They have a shared counter across the drop-off circle with a handful of other rental companies. It's a narrow lot, so they end up moving/adjusting the vehicle for you to pick up and drive away. If you're dropping a vehicle off in this lot, be careful navigating around as well since there are tons of cars and people walking around. I can specify the "least expensive vehicle" or search by car size (SUV vs. Compact car, etc) with this website. This time, I needed to pick up a car in Las Vegas and return it to Long Beach Airport. Autoslash sent me quotes from Priceline, and I chose my Car Rental Company from the quotes they gave me. Alamo had the best options, so we used this company. We were quite happy with the Toyota Corolla, but I couldn't figure out how to get my phone to sync with the car's monitor. I went back to Southern California a few days later for a last-minute trip. I used Autoslash again and got a Kia Forte. No problem! Hooking up with the car's system was simple! The gal who gave me the car keys didn't push me to get extra coverage... yay! Even bringing the car back to the Rental Car Center was easier this time. I was greeted in the parking lot and went on my way. (I didn't have to go inside the building and drop the keys in the slot.) The polite young man even reminded me to get my jacket from the front passenger seat... thank you! This rental car facility is so convenient. It's literally across the street from the Long Beach airport. When you return the car just pull into one of the Alamo stalls and park. All the rental car companies here share a lot. One of the workers from Alamo will come out and inspect the car. They'll tell you to leave the keys in the car ignition. They glance over the car and say that they'll send you an email. The whole process took less than 30 seconds. read more

I'm doing something I've never in my life done. I'm giving a car rental agency a five-star review. Car pickup was effortless. Absolutely no attempt at ridiculous upselling. Pick up took all of 10 minutes. It's a 2-minute walk from the terminal. Car return also effortless. The guy that checked me in could not have been more polite. Feels like pulling up to a friend's house. Another 2-minute walk to the terminal. Car had 5,000 miles. Jeep Cherokee hybrid. $10 worth of gas to get back and forth to the Port of Long Beach. I've spoken to about 3 different customer service reps telling me the same thing, "we've added in notes for the location to check in the car". My daughter left her laptop in the car and simply asked them to give us a call when the car is returned if they find or not find the next day no call back so the second day after our return which the car should have been returned walked in because there's no way you can call the desk at that location, which is very inconvenient left my information went back three hours later. Rented 2 vehicles one for ourselves and our son and daughter in law. One rental went well the other seemed to have problems from the start with having the fuel service charge applied and getting it removed even before getting into the vehicle. Alex said we'd get an email confirmation of that removal so we left the lot. Apparently we never got an updated email but since she's the manager it should be ok right......wrong. Onto the vehicle a "2024 new vehicle" in which they praised so highly before giving it to us. We used it to drive to the hotel, to get food and back to the airport so 3 times in 3 days and the day of return the battery died. It only had about 5k miles on it. Got charged a jumpstart fee for that. I mean who would've thought a "2024 new vehicle" as the manager mentioned who proudly gave it to us said in that manner would need a jump on the day we were returning. It's a good thing we had enough time before our flight. So upon returning we mentioned this to I believe he said his name was Eduardo he didn't have a name tag. He said it happens apologize for the inconvenience and said he'd remove the jumpstart fee and fuel service fee since we returned it full and we explained that it should've been removed before we took possession and never got confirmation of that. He said he'd also put a small discount for the trouble. However he'd have to that once he gets inside at the computer. He must've forgotten because it took more than 48 hours to get the receipt that never came by email. It was only after a few days of trying to access under past receipts to find out that they had never removed any of the charges they were supposed to. So if you rent from here keep in mind if you have the time make sure to get a paper receipt for everything. We even called and they said they'd take care of it and have yet to anything resolved. It's been a week since that call and a week and a half since we returned the car. The only reason for the 3 stars is I can't deny that they are all very pleasant however the inconvenience of everything else takes away from the experience. read more

I rented a van from Alamo using my Costco Membership which resulted me getting a Dodge Grand Caravan for 5 days with unlimited mileage for a little more than $300.00. I was very happy with that price and the size of the van was great. The service was absolutely horrible. The lady at the counter ( name I think was Jordyn) was exceptionally rude. She was not even paying attention to me when I walked up to the counter. The lady at the Budge rent a car place had to get her attention because Jordyn was too busy looking at her phone. Like I said the van was great except for a couple of things: 1) the windshield wipers hardly worked. They could not clean the windshield at all. Also, there was so much trash in the van: three large Starbucks cups that were not all the finished, a can of bottle spray, and some other hygiene products. That was very disturbing to have to clean out the van for the company. Upon returning the van this past Saturday, the lady at the counter was not very pleasant at all. I wanted to switch my payment method upon returning the car which I was told I could do when picking the car up and it seemed like I irritated the lady at the counter. I do not know her name because she had no name tag on. She was rude and disrespectful to my wife and I. One of the few bright spots in customer service was one of the counter representatives who helped us when picking up the car was very kind. I am not sure his name because he did not have a name tag on but he wished me a belated Happy Birthday and really made sure he helped us in anyway that he could. read more

We had a mare trying to get hold of a Mustang convertible last minute and initially we were told there wasn't one available so we accepted a Dodge Charger instead. When we were in the car park finding the car, Khan was running around trying to find us to tell us a Mustang had just been returned and handed us the keys for our lovely new car for the day. When I turned on the engine, the Maintenance required indicator came on. When I went to the desk to let them know that the indicator was on, they almost fought with me saying how can that be. then I waited for the agent to go and see it for herself. She came back and gave me the keys to another SUV. I opened the doors and the car had not been vacuum cleaned. There were tissues in the door side, there was a McDs drink cup under the seat... I mean isn't cleaning a basic task when the previous person returns the car?? The seats were stained as you can see from the photo. When I took it to the guy checking out the cars, he said, "Yeah too bad our guys didn't spot it". The car itself was good, so we just took it and went. I booked my reservation through Costco and got a fairly good deal on a Sedan. I arrived on a Saturday around 5pm and to my luck, there was no line at all. I spoke with a man named Mark who was truly a professional. We had a real conversation and he talked about his life and I spoke about mine. Most of the times, I'm talking with employees that are just straight business so it was refreshing this time. I was sad to be told that there was no sedan available but they had other options. They really sold me on a pick up truck and said they would match the price I would've paid for the sedan. I would've never gotten a truck but they told me about all the benefits it provided and it could be a different experience for me. They also helped out with gas too which I was truly appreciative of. Try to convince you to take a "comparable" vehicle that is not comparable. Vehicles are not clean. No gas. One of my best experience with a car rental agency. It started out being a one starred experience. I was in town for a wedding. I reserved a SUV to pick up other out-of-town family members from the airport. They didn't have any SUVs. It was Thanksgiving Day. The checking-in agent had an indifference attitude. After I declined the offer for a compact sedan, she told me I could wait in the lobby until a customer return a SUV. Because she had to be away from her family on a holiday, I gave her some slack. I didn't appreciate the attitude and resisted responding in kind. But everything turned around after a short wait. Raven Anderson, the station manager, called me to the counter and resolved the situation. She was very professional and kind. I heard her conversation with another customer when I initially check-in. She was a team player, explaining to the other customer that she wanted to be at work since her employees had to work on a Thanksgiving. She was honest and upfront about my rental situation, explaining that my reserved car was not available for the entire day. However, she rectified the situation by giving us an upgrade to a luxury car (Cadillac XT) without any additional charge. She went a step further and reduced a day's rental fee. This action was above and beyond my expectation. My business usually used Avis for our rental car needs. I was an AVIS preferred member. I used Alamo through Costco for this trip due to a significant cost difference. I would consider using Alamo when traveling through Long Beach Airport with this type of customer care. Alamo Rent A Car - Unexpected upgrade to a luxury car - Car Rental Near Me - Long Beach, California

A couple of weeks ago, I rented a minivan to drive/move from Long Beach to Charlotte, NC. Unfortunately when I was in Texas one morning, it wouldn't start and I ended up on the phone with roadside assistance for nearly half of the day before I was told to get check back into a hotel and try again in the morning. I needed an entirely new car because the issue was irreparable on site. They told me that because it was Labor Day, all rental companies within 100 mile radius were closed so I simply had to wait, and then start over the following day. I was very tired, and frustrated, but checked back into my hotel and waited. It was then that Trey Weeks from the LGB Alamo caught wind of my situation, personally emailed me and asked me to call him so he could step in. He quickly worked to get the van towed (with allllll of my worldly possessions) to the airport. Upon arrival to the airport, I was told hey had no vehicles big enough to accommodate all of my stuff. I was stranded in Amarillo, TX. Trey, who had given me his mobile number so I could reach him quickly, then got on the phone with the associate at the airport and within a few minutes a brand new van appeared. Trey went above and beyond to ensure I was taken care of, safe, and back on the road ASAP. He also refunded me for all of the trouble I experienced. I come here because the rates are sometimes more reasonable than LAX and it's closer to me. I've rented here twice and both times Jose has helped me. He was always very friendly and professional. I'm usually in and out and when I waited in line I was out quickly. I would definitely come back to this location. I do have to mention the lady who you return the cars to is very unfriendly. She was nonchalant the first time but rude the second time. I reported her to Alamo and apparently they've gotten numerous complaints about her. How she is still working there is beyond me but she gets this location one star off. I also reported how awesome Jose's service was because I believe in acknowledging the great experiences as well. The customer service inside along with reasonable airport rates is why I would return. Tips!! Airport locations are the highest to rent from but have the best hours. If you can rent during business hours you would save a lot of fees going to a location away from the airport. If you have full coverage insurance you can skip the additional coverage they offer. Some credit cards also offer rental protection. Alamo doesn't charge a big deposit on your card either, I've only been charged the amount I've booked when I returned. You get a one hour grace period before they charge a late return fee. read more

I always try to remind myself of where I am when I rent a car or stay in a hotel or book a flight when it comes to prices. For So Cal, at the airport, for 5 days, I paid $176 for an economy rental. Unlike Budget, I didn't have some insane deposit to lay down, and unlike Dollar, they rent to those who have bankruptcy in their pasts. Unlike both, Alamo allowed me to apply two discounts to my rental online ($30 off a weekly rental, plus an additional discount for paying ahead of time). Sure, the first car they gave me was bright yellow. And it was a Chevy Aveo. But when I went in and asked for any other car, so long as it wasn't yellow, the service person gladly obliged. The car I ended up getting was a Hyundai with no power windows and a nonadjustable steering wheel, but it was a 2011 and it got good gas mileage. If my arm can't handle rolling down a window manually, then I've got problems that supercede rental cars. Count your blessings, people! I'd rent from Alamo again, for sure. read more

Rented a compact car through the Costco website for an awesome deal and they gave me a Ford Fusion (awesome car by the way, leather seats, sattelite radio and mid size in my opion). I walked right up and they had the reservation ready to go, took about 5 minutes and I was on my way. Best ever experience renting a car. The return was good too. The lady pointed me to a spot and gave me my receipt and I was on the way in 5 minutes. Took longer to get my stuff out of the car than for her to check me in. They're trying to blame us with a dent on the car, that was clearly already there. They're probably just trying to save their butts, because they couldn't get the people prior to us that rented the car to confess. Or they just didn't do their job by inspecting the car prior to us, so they are looking to blame someone. Whatever the case is, if English is your 2nd language take someone who can help you out and translate. Positives: Our SUV (Hyundai Santa Fe) was clean and in decent shape for a cross country trip. The staff was professional. Negatives: Alamo had confirmed that the Long Beach Airport location, where we got the rental, had a wifi hotspot tablet available. We discovered upon the day of the rental that the location does not have the wifi device available for rent. Upon dropping off the vehicle, I realized that night that I had left my Ray Ban sunglasses in the vehicle. When I called the Long Beach location a few hours later to have them check the vehicle, they could not find them (...right), although I know I had left them in the sunglass holder in the vehicle. Tip: If you get the full ("walk away") insurance and are using a third party (I.e., Hotwire, Priceline, etc), for the rental, decline from the vendor and purchase it directly with the rental company at the day of vehicle pick-up. read more
