Nice upscale ambiance with a great wine list and enough menu options to keep even the most pickiest eaters in our party content. Oysters were fresh and briny, octopus was very tender and the Chilean sea bass entree was a hit. My mom ordered the swordfish and although it was also tasty, if you're debating between the two fishes, definitely go with the sea bass. Hubby's 2 lb cowboy steak was impressive and cooked perfectly with plenty leftover. The kids' meals and all the sides were enormous, enough to feed an army. The dinner went off without a hitch and our server surprised us with a mile high chocolate cake on the house. Always an excellent time at Alba on 53! What I love is its just minutes away from Hanover Crossing so you can do a little shopping, see a movie and then come here for dinner. Sunday evenings you would think aren't usually busy, but this past Sunday was crowded but luckily there were open seats at the bar. We love sitting at the bar. It's like a front row seat to all the action! They also have a great wine list. I ordered a glass from Burgundy and my husband had a beer. We skipped the starters and went straight to the entrees. I had their Roasted Cod which I did enjoy but lacked a bit of flavor. Although the sauce that came with it was superb! My husband had their Burger which looked nice and juicy. Oh and they have the best fries too. I couldn't help myself in grabbing just one. If you have not yet been to Alba on 53 then I highly recommend you add this as your next date night spot! What happened to this place? It used to be a favorite. The bolognese used to be fabulous. Now it's like something you'd get from Olive garden. Yuck ! We ordered 2 Filets also. What came out was not Filet. When we told the server they were not the steak we ordered, she assured us that that was the filet mignon. Flat, kidney Shape not fillet. I don't know what's going on there, but the quality has certainly gone sideways. Not a go to anymore. Seems they are trying to keep the same prices but substitute lesser quality. Thumbs down. Bummer. Finally made it to Alba in Hanover. Outstanding atmosphere and outstanding service. This is clearly a professionally run operation. I ordered the one special offered this evening based on the waiter's suggestion: chicken parmesan. It was not good, dry, tasteless, clearly a miss. Asked waiter to remove it, and he did politely offering another entree in its place. So I asked for the Chicken Alba and it was just ok. My friends enjoyed the swordfish and caesar but the cod entree was over cooked. Seems like this was just an off night in the kitchen. Went here for a lunch after a baptism. The food was 10/10. One of the best Caesar salads I've had! It was delicious! The chicken was not overcooked and was juicy. We have been to Alba numerous times and have always enjoyed excellent food and service. This review was for an evening we went to celebrate our anniversary. Everything was as expected except for one part of my meal. We both ordered specials which were beautifully described by our waiter. My wife ordered a tuna poke bowl and said it was very good. I ordered a ribeye which came with shrimp and crabmeat. I totally enjoyed everything except the ribeye which was tough and loaded with fat. To say the least, I took most of the steak home but have to admit, I have had better ribeyes from The Market Basket. I finally tried Alba in Hanover and it was excellent! The staff (from the hostess to the waitresses to the bartenders) were on top of their game and super friendly. We sat on the far side of the bar and although it was a Friday, we could hear each other. We got the calamari, the octopus, sushi to munch on and they were all very good, especially the grilled octopus. We never felt rushed and the bartenders were always accommodating and made us feel welcome. Alba on 53 is well located with tons of parking, next to a plaza with the movies and shopping. It's easily accessible/drivable. We were sat quickly, our waiter was attentive. Everyone we interacted with was pleasant. The food was super good. We got calamari, the braised oxtail Gnocchi, and steak with mashed potatoes. For dessert we got banana bread pudding. The calamari was perfectly flavored. Well crisped, and still hot. Served with two sauces, cocktail and a creamier mayo sort of sauce. The quantity is definitely enough for two persons. The coating was light, the perfect bite. The braised short rib gnocchi was also very good. Well seasoned, the flavored paired well together. The gnocchi was a soft bite, not soggy or undercooked. My partners steak looked immaculate. Perfectly cooked, which alot of restaurants simply don't get right (he got it medium rare). His potatoes were whipped to the GODS, too whipped for me personally but still VERY good. The dessert was **chef kiss**, banana pudding. The English kind not the jello kind. It was amazing, the ice cream on top also paired well, super sweet- but very very good. The drinks were decent also. I recommend the snowbird. The old fashioned tasted watered down; but it could've also maybe have been the bourbon used? The espresso martini was also a perfect sip! Either way. Highly recommend! Which is to say, we didn't mind the long intervals between visits by the waitress. This was a nice dinner. Food was good, and everyone was happy with their meals. Two friends had filets, one had swordfish, and I had clam chowder followed by a maki roll with mango . Chowder was good, but not great. $13 was overpriced, but everything else was reasonable for a restaurant of this caliber. Only downsides: first, the acoustics for live music aren't great; and second, the parking lot is super busy (Thurs night) and we had to circle twice to get a spot out back. No biggie either way. Literally the least friendly, unengaging, boring _ss, dull faced bartenders I've experienced in the last 25 years. We ordered drinks and a couple apps. Couple more drinks. We ordered two steaks , the filet mignon and strip sirloin. My mother in law ask for medium well, and my wife asked for medium. We were served soft bread with their delicious hummus to start. For my entree, I ordered the rack of lamb. It was perfect - nicely charred crust on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. Yesterday was a special day, my 27th wedding anniversary. Naturally, I wanted to have a special meal with my dear Wife. Alba was the one restaurant that we both agreed to for this special meal. When I called, I may have mentioned that the reservation was for an anniversary dinner. From the moment we arrived to the moment that we left, we were treated like honored guests. It wasn't just the lovely hostess or our amazing Waiter, John. But, every single layer of staff (and there are many) moved with friendly but complete efficiency to ensure everything was to our satisfaction. This is impressive now that we live in an age of second rate service. Without any hesitation, this was the best dinner, if only for the service. Secondly, the ambience here at Alba is elegant with extremely tall ceilings that make the space even more impressive. If you have been, then you know that the flatware, the wine glasses, the mosaic-like dinnerware are all up to the task. For cocktails, a Port Fashioned for me and a Tito's Martini for the Wife. This set the stage. Then, a bottle of Caymus Cabernet to keep the food happy. The food? How about the food? Outstanding. We started with the Lamb Meatballs, made by someone that understands how a meatball should be made. Soft, fluffy and organically shaped by hand. Then, a salad course of baby greens and thinly sliced radishes dressed with a light vinaigrette. As long as I was here at Alba, I had to order a Margarita Pizza. It was calling name, as it always does. If you know, then you know. Either way, my Wife could not deny me. Our Main course (we ordered the same) was the 10 ounce Filet with a side of Brussel Sprouts (with Pancetta) and a side of Wild Mushrooms. I saw Chanterelle I saw Enoki and then, instead of taking a photograph, I just dug in. Sorry. The Filet was ordered medium rare and that is how it was served. So good. The Mushrooms and Brussels were the perfect wingmen to the Filet. Lastly, was the dessert course. We ordered the Panna Cotta and the Banana Maple Bread Pudding (see the pics!) I still cannot decide which was better and I am glad that I was able to enjoy both. If you are wise, I would recommend that you do the same. I met my girlfriend here for dinner per her recommendation and we did outdoor seating. The weather was nice and the restaurant is located in a small outdoor shopping center. Our waitress was friendly and the table and chairs were so cute. I ordered the wellfleet oysters as a starter which were just okay. For my entrée, I ordered the gnocchi w/ short rib (going against my better judgment as I barely eat meat). The short rib was very tender and easy to pull apart but lacked any real flavor and the gnocchi fell flat for me. My friend ordered the Alba chicken and the Mac and cheese. Although I did not try her chicken, the Mac and cheese was a hit and we ended up sharing that. I also ordered a bottle of Saratoga water for the table and I found it odd that the waitress filled our cups and took the bottle with her when there was still water left in the bottle. When I asked her why, she simply told me that she had to keep the water with her. I found that to be risky, with the potential for cross contamination. Restaurants I've been to typically keep the water on the table. I wanted to make it a bigger deal rather than let that slide but I was too into my conversation with my friend. I'd like to see the water I paid for on my table and fill my glass as I please knowing it's actually my water and the amount of water left checks out from the last pour, just saying. The restaurant was nice the food was a six the bouilinaise was soupy, the short ribs dinner was not that great,the pasta was over cooked. The seafood dishes were good. It is a 1-page menu that consists of sushi, steaks, pasta, and other entrees with a variety of protein choices. Gnocchi with short ribs was absolutely a favorite.
