I had a really good experience here! They are not located next to the terminal with most of the other rental car companies. There's a shuttle right outside the terminal that you can jump on and will take you the two or so miles to their offsite location. However, as of July 2026, when you return your car, you do take it to the rental car return which is right next to the terminal at the airport. The employees were so nice and welcoming. Customer service like that is rare these days so I really appreciated it. Keep in mind as well that you might have to wait a little bit as they keep very few cars at this offsite location and apparently have them in some kind of parking garage nearby. read more

Very, very disappointed with this car rental service. My husband and I are always renting vehicles for our trips and on this particular trip my husband and I had two flat tires. One where we had to go into town to a discount tire to get a replacement which was in the amount was $263. I am still waiting for that check from Alamo rental and the date of rental was April 30th. The attendant at the airport comped our rental because of the horrible trip we experienced in this vehicle ($180) And he was also supposed to send us a check for the purchase and we are STILL WAITING !! The last time I rented a car I was a little scarred by my experience, so this lively interaction blew me away! Most importantly, the employees were friendly and helpful. They were a little busy and frazzled yet they made time to chat warmly, and explain everything in great detail (such as how to check the car for dings and how to return to the airport, even though this location was off-site). At Tucson Airport, there was no signage about where to pick up car. We finally went to where other rental companies were, but Alamo wasn't among them. We came back out just in time to see the Alamo shuttle leaving without. A woman there said she was supposed to tell us to take the shuttle, we didn't notice her on the way in and somehow she didn't notice us. So we can wait quite a while for next shuttle, along with that woman who was now off duty. When we got to Alamo office, it was empty. The woman now off duty was willing to take our information and get us a car. It was quite new and in fine condition, but dirty on the outside. We chose to bring the car back full, and assumed it started out full so didn't think to take a photo of that range. It showed a range of 320 miles. When we filled it up days later, we struggled to find the fuel hatch release button and finally had to consult the owner's manual and found there was wasn't one--you just push the hatch door. That tip should have been provided when we picked up the car. We filled the car, and it showed a range of about 450 miles, meaning it hadn't been full when we rented it. But since we didn't take a photo of the range, we couldn't prove that it was low starting out, so fill the car up all the way just before dropping it off. The Alamo woman mentioned something about which other rental car offices we could drop the car off at, but were tired after a day of travel so didn't write it down. The day before we the end of our visit, we called the airport Alamo office six times, but every time no one answered and we were disconnected after less than a minute. When we arrived at the rental car return area, none of the other rental companies display and signage about accepting Alamo car returns. So, the rental price was slightly better than competitors, but for all the janky hassles and very poor communication it wasn't worth the potential savings--and the cost of having to pay for extra gas eliminated those savings. We do not plan to use Alamo again in the future. read more

Be aware that while Costco says that Alamo is in-airport, it is not. You do get to drop off your rental car at the terminal, but when you arrive, you need to take a shuttle to an off-site place to rent the car. So not quite as convenient as I would have liked, but as I was on vacation, the inconvenience was minor. Fortunate for me, the shuttle showed up pretty much as soon as I found the pick up spot. The shuttle ride is just a few minutes away, and the shuttle driver was very friendly. I was the only person renting a car when I arrived, so there was no wait at all, and while I was filling out the paperwork, the lady gave candy to my daughter to keep her entertained. I was given a choice as to which car to rent, and no one gave me guff about using my travel credit card rental coverage rather than purchase their insurance. As I mentioned before, drop off is in the airport terminal, so no problem there. I'd use them again. read more

When we first got to this rental counter in the Tucson airport, the line wasn't that long but it was moving incredibly slowly. There were two agents and then one left, and the line kept growing behind us. From time to time someone with a tablet would come in from outside and call a name, so eventually we figured out that this was the agent checking people out and giving them the keys to their rental. I got up to the front and was greeted with an apology, had a relatively easy checkout, and was given the agent's card and name if we had any questions while we rented. Got an area guide to a few restaurants and we were sent to the waiting area to wait. It took about 45 minutes to an hour to get our car. Everybody there was nice, apologetic, etc. but we saw what the issue was - when we walked out to finally get our car. THERE WERE NO CARS IN THE PARKING LOT. They were literally waiting for cars to come back so they could turn them over and rent them out. I don't think this is the norm because when we returned the car the lot was full again. There was a bowl game in town that weekend which is probably why so many rentals were gone. Our car was fine for our trip and the best price we found for that weekend. And the return was easy. A couple days before we had to return the rental I reviewed the return info and found a mistake on the contract. The pickup time and drop off time were wrong. The pickup time was EARLIER than we actually got the car and the drop off time was marked as AM and not PM (when our flight left). I emailed the address on the business card I was given and received an apologetic email and a voicemail from the manager at that location the same day. When I dropped off the car, I showed the email address to the agent in the lot and they made sure that I wasn't charged for the extra time that was added to my rental. Everything was easy peasy EXCEPT the rocky start of having to wait so long for our rental. Oh, and the disinfectant that they use to clean the car was terrible. It took a day of driving with the windows down and wiping down the interior ourselves to dissipate it. Make sure to check your rental contract before you leave so you can alleviate any stress at the end of your trip. Also, spouses can drive the car for no extra charge! A huge plus of rental cars at the airport is that they are located AT the airport. It's so easy to find them. A great advantage to traveling to a smaller airport. Also, you can save *a lot* of money by renting the mystery car - one that management chooses for you based on what's available at the time. We had a Nissan Sentra sedan with good gas mileage. One more thing. Gas is incredibly inexpensive if you're coming from a big city. If you don't want to search for a gas station before your rental ends, splurge and pay for them to fill the tank. On the day we rented, the going rate was $2.89 a gallon! read more

Good location at the Tucson Airport, all the car rental offices at the airport are in a building east of the terminal with a parking garage behind. If you enter the airport it is after you drive by the terminal. (There is a back way, but complicated if you don't know the area.) read more

Awful. Standing here in line for over 20 minutes at 12:15 am. There are 3 people working, but only one person manning the desk helping customers. I reserved a mid-size, but they only have trucks. They are telling customers to come back tomorrow to change the truck to the vehicle they ordered. I finally get to the counter at 12:45 am. They only have pickup trucks left. He gives me a Ford F-150. That's fine. I just want to get out of there, and to my hotel. A manager comes out, and says he will show me where the truck is parked. As we walk out, he realizes it's all the way on the other side of the lot. He has a ring of keys, and says he will give me something closer. We are standing in front of a upgraded F150 with leather seats and many upgrades. I asked him to get me that truck. He says he hasn't found the keys for it all day. I get in my F150 that was across from it. Next thing I know, one of the workers unlocks the truck I wanted, and throws his bag in it. The manager starts talking to him, and they both start laughing. The worker hid the keys all day, so he could take the truck home instead of renting it out. And the manager laughs about it. That's probably how the place is run which is why the service sucks. BTW, this is one of the only Alamo's I've seen without a self-serve kiosk. I'm sure that would help with the line issues. However, it won't help with the employee issues. read more

Well I reserved for my husband and pre-paid for a small SUV, showed up when he said he would be there, and no small SUVs available. Husband who has a bad back, had to drive In a Very low to the ground uncomfortable Chevy, all the way to Phoenix. Unfortunately, meeting his brothers there for an even longer drive to Vegas( fortunately he dropped the Alamo car in Phoenix), but this impacted his whole weekend and effected his golf ability, reason they were getting together. Occasionally, I wondered why Alamo never seemed to get out of the bottom position of car rental companies. Because of the unavailability of a vehicle from Hertz or Enterprise, we had to use Alamo this past week or so; now I know why. The people who work there are on such a tight leash, they cannot make even the simplest decisions unless it absolutely follows their rules. This comes straight down from management and explains their bottom-feeder position in the market. During a rental for our son, we had a fraud claim on one of the credit cards. Spoke with a person from Alamo who would not take a substitute card over the phone, but insisted that we needed to bring the card to the airport. We live about an hour away. Crazy that they would not take a credit card over the phone right? The following morning at 9:00 I went to airport; the service counter in airport closed; the service box in parking garage closed; it had a note which referred me to the National box. I presented my driver's license and credit card as directed by Alamo rep the night before. I was told that due to rules, I had to have the rental car present; I explained that my wife was told the night before, just to present the credit card; I also explained that my son with the rental car was at least 30 minutes away and involved in a wedding. After arguing, there were no concessions or alternative solutions provided by Alamo/National. My son drives down with the rental car and credit card only to be refused contract renewal (even though they had given it to him in the first place). My wife was forced to drive an hour to the airport to meet my son to cancel the Alamo contract (we did not renew the rental due to all of the unbelievable poor customer service). We went back to Hertz; got a car; no problem. As I told the Alamo/National people working in the monkey booth; we will never, ever use Alamo again. What a nightmare and what incredible inability or refusal to come up with a common sense and reasonable solution to a small problem. Management at the top clearly suffers from the same dullness. I have called multiple times with no way of talking with local office. People at 800 number can't get ahold of Tucson! They have emailed them multiple times and still no response from this office. We rented a VW Jetta for one week during our holiday visit to Tucson. The attendant, Pete La Barbera was very helpful with our reservation. In fact, we had a reservation at a rental car agency already, however, Pete did such a great job serving us and advising us on our rental that we realized that Alamo was the best choice. Alamo cars are parked in the garage adjacent to the main terminal; no waiting for shuttles and lugging your baggage to off-site agencies. On the day of our flight, the counter was closed--but all we had to do was park the car and drop the keys at the counter. As easy as that. Thanks Alamo. Personalized customer service like like this makes a big difference :) We enjoyed cruising through Gates Pass in our VW Jetta this week. read more

Worst rent a car experience I have ever had, and that is saying a lot. Flat tire discovered at 3rd or 4th mile. I try to call national help line. It hangs up on me and does not recognize iPhone number selections. No way to bypass. 3rd call finally worked. Got national help person. Polite. Not helpful. By now we are at the hotel. Because there is no spare, they need to send a tow truck and I need to ride with them to the airport to exchange the vehicle. And they may charge me for it. I said this sounds impossible. She said she could contact the local counter to see. We tried. They didn't answer. So she gave me their number to try on my own. 28 minutes 2nd call worked. After 18 minutes. Not kidding. I told him the situation. He said he would have to forward me to the manager. Ring ring. Voicemail. I now call back the national "help" line. I will take whatever. I have no knowledge of the price. I just want it to be over. We are at the 18 minute mark of this call, she put me on hold, trying to contact the local counter. If you want zero customer service, wasted time, punctuated by extra fees and disinformation, this is your franchise. Update: at the 27 minute mark, she just came back and said they have not yet picked up at the counter. She affirmed that she does not know what fees will be for them to tow it and me back to the counter, or for them to tow it back and deliver me one in the morning. No idea. And nobody answers at the counter. "So, which would you prefer?" Amazingly terrible service Update: she went back on hold. At minute 35 now. Waiting for local counter. Update 2: she just came on line to let me know that nobody is answering. She then asked if there was anything else she could do. I suggested she please get hold of them and file paperwork to perhaps make their poor behavior known to corporate. Minute 45. Update 3: she kicked me to the local counter hold recording, at the 50th minute. She didn't inform me that she was dropping out of the call. "Please stay on the line. Your call is important to us. A representative will be with you shortly". On repeat. This is comical. Tragic comedy. Minute 54. At 64 minutes it forwarded me to voicemail. Again. Abysmal read more

I needed to rent a car for a weekend visit to Tucson. Internet searching indicated that Alamo had the cheapest daily rates and I found a promo code for a free upgrade. I made my reservation online, and "checked in" to make picking up the car quicker. I was pleased to find no line at the Alamo counter. I was even more pleased that the employee did not try too hard to sell me the additional insurance I did not need. I was in my rental car, driving away just 20 minutes after getting off the plane. Returning the car was even quicker, I was headed into the airport within 5 minutes. No exaggeration. Alamo would get a full 5 stars from me, but the Camry I got was a little too dirty to warrant that (the center console was covered with crumbs). Otherwise, I was very pleased with my experience and will most likely use Alamo in the future if I need to rent a car. read more

I was here with my friend who rented one for a drive we were doing to California due to some ongoing car issues with their own car. The customer service was great, really speedy. He encouraged us to do the upgrade and at first I thought he was doing the normal shady sort of rip off thing, until I realized he was right, it totally was worth it. For the price of a tank of gas you get an upgrade to the next level car. You can then return the car on empty. Now if you don't manage to return it empty, not worth it. If you're driving it across state lines and can calculate exactly how much gas you need to make it back to the airport, totally worth it! We got a comfy VW Jetta. It ran great and was super clean. Budget does not charge for this. When returning the car, there was no one there in the garage. They had a key drop but we could not get a receipt unless we went inside to the counter. Getting to the rental was quick and easy after picking up your baggage at baggage claim. The guys were kind and quick to get you your rental. I should've paid more attention to what I was signing. As I was charged different than what I placed online thru southwest car rental. It wasn't a huge difference but it was still a difference. Car was itty bitty. Was kinda fun driving such a tiny car. Didn't waste much gas so that was a bonus. Car smelled horrible. Every time we got in it was like the wonders have never been down. Took a while to adjust with AC and windows down. Car was clean & got us to point A to B. Returning the rental was just as quick. Took me $5.00 to fill up the gas I used in those 2 days. The guys checked it and gave me a receipt for the amount I had signed for at the first day. When I mentioned it, the guy said the only difference he saw was the tax. At that point, my time was worth more than the $6.00, I wanted to get out of Tucson AZ, so I just said no worries!! Not a bad experience, just wish the cost would've been the same that I had the email receipt from back in June. read more

Alamo is a great option for car rental in Tucson. They have a good selection of cars and upgrades for SUVs at a pretty decent uncharge. In addition, they allow spouses to drive the car without tacking on additional fees per day. The SUV we got was clean, reliable, and well-cared for. Dropping the car back off was easy. Really? I don't find this very professional!!! And her tacky way, of making you feel like a your a fool, for not getting additional insurance, is out of line. I have plenty of insurance, thank you! A nice (limited) selection. The premium vehicles which are the newer ones are not able to be taken into México. Out of all the companies at the airport, this is definitely the cheapest. The staff is friendly when they want to be. Don't expect amazing customer service because they're usually one or two people manning the desk area. But they're fine! The reps will always make it seem like they're "hooking you up" with some amazing discount. Take it. They do offer AAA, Sam's Club, Costco discounts. The insurance policies are tricky, it doesn't include road side assistance or personal insurance. But protects the car. What makes me continue coming to this location rather than others is because of their extended hours. read more
