The staff at Mercado 20 are lovely, and the seats are luxurious. It's just a tragedy that the venue serves as the local sanctuary for society's most feral, unevolved mouth-breathers. Every screening feels less like a cinema experience and more like an sociological study in basic human failure. You get to enjoy a constant, relentless soundtrack of wet, open-mouthed chewing, manic wrapper-shredding, and mindless, droning dialogue from people who evidently lack an internal monologue. It takes a special kind of ignorance to sit in a dark room with two hundred strangers and act like you're alone in your living room, yet Mercado 20 consistently attracts the absolute elite of that demographic. Management seems content to let the auditorium revert to a dark cave of barbarism without lifting a finger, even when complaints are dropped right in their lap. AMC Mercado 20 is a decent movie theater. I've been coming here to watch movies on various days & times these past two decades. Must love huge public parking lots all around the plaza and walkable distances to restaurants, including Paris Baguette bakery doors away. Who doesn't want to go to a movie theater near foods and retail stores? Good spot for meet ups and gatherings too. We never had any issues using kiosks to pick up movie tickets and staffs inside are friendly and helpful. Spacious. You can even sit inside the lounge or order a drink or two as desired. I'm glad that they've been around for so long now and it's a great spot for new movie opening nights & even foreign films at times. I think they have made improvements to the public restrooms and seats are usually comfortable with heat option as needed. Concession area is grand with AMC foods and beverages/not cheap in prices though. Yes, it's such a popular movie theater location that waiting for foods and beverages can take awhile sometimes, but it's mostly straightforward here. We always come happy and leave happy, especially for late night showings. read more

This is a clean spacious movie theater with luxury seating. It's so comfortable if a film has a lull, it's easy to pass out and fall asleep :) The seats are spaced out for privacy and I like that. The seats are configured where nobody tall gets in the line of vision, nobody can sit behind you and kick your seats, and nobody next to you can overflow and have their warm body like an arm or and belly fat rolls touch you. The concessions stand has fully stocked stuff to eat and they push the "souvenir popcorn buckets and movie swag for big dollars that's easy to justify not buying "that Spider-Man Head Popcorn Bucket" for $35 or that Star Wars Mandalorian and and Grogu "At At Walker Popcorn Bucket" 'tho it's tempting... My ol' reliable AMC. I've been coming here for as long as I can remember and have seen it slowly improve firsthand over the years. In terms of amenities and grandeur, it's easily the second-best AMC theater in the South Bay. The parking lot is huge and can get busy during peak hours, but you won't have any issues on weekdays or late at night since there's really not much else to do in the plaza besides going to In-N-Out. The concessions area is centrally located but pretty small. The A-List priority line is about half the size of the regular line, though it's pretty clear the staff doesn't really prioritize one over the other. Most of the auditoriums have been renovated, and in my experience, even the standard-format theaters have reclining seats. Not really much else to say. It's comfortable, convenient, and dependable. This is and will probably always be my go-to movie theater. read more

This isn't my first choice AMC theater and that's mostly because the parking can be atrocious because of the In-N-Out. And just in general. Sometimes if there's a event at Levi's, or whatever it just gets really hectic. That being said, my friends and I do come here, pretty often, because they have really good showtimes and plenty of showtimes for the specific movies who wanna watch. Did the Tuesday special and went to see Sheep Detectives. Packed house but we were able to find some seats near the middle back (off set by a couple seats but no biggie). You can purchase tickets in front or through the kiosk they have. Just walk in and they scan your ticket. It was like 1 line and 1 person scanning, but I'm sure they amp this up on other more busier nights. I do love the open outdoor ceiling with the circular area with some small trees and greenery. It's nice. Concession is sort of self serve I think? I got a large popcorn hot off the press and walked over to pay for it, but I wonder if it gets too busy that some people just grab things and walk through. They do have a Coca Cola Freestyle machine that does limited movie themed drinks which is nice. Seats are the newer reclining ones and screen is resolution is crisp, sound is good with no contamination from other theater rooms. Bathrooms are a bit aged and back rooms looking (lol), but no issue. But I did see when I tossed trash away into the trash pit, there were clean paper towels stored next to it. This AMC theater was alright. Nothing too special, but not terrible either. The concessions were nice enough, and it seems to have some really nice theaters, but unfortunately, the one I was in was not the best. There was a weird spot on the screen where there was a double image/ghosting effect happening the whole movie. It wasn't always noticeable, but whenever there was something like text in that spot, it was really annoying. read more

This used to be a nice, newer theater, but these days, it's a little worn and tired and there's not much to distinguish it from other large multiplexes. Many of the theaters are small, but the presentation (sound, picture) were fine. We didn't get any food or drinks. Bathrooms were clean and plentiful. It's totally a fine theater to go to, just not any different from other similar not-really-new, nothing-really-special theaters. read more

The theatre was pretty empty, with only 3 other customers. The whole place, including the restrooms, were clean. The sound and picture quality was good; seating was very comfortable. They are full recliner seats with a heat button. The movie was a bit silly, but still watchable. Definitely my favorite AMC in the San Jose area. The theater feels much more modern and updated compared to the Eastridge location, which feels a bit outdated. It's also not always too busy, which makes going to see a movie a lot more enjoyable. I also really like the surrounding shopping center, so there's plenty to do before or after a movie. When we asked why AMC Sunnyvale has a table for customers to leave outside food/drinks but Mercado doesn't, those 2 just shook their heads and robotically repeated the policy with a dismissive, KNOW-IT-ALL attitude. YOUR ATTITUDE only deserve to work for some places don't require brain and attitude. Rules are rules, but customer service requires common sense--not acting like a machine following an equation. The most ridiculous part? They offered to "refund" our tickets even though we're A-List members. Refund what exactly? The policy wasn't the problem--the attitude was. Instead of acting and showing off your tiny knowledge...go and execute your job with checking the bathroom!!!! So dirty. read more

I'll give this a better than average rating, for the Tuesday night half-price ticket deal, but also specifically because this AMC location sometimes has obscure films not shown elsewhere. We saw a Thai film here once, and last night we saw The Christophers. It's a clean location, and the recliners were quite nice in our small theater. The trailers and ads lasted 23 minutes, which was too long, since two of the ads were for the theater chain we were already attending. Glad they finally ditched the full length Nicole Kidman ad, but they still have her in a shortened version, for no apparent purpose. Sound and picture were good. read more

Great theater in the South Bay. I've seen many movies there and love the convenience (parking, restaurants, coffee shops, etc.). I can't remember when theaters started selling alcohol, but that is another added benefit. The theaters themselves are good. Seats are comfortable, some recline and there seems to be more room for path of travel. The screens are big and picture & sound really immerse you into the movie--especially IMAX. Saw F1 and it was incredible. Don't know what is coming next, but whatever it is, I'll be at the Mercado. WOOOH!!!! read more

The sales desk was understaffed [1 employee] so we had to wait a good 5 min or more for him to figure out how to process the order of the people in front of us. Then when we bought our tickets he didn't tell us that they have closed caption devices for hearing-impaired customers nor was there any signage with that info, so we both relied on our hearing aids .... but then it turned out the sound volume in the theater was so loud and distorted that I couldn't understand most of what was said. Please renovate the women's bathroom. The women's restroom next to the Dolby theater #9 only has two stalls that lock, the handicap stall locks but you can the person using the stall directly in front of you, not a pleasant experience. read more

Gotta beat the heat by hitting a cool flick. We purchased tickets on line so we just walked right to the snack bar. The snack bar cashier was pleasant and joking around with us but then we had to wait a bit for our popcorn. The gourmet cheese was out of this world but sad that there were no refills. We couldn't even have a refill of the original unless we paid again. (If you pay for an original you get refills) Oh well. Definitely a little pricey: a large drink and large cheese popcorn for $25.79. The drink area wasn't too inviting as it had a sticky floor which is to be expected but not to the extent it was upon opening. The counter was over loaded with straw papers but I don't blame the establishment but filthy patrons. It may be a great idea to place an open garbage can in the area so one would have to walk into it. The theater was clean and lit just right so you don't stumble over your own feet. We went to see the Odyssey, and the screen size was a bit small, but what was worse was the sound system did not provide good subwoofer output and the overall voices were at times barely loud or clear enough to understand. The seats recline but they are not that comfortable, especially apparent in a long film like the Odyssey. I think we will go see the Odyssey at the SF Metreon to gauge the sound quality. The film was good but if you knew nothing about the story you would be very lost as the way it was portrayed it did not give enough explanation as the the story, etc. My home theater at home has a much better sound than this place... read more

AMC Mercado - 4 stars Our go to movie theatre. There has been an increase of car break ins so be aware. They do have a security guard that patrols but it's hard to look after the cars in the further back rows, or that's not under a bright light in visibly. The movie theatre itself is pretty well maintained. Certain theaters are smaller than others depending on the movie. They have your usual bar and ordering in the center between the two sides of the theatre. Afternoon time on weekends could get super crowded I notice. AMC Mercado 20 is my go-to theater for a great movie night. I have AMC Stubs A-List (even with the recent price increase), and for the number of movies my friends and I watch, it's still worth it. Mercado is one of the best locations in the area because it's right off the freeway, surrounded by plenty of food options, and has comfortable seating. All of the seats here recline, and even the laser theaters have seat warmers, which is a nice touch. Plus, they offer IMAX and Dolby, so there's always a premium option if you want an upgraded experience. It has aged a bit...it's not as new as the Sunnyvale location (not all of the seat work). From where we live in San Jose, this is the best theater in the area. The concessions process is streamlined, and check-in is always efficient. I've never had any major disruptions during a movie, which is a huge plus. Out of all the theaters nearby, this is definitely my favorite spot for a low-key night out. My partner and I purchased tickets to watch Despicable Me 4 in the Dolby Cinema room and the price totaled to $27 plus a $2 service fee from Atom (third party app). For a ticket that is around $30, I'd hope that the seats would be comfortable.. The theater itself is relatively decent and clean. The ticketing process is also pretty easy going. read more

So far I like this AMC theater it's short drive from my apartment because I recently moved from SoCal to the Bay Area still new around here I miss my theater in OC but this one is really nice and spacious compared to others. My only complaint is that I'm avoid coming here on Tuesday and Wednesday because of the discount tickets. I recently went with my husband to watch back rooms which he hasn't seen I've already seen it but anyway I don't understand why people are so rude there was this family on my left side kept talking so loud during the trailers like ok fine whatever but when the actual movie started they kept talking so loud I had to shush them because like dam how rude can you be if you didn't want watch this movie or talk during then stay at home some people want to see the movie. I'm a A List member I love the movie pass but I'm avoid coming on Monday and Tuesday because people don't have manners they act like it's their dam house . I've been to AMC Mercado many times and twice in the last month. Auditoriums: clean. Comfortable well kept reclining chairs. Didn't notice any worn out chairs as in other theaters I've visited recently. Concession: They don't offer dine in. They have more of the snack type food like nachos, sliders, pretzel and sodas. Ticketing: Nice that they waive the online fee if you're a club member. The lowest club membership, Insider, is free. Parking: can be difficult during peak hours as they share parking lot with restaurants and TJ Maxx Staff were nice and friendly. Gotta point out that I'm an AMC Stubs A-List Premier member, so I do go to the movies more often than most people. This is my go-to spot when it comes to cinema, but it's really starting to show its age, especially if you've been to the Sunnyvale location just a couple exits away. What's great about AMC Mercado is its location. There's a Walmart, In-N-Out, Smoke Eaters, Tomatina, and just about whatever you wanna eat within the same plaza. Drive out a little further and you have HiroNori Craft Ramen right there -- there's always something to do before and after the movie. The movie-viewing experience isn't what it once was, even with the fantastic Dolby Cinema option. A lot of the recliners no longer work and to make matters worse, the "joint" recliners that allow you to put the armrest up have no supporting backrest in the middle, leading to an uncomfortable experience if you're trying to cuddle up with your significant other. Aside from that, it's still a solid experience if you're there to watch a movie and not worry about your chair. The way they handle their concessions to me is the most ideal of all the AMCs I frequent, so that's nice. read more

We watched the new superman recently, and they turned the lights all the way up the second the credits rolled -- haven't seen that in a while. Overall: not the best theater, but not the worst. A big movie theatre that anchors this busy plaza. There's a few hiccups, but this place does the job. Tickets usually come out to $17 for Friday nights. They also have 30% matinee before 3 pm. The seats are heated recliners, but one of my friend's chairs were broken! He had to have good posture for the whole movie LOL Popcorn and snacks are pay & go. $17 for a large drink and popcorn combo is pretty insane... A SmartWater bottle is $6 too.
