Alamo is all about the experience so if you are going here for a bargain cinamatic experience you will miss the point. They have great food and an excellent beer selection. The staff are always hard at it working their butts off. You will want to reserve seats online prior to going. They even have events here for classic movies with signature items associated with that movie. I haven't tried everything but the items below are great. The pretzel is nice and soft. The dipping sauce is what made it special. A fancy spic mustard. The cashew chicken skewers we're very good a well. I haven't tried one bad item so everything seems pretty solid. What a horrible experience! We got to the theater early. Ordered early. My husband got his food. I never got mine. They gave my wings to the woman behind me. I heard her talking about how she didn't order and they were wrong. Seriously worst experience ever. If they would have had the hummus would have probably been okay but instead had mediocre food. We have been numerous times since opening day. I have no complaints on the food. (Okay, one time i ordered the fish and chips and they were pretty greasy. But that is the only food issue i have). The seats are comfy. i love pre-selecting my seats online. My rating of a 3-star is solely based on the service...OH MY NO! Service gets worse with every visit. Recently, we went and our theater was about 50% full at best. We ordered food and drinks at 11:50 (movie was at noon). Our food was a pizza and fried pickles. Drinks came within about 7-10 minutes which was fine. The other guests were getting food seemingly pretty quickly. At 12:50(an hour later) , I popped up a friendly note that said "we ordered a pizza and pickles a very long time ago" and added a sad face. At 1:20 (yet another hour later) we got our food. At 50% full, our order shouldn't have gotten lost in the shuffle. Our server failed to follow up on it and/or the cooks didn't prepare it because the food was listed twice on our receipt. Our theater was not so full that it would have been missed if our server was paying attention. When the receipt came, there was a note that she was sorry for the wait and that she had comped our drink (we ordered 2 drinks but only one was worthy of a discount I guess). I know they aren't a restaurant. However if I had to wait over an hour for simple food I for sure wouldn't be back to that restaurant. I want to love the Alamo. I do love the concept. To begin with this is a very nice place. I would go to the bar area just to drink regardless of a movie. Classy place, very nice people. The seats in the theater recline and are nice comfy leather. The service is extremely spot on also. I recently purchased tickets for the 17th but I didn't realize I showed up on the wrong day! They gladly re booked my ticked for the next day. The theater is nice. Huge. Maybe too big. It took 7 requests & 90 minutes to get ice water & sweet tea to our tray (not exaggerating). We got our food & my margarita in a timely manner. I love the Alamo. Like a lot. I want to start my review by first saying that I don't think the experience is for everyone and if you are willing to visit their website, read about how they do things and then prepare accordingly, you'll have a pretty good time. I am going to bullet all of the things I like: 1. I like that they offer a variety of movies that includes movies that are older or harder to see in current cinema. I am a film teacher at a local high school and it was incredible to get to see Metropolis on the big screen here in the SGF. Like a great experience that I am glad I got to be apart of. 2. I love the decor (2001: A Space Odyssey theme) and the overall process of how things are done. As a movie person, I enjoy their pre-show promos and I think the "no talking"/rules before every film is hilarious and something that makes the experience unique and different. 3. Their Alamo Victory App and Awards program is pretty awesome. I enjoy purchasing my tickets ahead of time and getting to choose my seats. I also like that I do not have to go to a box office to print a ticket. I can just seat myself in the theater and seats I am assigned and then show the waiter my e-ticket stub. Full disclosure, we have been to see enough movies since the Alamo opened that I have seen a lot of benefit from their awards program. We've been able to get free popcorn (birthday perk), a free ticket, a free showing of a film (with purchase of food), bogo entrees, etc. if you are movie theater trash (like me) and you literally live for seeing movies and drinking beer this is the theater with a pretty great rewards program to be involved in. 4. The food/service. Service can be up and down, but that is true for any restaurant or business establishment. We have learned a couple of things with each visit. For example, your odds of getting your order right increase if you get to the theater a little early and order with your server verbally. If we're going to eat dinner or lunch, we tend to go earlier so we can order and then relax while we wait. The servers will also offer to pre-swipe your credit card, which is great because then you do not have to worry about filling out the bill at the end of the film. They have great food! We like to order a pizza to share and a side of popcorn. We've had most of their sandwich offerings as well. Another piece of advice, make sure to ask for napkins. Their beer menu is extensive and good. They have lots of local options that rotate in and out. Don't be surprised if they are out of the first one you pick on the menu. I always have a backup choice. They have added pint sizes to the menu and that helps a lot when planning what to order. 5. The Back Lot. We love the bar atmosphere and we love the live music they play and the outdoor seating space I imagine will be great when the weather warms up. Overall, we think the Alamo is fun and always an enjoyable experience. My husband is not as crazy about movies as me but he is always willing to go and we always have a pretty positive experience. I realize it isn't for everyone but it is at least worth a try and maybe it will become your theater and maybe it won't. read more

I may be way out of line here, I honestly don't know. But I came just for a movie and knew that I absolutely did not want any food or drink. Eating food in the dark while watching a screen is not remotely appealing to me, personally. I let the "server" know from the beginning that I wouldn't need service and he was very gracious about it, but I'm hoping it wasn't an issue because of course they are bound to rely on tips. I felt sort of bad about this and not sure if it's absolutely beyond the pale or what. Anyway, I just came solo on Black Friday to a matinee to watch the film Lady Bird, which was excellent. I found the theater relatively unchanged from its days as the cut rate Wehrenberg Cine, which was fine by me. Very lush looking hallways and cushy seats, but otherwise pretty much the same. The under-lit small tables really didn't seem obtrusive to me in any way and the light didn't distract me at all. While I am probably a bit more of a hardcore movie goer who likes to focus 100% on the film and do not like to hear other people talking or see light from cell phones, I still think their policies are a bit on the strict side. I feel like if I was dropping cash on an actual meal and/or cocktails during my movie I'd expect to be able to chat a little, too. I just think it's a weird concept all around especially when the servers are crouching down and rushing to deliver food. Mostly I was concerned for them, as it didn't seem comfortable. I hesitate to even post this review because I probably sound like a weirdo for coming to Alamo Drafthouse without embracing the full experience. To be honest, I just wanted to see my movie and use a Fandango gift card, otherwise I would have gone elsewhere. I do super-love that they didn't paint over the lovely giant mural of horses on the backside of the building facing Campbell. I was so sure they would immediately do just that, but it seems if anything they have touched up the artwork, and wild horses remain. read more

Great concept. Terrible service. We ordered two popcorns, an order of chicken strips, a shake, and a coke. The bowls of popcorn came out 15 minutes apart. A coke refill took 20 minutes, but then was diet so after sending it back it took another 20 to get the only refill I had time for. The bill then included both the diet and the regular coke. They tried to bring us 3 separate orders of chicken strips. We were here 3 days ago and had ten people in our party. Despite everyone's seat being numbered, they kept delivering food to the wrong tables and we missed part of the movie making sure everyone got the right thing. The last person in our party was served their meal 20 minutes later than everyone else. We've been here other times and the service has never been good. You might see your waiter once or twice, but 6 different people bring things from the kitchen and have no idea what is going on. My popcorn refill came out with a second empty bowl. The server had no idea why he brought me an empty bowl. read more

I absolutely love the Alamo Drafthouse. I'm not embarrassed to say that I have been there four times in the last two weeks. I think the thing I love the most about it is the feeling of being fully relaxed while you watch the show. The seats are so comfortable, you can sit with your feet kicked up and a French press coffee in your hand. It's just the best. The food is also fantastic. So far I've only had the fried goat cheese salad and Brussel sprout pizza, but both of them were out of this world. The waitstaff is awesome. They're very attentive to your needs. Also, the pre-shows are wonderful. It's not just a bunch of boring advertisements. You are truly entertained from the time the lights go down until the time you walk out the exit. read more

It was a nice date night location, but i still probably won't be back for a while, if at all. The good stuff: Clean and updated, nice bar, great seats and movie quality. I printed the tickets off at work, so I never had to wait in line, i just had to go to my reserved seats and show my server. The tickets were $11 a piece so not a bad price for the actual movie. The bad stuff: While the bar is nice, I am not sure how they justify the price of the drinks. My wife had two (very weak) margaritas and I had a jack and coke (very weak as well) and a beer. Total price with tip $45. Also the glasses for the margarita and jack and coke were very small. My wife's second margarita was only about half full, but since it took our server 15 minutes to make it, and our movie was getting ready to start, we took it and left. While in the theater we ordered an appetizer of fries to share along with a soda and another beer.....with tip.....$28. The fries were delicious but the serving size was very small. And although the sodas have free refills, it took us 30 minutes.....again....30 minutes to get our only refill. They kept forgetting and we had to keep reminding them. It is a cool place but for two hours of entertainment a $100 price tag just didn't seem justifiable. Had the food and drinks been bigger and better then maybe. But for now, if I were to ever go back, it would be just to see a movie and nothing else. A dinner or bar somewhere else beforehand is just a better option then getting gouged on scrawny food and drinks. Glad we tried it but we'll probably just stick to Springfield 11 from now on. read more

Love going to the movies now and won't go anywhere else. Great atmosphere and good food and service. Can be pricey but worth it if you don't go to the movies frequently. We always use the mobile app to pay for specific seats in advance--well worth the extra couple dollars fee. They often have themed food for major releases and always have fun, on theme content on the screen before the movie starts, instead of sitting there listening to Muzak and watching random previews. My wife, our two kids, and I have been over a dozen times and rarely had any issue, nothing worth noting. If you want to save some cash, plan to eat a meal before/after but if you want the full experience order food while you're there. read more

Well, I am completely on board with evening age restrictions for an adult atmosphere, but the implementation is way off. Turned away at theater entrance (mind you, not the front, but where the kids can see the previews happening) by a rude manager who insisted age rule was clearly posted online. Maybe so on the actual computer (wouldn't know because I used my phone for tix), but def not on the mobile app. No double checking to show me himself, just rudely rushed refund, and lame apology without any offer to make it up in any way. The disappointment my kids had to deal with alone was enough to never take them again. I get that new businesses have kinks to work out, but bad customer service that isn't family friendly will make it hard to win back patrons in a place like springfield...good luck! read more

So first time at this theater: at first I was very impressed with service the cleanliness etc.... I had a shake... Really enjoyed it, our waiter was excellent... Unfortunately, someone said that my son and I were talking excessively during the film and we were warned that if we did not stop talking, we would have to leave as this would be our only warning. Sadly, my son and I were not talking at all... So this really irritated us and affected our entire experience. So while I understand the policy, there is little in the way of being able to defend yourself against a baseless accusation, or perhaps the manager coming to talk to the wrong people. Exceptional service from beginning to end. Our tickets got messed up and the staff went above and beyond to fix them. We loved the videos prior to the previews. We ordered pizza it was delicious. By far my favorite theatre to see a movie. Comfortable seats, very reasonable prices. No cellphone screens allowed on or talking during the movie. There is a bar if you wish to grab a drink. A decent sized menu to order food from to eat during the movie. The food is ordered and delivered from your comfortable reclining seat. And there is a small table to share between you and the person next to you. The movie theater also plays older movies from time to time. I watched a few special showings over the last month- Princess Bride, Real Genius, Big Trouble in Little China, Say Anything. I really enjoy Alamo Drafthouse! read more

Went for dinner and a movie. No marquee is available, you don't buy tickets at a window. Go inside with your online ticket receipt and go directly to your theater. The server checks your tickets then order from the menu asst the table in front of recliner seating. Order cashew chicken, it was delicious served on skewers and the meal was hot. The peanut butter milkshake was rich with chunks of nuts. Afterwards, the popcorn was served in a large metal bowl and very warm and buttery. Black and white striped walls look very clean and modern. The bar was large and opened up onto an outside patio. Overall, a very fun and enjoyable evening. read more

5 stars for waiter/waitress service 5 stars for their no talking texting policy (when correctly applied as it is in other Alamo theaters) 2 stars for the food 1 star for experience with a disabled-wheelchair bound individual unable to communicate I've been to several Alamo theaters in California, Colorado and now Springfield. I've always been a fan of their no talking no texting policy with all the individuals who can't seem to put down their phone for a few hours. Let me start by saying this is no Studio Movie Grill food wise. The food menu at Alamo is somewhat consistent and somewhat regional. An example regional item at the Springfield location is cashew chicken. Which isn't that great. I've found the food in Springfield to be subpar and much greasier. Besides the occasional squeaky shoes, the waiter and waitress service has always been great. Now on to my primary annoyance with this place. Their lack of accommodations for the disabled. These all may seem like minor things to someone who has never spent much time around the disabled but they all add up when you're living it. -There are ZERO automatic entry doors and staff is so unaware, they don't assist anyone who may be struggling to enter. It's a struggle to enter/exit. -It's difficult to push a wheelchair in/out of theaters due to a pronounced transition between the hallway and movie theater. Wheelchairs must be tilted backward to get in. -The wheelchair ramp space in the parking lot isn't enough space for side lift vehicles. -Managers enforce the no talking no texting policy for the disabled during previews when the lights are still up (happened today!). WHAT??!! You heard me right. The disabled are held to a higher standard than anyone else in the theater during preview time before the movie starts. -Spoons/straws must be requested with meals -For individuals who can transfer out of their wheelchairs, the table is attached to the chair so it makes it very difficult for anyone with mobility challenges. -Their Alamo for All showings are always super early during the day (so parents who work - this isn't an option during the week). It's also not an option for a disabled adult who is living in a group home or relies on caretakers since those individual's are typically starting their shifts at the time the movie is scheduled. If you've read this far, I commend you. In summary, this place is great for an average joe. If you are taking someone with mobility challenges or communicates differently than the average joe, save your money find somewhere else. read more

Great movie watching experience paired with a great meal. When you walk into this building, you can see it's built by people that love movies. Theaters are equipped with leather recliners, bright, sharp screens, and excellent audio systems. Movies begin with themed pre-shows of classic cartoons, movie, or TV clips vs. your standard ads and trivia nonsense. Meals and drinks are served to you by a wait staff that responds to notes you leave at tables attached to your seats. Great shakes, pizza, and bottomless buttered popcorn. Food came out less than luke warm and when I was asked how everything was and I said fine but would have been better if food was warm....I got a blank stare, no apology nothing. Seats are nice, water cups on tables in way of viewing-too tall. Light too bright under tables lighting up patrons feet and shining in eyes. Will be watching movies at home in own recliner with better food. Money not well spent on a frustrating movie experience. Don't bother unless you reserve seating 12 hours in advance, they let people reserve seating so you can't just walk up and get in with more that one person. This actually would be a 5 Star review but... My husband needs handicapped seats and they will let anyone take up the lobby level seats. Today, we called to ask about seats available for a movie and had to leave a message. We head that way and wait for the call to be returned. We drive an hour with no call and find out the handicapped seating is sold out again. Well, here it is 5 hours later and still no call. Back home, no movie and no yummy snacks. I have nothing bad to say other than I'll never go to a movie anywhere else. How can you beat a delicious dinner (drinks too) being brought to you while you enjoy your movie?? And the chairs are very comfortable! The only down side is I'm so comfortable that on date night I put myself to bed and take a very expensive nap at this place... the goat cheese salad and Thai chicken pizzas are my favorite. We went on the Fan night showing of Die Hard. Not so sure I'd like the normal movie nights because of some of the restrictions, but the interactive parties are awesome! The only actual food we got was the bottomless popcorn, but getting popcorn with real proper butter was an amazing experience. We didn't quite have enough salt (they give you that seperate), but we just wrote it on a note w/ our next drink order, and they brought some more right out to us. Food prices seemed reasonable, and all of the drinks were fantastic. I love that the beers and a lot of the other products are locally sourced. Chairs are wonderfully comfy.
