Although I showed interest by asking questions regarding pricing plans to fix my external hard-drive, I never followed through with the repairs. Words can't describe the awesome and professional service from the first phone call to when the work was completed. Wayne explained would be involved to recover over 180,000 photos that were on my portable hard drive. I thought they would be lost but Wayne and his staff were able to recover all of them. PC failed to boot. Talked to Wayne and Bryton at Alandata in Irvine, brought the 1 T drive in, not having to ship it to other shops out of state and paying shipping, handling fees. Wayne deleted corrupt sectors, copied the drive and made a bootable mirror drive, which took 2 days to download for a reasonable cost. He sold me a new 1T drive at cost, a decent guy. I came to Alan data for 2 hard drives that no longer started up. Initial intake was quick and immediately you were given a text and email confirmation. After, I was updated with the progress. After it was completed, I could not get it to read on my Mac. Wayne was able to confirm there was a bug within the os . He without hesitation, took back the hard drive and re formatted it. He also spent almost an hour over the phone to try and diagnose the problem. Customer service was above and beyond. Before finding Alandata Data Recovery, I went to another shop in Costa Mesa (Yourtronics) where I was told the data couldn't be recovered. Regretfully, I would say steer clear of Yourtronics. If you have a disk drive problem and live anywhere near central Orange County, the father-son team at Alandata is terrific, plus their shop is very accessible near Red Hill and Dyer/Barranca. They've been in business a long time and know their stuff. The father learned how to retrieve data from computer storage drives back in the dinosaur age when massive computers (far less capable than today's generic PC) had their own air-conditioned rooms and data files were on tape drives 3 feet in diameter stacked 4-feet high. He developed a knack for writing software to retrieve "lost" data, and has applied his considerable knowledge and skill over the last 40 years as data storage devices have evolved. His son learned dad's skills plus augmented that hands-on education with a degree from UCI. Besides that, they're gracious, low-key, engineering problem solvers at heart. I found Alandata after taking a PC tower that had been acting up to a nearby large computer store. Not only wasn't the problem fixed, but two disk drives were fried during the "repair" process. Rather than use the computer retailer's expensive service to try to retrieve the lost data by sending the disks to another state, I turned to Reddit and Yelp to explore other options. Once again, both social media companies showed why they're worth billions because they often deliver some of the most helpful, unbiased reviews to uninformed and confused people like myself. When I searched google maps, I was surprised to find so many companies that supposedly specialize in computer file restoration, but learned that many of them require you to send the drives out of state. Contacted Wayne and my job was a level 2 data recovery situation( SATA hard drive failure). Went to their location for a free evaluation which was assessed right then and there which is great. Other places make you wait several hours or the next business day. There are two locations and their main work area is at Alandata in Santa Ana (the other is Data Recovery Man in Costa Mesa which doesn't take in same day evaluations from what I was told). The job was estimated to take 2 weeks but he got it done in one business day! Recovered 99% of my data (the remaining 1% created interesting file errors so I guess they were not recoverable. They waived some computer re-set up fees and other fees, which I appreciated greatly. There were some delayed communication moments but phone calls seem to push things through well. Of note, this location is within the business district buildings and their work zone is in offices. It's a more modern area within a well decorated and professional looking building. Your stuff isn't in some run down back alley location. Thanks Wayne for taking care of my needs in a super fast way. Brought it in Friday at the end of the day and I was allowed to pick everything up Monday end of day. Hope to never have to come back but if I need to handle HDD issues, Ill be back! read more

Promoted themselves as having rapid turn around with an "in house lab" but in reality they are so disorganized they cannot even follow up with customers. 2 weeks after dropping off my harddisk with no updates i reached out only to be told "were working on it".
