Hire Dave! When I was living in Santa Clara, I needed to get my entire house rewired. I talked to four electricians. All said, well, basically told me, I needed to replace my breaker box, upgrade the panel, etc, etc. The price anywhere from $5000 to $10,000. I was shocked and it just didn't feel right. Dave explored the outlets that were not working as well as nearby ones that were working and determined that the outlets not working must be on a different circuit. We checked the power panel and Dave noticed a tripped breaker that I missed, which was unlike most breakers, and was not correctly labeled. read more

I bought a Single Family House recently and had to have some electrical work done. Cooktop installation, GFIC installed, and some outlets not working. So I called and talked to some of the electricians referenced here in yelp and needless to say, the service and responses I got were pretty crappy. On top of that, the rates, in my opinion, were ridiculously high. I remembered that I had opened an Angie's List account (Yelp for Contractors) and looked there instead. Found this place and was it a god send. Really nice guy and down to earth. He was really experience, trained in union school, 25 years of experience and opened his own business in 1994 (I think). I know this because I was chatting with him the whole time as he was setting up my cook top for me. Also, instead of charging me to install GFIC for my kitchen counter tops and bathroom counter tops, he explained to me how to do it and said he could do it for me or I could do it myself (he only said this to me because I told him I am an Electrical Engineer). So after answering all the questions I had and showing me how to do it myself, he said I should take some time to identify and isolate the issues better and call him again to come out so he wouldnt have to charge me more for his time. Highly recommend. On top of GREAT service and experience, he is licensed and has insurance (in case anything happens). Plus, his rates are VERY competitive. Alan did upgraded to the main panel and sub-panel as part of air conditioner installation. On time arrival. Alan worked very well with the PG&E technician who came to cut off and turn on electricity. Quality of his job was accepted by the city inspector. The inspector commented that the job was done in high quality. Though he had two assistants, he personally inspected their work. All were done done neatly. His estimate was not the cheapest but he explained what he would do in a highly professional manner. He follows city codes carefully. No short cut. I have a kitchen fluorescent light panel with four bulbs, and two of them were not showing any signs of life despite brand new bulbs. Dave replaced the ballast and rewired them in less than an hour, so now the lights all work perfectly. He was very friendly and especially enthusiastic about his electrical craft. I called Alan Electric on Christmas Eve because our daughter (and tenant) bathroom light fixture smelled smokey. Dave Nagel, the owner, came out the day after Christmas, checked that light fixture, and the wiring in several other places in the building, and advised us there was no smoke detector in the unit. He discussed the situation with our daughter and then took the time to call me and explain things also.
