We had excellent service from Bernard. Car was great. Absolutely no problems with pick up or return.

They charged me $453 plus a hold of $200 on my personal card and they scam people on the toll device, $35 a day for the device plus the actual tolls. They gave me an electric car which I didn't ask for. The car was filthy. I drove it for an hour before turning around and bringing it back to the Albany airport and went with a much better provider in National Car Rental, so much easier. Hertz still charged me $105 for the hour which I will be telling my credit card company not to pay. Also, the four customer service reps two inside the terminal and two in the garage all below average. Just an overall horrific experience. read more

I sure wish I'd looked at these reviews before confirming my reservation. RENTER BEWARE. I am embroiled in a dispute with Hertz, because they insist I kept the car for three more days than the three-day trip to Albany I'd already paid through Priceline. I can prove through MANY means (airline records, phone records, bank records) that I was only in the Albany area for three days total. They won't listen. Hertz has even convinced my credit card company of this lie, and my CC denied my claim. (The three "extra days" were charged to my credit card, where my original Priceline charge was on my debit card.) I have not been able to get a response from anyone who is willing to listen or be helpful. It is beyond frustrating and maddening--I'm f*ing ANGRY--and I can only hope that someone will see this negative Yelp review and contact me. The funny thing is that I had been pretty happy with the rental (after a rocky beginning with the long line at the late-night 90°F airport garage location), and I likely would have given them a positive review--the employees seemed friendly and well/meaning but massively overworked. Clearly, someone made a mistake checking me in, which happens. But the fallout has been unbelievably bad customer service. If it were possible to rate Hertz lower I would. First, I would like to start by saying I work for the Govt. (supervisor) and my team uses Hertz along with other companies often. I can assure you, my team and any team member from other groups associated with me will never use Hertz while I'm still in charge. My wife flew from Florida to Albany NewYork and rented a car to drive to Poughkeepsie to drop my son off at college. They made it all the way there and after stopping for dinner they came out to a flat tire. She had enough air to get to a gas station. The service guy looked at the tire and said it had previously been plugged and the plug came out. He looked in the truck for a spare to change the tire and you guessed it, no spare tire. So he put air in the flat tire and she made it to the hotel. She called the roadside assistance number (no assistance number) for help and explained to them she had to be at the college early in the morning for our scheduled appointment with the staff to check our son into the school so she needed roadside assistance to come out and fix or change the tire. They told her she would have to do one of the following: 1. Wait till 8am in the morning and call back, Hertz would schedule a tow truck and take her to a local Hertz dealer to exchange the car if they have one. If not, the tow truck would take her back to Albany for another car. 2. Have a tow truck provided by Hertz to take her to the Albany airport tonight (2 hours away) and pick up another car. 3. Take the car to a tire shop in the morning (miss the appointment time at the school) and have the tire repaired. He also informed her it would be at her cost because of the lack of hazard insurance. Regardless of the fact they gave her a care that had a tire that was previously repaired with a plug and that plug came out. My wife will have Uber pick her and my son up tomorrow mornin, make the appointment, help him settle into the dorm and then Uber into town for another rental car from another company. I instructed her to leave the keys on the dash in plain sight of anyone wanting a car with a flat tire. I called Hertz and told them we have already contacted our credit card company and started a dispute of charges. I also told them their car is at a hotel somewhere in Poughkeepsie and they can come get it. HERTZ rental car company left a sailor's wife and kid stranded in Poughkeepsi, NY. They put the responsibility of fixing the problem on her. I will do everything in my power to inform all the commands we work with, do not let our sailors or Govt. employees select Hertz while booking travel. Hertz at the Albany Airport was great. My flight was cancelled and my only choice was to rent a car and drive to Boston's Logan Airport. I was very flustered and the man at Hertz was awesome. He had a very calm demeanor and helped put me at ease. I don't know his name but he was an Air Force Veteran. Thank for your Service sir. I got a great Chevy Malibu and took off without delay. I wish I could give negative stars. I paid my rental in full before the pick up date of 11/27/24. Provided my own toll badge, had adequate insurance coverage etc. no add-ons to my rental. I returned the vehicle with a full tank and the final receipt showed I owed $0.00. It's been two weeks and the $200.00 security deposit is still pending despite their claims of refunds being issued within 24 hours of the return of the rental. I called my bank to see what's going on as the Hertz website states that after 24 hours the issue lies with your financial institution. The bank employee informed me that no charges were cancelled or refunded by Hertz. This I get a notification that I've been charged almost $40 for tolls to a different card than I used for that rental. I've tried to call their customer service line numerous times only to be sent back to the main menu or get hung up on. I have all the receipts showing I do not owe them and that I have paid the toll on the toll badge I have provided. I have provided said receipts to Hertz as well. So far I have been ignored for over two weeks. The "service" you get here is absolutely abhorrent. Hertz is an incredibly predatory and down right fraudulent company. I have already contacted both my credit card companies to report fraud, deleted my account with Hertz and contacted an attorney as I will not be paying $240.00 extra for nothing on top of a rental that cost $94.00 for a couple of hours (their "24 hour blocks" are complete lies). Save yourself the headache and do no rent from this terrible company. If you're in the Albany area I suggest you go with Budget, they are much cheaper and keep to their promise. They returned my deposit well within 24 hours after dropping off the rental. Their cars are also not heavily damaged like the one Hertz provided me. (If for some reason you do rent from them make sure to take pictures and document every single tiny scratch or defect to the vehicle you get as they will try and hold you accountable for everything they can). read more

Was running late and wanted to make sure they still had my car so I called multiple times with no answer. I asked the agent in the airport terminal whether they ever pickup the phone and she said no. They are too busy helping customers! Process to get a car if you are not flying is cumbersome and don't know the routine. First go into terminal to get paperwork, then walk out to garage to get car from Hertz kiosk. Made mistake of going to garage Kiosk first. Maybe if someone picked up the phone they could have let me know where to go! Car itself was quite beat up, hadn't been washed and had dirt in the trunk. We had to make an unexpected stop in Albany because of a mechanical issue with our first rental. We were stressed about the situation and unsure how this exchange was going to go. They deserve "0" stars!! I picked up my car rental from Albany Airport about 25 hours ago. Both doors were sealed with Gold Standard Sanitation Stickers, however, when I got in the car I smelled very strong men's cologne. It was unbearable so we opened the windows for fresh air. Went to bed last night and today went out in the car and all I could smell is cigarette, my co-pilot said it smelled like pot. We stopped the car and searched it, and found marijuana/pot throughout the driver side/console space between. It definitely smells like more than we found. The. Passenger side front floor carpet was ripped back. The back seat has bleach or some kind of splash stains on the inside rear passenger door (right side). The car is filthy and smells really bad. I needed a different car that I feel comfortable driving my children in. I felt this needed immediate attention. I called and they just doesn't care. The agent on the phone wasn't even sure if I would be able to get a different car. I asked, "Should I report this to the police? The agent relied, " that's up to you. I was them told to file a complaint online. I'm very disgusted and will not ever rent from this company again!!!!! read more

I rented a Tesla from Hertz at the Albany Airport in September 2023. In December I got a bill for $10.35 charged to my credit card. To get from Schenectady to the Tesla charger in Albany (the only one in the area), apparently the Tesla Navigation system put me on a toll road for 35 cents, and now Hertz has charged me a $10 toll road fee. I left my Apple Watch in the front console of my rental and realized it 10 minutes before my flight on 8/30/24. I called them before I boarded my flight and no one answered the phone line. I have called all ant least 30 more times over the weekend and it's the same thing no one picks up the phone line . It will be a miracle if I get the watch back. Don't leave anything in their vehicle because they are absolutely no help. Also no email to contact them! Update, location said that they found my watch so no payed $37 to get it shipped to me. Turns out that they sent me an older Apples Watch. They basically swapped my new one for their old one. Manager "Eric" basically told me that I should be more careful not to leave anything in their vehicle and that his staff wouldn't swap out my watch. One of two things, he is either too stupid to realize that he employs thieves or he is in on it. Regardless this location has very dishonest people that work there, so please avoid them at all cost. They tried to scam me with a fake accident a month after I returned my rental even though I had purchased coverage from them and their was no accident or damage. They sent me a photo of a different car with a cracked windshield and said that I owed them money. I did not get a response to my email and was not able to get anyone on the phone. So I called Hertz corporate and they said there was not record of any accident or damage in my account. I forwarded this information to the local Albany branch and they still did not respond. No issues; found a killer deal on Priceline. The counter took a little while, but I was given my car quickly. Although they tried to sell me insurance, etc (if you pay with a credit card, you are likely covered through your CC company), I just declined all charges. The car worked well, it was their compact and it burned so little fuel; I drove 80 miles and burned 1.9 gallons of fuel. Pretty sweet. Didn't have any issues returning; would gladly use Hertz again! Only downside is getting to the airport if you didn't fly in to pick up your car. read more

Hertz has become my car rental company of preference, and this most recent experience helps explain why. I had planned a trip to upstate NY for my niece's wedding, and had made arrangements to rent a car through a different firm. When some additional family issues caused me to rearrange my travel schedule, my original car rental company was not willing to work with me, and during a fit of frustration, I canceled my rental and called Hertz. I was a Hertz Gold member in the past, but had not used their services in quite some time. The reservations clerk was able to pull up my old profile, and instantly refresh and update my information. She then helped me to book my reservation for this three-week trip, and tossed in a nice upgrade. When I got to the rental car counter at the Albany airport, the clerk told me to stand in the Gold Members line, and sure enough my renal car and all associated paperwork was ready and waiting. I simply showed them my driver's license and credit card, and then handed me the keys. Nothing could have been easier. The car was parked right near the terminal, so there was no shuttle bus. My little Nissan Versa was sporty with plenty of room for me, and space for transporting family members to the wedding. The car was thoroughly cleaned and ready to go. After three weeks on the road, it was time to say goodbye, and the drop-off process at the airport was equally smooth. I pulled into the garage where the technician met me and scanned the bar code in the window. He confirmed my email address and said that my receipt would be emailed to me. I made the reservation to pick my car up on May 13th, 2024 and the reservation confirmation directed me to go to the Gold Counter. However, the agent at the Gold Counter told me there was an issue with the credit card on file and asked me to go to the main counter inside the terminal. The agent there said, you are a Premier Gold Member and there are no issues with the credit card information on file and directed me to go back to the Gold Counter. I did not want to go back and forth and insisted that the agent at the main counter give the paperwork for the car assigned and proceeded to go back to the Gold Counter to get the keys. Both agents at the Gold Counter claimed they did nothing wrong. I have been renting about once a month from this location and have found the Gold Counter Staff, either ill-prepared or ignorant and not very friendly. I have had issues before. In the past, errors on the amount of fuel in the tank and the mileage out at the time of rental have had errors, and getting them corrected always takes time. The Hertz agents at this location will drive the customers away. read more

Looks like the previous renter either smokes or throw up in the car, they cleaned it, but make the smell even worse. It stained in our clothes for the entire 3 days we were driving it. We tried to reach them but no luck. We were also, in a very remote area where there is no or very little internet connection. Their customer service from the email is no help and even think that we're lying about the car condition. Even though there are so many people witnessing these awful smells during the wedding event that we went to. They even overcharged us on the gas when we returned the car. Worst car rental experience I have ever had. Go to Enterprise, they have far better management. Was given a smaller vehicle than what I paid for initially, with no alternative or compensation. I got on the phone with customer service and within ten minutes the manager miraculously produces the product I paid for. Mind you, I had already wasted one hour of my time by the time he brought this vehicle to me. I get in and see the tank half empty. I let him know and he says I can return it at the same level, which makes no sense since I prepaid for my tank of gas. He goes and "fills it up" but come to find out when I fill it up later myself, he's intentionally left off a couple gallons so that it appeared full - how? On the 2023 Ford Edge you can see how full it is as you are filling it. He dropped it off at 408 miles to empty, and I see later that a complete fill goes to over 450 miles. These are just the facts, but in my opinion that manager has no tact in dealing with customers either. He is arrogant, petty, and deceptive. Still no compensation or response from corporate , and in the meantime they charged me for PlatePass even though I never took it out of its shield! NEVER using Hertz again, at least at this location. The Airport is not handicap accessible. For car rentals...You have to park in temp parking, go inside to ticket counter, then garage to get car, then back to your car to get luggage. Do that in a wheel chair.Then the return was even worse. The agents in return where very rude!!! And no help. Wanted us to park outside in different lot then return to counter. I walked up and she immediately asked for my license and reservation without looking me in the eye. I gave her my license and when I gave her my debit card she rudely stated that if I used a debit card they would charge me $500 instead of $200 for a holding. That's insane to me. What has Hertz done to its car rental location at Albany airport? It was in a very convenient location and was easy to navigate, get your car, and be on your way. They've now moved way over in the rental car parking lot, like they seriously pissed someone off and they are in time out or something. There is no listing for Gold members, there is confusion with one person handling drop offs and pick ups. The cars were packed in tight, with no end of people parked and standing in the way of trying to get into the car, get stuff in the trunk, and get on our way. Ruined my entire weekend. Ordered economy/managers special. I ended up with an electric. To change would be extra 100$. Now. It wouldn't be an issue if there were proper charging stations but 6 stations later and the most charge we got was 20 miles over two hours. Complete trash. Couldn't visit family for fear of running out of charge. And then the woman at the counter told us we needed to bring it back 10% charged. And apparently it's 80% and so I was charged an extra 35$. Every time I use this hertz it's something. Bunch of incompetent idiots working there. The one time the woman basically accused me of not being me and asked for a third ID, but not just any third ID a picture ID on top of my DL. I happen to have my passport as I was going with my cousin to renew it while I was in town. But seriously!?!? On top of that 2 of the last 4 times I was charged for gas when the tank was full and I had to call customer service to have them fix it. Trash trash trash. Terrible customer service from the start. Chose to rent from Hertz at the Albany NY airport this trip as my experience with Avis the previous week was horrendous to say the least. Customer experience was comparably worse at Hertz. It started with the vehicle pick-up desk inside the airport. I book travel through a travel site as it is work related. The site incorrect put my pick up car time as 6am instead of later in the afternoon when I actually got in. No big deal. Well they made sure I was to blame for why my paperwork was prepared. Mumbling how the pickup was for 6am yada yada. The customer shouldn't be made to feel bad about a computer error. They had plenty of cars available it truly wasn't as big of a deal as they made me feel it was. The due to my horrendous experience with Avis requiring me to fill out a claims form for previous damage to the vehicle last week. I asked the gentleman outside at Hertz to note the LARGE and obvious scratch to the exterior of the car prior to me driving the vehicle off of the lot. He gave me nothing but attitude and grumbles as he filled out the damage report. Guess what buddy- it's your job to do this. Again Hertz making the customer feel like they are getting in the way of their usual day. The car is okay. I would get a nicer and cleaner vehicle with Avis. Second, the sales rep said there were only pathfinders, tahoes and similar available so I went with a Tahoe. When I saw the price was 4 times the cost. Horrendous service. Walked up to the woman at around 8pm (December 28, 2018) to see if there were any vehicles available for the night. She was on her phone and didn't even look up at me. After standing there for 30 seconds with nobody else around I decided to ask her, without a greeting, if they had anything available. With a careless stare she simply shook her head "no". No words. No "I'm sorry, but we don't." Nothing. Rudely shook her head no and went back to playing on her phone. Not sure how she has any job much less one in customer service.
