I rented a car from Alamo for a weekend road trip from LA to Monterey, choosing a vehicle specifically for comfort and safety (I have chronic back issues from a previous accident and needed a seat heater for support on long drives). Near Ventura, the tire blew out on a busy stretch of freeway. I called Alamo and was told to call 911--then the rep hung up on me. Thankfully, CHP roadside assistance helped install the spare, but when I called Alamo again, I was told I had to backtrack 20 miles to Burbank to swap the car because the spare wasn't freeway safe. The whole ordeal--waiting on the side of the freeway, coordinating with CHP, and then the drive to Burbank and vehicle exchange--added three hours to my trip. The replacement vehicle didn't have the seat heater I'd specifically booked, and I was told there were no alternatives. By the time I arrived in Monterey, my back was flaring up. I went to the Monterey Airport Alamo to request another swap, and the woman at the desk was incredibly rude. She said I needed a new reservation, refused to check availability at nearby Enterprise locations (same parent company), and offered zero help when I struggled to get through on the phone myself. She literally smirked and refused to assist me. After being passed between multiple departments--including roadside assistance, who told me they "don't help unless it's an emergency"--I finally spoke with a kind representative who secured a car at the very same location. When I returned, the original desk agent refused to acknowledge me, and her manager silently handed me keys. This wasted hours of my weekend, caused me physical pain, and made me feel like I was being blamed for a tire blowout I had no control over. I rented a car to avoid problems--not to spend my trip dealing with a customer service nightmare. The only helpful person was the last rep on the phone. Everyone else added stress to an already stressful situation. Never again with Alamo. read more

Do not book a reservation with this company or enterprise if you ACTUALLY need a rental. Even after calling and asking for confirmation that your reservation is valid/will be accommodated. It's almost like they don't care about leaving their customers high and dry after traveling for unbeknownst hours. Almost like they don't want your money. Absolutely terrible customer service. Why does their system allow you to make a reservation if they ARE NOT ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE IT??? While having a little mishap on my trip with mechanical issues on my rental, Alamo did a superb job replacing my rental smoothly. No doubt. I had a Hyundai Elantra and then got a Chevy Camarro. Beautiful rental replacement I must say. Only issue was that, while on the rest of my trip in the Camarro, I started to notice that my replacement did not suffice with the car the I had to begin with. 1) Physically, it was a great looking car 2) fast and great engine 3) no extra charges for this rental which was great since this was all they had to put me in. Problems with this car was 1) Trunk did not fit all of my luggages 2) space all around (esp. legs) was tight and uncomfortable 3) my boys took turns sitting in the back seats because the head room was not that great and their necks were hurting so they laid down the majority of the time 4) even when they had to lay down, it was better but still not comfortable. We had a great trip despite these things though. As we returned the car, I voiced my experience to the manager. He apologized for encountering the problems I had. He asked what he could do to compensate for our experiences. I said if there's any way he can reduce the charges or credit me back something that I'd appreciate it. He quickly told the guy who was handling my rental to knock of $75 from my rental cost. I was very happy that he listened, cared and valued what I had to say. Overall, I would have to say that they did a superb job with my rental! I will most definitely rent from them again in the future. Thanks Alamo for taking great care of me in a flawless manner and relieving my stress and worries. Camarro is a fun road trip ride if it's just 2 people in it. Very disappointed! Rent from these guys all the time. Don't think so anymore! Had to book a flight into Monterey for Car Week. Two options drive to LAX and get into Monterey around 10 or Fly out of SNA ( much closer) but get in at 11:26. I knew this location closed at 11:00 so I called to see if it could be arranged to get a car for a 11:26 pm arrival time, I called Alamo direct and they assured me it was not a problem and they wait for customers all the time if they know in advance. The agent told me they would make a note on the reservation of my arrival time and even took my flight information. Deal! Booked my car and then my flight out of SNA! Remembering what the agent said about the location having a heads up on my arrival, i went ahead and called the location directly today, not an easy phone number to get, but it showed up on my reservation so i called. Upon contacting them I was quickly dismissed and told "oh no we don't do that!" I explained I had been specifically told they would or I wouldn't have booked the car or the flight a month ago?!? I was then told to call back and talk to the manager and that she sometimes stays later for customers. I called back later and spoke with the manager same story "oh no we don't do that", "the office called me yesterday and I had to stay late", "they do that all the time and I don't like it". I explained I had to get my car as I had no where to stay otherwise. She said she could try to stay, but no promises, and if she was gone just to come back in the morning. Seriously? I confirmed my arrival time of 11:26, she complained that even with the arrival time it takes customers several minutes to get to her window and she is always working 12 hour days! Fully understand I have to do it all the time some times longer if needed. So I arrived and made it to the Alamo counter at 11:35 or 9 minutes late! You can probably guess by now, but yup, closed up tighter than a drum. Thanks for the courtesy! So here I sit, in the airport figuring out a way to sleep until they open again in the morning! There was no agent at the counter. I saw him leave the counter and leave the terminal. The sign said he would be back shortly and to check with Enterprise if I needed immediate assistance. So I waited as the Enterprise desk was busy. Finally I checked with them and they said he was not coming back, even though the office door was wide open. read more

So when I realized I left CO without my watch and bracelet on my left hand (the 2 things I never leave home without, you know the kind of stuff that you feel naked without) and then having heard my name on the loud speakers at DIA (Denver International Airport) "Final Boarding Call for Shiho F.____________." Running past the gate (since no one was standing there anymore) and hopping onto the airplane packed with people looking at me PO-ed, me with a bag of food from Einstein's Bagel and a bag full of gift cards from a local shop... I realized my cell phone wasn't in my purse! WTF!!! I left it in our rental car, find out from a friend in LA (who was also on this trip to CO) that the "rental" was rented through Alamo. So when I arrived in Monterey 9 hours after I left Denver, I thought there is not much I can do but I could hit up the Alamo counter. the lovely lady behind the counter was more than helpful to help me find my cell phone. She scoured some data and found a number I could call but unfortunately it was a message center which told me to leave my name and number and what I had lost etc... Not very helpful and I didn't even get a call back but the lady did everything in her power to help me and that is all that mattered. I get home and start to unpack. I find my watch, bracelet and finally my cell phone. I'm lucky, I'm not as stupid as I think I am. read more

I've never been to Monterey before but a family member was running the marathon here and we needed to drive 8 people around. The day that we were flying out we decided we needed a car. No big problem. I called both Enterprise and Alamo (the actual locations) and they assured me they both had Chevy Suburban or similar card available. The Alamo agent even said they had 3. So I booked my car online and though I was all good. I called the location once more and explained everything and they once again assured me they had the car. When I got to the airport there was one agent working Alamo, National and Enterprise. Guess what he told me. They were sold out and had no cars left. I told him we called and showed him the confirmation email and my call history. "Too bad" we complained to him for 10 minutes before giving up and leaving. After we left I called the Alamo call center to seek compensation and complain. The agent on the phone told me they had a minivan at that airport location. I said no they don't. They asked how I know that. I said I'm standing in the Alamo parking lot at the airport and there is no cars here! She said "oh sorry, sometimes our systems take 72 to96 hours to update". I mean this is the worst. I asked to speak to a manager and repeated my story 3 more times. They said they'd have the area manager call me back. It's been 3 days and no call back. I've also spent 314.88 on Uber, LYFT, taxi, etc. Just to see what would happen I booked another car online and called both the location and the call center. They both assured me they had the car. Guess what. It wasn't there. Alamo owes me $314.88 in compensation and should probably throw in at least 85 more for the inconvenience. Short story. Apparently, sending a confirmation email is not a confirmation of your booking. We booked a 7 seater car for 11am and arrived at 10:30 to be told our car would not be available until 4pm. When asked for a solution their only solution was giving us a car at 4pm, which is not a solution at all. Luckily, we went to Avis right away got a 7 seater for a fraction of the price. Pure incompetence, zero sense of empathy and overall ineptitude at its finest from the two ladies at the Alamo/National staff. The staff showed zero remorse or sorrow for their mistakes and they claimed we talked to a call center and not them once again shedding light on Alamo's inability to align across any level of the business. Bottom line is just because you receive a confirmation number does not mean you are confirmed from them. Be aware when renting from Alamo, even if you even get a confirmation that's legitimate. read more

We were looking to rent a suburban for our eight day trip to Southern California earlier this month. We choose Alamo because of their better pricing. When I went in to make a reservation, I found a line of about 4 people. At first I was like "this is going to take for ever"! But after waiting patiently observed the woman behind the counter being very friendly and patient with these people. I was amazed how she handled the situation and even offered them maps, in one case even showed one of them where they were looking to go on the actual map. Once it was my turn, I kindly asked her for her name and told her I was blown away how she handled every customer with the top of the line customer service. Her name was Patty. Patty was so helpful in booking our reservation and getting us out the door. Also, while on vacation, I needed to extend our reservation for another day. So I called and talked to Judy (I hope I have her name right) which was VERY nice. At first I thought it was party cause they sounded so alike but ended up being they were sisters! Judy made the change so easy and stress free for us. Alamo is lucky to have Patty and Judy as employees. Good customer service is hard to find and I highly recommend anyone looking to rent a vehicle to go here to this location. read more

For years, we've been driving an hour and a half to San Jose Airport to rent a car when we go on a long road trip. We didn't rent locally because we worried about a lack of available inventory. We decided to give the Alamo at Monterey Airport a try, and I'm so glad we did. They're small but mighty. We've rented from them twice so far, and both experiences have been great. The first time, we got a good deal on a luxury car. They gave us three really nice options to choose from. The second time, we specifically needed a minivan. I called the desk a week ahead of time to confirm they'd have a van in stock, and Judy graciously said she'd make sure they had a new one for us since our rental was going to be for an entire month. True to her word, there was a clean new van waiting for us. And the experience couldn't be easier since this is such a small airport. I'm so glad to have this option just a few minutes from home. Alamo will continue to receive our business, thanks to Judy and her sister, who also works the counter there. read more

I've probably had more dealings with Patty since I usually doing business there in the afternoon/early evening hours. I have found her more than helpful and feel she truly cares that you're happy with your rental. This place is not worthy of a single star. I reserved a vehicle a week in advance and was told my vehicle wasn't available when I showed up to pick it up today. The guy told me the Luxury SUV's had been on a long term rental and were not due back any time soon. He had no explanation as to why I was able to reserve a vehicle in that category when they didn't have any available. He tried to downgrade me to a lower class SUV. I had planned to use the luxury SUV to drive students to a prom tonight. I can't even begin to explain how dissapointed they were on their special day. I wasn't able to find any other vehicle in the area. It's infuriating how their corporate office just simply shrugged it off when I called to complain. Never again will I use Alamo, nor will I be recommending it to anybody. Horrible experience. Do not book with these people. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service. My father and I had reserved a car for Friday the 19th of June and had to forfeit our reservation due to their "No debit card" policy. Called corporate later that day where I spoke to three different managers who looked up the specific Monterey Airport location and informed me that we could indeed use a debit card. I rebooked the reservation for the next day and was called 20 minutes prior to pickup time and told that they were overbooked and could not offer us a car. I would advise everyone to look elsewhere for a rental car. I have family flying into Monterey every couple months and will never recommend the Alamo company. read more

(Recommend you do the same if you don't have a corporate or other rates) The person was not at the booth when we rolled up at 8:30 PM but they did show up after not too long. This was my first time renting from Alamo. Halfway into my second day my tire pressure light came on. I assumed it was because it was cold at this point. I woke up the next morning and my tire was flat. I traded it out with the dummy tire in the trunk and headed to Alamo in Monterey. When I got there I was greeted by a very kind lady named Patty. She printed up some paperwork within minutes and got me into another car. A gentleman named Harry walked me out too my replacement car and helped me get situated. Terrible customer service! Rented a car and received a confirmation from Alamo. When we got there, we were told they did not have any cars! The customer service rep a young man was very rude! Made no effort in helping is what so ever!!!!!!! He was smug and was smirking at us. Making jokes under his breath. My 10 year old was so distraught after this encounter! He blamed his corporate office. I would have been on the phone trying to locate a car for my customers, not laughing at them!!!! read more

I got my rental car through Costco Travel and chose this Alamo because they had the best rate. Other than that, it was one of the best car rental experiences I've ever had from a customer service standpoint. We rented a car in Bush Street San Francisco, WITH a voucher! The organisation sucks! We had to wait for 2 hours (!). We finally got our car after I complained of their service. There was a line of at least 30 people, all waiting for their car. The "building manager" is a noisy prick! The personnel is not friendly and they gave us the impression that they hate their work.
