I had a very positive experience at the Alamo car rental at Albany airport. I booked the rental through Costco Travel and filled out the information form for my flight number since we were arriving late at night and I was worried about a flight delay possibly leaving me stranded. They assured me that they stayed to cover customers whose flights were delayed- that peace of mind was important, although we didn't need to rely on it after all. The rental pickup is a short walk across the street from baggage claim. The agents were friendly and efficient. Did not try to sell me things that I didn't want. They provided an adapter for my phone cable and helped me make sure I was able to hook into my phone guidance before leaving. The car was clean and in excellent condition. We had a WONDERFUL experience with Alamo at Albany Airport. Kieran (manager) was so helpful in finding a Cooperstown souvenir that was left in the car when we dropped it off. He went well above and beyond to retrieve and return an irreplaceable item to us and I could not be more thankful! 10/10 would recommend Alamo and will definitely rent through Alamo the next time we need a car. our flight was delayed so I called ahead to let them know we would be arriving after normal business hours. I was informed that since I checked in my reservation ahead and gave my flight number a team member would wait up to 2 hours after close for us to arrive. we arrived an hour after normal business hours But they were closed and no team members were there. I called the main phone number again and was told the same thing and that this was company policy. The representative on the phone said there was nothing he could do though and no one he could call. We ended up having to get 2 Ubers totaling $200 to take us to our destination. Our Uber driver said this happens all the time. read more

When I arrived, the line was extremely long and there was only one woman working the desk. I've been on the phone communicating with Alamo which had gotten me no where. Before my trip I was genius and forgot my wallet at home in Hawaii. So the only thing I had on me was my passport. I've rented with Alamo several times so I knew they would have all of my information on file. However that didn't matter. They gave me a hard time and I was unable to get a car. I spoke with Alamo again and they told me I could get a temporary license and that would be able to work. So I had to purchase a new license via online DMV. After I was able to do that everything worked out. There was a woman working the outside booth, I didn't catch her name... she was the manager of the pick up booth that day. She was super sweet and friendly! She first tried to put me in a clown car, I was not driving that nor was it what I paid for. I was very angry and annoyed especially after all I just went through. However she told me when something is clean in the category in which I purchased I could get it. I was mad I then had to wait again. Shortly later she pulled up a vehicle and was like here goes a little upgrade so we can get you out of here. This review is overdue... I have rented a car twice from this Alamo location in two years and both times had fine experiences. The reason I am writing this review now is because my most recent experience was still excellent despite a small hiccup with available cars on the lot (easily/quickly resolved). The check-in process inside the terminal went smoothly. The interaction at the garage booth was fine--Chloe M. was professional and helpful in communicating what was being done to provide enough available cars. The manager was also there and stepping in to solve this issue in a calm and respectful manner. Bonus points--he was dressed in professional attire and communicated well, which gave me confidence in a positive outcome. Alamo at the Albany Airport is my first choice rental car company based on experiences. My bill has always been accurate. Everyone I dealt with was friendly, which is especially welcomed after/before airline travel. read more

Do not rent from these people if you have a choice. We had booked a standard size car for a trip from Albany to Montreal. They said we had no reservation... when I showed them the confirmation email they said there were not enough digits in the confirmation number. When I showed them the confirmation that was live on their website they tried to say there must be some glitch in the system. Clearly they had mistakenly given our reserved car to a walk-up and then figured they'd just give us a car three "classes" below what we had reserved. And they figured they could just lie about what happened as if we lived in the pre-internet era. They're too ignorant to realize everything they do leaves a trail. So we had to make the 200 mile trip from Albany to Montreal in an economy Hyundai in snow flurries with no winter tires and what was clearly NOT sub-freezing wiper fluid. This company is an abomination. They do not care about the customer--not just their happiness but they literally don't care if you survive your trip and will lie and force you to accept cars that are actually dangerous to drive under whatever the current conditions are. It was easy renting a car. Locating it was easy, simple process. The only thing sucked was the windshield wipers really need to be replaced and well since this a rental I guess we aren't doing it either but it's raining!!! Oh and my friends here Katie and Susie just discovered the back seats in this Santa Fe Hyundai recline! They are impressed!!! Simple joys of a rental car! Was a 4 Star. WAIT!!! ONE DAY LATER Other small issues with the car. Loss of tire pressure. We are too far out for them to bring us a car and they don't have a real solution for us besides that we figure it out. Customer service even told us we could pay to tow it!!! just a bunch of BS. Blah blah. Luckily the car made it back the next day. We just kept putting air in the tire. Rolled in late on a Saturday night, no line so walked up to the counter. Attendent was curtious and funny, and we were on our way in no time. Picked up the car from the garage, I thought I was going to get an econo box, but ended up with a Jeep Cherokee. So that was a nice surprise. Although no fault of Alamo, I didn't like the Jeep, I banged my knee pretty bad trying to get out of it and I am of average height. Drop off was just as easy and painless and attendant was also nice. My only real complaint, is that the Alamo cars are the furthest away from the Airport, so a little bit of a walk. Would use them again. read more

This place is dishonest and unprofessional. I only needed to rent a car for an afternoon and had the car for a total of 6 hours. On the initial walkthrough, we pointed out damage to the agent and he said not to worry about it and that it's just "normal wear and tear". We did not damage the vehicle and returned it as it was. Admittedly, I should have had them provide more documentation at the time saying the damage was there, but stupidly trusted their agent that it was wear and tear and there was no need to worry. Upon returning the vehicle we then were called out for what they termed a "panel separation". The only way this was noticeable was after looking at multiple panel joints on the vehicle and comparing them back and forth. The difference in panel joint thicknesses was less than 1/4" and in no way would ever be picked up on an initial walkthrough. We protested the claim at the time, but were given a receipt and not informed of any additional charges. If we had been, we would have stayed to protest. A few days after returning the car, I received a notice of damage. I then requested pictures of the damage and a photo of the odometer when the damage pictures were taken. The photos also showed damage that was definitely not on the vehicle when we returned it (otherwise it would've been noticed at the final walkthrough) and the odometer reading did not match the odometer reading when I returned the vehicle (on my receipt). The vehicle had been driven a significantly enough distance to have been damaged since I returned it. (If you rent a car and drive it even a mile off the lot and damage it, they'll say its your fault.) I used my own insurance and didn't pay for theirs and am now on the hook for damage to a car that I did not create. Basically, if you don't pay for their insurance, and take photos of every inch of the vehicle before and after you drive it, they will screw you over in any way possible and make you pay for every scratch on the vehicle, probably scratches and damage that were created by people who previously payed for insurance, so they can double dip with money. Its a total scam. I followed up to complain to their managers (Barry Gray) who blew off any responses and only followed up the morning after Thanksgiving, when most people aren't available. He then disappeared after that. They are unprofessional, dishonest, and will scam you if they can. read more

The normal gentlemen Adam, behind the sales counter was not there and an awful, rude woman gave me such a hard time because I did not have my return ticket co formation in me! I had to go to the JetBlue counter and ask them for a print out for a flight not leaving for a week! Then she insisted on a DMV check !!?!?! LOL I am 57 years old with a spotless record and have spent thousands with Alamo AND belong to their frequent user plan. I returned my rental in perfect condition the same as I rented it and they claim that there was a front bumper dent and repaint. Nothing happened to the car in my possession.. it's ludicrous that in a week, I dented the front bumper, took it in for repair and repaint and returned the car.. I believe this is a scam and I called my ins, co. I don't have proof that I didn't do anything but Alamo doesn't have pictures of the car prior to me renting it either, so they don't have proof it wasn't already damaged. And I never would have even noticed the damage but the guy wrote it up like a big dent. I believe I've been scammed and Alamo Albany airport is ripping off insurance companies. SCAM BEWARE!!!! I had to fly to ALB due to my 90 year old mother falling ill. Usually I rent with National, but being a quick turn around I was looking for a "deal", which ended up being a small SUV with Alamo. When I finally was helped at the counter, the woman called the garage booth and said they would talk to me about my rental when I got there. It was freezing cold outside. Two people were inside the booth, me standing outside, they told me that since I was alone they could offer me an Audi or BMW instead of the small SUV, I agreed. They pointed to the car, but weren't coming out to do an inspection and didn't say anything about me doing one. The car was in good condition, with no damage. When I returned it a few days later it was very early morning. There were no attendants, just a return line and drop box. I parked in the line, dropped the keys and went on my way. Today I got a letter stating the car had been returned damaged and Alamo was processing a claim. This is bogus! I returned the car in perfect condition, there was no damage. What happened after I dropped the car, I have no idea, but there is no way I am responsible for anything but bringing it back in the same condition as when I took the car. I read about scam after scam by Alamo, and now it is clear that they are trying to do it to me too. I will not pay them a penny for something I didn't do, and I will NEVER rent from them again. All of the staff were efficient and friendly. When I voiced my concern about driving a car with 30,000 miles on the tires into a snowstorm, they quickly upgraded me to a larger car with only 1,500 on it. I left very happy. read more

Flew in from Miami for a weekend get together with my baby girl who is in Williams college. It's about an hour drive from Albany airport. I was worried about the drive and worried about driving at night since I am not used to driving through mountains! Got there to pick up a car I had reserved through Hotwire. I was concerned I would have an issue because I had never used that site before. The young lady with the long dark hair, I am so bad with names! but she was the one in the center of the counter... what a pleasure she was! She made the pick up so easy for me, offered me a really good deal on an upgrade and I told her it was great but I really couldn't being that I was on such a tight budget and was only visiting because I missed my daughter so much so the trip was a complete penny pinching trip! Well, let me just say she upgraded me anyway!!! I went from a compact to an SUV!!! I was so happy! Thank you so much! I'm so embarrassed that I cannot remember name! But I'll tell you, that SUV came in handy driving through some pretty dense fog and all types of mountainous roads! I am so grateful! Service was great at pick up as well! I reserved an SUV through one of the online prepay services about two weeks in advance. Based on my comparison shopping for that period, it appears that demand in Albany was very high at that time. I was concerned we might not get a suitable vehicle. However, Alamo provided a top quality, nearly new vehicle that exceeded my expectations in every way. The man at the counter(whose name I've unfortunately forgotten but you'll recognize him as the big/tall guy) was extremely professional, polite and helpful to insure we got the vehicle we needed. I must say that they were great. I was unable to take my original flight and showed up two days late for the car. They not only kept my original res, but did not charge me anything extra. I still kept the car for seven days with no added charges when I returned it. I will use them again without a doubt. People must remember a little patience goes a long way. Very Very Bad treatment by Sales person in Albany International Airport. My Driving License has been expired and I have applied for the new License and I was issued with Temporary Driving Permit for 60 days which is good to drive and book the rental car. The sales person Whitney has treated me very badly and told that she can not issue the car as I don't have driving license . And whitney told me that I have Learners permit , I have explaining that the it is not learners permit but Drivers Permit. But she is so rude and not in a position to listen to my explanation. I was forced to hire the TAXI which I have never take a TAXI in my 15 years and Always taken Rental car where ever I go to new city. My whole schedule got messed up and due to this for each and every small things I need to take TAXI , For going to Restaurants , Stores , Medical Shops etc. The same ALAMO rental car I have rented the car in ATLANTA International Airport and they have honored when I have presented the same documents on April 2nd 2016. Sales person Whitney acting like she is the solo owner of that ALAMO and said she is not comfortable to issue the car as I don't have the Driving License and told that she had talked with her Co Workers and Manager (Jackie) and they told that its your(Whitney) decision to issue or not issue the car. When I have Escalated the issue and written the email there is not reply from either ALAMO Manager or Enterprise Rental Cars Manager.
