, because if it's the only way to order stuff, the temptation to also check your whatsapp, shein offers, insta, telegram, and other alerts is simply too great to resist. At the end of the movie you get...another text, saying that if you don't manually use your phone's web browser to close out your tab, it will close automatically with a 20% tip (computed, of course, not on the subtotal but on the total including taxes and mandatory SF city surcharges). At no time did I interact with a human being. The usually lively Bulls & Bears bar downstairs was nearly deserted. I now see why. To use Cory Doctorow's term, the ens****ification of Alamo Drafthouse has begun. After the movie I asked a lobby employee if there was a way to give feedback. Long story short, they said the chain had recently been acquired by Sony™©® Global Empire Of Intergalactic Entertainment Co. Inc. Ltd. (I'm embellishing) and they had made a number of decisions that were beyond the control of the individual locations. I Am Gladdened To Hear That Sony™©® Has Expanded Its Global Entertainment Reach With This Acquisition And I Hope They Manage To Seriously Extract A Flick Ton Of Shareholder Value From It Before They Completely Destroy A Great Brand. And Yes, I Know I Am Capitalizing Every Word. It's For The Algorithms. You might as well have told me the place burned down tonight - I'd fell about the same as I do after tonight's experience.

When I met him in person, I was captivated by the acts and how approachable Andrew was. He's so friendly and just easy to talk to. He also puts on a great show. I was entertained the whole time and there wasn't a dull moment. His theater is cozy, but thoughtfully decorated. I also like how the front part is a candy shop and there's a "hidden" door leading to the actual performance area. The venue is also BYOB. We started planning the surprise party many, many months in advance and Andrew was great at communicating and keeping me in the loop. He even helped coordinate the guests and got them into position while I was leading the guest of honor to the venue. In addition, Andrew offered to help oversee the catering orders, but I ended up deciding to handle that on my own (with the help of a couple friends). The big day finally came and went and my partner was delighted by all the tricks. Andrew graciously gifted us bags of candy and also supplied some additional snacks (chips and peanut m&ms). The ONLY thing I missed compared to the initial performance was the secret cocktail trick (which I think my group would have absolutely died over). If you're thinking about checking out a magic show, don't sleep on The Magic Patio. You'll be in for quite the treat!

My second visit was for Hocus Pocus, and it didn't live up to the first. The drinks tasted watered down, the food was mediocre, and the dessert was completely flavorless. My third experience was supposed to be The Nightmare Before Christmas, but it was canceled and I was given a code for a future film. I used that code for Beauty and the Beast and was so excited--only to receive another cancellation email. Since this was the second movie that got canceled, I didn't feel comfortable taking yet another code, so I requested a refund instead. It's now been over two months, and I still haven't received it. Don't get me wrong--as a Disney lover, I think this concept is such a fun idea. But it feels like it may have run its course. For the price, I expected a lot more consistency in both quality and communication. Ironically, my best experience was Ratatouille, but I had to go to LA to see it because it wasn't offered in my area at that time. It's really frustrating that if you have known issues within the company, be more transparent and upfront about it earlier. The only thing they're offering is a refund, not even a coupon for later, which goes to show they're probably not doing another showing. So if you're in the Bay, I'd suggest not purchasing until they sort out their internal issues.

Her Rebel Highness is a fantastic group of amazing singers, who are also trained dancers. I was deeply enchanted by their stunning costumes as well! They delivered a truly unique blend of pop and classical music, while busting out of the box to incorporate themes related to empowering women. Which I can definitely get behind. I was surprised to see that their audience was a wide a range as I could imagine, from little girls who love the princess theme and costumes, to drag queens who love it for the same reason! But I also met people who were there to see their serious vocal technique and inventive tonal blending. I found Her Rebel Highness to be a lavish, funny and really heart warming group. But since the company was only renting the venue, and it wasn't being organized and run by the venue itself, I figured it'd be ok. Drinks were expensive: $16 for a beer and a Tanq n' Tonic. The atmosphere before and during most of the show was kinda dead. The actor playing Henry Barnes tried to raise the energy of the audience, but there just weren't enough people (and the people that were there were all middle-aged and older, and not inclined to be very lively). My boyfriend and I got discount tickets through my membership with Theatre Bay Area. The tickets were Earl/Countess tickets (normally $65e) and were said to include VIP seating, complimentary "regal" hors d'oeurves, dessert, 1st in line for photo ops after and a "royal" souvenir. But there was no VIP seating that I could locate. The hors d'oeurves were open to anyone, no matter how much you paid for your ticket. They were nothing special, however - bite sized puff pastries with sausages in them, or a little bit of herb spread on top, little pieces of toast topped with shrimp, and frosted grapes; The dessert was flat shortbread cookies shaped like crowns, topped with a lot of hard frosting and sprinkles. They seemed like something that you'd buy at Safeway. We didn't stay for the photo op or the souvenir. The show itself was an artsy show - the kind of performance created by artists - meant to display the art forms (in this case, dance and music) rather than tell an engaging story. Not the kind of show that I was expecting, but I was able to appreciate the talented voices and fun costumes.
